Video sent as MMS, not as a iMessage (send as sms option is disabled)

Hi, everything works great on my iPhone 4S 64GB iOS6.
By the way, today I tried to send a videoclip thru iMessage to another iPhone 4S with iOS6, I was connected at my WiFi, the iPhone displayed the error "iMessage not sent, retry please" or something similar.
I tapped the "retry" button and my iPhone sent the videoclip as a 60 cents MMS and not as a free iMessage!
The option "send as sms" is disabled in my iphone.
Do I have to disable "MMS messaging" option too? If I disable this option can I receive MMS from other phones?
Thanks,

I think I'll leave the flag on "MMS Messaging" but when I'll have to send an image or a video thru iMessage I'll disable that option for few seconds to be sure that the Service Provider won't leach my €€€€€

  • Iphone videos sent via mms are crap. Why?

I want to know what the heck happened and who dropped the ball on iPhone video MMS. It gets compressed to the point where it is completely unable to be made out. Not to mention there is no zoom option. Maybe I could understand if you're sending a video to someone without an iPhone and the quality is poor, but even iPhone to iPhone its the same. I think its totally ridiculous for a phone that is suppose to be so great... I'm tired of getting videos that I can't even see a facial expression just a blob on the screen. One other thing I would like to know. Why is it that phones I had before the iPhone was EVEN out had better video MMS capabilities?? Its just BS.
Apple should fix this problem with all iphones old and new... I have the iPhone 4 32gb and I BET this problem was overlooked again with the 4s!
    Signed - Obviously Aggravated.

Sending an iPhone video via email doesn't change the quality... It is still a pixelated mess. I'm thinking carriers have nothing to do with it. Plus it still doesn't explain better quality videos I've experienced with previous phones using the same carrier. (I have to use a downloaded app to make videos crisp quality then upload it to the computer) It's the phone.

  • I'm having issues with iMessage. It works fine on wifi and I receive messages as iMessage without issue in network or wifi. However as I send a message it starts as iMessage then says not delivered. Then sends as SMS since I have it enabled.

iMessage works on wifi without issue. However I receive messages on network but can't send. I send a message it starts sending as iMessage ten says it can't send. Then starts to send as SMS since it's enabled. I have reset network sertings, updated to ios7, etc and done about 3 othe suggested in order resets to get it to work and it still hasn't started working when I'm not on wifi. Any suggestions?
It's a iPhone 4S. I have two iPhones. One setup to receive iMessage just to its phone number. Therapeutic to receive to its phone and email. I wouldn't think that would be the issue as all 3 are separate. Bone the same going to both phones.
    Thanks for the help!!!

  • IMessage sending as SMS even though SMS is off I am hitting "try again" instead of "send as SMS"

This is a problem that has only started happening in the last month or few weeks.
    1.  I have "turn sms off" in settings.
    2.  This happens with people who I know have iPhones with whom I iMessage regularly.
    3.  When the network connection is poor, and I attempt to send an iMessage, I get the exclamation mark.  Before the last month or so, I would hit the exclamation mark and choose "try again" and if the connection is better, it would go as an iMessage, or if not, it will give me an exclamation mark again.
    4.  In the last month or so, when I hit "try again" it doesn't try again and will just go as a SMS automatically, even when I am back in a good network connection spot.
    5.  I have neither changed equipment nor networks in the last year.
I find this to be highly misleading and problematic.  Is this a bug that just started recently?
Does anyone know what is going on or how to prevent the iMessage from going as SMS?  I understand how to iMessage instead of SMS'ing so please responding about the basics is not helpful.  Thanks!

All that does is keep it from falling back to SMS if an iMessage fails to go through.
If the individual you're messaging isn't an iPhone user or has iMessage disabled, it will always go as a normal SMS message.

  • IMessages sending as SMS even though option is disabled?

Yeah, question says it all really..
The option to send as SMS when iMessage is set to "off" but it will still send as SMS?
    I have an iPhone 5, not a 4 so..

If iMessage is "off" as you say then the iPhone will send as SMS, again as you have stated, "will still send as SMS. If you want to attempt an iMessage you need to turn iMessage ON, in addition the recipient must have iPhone with iMessage ON, and they must have enabled Data or WiFi must be on with internet connection.

