Video Scaling SNAFU
I've had one specific problem with Compressor that I can not seem to figure out.
The Goal:
I'm trying to convert video files for use within DVD studio pro.
The File Formats:
I've got DV video, I've got 960x540 movies, I've got 1920x1080 movies. I can scale it to any size I need and drop them into DSP, but I thought Compressor was supposed to give better options and control over the conversion. So far I've only had frustration and confusion. (the advanced, extra strength kind)
The Problem:
If I use a preset DVD option to create an M2v movie, the movie is scaled to an incorrect size EVERY TIME. Even if I start with 720x480 @DV compression. If I use the 4:3 DVD preset the movie is sized to 640x480. If I use the 16:9 DVD preset the movie is scaled to 720x404??? Somebody help me because it's not supposed to do that. I need it to stay or scale to 720x480 which is the DVD resolution. Why would a DVD preset scale my video to anything other than 720x480????
In fact the summary of the setting says that it's going to create a movie at 720x480 and yet it ends up at some other resolution.
What is going on. The program has been.. for me, useless.
I'm sure there is some simple solution that I can't seem to find. So could someone clue me in so I can continue my work... Help!
Hey John
ok by looking at your resolutions, i see that you are making the full frame 16x9 1.78:1 standard definition files. i also see that you have 16x9 full frame high definition files. there is nothing wrong with compressor has i see it, let me explain.
i have to ask, why would you use the 4x3 preset, since it is not full frame, unless you have an anamorphic source (which i doubt). in your case, with your resolutions, i would ONLY use 16x9 presets! 720x404 is the widescreen 16x9 1.78:1 aspect ratio WITHOUT the mattes. yes this is CORRECT. your material will be letterboxed (if you didnt choose a pan&scan option) with a 4x3 monitor and will be a full frame 16x9 picture with a widescreen monitor.
by the way, compressor and a few other encoders do actually compress 640x480 full frame because this is the square pixel of the compture monitor, where a TV monitor is the "rectangular" pixel. when you go to compile your project, you will see trhat everything is OK.
you just have to make sure with these reolutions that all settings and stream settings are 16x9, since these are resolutions you are working with, especially true with ANY HD reolution.
hope that helps and if you have any other particular question, let me know
Mikey M.

Video scaling worse in FCP5.1 than in Quicktime 7 ?!
i have some footage shot on the Phantom 5.1 camera. it is at a custom resolution: 768x1024 (portrait format) / square pixel aspect ratio / 25fps / Photo-JPEG compressor / not interlaced
i'm trying to downscale it to PAL to make a standard definition dvd.
so i make a new PAL (DV compressor) sequence in FCP 5.1.4, drag the high resolution Phantom clip to the sequence, FCP automatically pics the correct scale factor (~56% as i remember), hit File > Export > Quicktime Movie... and export the sequence to a file. Setting: Current Setting, Include A+V, Do Not recompress all frames, Do make self contained.
the resulting movie when played back in quicktime player looks very bad quality. it appears to be approximately half the vertical resolution. i understand about interlacing (i think!): i always playback interlaced clips with 'High Quality' ticked so i am seeing both fields. so i am confident that is not the issue.
this is frustrating, but the problem gets a bit more strange:
if i open the 768x1024 file in the QuicktimePlayer and export it as a Quicktime Movie asking the file to scaled down to PAL at this stage by the quicktime player. the file that quicktime exports when compared side by side with the file that FCP exported is noticably better quality! in fact, is sharp as you would expect.
unfortunately, there is a flaw to this approach also, scaling in quicktime player has no concept of converting pixel aspect so my scaled down clip is a little bit too wide. you can see this in the screen shots, the QT version is vertically sharp but horizontally a bit less sharp.
this is not a problem with checking things on the computer screen, i have gone through outputting these to dvd and checking them on various playback machines. the results are the same. as an aside: I have seen this symptom before when scaling down Pal DV footage within a Pal DV sequence (to achieve split screen and picture in picture type effects), i've always assumed it was a problem with scaling interlaced footage and never looked into it.
