Video Shorts Out

I'm using a Mini with a Proview 700P monitor with a DVI to VGA adapter and am very happy with the setup until the video blinks off and on a few times then displays this diagonal line pattern, then goes blank, as in No Signal. It happens after a random amount of on-time, anywhere from an hour to eight hours, so I don't think its an overheating issue. It also happens quickly enough that I don't have time to save anything or shut down the computer. The computer seems to still be running even though there's no video. I've tried using a different monitor and it has no effect on the problem. If I restart the computer the problem is gone for a much shorter time before reappearing. Any thoughts on the issue would be much appreciated.

Hi, have you had a resolution to this problem?
I have just bought a 22" widescreen viewsonic and am having the exact same issues, having looked around the discussions on Mini mac there seems to be hundreds of people with the same issues, ie monitor shows no signal, will not stay on, screen disintigrates if any animation is played ie movies, iphoto etc..it is definately a Apple Mini Mac issue nothing to do with the monitor as lots of people with different models ahving same issues...
It seems if you leave the mini off for a while the monior will fire up str8 away, if after it has broken down you try all you get is a NO SIGNAL msg, I also have a PC and have plugged the monitor into it, works with no issues at all have left it running for over 3 days. However, put it back on the mini NO SIGNAL unless I trun of let it cool down, is that the issue?
In addition, if the monitor gives me enough time i HAVE TRIED TO GO INTO DISPLAYS AND have a look at settings, when I do this the monitor shuts down .
Apple this is a real issue, please give us a resolution (oh btw if i use the old monitor 17" flat samsung it works fine, no issues? It seems to be stuck on the settings for the samsung and wont change/accept the new monitor. Hope all this info gives somebody fuel for a fix, thank you.

  • Video & Audio out of sync after update

Ever since I updated my MacBook Pro to OS X Yosemite v10.10 last week, all videos are out of sync with the audio. It wasn't just on Safari while playing YouTube videos or DailyMotion videos, but also when playing videos files on my computer. For short videos, the audio is just a second ahead or behind the video, but for long films it can be minutes apart.
Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone tell me what caused this and how can it be solved? Thanks so much!!!

I have the same issue and it started 3 days ago. This happens with anything I'm watching, netflix, huluplus, youtube, crackle, anything that has audio and video. The biggest issue is that it's also affecting iMovie and Final Cut pro X. This is a MAJOR issue given that I make a living editing video. I hope somebody can find a solution for this issue.

  • Airport Express Shorting Out

I have 2 Airport Expresses both with interesting problems.
The first is less than 5 months old but out of warranty (it was a replacement) and when I plug it in, the green light flashes for a second and then turns off (leading me to believe it's shorting out). Is there a way to open it up and fix this problem?
The other Airport Express is much older (4 years) but still works. However, if I bump it at all, it shorts and resets itself.
What is the deal with these things shorting out so easily and how can I fix it? Any ideas?

I'm sorry I am no help, but I want to document this in case someone else is searching for info in the future.
I don't know for sure if Airport Express is blowing my receiver or not, but right now it is the best guess. I had it hooked up for years and one day my dvd/stereo lost all sound. The power still worked and DVDs had video, but I had no audio.
I bought a replacement, hooked it up, and within a 30 minutes the exact same thing happened. No audio, but video is fine. I haven't fully diagnosed the problem, but as a test I'm installing another system and leaving the Airport Express unhooked. If nothing bad happens, I will assume (hopefully correctly) that something went wrong in the AEX and that caused the problem.
I will respond to this in a few weeks if this seems to be the situation in case someone else is having a similar problem.

  • IPod Shorting Out FM Transmitter(s)??

