Video Sorting

On my iPod Touch I have 14 episodes of the same TV Show from a bunch of seasons. When I click on the TV Show, I get all of my choices but they are in alphabetical order instead of by season. Is there a setting i can change or something to order the episodes correctly? This gets pretty annoying.

I don't know about the 1G iPod Touch firmware, but I have a 64GB iPod Touch and I'm having similar problems with sorting. If you tag videos correctly, by putting in episode numbers, season numbers, titles, etc., things aren't exactly sorted alphabetically. The iPod groups all episodes from a show together, instead of breaking them out by season. Then it sorts them by episode number. When the episode number matches another, it breaks the tie using the episode title. So, if you have several seasons together, it groups all the first episodes together, then the second episodes of each season, etc.
I find it pretty annoying too. Please go to Apple's feedback page at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and ask them to fix this problem.

  • IOS 6.x alphabetical video sorting PROBLEM

    Apple,
Please fix the alphabetical sort order of tv shows within the videos application in ios 6.x.
Apparently tv shows bought from itunes store will sort by episode but manually added videos do not.
This should be a relatively simple fix considering it worked correctly in ios 5...
I don't know how you guys managed to screw it up AGAIN in ios 6...
Just thought you could include this in your 6.1.2 update which will hopefully patch the exchange bug and lockscreen passcode bypass exploit.
You might as well kill two birds with one stone, in other words, fix this stupid video sort order problem and patch your os with ONE, not multiple, OTA upda
You advertise your products as user friendly and whatnot but can't even get something as simple as logically ordering tv shows in order of episode right?
Seriously Apple, get your stuff together and fix the alphabetical sort ordering of tv shows.

  • ITunes Video Sorting Issue

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and am in the process of moving all of my music and videos from my PC to an external hard drive that I purchased. When I import some of the video into iTunes they are completely out of order.
The videos in question are TV Shows purchased directly from the iTunes Store. Most of the videos are not effected, however some are and I can't seem to figure out how to resolve it.
For example, I have the first 3 seasons of Lost. The first 2 seasons, sort fine. Looking at Season 3, the sort order is completely messed up even though the shows are tagged correctly (as they should be because I purchased them from iTunes). Yet, they are sorted like this: Episodes 1,3,2 etc.
This is also the case for Prison Break Seasons 1 and 2 and South Park Season 10.
Anyone that can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I would like to add that these same files sort just fine on my PC with iTunes 7, the Mac has the newly released 7.1

    Hi Paul,
I had a similar problem about a month ago with some files I had tagged with incorrect episode numbers. (in the Track field under Info) With no "of ##" value, tagging an incorrect episode number and correcting resulting in my fix.
    Try this...
Make sure you have backup copies of the entire season's videos (if possible) in a folder that is NOT in your iTunes library folder. If you are short on hard drive space, find the actual files in the iTunes library folder and move them into a new folder on the Desktop.
Once you've copied these, go back into iTunes, and under Preferences -> Advanced -> General, uncheck the option that says "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library".
Remember - at this point you have backup copies of the videos, safe in a folder on the Desktop... from the iTunes window, delete all of the videos for that particular season from the library. (again, let me re-emphasize the importance of backing up these video files)
At this point, if the original files are still in the iTunes Library folder (if you made copies of the files), iTunes will ask whether you wish to move the files to the Trash - click "Yes". If you simply moved the originals out of the iTunes Library folder and into a new folder, this option shouldn't appear - you are now just removing the library references to the files.
Now, re-drag the backup files into the iTunes library window, where it should process them and add them to its library. If all is successful, the sort order should be restored. (provided that the correct Track number was populated into the ID3 tag)
If so, create a folder in <user> -> Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Library (something like that... I can't remember the actual path offhand, am at work at the moment away from my Mac) and copy the formerly-backup files here. iTunes should recognize the change in directory; use Apple-I to "Get Info" and check the bottom of the Summary tab for the file's path, it should be associating the video file with the new directory.
Restore all of your original options ("Copy files to iTunes Music Folder...") as they were for future imports, and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps... again, I am at work at the moment, and am recreating my problem/remedy in my head step by step.

