Video size issues/slow performance after update to CC 2014
Hello everyone,
I'm not an editor by trade, so please bear with me here. I've spent the last few days searching around for an answer and haven't been able to come up with much.
I'm on a late 2011 Macbook Pro, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b).
I spent a month cutting my first little experimental feature which the assistant editor set up for me (and who is currently away).
My computer isn't rocket fast, but I was able to complete the first few passes on Premiere CC (7.2.2?) with few major issues.
About a week ago, I upgraded to Premiere CC 2014 8.0.
I immediately noticed that my footage went from this:
To this:
(The specifics of the footage:
As you might be able to tell, we shot very old school VHS to help sell the 90's setting. It was a nightmare to find the best way to export it all. I'm still not sure if we did this entirely properly -- and hopefully it's not the cause of these issues. Also, I know VHS is only SD -- we chose to import at the utmost quality, i.e. 1920x1440 and ProRes 422, because more of the image detail was present in low-light.)
I found that I had to select all the clips in each timeline, right click, and select the 'Set to Frame Size' to have the video full frame once again. Then I had to render everything.
As I tried to resume my edit, the performance was much slower. Playback is a nightmare. I get the beach ball of death constantly. It would take several minutes to save the project. And it started to crash about once an hour on top of everything.
But I continued to work for the last eight days, hoping that I'd be able to rectify this somehow.
I cleared the cache with no luck.
I read that I could uncheck 'Composite in Linear Color' to make it faster, but that wasn't an issue in the last build.
My playback and paused resolution is 1/4.
I read that I should update my OS to OS X Mavericks, but that keeps crashing too! Haha.
I understand that my system isn't the best, but I just want my project to perform as well as it did on Premiere CC before the update.
I just spoke to an Adobe tech who basically told me that there wasn't a solution here besides reverting back to Premiere CC from CC 2014 -- or buying a new Macbook.
But there has to be a way that I can get the same performance that I did before the upgrade, right? I have a feeling something happened to how CC 2014 is using the existing footage.
(Also, I noticed that clips where I increased the zoom, i.e. 100% to 110%, were back at their original size. And instead of saying 100%, it was now saying 300%. I'm assuming this is because of the 'Set to Frame Size' setting, but this wasn't the case on Premiere CC.)
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do here?
Here's my sequence settings on CC 2014:
And on CC:
For some reason, portions of this window are grayed out, and not in CC 2014. Not sure if this has anything to do with the issue.
Thanks a ton in advance everyone! I really can't afford to lose 8 days worth of work, so any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!
I'll be more than happy to provide additional info.
I'm really looking to find out, definitively, if my only two options are: a) go back to Premiere CC and lose my recent work, or b) buy a new laptop, which I can't afford.
(As a side question, is there any way I can transfer my recent work from CC 2014 to CC? I understand it's not backwards-compatible, but there has to be at least a partial solution.)
Best,
Jon
Thanks for the quick response!
So just this right (to DV):
I scrubbed through really quick, seems like it just may have worked.

Yoga Tab 2 8 inch slow performance after update
Hello everyone!
I recently bought a Yoga tablet 2 8 inch (Wifi only). By default, it was running smoothly, and the performance was overall solid, both on the launcher (Lenovo's and Google Now Launcher) and in apps.
However, after two updates (The first one was around 350MB and the second one 79MB), some aspects of the software got much slower.
For instance, when running on the stock Lenovo launcher, the transitions between the pages of apps are much slower. Even weirder, they are slower in landscape mode than in portrait mode! When running in portrait mode, the stock launcher is about as fast as it was before the updates.
The Google Now launcher, which was running fine before, is now running really slow both in portrait and landscape modes.
When it comes to apps, Gmail runs pretty smoothly while Chrome also seems to be capped at 30 fps. Opera, which I downloaded from the Play Store, seems smooth enough. YouTube is smooth when playing a video but choppy when navigating.
The settings of the tablet (display, networks...) is silky smooth as it should, while Kingston Office (provided by Lenovo) is struggling and laggy.
To sum up, some of the on board apps and the launchers seem to have taken a massive performance hit (while oddly enough some aspects of the software are smooth, like the settings), while third party apps downloaded from the store are, for the most part, unaffected, except for launchers (Granny Smith runs at 60 fps) (The performance on Nova Launcher is as poor as on Google Now Launcher)
I don't see any app running in the background (I even disabled some of them, like Security HD), and Power mangement tools are off.
The version of Android I am running on is 4.4.2, build : YOGA Tablet2-830F_S000195_150422. I also did a software reset through the settings, but the performance issue remains.
Sorry about this long description, but it looks like a software issue and any help is welcome, because other than that I really like this tablet. If you need more information, do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you!
VincentHello Ronnie_S!
Yes I am running on the update that was released yesterday, however I noticed a performance drop on the first update I got (the 350MB one), so my performances were already hit before that latest update. So I can't tell you what effect the update released yesterday could have on your specific device. -
Slow performance after iOS 7.1 upgrade, please help.
My kids have iPad Airs. One of them has a serious slow down in performance after upgrading to iOS 7.1. The others work fine. It is so slow that it is unusable. When you type a single character, it takes several seconds to show up on the screen. I'm rebooted and did a reset in Settings. Any other ideas? Please help.
I called Apple Support (800-275-2273) and they also recommended a reset: "Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears".
It came to a screen with a USB cable and arrow to iTunes logo. I had to connect to my PC and lanuch iTunes. iTunes recognized the iPad in restore mode. My only option per Apple Support was to restore to factory defaults. It appears all data is lost.
The Apple Support person would not admit that this is a known issue with iOS 7.1 even though you can go online and see that may people have slow performance after upgrading to iOS 7.1. -
Issues not resolved after updating to latest SP BO 4.0
Issues not resolved after updates to latest SP
We initially installed BO 4.0 with SP4 FP3. After that updated the installation to SP6, SP7, SP8, SP9 and SP9 patch3. We skipped SP5 as it had no issues effecting the way we work.
Now we discovered that most of the important issues for development like being able to modify merged dimensions by adding a dimension are not resolved, despite the updates which would have fixed the issue.
Any ideas?
Is it possible to install SP5 afterwards and then update again to the new SP10?You don't need to install SP5. Latest SP you have installed, will have all the fixes of SP5.
You cannot install SP5 after installing SP9. There is no need to install aslo. -