can somebody explain why the quality is unacceptably bad when the video is scaled down in FCP and much better (albeit with other problems) when the video is scaled down the same amount in the Quicktime Player ?
i maybe jumping to conclusions here: this appears to tell me is that there is a significant problem with the image scaling engine in FinalCutPro. there is a unnecessarily large loss of quality whenever changing the scale of a clip in a sequence.
i have prepared some example screenshots. this is not from the original footage, rather a clip made from a still image. i've gone through identical steps with it and had the same result.
the original footage, 768x1024 square pixels, Photo-JPEG codec:

the comparison scaled clips:
http://www.alexkent.net/fcp5scaling/downscaledbyFinalCutPro.png
http://www.alexkent.net/fcp5scaling/downscaledbyQuickTime.png
Message was edited by: Alex Kent (for clarity)looking again i don't think my example images are much good, i'll make some more later to try to make the problem more clear.
the FCP one is narrower because of the Pixel Aspect ratio of PAL. the FCP video is 720x576 but at PAL pixel aspect (1.07) and the QT is 768x576 with square pixel aspect. so they're both right in that sense, but the quicktime player doesn't display the FCP one correctly.
resolution: i didn't meant about 50% sharpness of the high resolution original, i meant approx 50% sharpness of a regular standard def PAL image. that is my problem, scaling down in FCP seems to make much worse images than the quality i am scaling down to.
the camera? it's pretty wild. made by vision research:
http://www.visionresearch.com/index.cfm?sector=htm/files&page=camera51new
as i said i'll make up some more explanatory sample images later today as i think this scaling quality is a problem i have run into many times, but never figured out.
thanks. -
HiDPI and 4K video scaling?
I am just getting to grips with Mac and 4K, my question is this. If i run my disemploy scaled using HiDPI mode to look like 2560x1440 and i play a video from youtube am i seeing all of the pixels as if i were running at a native resolution? I know HiDPI mode does some fancy image processing and I'm just wondering if anything is being lost during this process?
IMO the "4K video format" is close to the maximum transmission rate for many home routers and NAS devices. The below link mentions transcodeing 4K videos before streaming to your TV:

Video scaled down becomes pixelated with graphics
Hey everyone,
I have a clip in my time line which I resize (720 x 480) scale down to 32% from 100% to the corner.
Adjusted all the Pixel Aspect ratios which are set to NTSC CCIR 601 (lower) & TIFF images (square). Tryed also RT which is dynamic.
My lower 32% scaled down video is a bit distored blurry with any graphic file or motion file. Tried adjusting the layers,aspect settings, codec. If I remove the graphic..it clears up to normal. The full 100% scaled is fine.
I'm trying maintain the digital quality in the small scaled down video.
Suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!Render it, then view on a proper external ntsc/pal video monitor.

I've made a flash movie which is 1024x768 px and in first
frame i've placed
FScommand fullscreen & allowscale actions: so when
resolution is 1024x768
movie is in its original size, but when resolution is
higher/lower movie
stretches/shrinks.
On stage is MediaDisplay component which displays external
Flash Video (flv)
in its original size (use prefered media size option) ... so
when resolution
is 1024x768 it is displayed in original size because stage is
also 1024x768.
But when resolution is higher/lower, flash video holder
(mediaDisplay
component) stretches/shrinks along with stage. When it
stretches/shrinks,
video quality is degraded: jiggy, warped and smudged picture
with crispy
edges, something like "nearest kin interpolation".
Example: Quality of stretched/shrinked video is similar to
the quality of
scaled image that doesn't have "allow smoothing" turned on -
image is poor
quality, jiggy, crispy and smudged when it is not in its
original size.