Hello. I originally posted this on another iPod-oriented forum, and I have to assume that no one has an answer, as it hasn't gotten a single reply yet. Either that, or I don't have enough 'cred' there yet. Nevermind my insecurities, here's the deal:
    IPod Vs. FM Transmitter Problem
Hello. My 5th-generation 30GB Video iPod has had some problems in recent months, but none too devastating. It used to require me to 'reset' it everytime I wanted to use it after a prolonged 'power down' period. Recently, however, it seems like it's destroying FM transmitters...or at least not being willing to play nicely with them.
I first had a Monster FM transmitter that worked great for the longest time, then I believe a short occurred in it that would cause the iPod to automatically 'pause' when it would get jarred a little. I gave up on that cord a little over a month ago and got a Kensington transmitter from Amazon. That worked perfectly for about three days and then just abruptly shorted out and completely died.
But it gets better, and by that, I mean worse. I receive the 'exchange' Kensington transmitter yesterday and that shorts out INSTANTLY. I realize that it's entirely possible that I got two defective items from Amazon consecutively, but I have to believe the problem is on the iPod's end. You see, I went out and picked up an iTrip one at Best Buy today, and that seems to cause the iPod to 'freeze' up, the touch wheel barely functioning when it's attached. The iTrip appears to sustain power, though. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test someone else's iPod with it yet.
My iPod, while connected to my PC, seems to work fine, except that some unknown application is preventing me from ejecting it through iTunes, but whatever. As a standalone device, it also works, and the touch wheel is appropriately responsive. I could be wrong, but I think something happened to it after that Monster cable went on the fritz (even though the resetting nonsense started well before that point). I looked at the USB/power input area, and the 'male' part on the inside almost looks like it's got a tiny char mark on it.
I have the AppleCare Protection Plan, and I'm wondering if the likely scenario is something they'll even assume responsibility for....I've restored the thing twice now since purchase in October '05, having to re-import roughly 5,000 songs after the first time. I don't want to even bother starting that arduous process if this thing is a lemon, if it's going to continue to 'blow up' FM transmitters because of some sort of power surge.
Any concrete information on what's causing this or educated guesses would be greatly appreciated.
I'm about at wit's end with the whole thing, and I'm really concerned that Apple will wash their hands of responsibility. Ever since the 7.0 iTunes update, I've had minor, nagging problems with it, but nothing like the thing potentially being a transmitter mass-murderer.

Have you reset your ipod? That usually helps with any external devices attaching to it.
I'm also wondering (based upon the transmitters you've used so far) if it's not your car lighter that's causing the short? The itrip doesn't use the charger but the others do and since the itrip is working (albeit slowly) the car lighter might be the source.

  • Why do my audio and video get out of synch?

No matter what sort of video I'm trying to play: Youtube, a movie on DVD, a movie on an external hard drive, etc, after a short time the audio and video get out of synch with each other.  This is often, though not always, signaled by a short audio phrase being repeated (eg: "I don't know, Scully, how about you? about you?").  I can solve the problem by quitting the app and starting it back up but it will eventually screw up again.
I'm using a MacBook running OS 10.6.8 with a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.

The first thing that we need to know are the properties of what you are putting on the Timeline. What works in another software does not necessarily work in Premiere Elements. Each program has its own supported formats.
    a. What is the file extension for this file? .MOV or .MP4?
    b. Does the iPad describe it as 1080p or 720p?
    c. If you open Premiere Elements 12 and go to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General, what do you see for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio, even if those field appear to be grayed out.
Two immediate troubleshooting avenues are going to be in the direction of...
    a. Project settings not set up to match the properties of the source from the iPad. Then we would start a new project and set the project setting manually before importing your video. Details for manually setting the project preset are in the following.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
    b. The iPad video being recorded with a variable frame rate instead of a constant one...the remedy then would probably be to take your video in a program like HandBrake to change the variable to a constant frame rate. And after that, import the corrected video into the Premiere Elements project which has the correct project preset (preferably set manual to assure the correct result).
Please see what you can put together in the way of video details, and we will sort this out.
    Thanks.

  • Audio (and some video) dropping out export

I've created an project with short video/audio clips sampled to produce "music". It plays OK in FCPX, but when I export it (H.264, 720p, Apple Devices, 44.1) as an MP4, some of the audio (and some video) drops out. That is, it does not show up in the exported (aka "Shared") movie file.
There are about 7-8 things (tracks) going on at once, maximum.
Any ideas what to do to fix this?
    Thanks!

  • GeForce2 MX - MS Starforce 818 S Video - TV Out not working ?