After update to CC 2014, Ps can't pass edited image to Lr
As title says, after update to CC 2014 and uninstalling old version I can't get a workflow I used to get. After opening image in Ps from Lr and saving it gives an error:
Is there any easy way to fix this?
If not, how can I reinstall Ps and Lr without losing all my edits and presets in Lr?Ok.. So now after updating CC, Ps CC 2014 and Lr I can't even pass image to Ps from Lr. When I choose "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014", Ps just opens, but no image is loaded. Can I get some support on this problem?

Slow Performance after Leopard 10.5.2. Update
After updating to Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2, I have encountered performance issues that I suspect are related to my Creative Suite applications.
I find that after a reboot, my system performs pretty well, but over time (a day or two) it starts to slow down dramatically. Using Activity Monitor to look for clues, I noticed what seems an inordinate number of "MSGS SENT" by several applications, e.g.:
Photoshop CS3 is running in the background with a document open, and it's sending about 100 Msgs per second.
Illustrator CS3 is running in te background with no document open, and it's sending about 500 Msgs per second
Unfortunately, I did not observe these numbers prior to updating to 10.5.2. But I have observed, that quitting these applications seems to restore system performance to an acceptable level.I think it may have something to do with Photoshop's event
handling. That is, it is polling for input even though you
have no file open. I'll maybe take a look at this later if
I have time. -

I made yesterday an experiment, removed the 11th version of Flash Player Plugin & ActiveX, and installed from the archive the 10th version of plugin + 11th activex and then everything worked like it supposed to be - fine. But i have failed to install 10th version of ActiveX, i'ts just telling me that cannot be installed, some kind of error.
P.S. I think i've fixed my issues, i tried to install again from the Adobe Flash Player archive version 10.3.183.18 ActiveX & Plugin and i did it.Now .flv are running like 2 days ago - without any problems.
Maybe the thing is that my configuration is slow for the new version of the player,my CPU isn't multicore, but still it is not bad for the Adobe programmers to optimize the new version better for slower pc's.
Cheers!

Is it my imagination, or has there been a performance hit after update 1? After heavy use, I've had to restart eclipse in order to speed things up, which seems to help for a short time, but eventually the editor slows down again, particularly on large CFC files with a mix of CF and HTML code. Sometimes I have to wait a couple seconds after each editor change before I can do anything, which is problematic when you're trying to move quickly. That's when I just restart and say F###! Everytime this happens, the little tractor track progress icon moves. Not sure what it's doing since it goes away too quick for me to click on it. Could it have something to do with syntax highlighting? I notice that the screen flickers a lot after each editor change, which is also annoying.
I can't wait until CFB becomes a stable and fast because it's DEFINITELY NOT!I think I've resolved my performance issues by increasing the memory size of eclipse... I modified the eclipse.ini file from:
-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.201.R35x_v20090715.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.0.200.v20090519
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
-vmargs
-Xms40m
-Xmx256m
to:
-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.201.R35x_v20090715.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.0.200.v20090519
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
-vmargs
-Xms128m
-Xmx512m
(changed: -Xms40m to -Xms128m and -Xmx256m to -Xmx512m)
So far the performance has been acceptable. I've been using these settings for about a week or so, and so far I haven't had any serious performance issues. -
Slow performance after installation of new OS-X
I don't know if anyone else has been experiencing the same problem as me, but it seemed to occur after I installed the new OS-X.
My MacBook Pro has gone stremely slow and it seems to be related to MAIL. I thought that the standard MAIL program that comes with MAC was the problem, so I installed Postbox and that seemed to work for a while (1 day or 2) and then it was the same. It's not just email programs that are slow, but all programs.
Click and wait seconds (10, 20, 30 sec) just for a program to open. Moving between files is so slow. I feel like I'm using Windows again.
I'm no expert, but when I look at MEMORY usage, out of 4GB I'm using 3.8GB. My Virtual Memory is 4.76GB. See screen shot below.
I would apprecaite if anyone can help me resolve what the problem is.
Thanks
Richard GiulianoFirst, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
Big Trouble in all Video-Applications after updating to CC 2014
After updating my CC to CC (2014), the new Video-Applications (Pl,Pr,Sg,Me) doesn't work.
The other apps (Ps,Ai...) are ok. Ae starts, but it runs very faulty.

Did you really tested this software, before you published it?!

Mac Mini 2011 slow down after updating to Yosemite
Hi all!
After updating my Mac Mini (half 2011) from Mavericks to Yosemite, it became extremely slow and unresponsive. I have to wait a lot of time for apps to open and commands, like clicking a button, to be executed executed. File Vault, that I read is a common cause of slow down, is NOT enabled.
What should I do? In these cases, for my Windows PC, I insert the OS DVD and format: what's the equivalent operation for a Mac?
Thank you in advance for your help!K1kk0z90 wrote:
