Video sharing with best quality

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post it.
I am new to this technology/area of preparing video by getting best quality and no pains in viewing it over web.
I am going to shoot mostly family events or kids activities.
I am planning to buy a HD camcorder.
But to get best quality while capturing the video/source, what to look for in camcorder and any preferences about the models in the market?
After capturing the video at best quality, what are the next steps in preparing this for web delivery? What softwares/tools do i need to use to get the best video quality for sharing over web with out any pain (like buffering/slow start) while viewing?
I am more concerned about sharing videos of best quality and I am OK to spend extra bucks to achieve this.
Please suggest me or direct me to any source where i could get this information.
Thanks, Eswar

Eswar ~ The following is just one suggestion of many possible ways of delivering videos to the Web. Click on this link to see one of Apple's demo _MobileMe Gallery_ videos:
http://gallery.me.com/emily_parker#100624
...at lower right of the video there is a fullscreen button you can click. That video was produced in _iLife '08_ iMovie s/w which allows it to be published in a wide range of sizes for optimal viewing on iPhone, Web, AppleTV, etc. See this video tutorial "_Sharing to MobileMe Gallery_".
In iWeb, you can view a list of all the albums and movies in your MobileMe Gallery, and incorporate any of them in an iWeb page. Visitors can click to go directly to your MobileMe Gallery. See this _video tutorial_ — just over half-way through, where it says: +"To embed a MobileMe Gallery..."+
MobileMe Gallery's maximum video resolution is 960x540. Alternative HD video sharing sites such as Vimeo support 1280x720. And according to this _comparison of video services_, also Dailymotion, YouTube and _HD share_. ...But with 1280x720, depending on their connection speed, some viewers may see buffering/slow start problems.
Here's an example of an HD video on YouTube. ...Once on the page, click on "watch in HD" at lower right of the video and click the fullscreen icon. Another thing to consider is how powerful a CPU would be required on a PC or Mac to view 1280x720 video satisfactorily. Apple's MobileMe Gallery cap of 960x540 may be in regard to this, together with connection speed considerations.
But to get best quality while capturing the video/source, what to look for in camcorder and any preferences about the models in the market?
I don't have any specific recommendations, but one thing to consider is that Apple, like camcorder manufacturers, appears to be moving away from Firewire connectivity and towards USB connectivity — so you may want to concentrate your search for camcorders with that in mind. • How to produce HD video files with best quality/size ratio?

I have used the HC3 for 2 days with iMovie and iDVD on my mac mini.
When i started to import the footage with iMovie, i started to do it manually, moving forward and backward between scenes. This caused iMovie to crash very frequently. I then chose to let iMovie import the footage by itself and everything went fine.
I then easily added the chapters, transfered to iDVD and created a DVD with menus in 1 hour. I am really exited about how fast i was able to create a very nice DVD.
However i am trying to convert the footage from iMovie into a small (100-200 MB) in a 16:9 format but I am getting very big files that are not as sharp as the original or some other examples i saw on the web such as the examples in this page about the Sanyo DMX-HD1:
    http://www.akihabaranews.com/review-62-SanyoDMX-HD1%2C+everything+except+for+HD%2C+thedisappointment.html
Would you have any recommendation about the settings to export in quicktime or other format? Which video codec provides the best quality/size ratio? H.264? MPEG4? interlace or not?
    ~Antheo

I'm not familiar wih HiDef content - look at my hardware specs... I'm based in the early 90ies, way before 1080p etc..
    Prof Pixel made some... observations...

most codecs, which are implemented in Quicktime, are between good and excellent; my personal favorit is mp4, but in this case, I prefer the algorithms of http://isquint.org/; it also offers a h264 converter, which, I've read, should be excelllent, a little faster then Apple's and with excellent results...
compression depends very much on content and final output media... I'm afraid, you really need to do some tests on your own....

  • Videos .avi with poor quality on iDVD.

I am new user on Mac. I work with soccer match analysis and I have to use the softaware on windows plataform.
I creat videos (.avi) with good quality if I watch on Windows Media Player or TV. When I watch on my Mac, they have a real poor quality (defocused and trembled).
I used to creat my videos on this software (windows) and I burn de DVD on iDVD.
Do I have to convert my .avi videos to any other extension file?
When I converted my .avi files to .ogm files the quality was better, but I couldnt use these files on iDVD.
Are there anything that I could try to get better quality on my video files?

