Video sometimes jumps/skips when watching DVR program
I've noticed this weird issue lately. Sometimes when I'm watching a recorded show, the picture kind of jumps. It's not like pixelation or audio dropout, but it won't be smooth. It only happens every now and then. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I would like to know if there is a cure for it.
Does it happen only on recorded programs or have you noticed if it happens during live programming too?
It could be a lot of differnt things, bad signal, problem with the show, problem with the cables, problem with the hard drive, etc.
Depending on how severe it is and how often it happens it may or may not even be an issue. With digital picture, the occasional blip, or tiling, or pause would be equivalent to getting snow on the old cable systems. (sun spots ). and if we are talking about something that lasts a second and happens once or twice a month type thing, I'd say that its nothing to worry about and think of that as a small glitch in the signal.
Now if this is something that happens frequently and lasts more than a second or so, then I'd troubleshoot more. If it is only on recorded shows, then I would think of possibly a bad sector on the hard drive or maybe the access to the HD is having issues. If on both recorded and live programming, I'd look at the cable connection on the back of the STB or at the splitters, etc.
But we would need a little more info.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.

Ipod 3rd gen video jumps/skips when there is horizontal movement on screen
my ipod experiences significant jumps/pauses in the video if the movement on the screen is horizontal-example: people walikng left to right on sreen. the more movement, the worse it jumps. it eventually catches up to real time when movement is standing still. in one particular instance, people are walking left to right and the camera is panning to keep up with them and the pause/ skips are terrible. i tried the update and it seems worse now. audio nevers skips during playback, just video. the tv ad running currently shows no skipping and they have people moving all over the place. any ideas?
Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore via iTunes. For recovery mode:

I tried to play back in iphoto. It is a mp4 file.
What is a Kodak Bloggie? Do you have a model number, specs, etc?

Upgraded DVR - cannot watch DVR'd programs on another STB/TV in the house.
Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded my DVR to 500 Gb and no complaints. I can watch programs on the new DVR without issue. Our STB in another room does not seem to allow us to watch DVR programs when it used to with the old DVR. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you !

Do you have the multi-room service on the new DVR? When I replaced my old multi-room DVR with a new DVR the multi-room service did not automatically transfer, I had to contact Verizon to get it switched.
On the DVR, if you go into the Menu and:
Customer Support ==> Self Diagnostics
Under Packages does it show MRDVR Ready? If not I am pretty sure you do not have the multi-room support activated on that DVR.
Also, under DVR in the main Menu on the DVR, there is an option called Fix Multi-Room DVR; have you run that? If not I suggest you do so.
And one last thing, also under DVR, then Settings, is an option fopr Multi-Room DVR Settings. If you have older QIP2500 P1 or P2 model STBs, you need to run this dialog for them to have access to the DVR.
Beyond the above, I am for now out of ideas....

When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video. This happens randomly and does not seem to be a problem with the videos as they run fine. what is going on?
Several times every day YouTube shuts down some of their servers to update stuff. Be patient if YouTube is slow, stuck or mangled. Transmissions from YouTube to your computer are done in multiple tiny packets of data and flash at a time. That's why sometimes you may get any of these scenarios: bits and pieces of text/thumbnails in weird places; sluggish loading/buffering; the spinning circle going on forever; or the player being blank. This problem could fix itself within a few hours or by the next day.
If your YouTube continues to behave slow, stuck or strange, it's very possible that your directories of "temporary internet files" and RAM (sometimes known as "cache") are close to the maximum and just cannot take anymore, the end result being any of the above scenarios or videos that: A) come to a complete freeze; B) start/stop/start/stop in a choppy way; or C) never even make it onto your screen.
"Temporary internet files" are tiny bits of webpages that get permanently put on your hard-drive. They will remain forever on your computer, gradually plugging it up like hair stuck in a sink drain, until you finally get rid of them once and for all. Thus, exit out of YouTube, then clear your "cache" of all its "temporary internet files", "cookies" and "history". It is best if you shutdown and reboot afterwards. You'll be amazed at how "fresh" and "new" your YouTube will be. -
I have a iPhone 4S and when watching videos on the internet sound cuts out as the video is playing. The rest of the video plays with no sound. Sometimes when I pause It and play again sound comes back but not all the time. can anyone help?
The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check. -

