Video screen looks squished!

So I put my video which was created at 720 x 480 into the video slot.
Works fine but it appears squashed.
Im assuming that is because the aspect ratio is not standard.
Any way to make it look correct to my original or do I have to live with fat looking butts and faces while in STP.

The video was made by exporting to Quicktime from Keynote.
Since Keynote still has very lame soundtrack inclusion capabilities, I used STP to cut a synchronized audio track to my Quicktime movie.
That soundtrack was exported as an AIFF and then pasted into the audioo track of my Quicktime movie.
I only had the movie dropped into the video track in STP to be able to see what I was doing.
But it looked squished.
That is the cruxt of my question.

    1. Music files and error message...are these music files from iTunes? If so, convert them to .wav in iTunes to convert them to wav version, and then import the .wav version into Premiere Elements 13 project using Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the wav version to the Soundtrack.
The following are the instructions for the iTunes converting

If any problems with the instructions, please let me know, and I will go through them with you.
    2. How you set up the project and the export settings that you select greatly influence your end product result.
    a. What are the properties of the source media?
    b. What project preset did you (manually) or the project (automatically) set to match the properties of the source media.
(If you do not know, please tell us what you see for the readings of Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio - even
if the fields look grayed out.)
    c. For your export...Publish+Share/Computer/and then what? And what preset? Did you use the default settings of the preset or did you
customize the export settings of the preset under the preset's Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thanks.

  • The screen looks squished to the right for Facebook and Yahoo! on my MAC using FF 3.6.8

The screen started looking strange last night so I used a different browser on Facebook. This morning, the same issue is happening with Yahoo! home page. The screen data is all squished to the right. I close the browser in the evening and then "quit" so that the computer can automatically restart as scheduled in the middle of the night. The cache is cleared by this process. I have a MAC on OS 10.4. The only update I've done recently is to download the latest Open Office version.

I must have forgotten; it wasn't exactly FF support, but Mozillazine. '''Thank you for the pointer'''. The "long list" I was thinking of was in fact about:config, which is pointed to by that page.
Given all that, I think it should be easier to find Mozillazine from the FireFox support pages.

  • Video out from iPod Classic looks "squished" on my TV

I have a new iPod Classic which replaced a 5G video iPod. I have edited my photos in iPhoto to the 16:9 ratio to watch slideshows from my iPod on my 16:9 plasma TV using an iPod dock from Apple. Now when I hook up my new iPod to the same TV, using the same dock, the video output now looks "squished", and there are black bars above and below the image. When I watch the same slideshow on another TV using my Apple TV, the images look fine, and fill up the entire screen. Any idea why? Do I need a new dock?

And your TV is set to "Full" or the like? I'm used to Sony HDTVs, so I don't know what the setting would be on your TV, but the largest Widescreen setting.
That's the only thing I can think of, especially since you said when you tested it on another TV it worked. So it must be your TV and neither the iPod nor the cable. The way the iPod and cable work together really shouldn't change from TV to TV unless the TV itself has an issue.

hello! My iMac frozed and I had to switch the electricty supply off and on in order to start again the system, with the problem that the screen looks wierd, I tried to calibrate it... doesnt works any suggestion?

Dear Paul, thank you very much for your time and answer, I followed those steps, somehow it helped the performance of my Imac, is faster now, but the screen issue about the very High contrast colours is still there. Since I am a photographer I am very depending on the screen calibration. I am worried that I came to damage the video card when I shut down the computer from the swicth when It was frozed.

  • Qosmio F10: Monitor screen looks like an Andy Warhol picture

I am currently having problems with my monitor screen looking like an Andy Warhol picture. I have resorted to going through the Product Recovery DVD-ROM for my Qosmio F10/G10 Laptop in the hope that reverting it back to the factory settings would solve the problem but it hasn't.
The screen breaks down after the Windows welcome screen, leaving me with my desktop all Andy Warhol like (i.e. blocks of pixilated colour at the edges of the graphics). I have tried to reset the resolution which solves the problem to an almost acceptable level but on a temporary basis, because the problem re-appears again when I re-boot the laptop.
I think that it is something to do with the Windows Multimedia Operating system that was preinstalled on my computer (so no recovery disc). The reasoning behind this assumption is that I put a DVD film into the Multimedia that is part of Windows XP and the film is a moving Andy Warhol video.
I put the same DVD into the WinDVD that came as a Toshiba additional content and the DVD is perfect! My reasoning is, that if there was something wrong with the hardware of the Laptop, then all DVD reading programs would react the same way, but as they do not, it must be a programming (or operating system problem).
Am I on the right lines? Is there a way to solve the problem via a downloadable file?

Thanks guys for your replies, sorry if my question is confusing, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it without the use of a screen dump to show you.
At the moment I haven't got another monitor to try, even though this looks as though it would have been the easiest option. I shall start asking round to see if I can borrow one to eliminate that variable.
However I will try to reinstall and to update "Graphic Drivers" to get rid out of this display problem.
    Thanks to all.