Is there a way to eliminate this, like "allow smoothing for
video"
Thanks
LukaDepending on what movieclips/graphics you are trying to
preserve the dimensions for in the Flash movie you might be able to
achieve your goal by adjusting the parameters in the publish
settings in Flash (CTRL+Shift+F12, HTML tab).

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to scaling the video component of a stream to make a test of the receiver's capabilities. This part of my code:
try {
scf = ServiceContextFactory.getInstance();
contexts = scf.getServiceContexts();
serviceContext = null;
if(contexts.length > 0){
serviceContext = contexts[0];
}catch (Exception e){
log("Error"+e);
if(serviceContext == null){
log("Error"+e);
/* Localizar el reproductor*/
player = null; //inicializa el reproductor
handlers = serviceContext.getServiceContentHandlers();
for (int i = 0; i < handlers.length; i++){
if (handlers[i] instanceof javax.media.Player){
player = (javax.media.Player) handlers;
break;
if(player == null){
log("Error: No se ha encontrado ningun reproductor");
bgControl = null; //inicializa
controls = player.getControls();
for (int i = 0; i < controls.length; i++) {
if (controls[i] instanceof org.dvb.media.BackgroundVideoPresentationControl) {
bgControl = (org.dvb.media.BackgroundVideoPresentationControl) controls[i];
break;
if(bgControl == null){
log("Error locating controller.");
vdim = bgControl.getInputVideoSize();
videoTransformation = new VideoTransformation(new Rectangle(vdim), 0.5, 0.5, new HScreenPoint(0,0));
bgControl.setVideoTransformation(videoTransformation);
Then, I try to kill the application but it doesn't work. I tried all methods I found to stop the player (close, stop, deallocate) but no one works, my whole destroyXlet method runs (I checked it with logs) but the application is still started in the receiver and I can't start another application.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance and excuse my english.
Ana
Edited by: ana on Nov 15, 2007 3:56 AMHi Ana,
I've tried your example and others using BackgroundVideoPresentationControl...
I'm using XletView, and running Ana's example I got the message at console:
*"Error locating controller."*
at this part of the code:
if(bgControl == null){
log("Error locating controller.");
}It means that there's no BackgroundVideoPresentationControl.
I've tried also (org.dvb.media.BackgroundVideoPresentationControl)player.getControl("org.dvb.media.BackgroundVideoPresentationControl")and it returns null.
I've noticed that the player.getControls().length is zero... it means that there are no controls attached to my player, right?
so, how this code works perfectly for me?
AWTVideoSizeControl oAwtVideoSizeControl = (AWTVideoSizeControl)oPlayer.getControl("javax.tv.media.AWTVideoSizeControl");
oAwtVideoSizeControl.setSize(PoAwtVideoSize);Does anybody know some issue related to XletView and BackgroundVideoPresentationControl?

Video Scaling / Resize problems
Hi there,
Using the new Sprint release, i have suddenly Problems setting the correct Layout Attributes.
Thats what i'm trying:
for x elements:
video = new VideoElement
( new NetLoader()
, new URLResource(new URL("file://"+filepath))
LayoutUtils.setRelativeLayout(video.metadata, 100, 100);
LayoutUtils.setLayoutAttributes(video.metadata, ScaleMode.LETTERBOX, RegistrationPoint.CENTER);
serialElement.addChild(video);
end for
mediaPlayer.media = serialElement;
controlBar.element = serialElement;
container.addMediaElement(serialElement);
No Error, No Result. In the last Sprint everything worked fine.
As a test I did the following:
mediaPlayer.media = serialElement;
controlBar.element = serialElement;
LayoutUtils.setRelativeLayout(serialElement.metadata, 100, 100);
LayoutUtils.setLayoutAttributes(serialElement.metadata, ScaleMode.LETTERBOX, RegistrationPoint.CENTER);
These four lines worked like expected only for the first video.
Every help is appreciated.
