Video resolution question

Do the tv shows or movies that are available on iTunes have the resolution to take advantage of Touch's higher resolution (320 x 480)? Or are they set up for Classic's 240 x 320 resolution?

The max SCREEN resolution is 480X320H and the max screen resolution the IPT can run is 640X480. If you're planning to see your videos only through the IPT screen don't go over 480X320. Now, if you're planning to watch it on SD TVs you can encode the videos at 640X480 for a better resolution on TV. That's all.

  • Video resolution question on retina

I am sorry if this has been asked before but I could not find an answer.
I am considering getting an iPod Touch 4. I realize the retina display will make almost everything look great, but I also want to watch movies or tv shows during lunch breaks. My question is this...if I want to encode my own DVDs (I do not have Blu-ray currently) how will they look on the retina display?
It seems to me based on the specs that I would have to encode at 640x480 since DVD resolution is not "high resolution". Doesn't that essentially mean that on the 960x640 retina screen that the image will look slightly blurred or does it just get black bars around all sides of the video?

They will look youtube videos, they aren't awesome as High Definition, but they aren't that bad.
    Hope it helps!

  • HD vs. 4K Video resolution questions

I was taking some still photos with my iPhone at 3264 x 2448 for a PP project and it had me thinking. HD video is only 1920 x 1080, which is much less resolution than a basic still shot from an iPhone.
    1. Why is 1920 x 1080 HD resolution the high quality standard and not 4k video camera resolution? Is this currently a limitation of display devices and price, or is there some other reason?
    2. Can I make a 4k still image project in PP based on a resolution of something like 4096 × 2048 and than just downconvert when I'm done? Are there any issues with working with lots of stills of that size in the program?
    Thanks.

Yes. Infrastructure was dragged up to 1920x1080 over two generations. It'll take another generation to pull it up to 4k. there are already 4k displays and cameras so it'll happen faster than last time.
4K capture, processing and display is around us. The distribution is the weak link at the moment
Having said that, just as TV shows destined for SD broadcast were shot on 35mm film (which has far higher resolution than Standard Definition (720x480) ), 4K cameras are being used as the primary shooting camera for TV shows that are broadcast in HD (eg Arri Alexia is very popular for TV dramas - eg Burn Notice).
Display devices - yes that's an issue
Price - yes, 4k cameras and workflow is still very high $$$
other reason - yes, it takes time for the public to adopt the new technology. The ability to broadcast it is the biggest issue right now.

Yup, edit in one of the RED formats or make a custom sequence using the industry standard 4K resolutions.
Alternately if you know you're using only the iPhone camera photos (not video) make a sequence that matches that resolution.
    - For example I made a 4K timelapse using DSLR photos then down converted the 4K sequence to 1080p. (http://youtu.be/hK53CYs8pDY)

  • Video Resolution, and Windows Reset?

    Two quick questions.
    1. Where, if possible, can I set the settings for the videos resolution (i.e. 16:9, pixels, ect)
    2. Is it possible to reset all the windows to their default opening layout and size? (I screwed up something on my timeline so now only half of the horizontal slider bar is showing until I click on it)

    From the menu: Window>Arrange>Standard.
This will only reset the Layout.

  • Export resolution and camera resolution question

I am thinking of buying a new camera- specifically one that will film video in widescreen as well as widescreen photo's. I have been looking at some that have a maximum video resolution of 848x480, which will come out fine.
With iMovie, so far I have been using my wife's Casio camera which records video at 640x480 (4:3 ratio), and I have been cropping the video in iMovie and exporting as 640x360 widescreen. The next resolution up from 640x360 in iMovies export settings is 960x540.
My question is, if my new camera has a video res of 848x480, when I export that in iMovie, will it have to be down-scaled to 640x360, or will there be an option to export at the same resolution (I don't think it will let me upscale it to 960x540)?
    Thanks.

  • IDVD video resolution?