    Hi
I would convert the .avi to streamingDV and use this in iDVD.
    .avi
You can use MPEG-Streamclip to convert the AVI files so that QuickTime can play them
    and to streamingDV for iMovie.

  • Is it possible that the Video sharing with wifi in...

    Hi everyone:
If there any method to let video sharing work without 3G.
when I'm home, it will be more cheap and it will get more bandwidth from wifi rather than the 3G data connections.
Is there any body konw the method of configuration of video sharing with wifi?
    Thank you very much.

You might also consider consulting an optometrist or physical therapist. It's possible that you're squinting without realising it or otherwise tensing up your face and neck muscles, either of which could easily cause puffy eyes and quite possibly skin irritation. I strongly doubt that it's any radiation from the screen itself. There are no magnetic fields from an LCD screen, and no more infrared radiation than from your TV and far less than any sunlit window.

Flash video is becoming popular because you can have a player embedded
in your web page that will stream video that will play on nearly any
browser without additional plug-ins. You can get decent quality at a
    decent size.

  • What's the best setting to save  footage (.mov) to dvd/cd with best quality

Hi, I'm editing a little movie that might be played later on tv/cinema. I 'm trying to keep/burn my footage into a lighter format but I can't guess which setting is the best. Would the setting be good enough? (also do I burn it on a dvd or data cd?...) Is somebody could help me? Thank you, Laurence
(my footage were filmed with a 4 chip camera)

If you have the camera to import into iMovie I don't understand why you can't send it back to tape. That will be the best quality and the fastest time.
If your PowerBook doesn't have a DVD burner you could take the tape and camera to a friend that has a Mac and a DVD burner. Send the file to iMovie and then iDVD for burning.
Once you export to a lower quality QuickTime file some of the quality will be lost forever. The tape would be identical to the iMovie version.
There is no "best" export method because every file is different. I would use Movie to QuickTime movie, sized at 640X480 and select the H.264 video codec and Apple Loseless audio codec set at 48kHz stereo. Use the same frame rate as your source and a bit rate about 2,000.

  • What is the best YouTube app with best quality?

I need to know the best quality YouTube app that has good speed, picture/video, and is popular/has all the videos on the web/ YouTube .....
    - As iOS 6 ridded the YouTube app.

On either iPad or iPhone/iPod Touch, The most direct and straightforward option is to use youtube.com from Safari. When the page loads, tap the Share button and select Add To Home Screen so you will have an icon like you did in iOS 5. When you make a video full screen, it will load the best quality it can within the constraints of your bandwidth and screen resolution (whether it's an iPad, iPad 2, or iPad (3rd generation) with Retina Display).
On iPhone the most direct and straightforward option is the YouTube app, developed by Google and available in the iOS App Store.
There may be third-party apps that do different things with various degrees of finesse, but try the simple approach that for your device first; you may be happy with it. And do share your findings here if you discover a good third-party app for this!

  • Problem with "Best Quality" DVDs

I put together a few DVDs using iDVD 6. One was a little under an hour and encoded fine with the default "Best Performance." This one plays in all the DVD players in my house, no problem. Two others were a little over an hour and iDVD 6 said there was too much information and to switch to "Best Quality." I did so and created the DVDs. They play fine on my PowerBook and iMac, but do not play in any other DVD players (which are pretty new). They appear not to be recognized ("No Disc Inserted" or it keeps spinning).
Short of cutting out some content to make things fit with "Best Performance" (not really an option), does anyone know how to get around this problem?
    TIA
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Verbatim printable DVD-R
That's what I use and have very few problems with other people's players. Zero problems with my Sony players. Give it a try.
As far as burning speeds, the following includes info on how to do that by creating a disk image.
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Export to DVD with Best Quality

I am wondering what is the best way to export a movie for burning to a DVD. I have two movies, each about 20 minutes long. Mostly consists of pictures set to music, with some video clips mixed in. Each movie will be burned to their own DVD (single layer). Will be showing the movies on an HDTV via DVD (Standard DVD Player with upconvert connected via HDMI).
I'm wrestling with the options of exporting as an MP4 file from Imovie, and then to a DVD, but I understand that is limited to 720 and I'm concerned about quality loss due to compression.
    OR
Export to Quicktime and then converting that to something which will go on a DVD (my understanding is that IDVD won't add a .mov file directly to a DVD).
I don't want to buy any other software if I can avoid it, so if there are freeware options outside of this that are simple to use, I'm open to other suggestions.