Best RegardsFrostis333,
It looks like your example is correct, from what I can see. Are there are other videos in your serial composition? If so, you'll need to apply the LayoutUtils.setRelativeLayout and LayoutUtils.setLayoutAttributes to those elements as well as the first element. If you are, have you tried to play the broken media elements alone, not in a composition? If there are connections problems, etc.. try listening to the MediaErrorEvent from the video element. If possible, please try to upload your complete example. -
Is there a way to "center" video for DVD distribution?
This may be a long story so hear me out...
For the past year or so, after every great sports win by my alma mater Michigan State University I make a highlight video for web distribution. My workflow for doing so goes like this:
1. Record straight to DVD from Tivo or live TV using Panasonic ES10 recorder
2. Extract clips using Cinematize (uncompressed full quality setting, automatic adjustment 640x480)
3. Import clips into Final Cut Pro and edit
4. Export full quality uncompressed Quicktime
5. Export H.264 for web viewing
Well this work has found the attention of someone in the East Lansing (where MSU is) city council. They would like me to throw together a short little video to be played at bars in East Lansing after the MSU mens basketball tournament games.
I have done a few tests simply taking the uncompressed Final Cut exports and making a DVD in iDVD out of them. The results, while OK, aren't the best. I'm thinking there isn't much I can do there because I'm not working with the best source material (going through a number of compressions - Tivo, DVD recorder, iDVD, etc).
But one thing I did notice though is my fancy iDVD created menu looked pretty slick with the video scaled down. The video was crisp and clear.
Is there a way to scale my video down so that it doesn't play full screen? Almost doing a 4-sided letterbox. I'm envisioning the video scaled down, centered on the TV.Yes, I think I understand what you want to do...
You can scale the video down or up to pretty much any size you would want to use;
When your video is in the timeline, double click it, and it will open in one of the video preview windows (I belive its called the "viewer" window), for me on my dual screen, its the one on the left;
A few tabs will appear at the top of the the Viewer window, Video, Filters and Motion; Click on the motion Tab...
When there the video will disappear a time line where keyframes live will appear, since you have not used key frames in this clip for motion, there will not be any there;
You will see to the left of this a few pull downs, Basic Motion, Crop, Distort, Opacity, Drop Shadow and Time Remap;
When you have the basic Motion twisty selected, you will see, Scale, Rotation, Center and Anchor Point;
The one your interested in for what I belive you wan to do is Scale. You can click in the box that defaults to 100 (meaning 100 percent) and change this to anything you want.
By changing it this once it will make the entire clip play at that new scale. You can get creative and keyframe it over time using the little diamond shape button with the right and left arrow on each side. You can add a key frame at any point int he time line; and it will scale (in this case) to each setting you have set a key for. It interpolates the scale at each point in the time line when you set different scales etc... you can fiddle with this and get some good ideas for other projects if you want;
For what I belive you asked for, no key frame is required as you want it to start and finish att he same reduced scale.
I trust this helps you out, and hopefully I read your question correctly;
p.s. if you leave the Center at 0, and 0 it will be centred, but its important to note you can use that to chance the position of the video in the video frame, again not needed for your request - but handy to know....

New to Premiere Pro- Errors rendering, exporting, viewing video
I'm very new to Premiere Pro (and my macbook) but have recently got into video editing for my work and am having some issues on my second project. The first project (just a 1 minute video for YouTube) worked fine with no issues. After searching the forumns I have not seen anyone with the same set of issues I am having and I'm hoping someone can point me to what the issue is. I will start with the basic information.
Premiere Pro CS6.0.2
OS X 10.7.4
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
Video taken from GoPro- MPEG-4 movie H.264, AAC
Photos taken from Canon Rebel XSI- JPEG
Audio taken from Zoom H1- MP3
No 3rd party effects or programs in use
Sequence "created from clip"
Files stored locally on machine
Tried exporting using many different codecs including, H.264 HD 1080p 29.97 fps, Quicktime, etc
The issues I am having:
PP will not "render entire work area" for projects. It has worked occasionally if I start a brand new project, but never for projects I have been working on. Error shown below.