  • Video screen effect

Hi, was wondering if someone could help me pls! I am doing a title sequence for a charity cabaret I was involved in organising, had it filmed and now Im editing it together. Im doing it up like the Saturday Night Live titles (big fan!) I've used footage I have taken from around London of theatres etc. mucked around with them in photoshop freezeframed them taken out the original theatre signs and replaced them with either pictures or strobed video footage. Im doing one of them in Picadilly Circus, bit fiddly, I want to try and mimic the video screen effect that you get. What I mean is the small lines that make up a video screen, so it looks vaguely connected to the picture. I;ve tried some filiters, but none of them look good. Halftone kind of works but its in black and white, I want to keep it in colour. I have tried doing a texture screen but the shapes dont seem to work at all. I hope Ive explained myself well! Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Just came up with an idea - take the stripes generator, rotate it, put a compound blur on it and feed that with the image you want to do the line-screen with, then put a threshold on that and voilá!
    Here's a project that demonstrates...
Is this what you had in mind?

How do I stop those effects in the video screen?

    Hi Richard,
    Is this a camcorder ?
If so it is from the camera in demo mode.
You need to set it to Camera mode with the tape out like you were going to strat recording.
You would use the same feed to record direct to a VCR on use a TV as monitor.

  • Why doe the blacks on my screen look so dark?

I have an early 2009 Macbook Pro 17" glossy unibody. When I watch Lost on it, the darker parts of any given scen seem to just crap out, the screen in those areas looks like it's turned off. And it seems that even dim parts are just gone. The rest of the screen looks normal, and non-video looks normal.
When I watch the same file on my ipad, those same dark areas show content, dark, but I can see detail.
Its' as if the LCD screen on the macbook pro simply can't handle a certain level of black. Does anyone have insight into this? Is this common and normal or should I be taking a trip to the genius bar.
Keep in mind, the screen does not feel damaged or anyting, it's just for movies and videos downloaded from itunes, the darker areas, just go completely black... it's really anoying. I try adjusting the tilt on the screen and the brightness. I even made new profiles in the monitors control panel, but no luck.
    Thanks!
    Ethan-

When you made a new color profile, did you try a different gamma setting? Try 1.8 instead of 2.2. Or something in between. See if that helps.

  • Problem with video screen on I-pod Video?

Ok,the video screen has went completely wonky....There's no picture at all,the top half of the screen is like a grey colour and the bottom half is like a really light grey, almost white and the bottom half has got these Black blotches over it and some lines going up,kinda looks like cracks but i felt the outside screen and can't feel any cracks on it...Could the LCD screen be cracked on the inside and would that totally distort the whole screen from me seeing anything.
I can still hear music,it's just nothings coming up on the screen so i'm assuming that it's the LCD screen that's the problem, not the i-pod itself!

Well i sent it away Monday with special delivery, got phone call on Tuesday saying it was fixed so i should get it back by Thursday....My baby's coming back to me
I'm so silly,i was gonna ask you if you wanted the site i sent it to but then noticed your from America which don't do much good seeing as the place is in England!

  • Editing for video screens

Hi I have to edit some videos and still images to project on a video screen.
The dimensions I have been given are 480 x 320 pi and the screen measures 3,48 x 2,32
I have created a sequence in final cut pro 7 with Apple Pro Res and dimensions 480 x 320 but somehow what I preview on my computer doesn't look 100%.
Do you think my video will be alright once screened ? or SHould be using different settings ?
    Many thanks !

Don't edit that size...edit in the size of the footage...or more importantly, in a size that FCP works with.  1920x1080 ProRes 422...or 1280x720, depending on your source footage. And when you are done editing, EXPORT to those dimensions.
480x320 is awfully small.  Smaller than SD.

  • *** How do I get the "really wide" screen look?

I am shooting HDV with a Sony Z1U and love the results, but I wondered about something. I would like my finished projects to have the "really wide" screen look similar to a 2:35 panoramic. I know this is achievable by letterboxing the footage, primarily because there aren't too many panoramic tv's, but my main concern is for the web.
Is there a way to make my online clips appear really wide? Currently I export 480x270 for the web, but like the look I saw on the latest Superman trailer where the dimmensions could be either 480x200 or 650x270 depending on how you scaled down the quicktime window.
Obviously I don't want any squishing but my question is, do I have to shoot with an adaptor to get this look or can I just place a 2:35 matte on my footage and somehow export through quictime conversion so as not to see the black bars on top and bottom?
Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance...

You can't shoot native 2.35:1 with the Z1U using a special lens, if that's what you're wondering. You must letterbox and/or place your footage in a custom-sized sequence.
To spell that out for you:
    Create a new HDV sequence
With the sequence open and active in the Timeline, open Sequence Settings (Command-0) [that's Zero]
Alter Aspect Ratio to Custom, then alter Frame Size to 1440x816
(It must be done in that order - Aspect Ratio, then Frame Size - to work correctly)
Nest your final sequence (or your completed movie) into this new sequence.
(If your sequence or clip was letterboxed to 2.35:1, it will be windowboxed [black on all 4 sides]. Otherwise, it will be pillarboxed [black on the left & right sides].)
Select your nested sequence or clip(s), then bring up the Remove Attributes dialog (Option-Command-V), select Basic Motion (in case it's not preselected), then click OK
(The trailer should now fill the frame, with any letterboxing cropped off)
File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion and be sure to specify a custom size. Full size would be 1920x816, so calculate according to that ratio (not 1440x816)