    Hi,
I'm using MSI GeForce2 MX Nvidia MS Starforce 818 which have an S-Video video out port in it. A few while back, I try to use this TV Out port for the first time with the S Video cable given upon purchase. Since I have no idea how to use this TV Out port before, I was skimming through everything, and found out that I can use it by clicking on the "Display" properties of windows, go to the "Settings" tabs, and I can choose the display that I want to use, whether a regular monitor I'm using, or to the tv when the S-Video TV Out cable is plugged in. Yesterday I try to do the same thing, and suddenly on the "Display" properties, on the settings tabs, I can't choose where do I want the display to be, and plugging in the S-Video cable only cause the monitor to blank out.
I haven't tried uninstalling the video card, since I can't find the cd that comes with it when I bought the video card about 4 years ago.. and I can't seem to find the drivers on the net as well. I'm using win xp sp 2.
Anyone know how can I use the TV Out port aside from the "Settings" tabs of the "Display" properties of windows ? I'm lost right now, and dunno what is wrong.
Sorry if my english is hard to understand, do let me know if there's anything u can't understand.
    Thanks,
    Djoni

Now that Nview detects my TV I was hoping that maybe I could select the clone options and use the dual monitor option of my card. Nope, Nview detects the monitor and the tv but all the other options are greyed out. So I cannot use anything else than Standard (Dual View).
Ok. I think i have same problem. I have solved it by connecting my analog monitor to to DVI output with DVI to analog conector that came with the vga card. And it worked. Only now i have another problem. Vga card can't recognize my tv as PAL/G but as M/NTSC. Everytime i reboot my computer it goes back to M/NTSC. I am using detonator drivers 40.72 and with original MSI drivers it worked OK.

  • Mac mini mid 2011 video blinking out too

As the 2012 mac mini, my mac mini mid 2011 with the 3000 graphics chipset, has video blinking out every hour for about a second, since I upgraded from an ancient cinema display (1600x1040) to a DELL U2713HM 2560x1440 pixels. The old display blinked very rarely too, which I thought to be dips in the grid. The new display blacks out every hour for 1-2 seconds. And when the machine is heavily loaded (xcode indexing 500 files): about every minute.
It is becoming really acute since I updated to OS X 10.8.5 (12F37), and  even WORSE and UNWORKABLE: when the video now blinks the monitor enters power save mode, and I need to switch off and on the monitor to wake up video...

I connected the display via a mini-displayport to displayport cable (the DELL has a displayport port too), but I don't think that is relevant. I don't have that ridiculously overpriced dual-link DVI converter.
Filed a bug at Apple, submitted some system reports when the prob occurred. I hope they will release a firmware fix, or I'll take the mini back to the shop.

  • If a power cord shorts out, can it affect my Macbook Pro?

I have my 2009 macbook pro 13" plugged in, then suddenly it turns itself off and needs to be restarted using the power button, and when it shuts down, the power cord seems to 'die' too. I think the power cord might be shorting out. Could this be? Could it possibly be a completely unrelated occurrence, where the cord dies and the computer separately spontaneously shuts off (perhaps the battery is dying)? No warning pops up or anything, there is just a tiny 'pop' sound and the screen goes black. I must then use the power button to turn it back on. When I turn the computer back on, the clock is set back to some time in 2000 and wifi is knocked out. But if I put the computer in sleep mode, close the lid, then open it, it reconnects to airport with no problem, and sometimes the light on the power cord will turn back on. I haven't been able to find a similar issue anywhere.
Some more background: the computer, when turned on and for example using Google Chrome and TextEdit, and these 2 applications only, the battery power quickly deteriorates. In addition, whereas the battery used to deteriorate down to the single digit percentages, it now tends to die at about anywhere from 10-30% battery life reading. This is where I am getting the idea my battery may be going bad. This is my 3rd or 4th power cord in 5 years.