Video Preview Error
Error compiling movie.
Unknown error.
Program monitor will not show video. Upon first opening the project, the preview video will play. If I make any edits, try to render, add/delete clips, the preview just shows black- audio still plays.
Will not export any project consistently
Have only been able to get a project to export when first starting up the computer (not recently though)
Even new projects with only one video file have not been able to export (error below)
Encoding a sequence in media encoder also times out and stops half way through encoding.
When encoding I get this error message sometimes right away and sometimes after encoding for a few minutes.
Adobe Media Encoder
Error compiling movie.
Unknown error.
"Adobe has encountered an error and needs to close." This happens sometimes when first opening a project, and sometimes after a project has been worked on for awhile, and sometimes after a failed export.
I've got to assume this is some user issue I am having from being new to the software and trying to learn by doing. That being said, I appreciate any advice or solutions. I have tried to delete render files. I have tried to eliminate all of the photos, all of the video, and all of the audio files (thinking perhaps one of them was corrupt or were not compatible with the sequence settings I have). This is just a simple 1 minute video, and I have spent far to long on it trying to find a solution on my own- THANK YOU for helping me find a solution!

Apple TV Video Out To Native Possible?
Is there a way to get the Apple TV to output native resolution instead of upscaling it to the resolution of the TV?
If you have a mixe of 480P and 1080P movies to stream but prefer that the outboard preamp do the video scaling
instead of the Apple TV is that possible?Not sure what you mean by "not possible with any device"?
I have a lot of devices that will pass thru native resolutions to an external scaler.
The Apple TV does have an auto setting to detect the full resolution of the display device you are using via HDMI.
What I am asking has nothing to do with black borders, I am asking about resolution despite the aspect ratio of the original image. I do see a setting like I said that shows Auto or several other resolutions, what I was looking is simply a video pass thru so that an external scaler can handle it. -
Package for DVC80 USB Video Interface
Gents;
Some info sources say that a linux app can be provided which will permit the DVC80 to respond to NTSC video camera input.
The DVC80 operates well in windows, permitting capture in Irfanview and a program called Dazzle.
The following data describes a possible application which may be compatible with arch. The interface in video apps, especially from USB, can be daunting. Audio is also provided on NTSC basis for camera input via the DVC80 input connectors(stereo).
The data below describes how it might be built in linux:

Readme for kernel 2.6.x Linux device driver for the Zoran/Nogatech USBVision Video Grabber
Author: Joerg Heckenbach <[email protected]>
Homepage: http://www.emuit.com/webcam.html (Dwaine Garden)
INTRODUCTION:
This is a driver for the USB video bridge USBVision from Zoran/Nogatech, a USB-only cable used in many "webcam" devices.
It supports streaming and capture of color or monochrome video via the Video4Linux
API. Most V4L apps are compatible with it, but a few video-conferencing programs
do not work yet.
If you need more information, please visit the Zoran/Nogatech homepage at the above URL.
usbvision-0.9.6 is the first prerelease of the 1.0 driver. I did many changes in the code and I hope I
didn't break working features on different devices. The decompression is completed. Just from time to
time there are some black or white error pixels in the image on slower machines. Maybe it is a timing problem
in the isoc interrupt routine. We stay a third of the time in interrupt and so it is likely, that the parser
is called twice. Let me cleanup the routine for performance, move the parser to user-context and add a lock.
For 2.6x kernels we can use the saa7111 from the kernel tree, so the make will not compile the saa7111-new
for these kernels. The bt819-new.c is not coded to 2.6. kernel yet.