  • Blackberry 8310 not showing reply or send in sms text options menu

I have a blackberry 8310. iam able to recieve sms text messages but when i click to on options, there is no "reply" option in the menu for me to be able to reply to the text. The chip works fine in other phones so that tells me something in the phone is not set right. There is no option for me to even compose and fresh sms text message. Please help?

    Here ya' go:
    1. Get a good backup of your device: BB device backup (I keep all my backups in a separate folder created for that purpose so they are always in one place and easy to find.)
    2. Download the most recent version of device software for your carrier: Downloading BB device software
    3. Reinstall the device software: Clean reload of device software
    4. Pull the battery out with the device ON. Wait about a minute and put the battery back in. Let the BB completely restart.
    5. Once you have the device OS successfully installed you will then need to reinstall any 3rd party apps you currently have on your device: Install applications using the app loader tool
    6. Complete another battery pull routine after each 3rd party app installation to reclaim memory and refresh your BB.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Videos sent via mms are not playing on iPhone 4s.

My nephew has iphone 4s just like me.  when i send him mms videos he says they won't play. I send the same video to my husband's 4s and no problem.  I think my nephew's settings are the issue but I am not sure what to tell him.  He lives in another state so I can't look at his settings.  What should my nephew look for in his settings to allow videos to play?

  • IMessage on my mac says every contact is not registered with iMessage

When I type a contact to send an iMessage to from my mac, it turns red and says "message could not be sent, contact is not registered with iMessage"

    Hi,
Start with the Apple ID site and the Manage ID option.
Check your Apple ID is verified and also that any Alternative email including the Recovery ID is also verified.
Check in Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account that the Apple ID is actually set to be active "Receive At" option
Same for any other email you have added.
In Contacts app check the Preferences > General section is set to the same Country/Region as the computer.
In System Preferences > Date and Time make sure the Date and Time are correct including the Time Zone and Daylight Saving if it applies.
It is worthwhile setting the Automatic Time Server function.
In the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Server enter ~/Library/Preferences into the dialogue box that appears.
In the Preferences find the com.apple.imessage.bag.plist file and (With the Messages app Quit) drag it to the Trash.
This file will hold the server the iMessages account is trying to use.
    (Restart the app afterwards)

how can iPhone videos sent to another iPhone be made clear like they were recorded even though it sent as a text. with iMessage it's clear but when it's not available the quality *****, how can I make a received vid clear again??? help

This is determined by your carrier. SMS/MMS is a poor man's email and by that I mean SMS/MMS has major restrictions and limitations compared to email but is a cash cow for cell phone carriers.
Upload the video to YouTube when connected via wifi and send the YouTube link via text.

  • I can't open a wmv. video sent to me via email.  I can on my laptop, but not my new ipad

Why can't I open a wmv. video sent in an email?

WMV or Windows Media Video is not a natively supported video format on an iPad.
You need to download an App that can play that video format.

  • How to send a SMS not an iMessage to other iPhone?

I Want to send a text message (SMS) to another iPhone but it keeps sending as an iMessage, does anyone know how I can get it so that im sending an SMS? (currently using an iPhone 5c on latest iOS 8.2)

    Hi becca,
If you are sending a text to a non Apple device/computer, it is always sent as an SMS (or MMS, if you are sending pictures or videos with the text). Texts sent to Apple products that are registered with iMessage will always be sent as iMessages.