Kernel Panic when watching videos (and other random times)?
Hi all,
I've been having a lot of trouble with kernel panics and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for fixing this. I'm aware of the Airport issue mentioned on these forums (and have tried the kext fix for that without any luck). I have KPs when watching 4+ minute long videos on Youtube (have no issue using iMovie for longer videos or watching videos from my own harddrive), sometimes when the screensaver is on or shortly after the computer goes unidle, and sometimes for no apparent reason. I've already had 2-3 KPs in the past 4 hours. This is my first Mac and not at all what I was expecting.
Sometimes the screen will flicker rapidly, other times I will get a black screen, pink screen, or the screen will "glitch" and move halfway to the left (right is now on the left and left on the right). I can sometimes delay the crash if I pause the video (the screen starts to twitch or have "lightning" flashes across parts of it) but it will eventually crash anyway.
I usually use Firefox but have had the same crash in Safari so it's not browser-related as far as I can tell.
Things I have tried (none helped):
Rebooting in safe mode to scan and repair file directories
Resetting the PRAM
Deleting application preferences
Checked and repaired permissions
Checked and repaired hard drive
Calling tech support, which had me do all the above again and unselect the "put hard discs to sleep" option
Reinstalled Lion
Replaced the Kext for the Airport Driver (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15780717#15780717)
Things I can't do (currently) to fix this:
Connect directly to the Internet via an Ethernet cable (the Internet portal is wi-fi only).
I would be happy to downgrade (except if more stable it'd be more of a upgrade at this point ) to Snow Leopard if that is an option, but am not sure how to go about doing that (I don't have a disc for it). Happy to supply any further information needed...
The latest KP (I don't really understand how to read these yet to determine the cause of the crash) -

Can you lock touch screen when watching videos!??
Can you lock the screen so it doesn't become a touch screen when watching videos!??
Just got new ipod (7th gen) and this driving me crazy that I think I'm going to continue to use my older one unless there is a solution out there. I watch tv shows while commuting and while walking here or there I have to 'palm' the ipod or walk with it at my side, and the problem is that since the touch screen is sooooo sensitive I keep fwding/rewinding/swiping the screen to something else, and then to get back to that part in the video is a pain because unlike the older ipod you can just fwd a few secs, this one jumps minutes because it's so sensitive. PLEASE tell me there's a way to lock it from accidently touching it!No - there is no such switch on the iPad - the switches control volume, muting, screen rotation, and the home button itself.
You could place it behind a screen of some sort so touching the outer screen won't affect the iPad screen - I've seen ads for 'presentation kiosk' type devices for the iPad that allow this, although I'm not sure how practical they would be in the backseat of a car. -
I get this weird judder/stutter when watching live sports. It only happens about 3-5 times a live game. I have done everything under the sun to fix this issue. Cannot figure out why it does it. It almost looks like the broadcast buffers for a split second or the signal drops. Movies, TV shows, video games, blu rays, 3D all look perfect. Here is my troubleshooting list:
-Exchanged TV (Samsung 240hz 3D LED TV)
-New coax cables ran through the house.
-Adjusted every setting on the STB
-Adjusted every setting on the TV
-Tried new splitters
-New HDMI cables
-Switched the cable box with the one upstairs.
-Tried every HDMI port
-Tried Component cables.
If I plug directly into the TV with the coax cabe PROBLEM SOLVED. No judder/stutter. Once I go back into the STB the problem starts again. Also if I rewind the DVR and playback the broadcast the judder/stutter is also gone.
Please help before I pull whats left of my hair out! Please go to your profile page for the forum by clicking on your name, and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Private Support Cases".
There you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. Video Skips When Moving Around
If i get up and move with my laptop the Video (normal .avi House episode) skips, almost like a CD in a car when you hit a bump. It's mostly when i put the laptop down on a chair/desk/lap. Just wondering what this is all about?
Another, different problem. When watching any video in QT it's choppy all time. Unwatchable choppy. I have to watch in VLC (not a big deal, but a little annoying)
Anyone have any QT upgrades I should download to make this not happen?
Message was edited by: cph2133Not sure I understand what you are describing, but you may be engaging the Exposé feature. In ANY app, if you use Exposé, the system will expose all of your currently opened windows by making them smaller, so that could be what you mean by "move back." You then click on the window you want to use; it's meant to be an easy way to find and switch between windows, if you have a lot of windows open at the same time.
You may be activating it by squeezing your mouse, if you use a Mighty Mouse. Go into System Preferences Mouse pane. You should see the mouse diagram with lines going to both sides of the mouse. That is "squeeze" setting. If it is set to +Exposé - All Windows+, change it to OFF.
Note: You can also engage Exposé using the F9 key, or the special key with the little rectangles (depending on how your keyboard's F-keys are set). -
Youtube html5 video stops loading at one point when watching video with 720p
when i change 360p to 720p its pretty often when Dube stops loading video, in the middle or near the end, its random, but i notice it when video stops playing like when u pause it & sometimes i need to reload page 2-4times before i can finish watching, & sometimes the 3th or 4th time is not reloading its closing Dube & reopening it & then from history selecting that video again
1. do a lot of people have that issue?
2. do i half to W8 until HTM5 creators fix the issue?
3. or can it be fixed by user who is not advanced user?
4. if yes then how it can be fixed?
5. or is it Firefox Problem or bug?''guigs2 [[#answer-704713|said]]''