I have tested the driver with kernel 2.6.1, 2.6.2 to 2.6.7 with devices "Hauppauge WinTV USB FM 1" and
"Pixelview PlayTV USB Pro FM" on a 600MHz PII system.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- If you want to help with the development, get the chip's specification docs at
http://www.emuit.com/webcam.html
- A Video4Linux compatible frame grabber program (I recommend xawtv or Kwintv)
xawtv is available at: http://www.in-berlin.de/User/kraxel/xawtv.html
- Radio Application to take advantage of the radio tuner. (some of the devices)
GQradio is available at: http://gqmpeg.sourceforge.net/radio.html
HOW TO INSTALL THE DEVICE DRIVER:
First way (The easy one)
It works with most modern standard installations.
a) In the usbvision directory do
make; make install; modprobe usbvision
b) Start your video application.
c) Enjoy.
If c) doesn't work, something went wrong ;-)
Second way (Not as easy as the first one)
You need this, if either usb-, i2c-, tuner- or v4l-support is missing in your kernel.
a) cp the following files into the directory /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/media
usbvision.c
usbvision.h
saa7113.c
i2c-algo-usb.c
i2c-algo-usb.h
usbvision_ioctl.h
c) In the makefile of the dir /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb, look for the line "obj-$(CONFIG_USB_IBMCAM) +=media/",
insert an additional line then added the line for the usbvision driver
obj-$(CONFIG_USB_USBVISION) += media/
e) Add the line to the makefile in /usr/src/linux/driver/usb/media/
obj-$(CONFIG_USB_USBVISION) += usbvision.o saa7113.o i2c-algo-usb.o
f) Edit file /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/media/Kconfig
Paste the following lines below after the entry for the IBMCAM.
---------------------------- Begin Paste ------------------------------
config USB_USBVISION
tristate "USB Zoran/Nogatech USBVision Video Grabber Support"
depends on USB && VIDEO_DEV && I2C && VIDEO_BT848 && VIDEO_DPC
---help---
Say Y here if you want to connect a Nogatech NT100x, or a Zoran
ZR36504/ZR36505 chipset based video/tv/radio grabber, to your
computer's USB port.
For more information, read <file:Documentation/usb/usbvision.txt>.
This driver needs the following support: Please enable (Y or M in config)
Video For Linux API
I2C API.
BT484 Device Support
DPC7146 demonstration board Device Support
This code is also available as a module ( = code which can be
inserted in and removed from the running kernel whenever you want).
The module will be called usbvision.o. If you want to compile it as a
module, say M here and read <file:Documentation/modules.txt>. This
video grabber has several configuration options which can be specified
when you load the module. Read <file:Documentation/usb/usbvision.txt> to
learn more.
---------------------------- End of Paste -----------------------------
h) If it is not already there (it usually is), create the video device:
mknod /dev/video c 81 0
i) Sometimes /dev/video is a symlink to /dev/video0
You will have to set permissions on this device to allow you to read/write
from it:
chmod 666 /dev/video
chmod 666 /dev/video0 (if necessary)
When configuring the kernel choose Zoran/Nogatech USBVISION video support as
module. You are going to need also to select i2c and v4l, and if your
device have tuner you need to compile also BT848 support or other modules
that compile the tuner.o module.
a) Do a make modules, make modules_install.
b) If the USB Support and the Video4Linux was compiled as modules.
modprobe usbcore.o
modprobe usb-uhci.o <OR> modprobe ohci-hcd.o
modprobe videodev.o
b) Install the modules:
modprobe usbvision- For a great radio application, try GQradio.
The usbvision module will also load the i2c-algo-usb, i2c-core, saa7111, saa7113.
VIDEO PLAYERS FOR PLAYING VIDEO OUPUT
Here is the setting to get the TV tuner working with mplayer. It does software video scaling, so you can have full screen mode with the USBVision driver.
mplayer tv:// -tv channel=43:driver=v4l:input=0:outfmt=rgb24:norm=ntsc:height=240:width=320 -flip
Here is the setting to get the TV tuner working with xawtv.
xawtv -c /dev/video0
USBVISION MODULE PARAMETERS:
NAME: isocMode
TYPE: integer (0x03, 0x14, 0x60)
DEFAULT: 0x60
DESC: The isocMode is the format mode of the data that is transmitted on the isocronous
pipe via USB. It is not depending on the connected video-hardware. Default is 0x14.