  • "Share" button for video in Messages app not giving any option except email

I recently started having an issue on my iPhone whereby I receive a video via iMessage and tap the "share" button, and instead of the usual choice of share options, there is only one displayed: "Mail". All the other options, such as "Save to Camera Roll", "Print", "Copy", "Assign to Contact", "Twitter" and "Facebook" are missing. So I can only "share" the video by email. This prevents me from saving the video to my Camera Roll.
Despite this, I can still play the video from within the Messages app, so there is no obvious problem with the video itself.
The person sending the video is using an iPhone 5, and I am using an iPhone 3GS. Earlier videos sent by the same person using the same phone did not have this issue.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Ok, I managed to find the root cause, and a workaround of sorts.
I took my phone into the Apple store. They hadn't seen the problem before, but they were able to find a few other threads describing the same issue:
      https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4404114?start=0&tstart=0
      https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4383813?start=0&tstart=0
The one thing all the threads have in common is that the phone receiving the video is older (specifically, a 3GS). The Apple staff said it's probably because the newer iPhones are generating video in a format which the 3GS does not support. This is despite the 3GS being able to play the video within the Messages app, which is a bit odd.
This theory appeared to be confirmed when I inspected the video on my Apple Mac - when I right click and choose "Get Info", the newer videos which have this issue are 540 x 960 and generated in iOS 6.1.3, while the older videos which don't have the issue are 272 x 480 and generated in older versions of iOS. So the picture quality has increased. This is despite the videos being generated by the same physical phone (I'm pretty sure they are anyway).
Based on this hint, I was able to get the videos into my 3GS's Camera Roll by converting the format of the video as follows:
Copy the video to an Apple Mac (you can do this by connecting the iPhone to the Mac via USB, and then running Image Capture.app on the Mac).
Open the video in Quicktime.app (in my case, I'm running v10.2)
Choose File > Export > Format > "iPod touch and iPhone 3GS". This generates a copy of the video in .m4v format (MPEG-4) optimized for iPhone 3GS.
Copy the new video back to the phone [*]
Tap the Share button, and voila - Save to Camera Roll option is there and works as expected.
If you don't have an Apple Mac, there may be an equivalent way to convert the video in Windows.
Of course, copying the video on to a computer, converting the video format, and copying it back to the phone might be more trouble than you want to go to just to save it to your Camera Roll!!!
[*] Copying the converted video back to the phone is a bit of a pain. Since I'm using iCloud, I used the Messages app on the Mac to send a message to myself with the video attached [!]. Following this, I could open the video in the Messages app on the phone. An alternative might be to email it to yourself. I also tried copying the video using iTunes, but this was no good: the video ends up in the phone's "Movies" app, which unfortunately plays the video incorrectly in landscape format and appears to have no Share button.

  • Why are 4s text messages sent as MMS?

I don't have an iPhone 4S, however, more than one person has sent me text messages (only text, no pictures, video, or audio) using their 4S and they are always sent as multimedia (MMS) messages instead of SMS. It seems to happen when they compose a new text, but when they reply to one of my SMS messages, it replies as SMS.
It's quite annoying, especially since I don't have a plan with unlimited messages and MMS cost me something like a quarter a piece... for something that does not have any multimedia content.
So what's the deal? Is this an iPhone issue, or only an issue with specific carriers? I haven't asked which carriers my friends use, but I believe it's Verizon and/or AT&T. I don't believe it is an issue with pre- 4S iPhones.

If the sender is sending out multiple SMS's at the same time, this could be the problem. Most carrier's will send multiple SMS's as MMS...nothing a sender can do about this, except not send multiple SMS's at once.

  • IMessages being sent as SMS with Send as SMS turned off

I had an unhappy experience with iMessage. I had about a 1 1/2 hour period on 4/9 where my iMessages were being sent as SMS texts. I have Send as SMS set to Off and I have never had this happen before. I don't remember the iMessages screen changing to indicate it was sending as SMS.
Overall very strange since there should be no way that the messages were sent as SMS with Send as SMS turned off. This is a problem because  I do not have a messaging plan since I don't use SMS so if it switches to SMS and I don't know it the charges could rack up. The hour and a half cost me $8 in SMS charges as it is.
If having Send as SMS set to off does not insure that messages are not sent as SMS texts then what will?

Yes, they were listed as SMS messages on my bill. I was texting all day with one person but it was only this 1 1/2 hour period that was changed to SMS. Nothing before or after that and it's never happened before to me. All very strange. The problem is that if this happened for a longer period it would get very costly and I would not notice it untill I got the bill.
I'm getting my gf to add her email address to her messages account and I will be messaging that from now on. Hopefully iMessage can't turn that into an SMS.
It would be great if there were some way to actually prevent iMessage from sending SMS, but the Send as SMS setting obviously does not work. The only other thing I can think is that it was sending the texts as MMS messages. There is not much if any documentation on the relationship between MMS, SMS, and iMesssage.