    Hey Guys
Maybe this is a stupid question - but here goes:
What is the best video resolution that can be put on a DVD disc by iDVD?
    such as 480i or 720 ( i or p ) or 1080i ???
With HDV source to Apple intermid code (FCE HD) to iDVD QT MPEG-4 = ?????
    Thanks

Yes. Standard (i.e. not HD) widescreen video is a kludge. The widescreen movie is simply squashed horizontally into the same space taken up by a normal 4:3 image (720x480 pixels for NTSC, 720x576 for PAL). When your TV switches to widescreen it just stretches the image again. This gives you highly non-square pixels but then standard TVs have no concept of pixels anyway (they're effectively analogue). It works but it's still a kludge. HD video uses square pixels like a computer so a widescreen image has more pixels horizontally.

  • QT video resolution issues from Apple podcast server

My video is low res. 7.6.6 on OSX 10.5.8 has disabled the media settings. I have tried to change the settings for "instant on" but it keeps defaulting to the on position in the medium range. I tried to re-install 7.6.4 but while the player shows that it has been properly installed when i go to the QT pro registration it is still showing that it is 7.6.6. QUESTION How do I re-configure QT pro for my firefox browser so that I get the proper resolution (I don't want to upgrade to the newest OS yet.

"Instant On" setting is for "streaming" media:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/streaming/
It has nothing to do with the video resolution.

  • Any way to adjust output video resolution from STB?

I have a HD Pioneer video monitor (PDP-503CMX + PDA5002) and a HDTV Sharp LC-26SB14U.  The pioneer supports native HD video resolution of 1080i and the Sharp supports native 720p.  Both units have a feature that allows users to "scroll through" multiple "display modes" (e.g., full, zoom, wide, etc.) to match up the display of the current video to the viewer's tastes.  The "best looking" format depends on the broadcast content / quality / format.
This "display mode" functionality worked on both my "TVs" when I used Time Warner cable, a week ago.  They also worked when I used an antenna to pull HD broadcasts off-air.  But now that I have swtiched to FiOS the STB seems to somehow "fix" the video output signal in some way so that both TVs show only the "full" display.  I don't like it -- the edges of the video (both top/bottom and sides) are cropped ... and worse yet, this display mode suppresses the crisp "native display" mode in favor of an inferior display mode where the video signal seems to be somehow "interpolated."  This interpolation / artificial enlargement results in a poorer quality video -- particularly noticable on the 52" monitor.
Any ideas how to adjust the STB output so that it uses the "native display" mode, if it must be locked into only one mode ... or better yet how to set the video output signal so that I can choose the mode myself (like I was able to do with the cable box and off-air antenna)?
    Thanks.

There is no "native" or pass-thru mode on the Verizon STB.  You can select either 1080i or 720p for HD output (the box will interpolate to that fixed resolution regardless of the source material resolution).
The additional choice is what is called 4:3 override.  You can pick 480i, 480p, stretch or OFF.  The first 3 are self explanatory while the last one (OFF) outputs SD in 4:3 aspect ratio upconverted to your selected HD resolution.
    Hope that helps.

  • Obtain Video Resolution (VideoChannel Lync SDK 2013 - UI Supressed)

I am having trouble obtaining the actual video resolution from the VideoChannel.CaptureVideoWindow and
    VideoChannel.RenderVideoWindow.
The both windows give me the same Width and Height

I need the real video resolution to scale the window and avoid the black padding.
    Any hints ?

                UI.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new MethodInvoker(delegate()

Do I need to point iPhoto to this new location?
    Thanks!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
    Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

P.S. Can you please tell how this forum can be identified code \ listing?

    Hello,
I don't know if there is a way to change the video. But I think you can easily use your own videos by using a local .mpg or .3gp file via InputStream. Just change the player's parameters in video/mpg instead of capture://video.
    Hope it helps...

  • Cannot Change Video Resolution in Youtube

When I try to change the video resolution in YouTube, the screen goes black and it automatically goes to 240p regardless of the resolution that I choose. It will play the video so long as it remains in its default resolution i.e. 360p or 240p. I also have Chrome downloaded and it has no issue changing between video resolution so I am assuming it is an issue with Safari. I reinstalled Flash and I tried resetting the computer but had no success with either of those attempts. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Dan

Thanks dschinkal! When I view You Tube clips on Safari and click the resolution adjuster to increase it (say, to 720), the screen goes black and I have to click refresh in order to reload the page. After which, it plays again at a low resolution.
This has happened since I bought my new iMac 27" a month ago.