YUV422 0x03
YUV420 0x14
COMPRESSION 0x60 Enable compression for full framerate.
NAME: debug
TYPE: bitmask
DEFAULT: 0
DESC: You don't need this option unless you are a developer. If you are a developer then
you will see in the code what values do what. This is a bit mask, and you can combine any
number of bits to produce what you want:
bit 2 debug procfs
bit 3 debug video ioctl
bit 4 debug video io
bit 5 debug radio io
bit 7 debug usb frame header
bit 8 debug probe and disconnect
bit 9 debug irq
bit 10 debug handling of isochronus transfer
bit 11 debug parsing of usb data
bit 12 debug handling of scratch
bit 13 debug utility functions
bit 14 debug i2c stuff
NAME: flags
TYPE: bitmask
DEFAULT: 0
DESC: This is a bit mask, and you can combine any number of bits to produce what you want.
Usually you don't want any of extra features this option provides:
bit 0 FLAGS_RETRY_VIDIOCSYNC This bit allows to retry failed
VIDIOCSYNC ioctls without failing.
Will work with xawtv, will not
with xrealproducer. Default is
not set.
bit 1 FLAGS_MONOCHROME Activates monochrome (b/w) mode.
bit 2 FLAGS_DISPLAY_HINTS Shows colored pixels which have
magic meaning to developers.
bit 3 FLAGS_OVERLAY_STATS Shows tiny numbers on screen,
useful only for debugging.
bit 4 FLAGS_FORCE_TESTPATTERN Shows blue screen with numbers.
bit 5 FLAGS_SEPARATE_FRAMES Shows each frame separately, as
it was received from the camera.
Default (not set) is to mix the
preceding frame in to compensate
for occasional loss of Isoc data
on high frame rates.
bit 6 FLAGS_CLEAN_FRAMES Forces "cleanup" of each frame
prior to use; relevant only if
FLAGS_SEPARATE_FRAMES is set.
Default is not to clean frames,
this is a little faster but may
produce flicker if frame rate is
too high and Isoc data gets lost.
NAME: dga
TYPE: integer (0-1) boolean
DEFAULT: 1
DESC: This will set the option for DGA video to either Yes or No. Default is 1.
NAME: PowerOnAtOpen
TYPE: integer (0-1) boolean
DEFAULT: 1
DESC: This will set the device to power on automatically when opened. Default is 1.
NAME: SwitchSVideoInput
TYPE: integer (0-1) boolean
DEFAULT: 0
DESC: To help people with Black and White output with using s-video input. Some cables and input devices are wired differently.
If you are getting a black and white image when using the S-Video input. Set this parameter to 1. Default is 0, since most
devices do not have this problem.
NAME: CustomDevice
TYPE: string
DEFAULT: NULL

FINAL NOTE:
If your device isn't known, add it to usbvision_device_data and usbvision_table in usbvision.h.
You can speed up tuner detection, when adding "options tuner addr=your_addr" to /etc/modules.conf.
If your device isn't known, edit line (modprobe usbvision CustomDevice="0x0573 0x4D31 0 7113 3 PAL 1 1 1 5 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1")
in 'usbvision.rc' file then 'usbvision.rc start'
also edit "etc/rc.d/init.d/usbvision" if you use it
Please tell me your experience ([email protected]), or contact ([email protected]).
=============================================================
As described it is a PAL device. There are options for TV included.
I am interested in single frame capture and video stream capture via the camera input connectors(NTSC-stereo audio). My camera is a PIXERA and has video NTSC output.
The following is reference to the USBVISION tar.gz which seems to require ZORAN in the kernel. It used to be called ZORAN/NOGATECH.