This cord has not been wrapped or stored in damaging ways, I always circle it up, never use the little ears to wind the thinner cord on the A/C adaptor block because this has been shown to have problems, plus the cord gets all kinked up. I am as delicate as possible with my cords now because my previous ones have been damaged from wrapping/other technical issues (the first, which came with my Mac in '09, was the old 't' style and frayed from factory defect, the second stopped working after about 2 years so I was told it was probably due to age, the third stopped working spontaneously back in July of this year due to unknown causes, and this newly purchased one has been treated as described above, very delicately, wrapped in loose circles and placed in a padded carrying case). The cord was plugged into a surge protector when the issue occurred, at the home of a friend (not in my own home), when the issue began to occur.
Apple charges $80 for a subpar product that has time and time again failed for various and differing reasons, but they don't change anything because it makes them money when you have to keep buying new power supply cords every 6 months to a year or shorter. I have never had this particular problem where the cord overheats and shuts down my computer. I purchase from Best Buy because I can't afford to wait for 6 weeks while Apple ships new product, nor can I afford to pay extra for shipping. The nearest Apple store is an hour from my house, otherwise I'd go straight there and have my computer and cord diagnosed.
I am pretty sure the computer battery itself is dying, as well, as the unit is 5 years old.
I found it strange that no one else I could find had ever documented this same problem occurring.
Thanks for your time and advice.

  • Transferring from the camcorder using S-Video IN/OUT port possible?

My DV port on my Panasonic NV-GS70 camcorder broke and thus I can't use the firewire cable anymore to transfer video on my Mac.
Repairing the port doesn't seems a viable inexpensive option. (Based on what I read on the Web.)
Now, the camcorder also has a S-Video IN/OUT port.
    My questions:
    - Is it actually possible to use this port to transfer video to a MAC?
    - If so, what kind of cable do I need?
I read about USB A/V capture device (such as this one: http://www.pinecomputer.com/dduusb20veca.html) but didn't manage to find one specifically for MAC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

The Eyetv Hybrid from El Gato will do this, and it will export to old versions of iMovie. However, I did a test on analog 8mm passed through an 8mm digital 8.
I tried both dv and s-video. Unfortunately the s-video would only import in black and white. I suspect this was due to the analog conversion, but I did not go back and test running digital dv through the s-video.
Of course, the same test through FireWire in dv was in full color. Just take that as a datapoint. It could just be my camera.
In your case, I would recommend that you monitor eBay and pick up a used dv camcorder.

What is required to use the video composite out on the iPhone 4   The left and right audio works ok

Please not that the iPhone uses mono channel for internal speakers, the other path that you see is not the speaker per say. It is the phone microphone. Try using headphones, you will hear both channels. If the problem still persists when using headphones, check your sound balancing in the settings. Go to setting-general-accessibility scroll down and check the slide under mono audio. It should be put at the centre for you to hear both channels ON YOUR HEADPHONES

  • Video Cuts out After 20 Minutes

With my iPod video coming soon I am preparing movies to put onto my iPod. I convert DVDs into MPEG1s, then MPEG1s into uncompressed AVIs because QT can take audio and video from AVIs. My final uncompressed AVI is perfect, audio and video all the way through. Now, when I convert this AVI to an iPod format movie (320x240), a QT movie (.mov), or a MPEG4 (I have tried all three), it seems to work fine, no errors or anything. Then when I play the result, the audio goes all the way through, but the video cuts out to a white screen after 20 minutes. Is this fixable or do I have to wait for a QT update? By the way, the movie is 90-100 minutes long.

You are converting a DVD (MPEG-2 format) to MPEG-1 format and then to .avi file. This new (now compressed twice) file is compressed again (conversion to .mov).
Too many steps and way too much re-compression.
You should search for some software that will export from MPEG-2 to the iPod settings.
The white screen issue is probably caused by broken time codes (the MPEG-1 file, I suspect).
I've seen new software releases designed for iPod video export (both Mac and Windows versions). Maybe you should try a few of them.
Can the iPod battery hold out long enough to play 100 minutes of video?

  • Photo Booth Audio and Video are out of sync?

Hi. So there is this glitch that when I take videos on Photo Booth the audio and video are out of sync. This started after I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and since I use Photo Booth a lot, I really do care. Is there anyway that I can fix this until Apple fixes this bug? Thanks.
Extra Info: The first video I took was not out of sync, but after that they got more and more out of sync.

I've read all the forums. It's a big problem for most Photobooth users, Apple acknowledges it, but does not yet have a fix.
The best solution I have come up with is to dump Photobooth (I know - it was a great program, wasn't it? But so was Hypercard) and use Quicktime to make videos. You'll have to spend a little more work savings or exporting, but at least Quicktime is free.
Just open Quicktime Player and under the File menu you'll see "Record New Movie."
    The downward slide continues...