The best possible comes from exporting your movie as QT movie (NOT conversion) same settings, self contained (leave recompress all frames unchecked).
That will be your master and is ready to be used in Compressor for your mpeg2 and ac3 to send to DVDstudio.

  • Best performance vs. Best quality in iDVD Prefs!?

What is the difference? i have selected "best quality" and see no difference in picture, but one can fit more onto a dvd with best quality vs. performance. what is the difference!? thanks!

A quick, simple explanation is given in David Pogue's little iLife '04 manual. I will pare it down a little:
"Given that a blank DVD contains a limited amount of space, how much picture-quality data can it afford to devote to each frame of video?
The Best Perfomance option in iDVD 4 ....allots a fixed, predetermined amount of data to each frame of video--enough to make it look great--no matter how many minutes of video is included. A lot of the DVD might wind up being empty if the project contains less than an hour of video. But, the burning process will go quickly and the video will look really great.
The Best Quality option uses every micron of space on the blank DVD, analyzes the amount of video included and divides it into the amount of space available on the DVD. The amount of information used to describe an indiviual frame of video will vary from project to project, and it will take a lot longer to burn the DVD because of so much analysis. But it will give two hours of great-looking video per disc."

  • Best quality for youtube

I made a video and its 2.01 GB in iMovie. i want to put it on youtube but I want the best possible quality. The limit for youtube is 100MB whats the best way to compress my movie?

    Hi F,
I followed your link and found your instructions about exporting from iMovie with best quality for YouTube.
The instructions were pretty clear, although my options didn't line up with them exactly (I'll tell you my explicit settings below). Still, I exported it successfully.
Then I uploaded the resultant .mov file to YouTube. When it was all finished processing, I viewed it. After the first fraction of a second all I saw was garbage -- just junk patterns filling the screen. The sound was excellent. (by the way, I had lots of very short clips in there -- 00:00:03 in length (not sure what the units are).
So I went back to iMovie, opened up my movie project. Played the video. Now it is intermittent garbage, too. Looks just like the uploaded file, but only intermittently.
Here are the exact options and settings I used for export:
File->Share, chose quicktime and expert settings, pressed the "share" button.
in the Export dialog, I selected "movie to quicktime movie" and clicked on the "options" button.
    Options:
    Video:
    Settings...
    Set compression to mpeg-4
    Set quality to medium
    Set frame rate to 30
Let Key frame and Data rate defaulted (unchecked)
    Filter...
didn't look at this. Now that I do, it's set to "none"
    Size...
Selected the "custom size" radio button and set it to 320 x 240
    Sound:
    Settings...
    format: uncompressed
    sample rate: 44.1khz
    sample size: 16
    channels: 1 (mono)
There was also a check box for "Prepare for internet Streaming"
It was already checked and set to "fast start"
    I didn't change it.
If you could give me any further help, I'd really appreciate it. This was my first attempt to put anything on YouTube.
    Thanks a lot,
    Bruce Delaplain

  • Best quality .AVI for PC viewing

How can i export with best quality AVI for PC viewing. HAS to be AVI. I use the expert settings with keyframe of 10 and 100 kb/sec max, and it is very "blocky".. How to improve the quality.

i created a login just to reply to you cuz i was trying to do the same. i found the answer on: http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/itc/resources/powerpointav/pptvideo.pdf
basically, use "expert settings" "movie to AVI" "options" "settings" "cinepak" "millions of colors" "high" "30 fps" "key frame every 300 frames" "limit data to 400kbytes/sec"
following the above instruction, i was able to export a movie to a decent size avi file that plays on wmp on a pc. (i didn't use sound cuz i didn't have any but there is instruction for sound on the pdf file)
i use a mac but have to create videos that can be viewed on any computer and can be used on a powerpoint presentation. i was so happy when i found a way to make good quality (actually i used "best" rather than "high" under quality), not choppy video for pc and mac viewing.
    hope this helps!