It would seem necessary to enable ZORAN in the latest kernel in order to implement the device. Other requirements are likely as well.
Perhaps a pkg could be built but certainly seems a big challenge!
My DVC80 is recognized in USB.
Hopefully, it can be done in arch!
EDIT:The tar.gz reference below:
file:///root/Desktop/usbvision-0.9.8.2.tar.gzI use this one with Windows 7:http://www.chronos.com.tw/Product/E/2/USB%20Movie%20Editor/USB%20Movie%20Editor.htm
It worked bad with out of box Windows 7.
But after all updates it works very well and stable.
A nice thing is that it has little USB extender cable included. So it is less harmful for laptop usb port. -
I have imported footage shot in 16x9 format and have tried to export it from FCE but have only been successful one time. I read the other posts and the link to http://www.fcpbook.com/Video8.html and http://www.fcpbook.com/Video9.html but I cannot duplicate the one 16x9 Quicktime Movie I created. I purchased Quicktime Pro so I could adjust the video scaling as mentioned in Video 9, but it still isn't working.
Here is a step-by-step account of what I've tried:
1) Export movie using Quicktime Conversion
2) Selecting Options and Size, modifying it to Manual 853x480
3) When I open it in Quicktime Player Pro, it is still letterboxed, so I choose Show Movie Properties, Select the Video Track and turn off the preserve aspect ratio (the Scaled Size is already 853x480) the red close window button becomes solid as if waiting for a save dialog button to be pressed, but there is not one and so I close out the properties window and the video is still letterboxed.
I greatly appreciate any assistance. My sister is anxiously awaiting her wedding video and I am frustrated at the effort it is taking in FCE to do this when iMovie HD handles 16x9 without problem (but not more than one video track!).
Thanks.Sounds like you didn't make a new sequence after you changed the easy setup and edited in the original 4:3 sequence.
You can make a new 16:9 sequence and copy and paste the material from the old sequence to the new. The clips will however be distorted. You'll have to remove the distortion from the Edit menu. Other things like graphics and stills may have to be fixed as well. -
Aspect Ratios and Video Distortion
I am trying to take a video that was recorded at 1440x1080 and shrink it down to 192x144. When I currently do that, it extremely distorts the video. How do I avoid this?
OK. Got it.
What I would do if I were you is create a sequence at that size, 192X64.
Bring your footage in and scale it down to fit in that little space. You might find that you pan around the larger frame instead of scaling it all the way down. For example, if you scaled it way down to about four times the size, you could show 1/4 of the frame, then another 1/4, then another, etc. Or, you could focus on the very best part of each frame. Kind of like zooming way in.
In this way, you will know exactly what it will look like upon export to 192X64.
This first image is actually a frame from a 1920X1080 video scaled down to fit the forum software requirements, The second image is what might look good on the matrix board.
Now, it doesn't look bad on my monitor, but how it will look on the scoreboard is something you will have to decide.
Keep in mind that with a ratio of 3 to 1, you really want to shoot your video very carefully to make the interesting parts a lot wider than they are tall. Shooting basketball players.... Well.... They better be laying on the court. -
Need some tips for premiere cs6 video editing
I have recorded professionally in a sound proof room with a microphone mc's, it's really good video quality and the sound quality is perfect too.
I have recorded with 2 different devices at different angles i'm going to remove sound from both video clips and use the recorded mp3 file made in Adobe Audition CS6 (amazing program) I want to have the 2nd angle recording put in the video so it shows the main video then the 2nd in a little box in the top corner, how can i do this?
Also any tips people can suggest for me on Speedgrade CS6 or After effects CS6 that will improve the viewing experience will be very appreciated.
Last thing playback in Premiere and after effects is very slow, no computer faults my laptop is extremely fast but one thing i've had this laptop about 8 months and not updates the graphics card, would it be that or is there a way to fix this? when i try playblack in after effects it says something like '0.9/29 frames (not real time), i downloaded quicktime i thought this was real time?