  • Video sort order differs in list/preview

I have a few Video Podcasts and Music Videos in my Videos Playlist. I have arranged the order for the Podcasts in wich they show up by dragging them into the order I like to have them in using the "list" view. The first column is selected. However, when I switch to the (very nice) "Preview" view the list gets sorted on what appears to be the release date. Am I overlooking something or is it time for a little feedback to Apple?

    Hi,
There is no way to order the contexts in universe list view mode.
If you want to have a specific order I suggest that you prefix all contexts by a number such as "1 - context name1", "2 - context name2", etc.

  • Video sorting question

TV episodes that I have purchased through the iTunes Store are nicely organized on my iPod touch 16GB with just one album cover in the main video screen that lists how many South Park/Scrubs/etc episodes of each show I have, and when you click it, it will slide over to a sub-category listing of all the individual episodes for whatever series you select.
My problem is that I also have episodes of other shows that I have ripped from my own DVD's that all show up in the main video window, instead of being filed under a separate list for each show. Is there some sorting voodoo I can work to get all of these episodes to file neatly into their own sub-categories, or do I have to just live with having a dozen episodes of Venture Brothers sitting in the main video list while the rest of my shows episodes are accessible in a different menu?

In ITunes, for each video, Get Info and go to the Video tab. Under Video Kind, select TV Show and fill in the info. Nice way to group videos together.

  • Video sorting on ipad IOS7?

Is there a way to trigger sorting of videos in ios7 on the latest iPad?
It was working fine on IOS6, but as soon as I updated, the TV shows just sort by episode title, not by episode number.
I have the tracks numbered correctly on the Info tab and the episode IDs and Numbers on the Video tab in iTunes, but once they get copied over to the iPad, they just sort by episode title.
When I connect to my shared iTunes library, everything is sorted correctly by episode number. This issue is only for video files copied onto the iPad.

even tried to do the thing where do get info then options and change movie type but again there is only movies and music videos : /

  • Ipod touch 4 video sorting

I have just upgraded to the ipod touch 4 and find most of my tv shows in the 'unknown' category. They are sorted by name in itunes but when synced to my ipod I have to click on 'unknown' in video. Is there a setting on my ipod I need to adjust?

It's a known issue yet Apple have not released a fix.

  • Music Video Sorting

I just got an 80GB Classic and I found one thing annoying; the way the music videos are sorted. On my 5th Gen they were sorted by artist which I like, but here they are all together with no sorting at all.
Is there a way to fix this?

Also, do you know if there is a way to sort by their production date, or the date they were added to the library?
I am trying to find a way to sort podcasts by their air dates, with the most recent LAST on the list, so when I listen to them, they play back in the order they went to air.
    Is this feasable?

  • YouTube Subscription Videos Sort Order

After applying iOS 4.3 to my Apple TV, my YouTube subscription videos are shown in a seemly random order. Before iOS 4.3 they were sorted by descending date. This made locating and watching new videos easy. This new "order" makes this difficult, if not impossible, for YouTube publishers with a large number of videos.
I am extremely disappointed with this change.

I'd like to echo the feelings in this thread. Without any way to show the newest videos the subscription feature is next to useless.
I'm hoping that there is toggle squirrelled to allow for subscription sorting by newest, most viewed, etc. Otherwise I have no idea why this would (intentionally) change.

  • TV Show Video sorting on iPad

    Hi,
When importing video as TV Shows from my iTunes onto my iPad. The video shows in iTunes as being sorted by TV Show then season. But for some reason on my iPad it gets sorted by season only.
    So for example:
If I have Season 1 - Episode 1 of Dexter then Season 1 - Episode 1 of Lost
All appears fine in iTunes, but on my iPad.
There is the title art for Dexter then season 1 underneath, but in there is also the episode for Lost.
Any ideas on how to fix this or what to change in the metdata to avoid this issue.
As it seems to work with purchased videos from the iTunes store but ones imported from my computer have this problem.

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.

is there anyway to move music videos that were put in "movies" to the "music videos"
    thank you

While the IPOD is connected, find your video file, I use recently Added to find files, Right click the file, select "Get Info" then "Options", see the box "Video Kind", click the drop down box and select music video. The video will now show up in Music Videos, Under "All".

  • IPhone 5 video sort?

So the problem is basically that my TV episodes are sorting alphabetically instead of by episode number. I had an iPhone 3GS and this was not at all a problem, they sorted by episode as I wanted. Then when I got my iPhone 5 and added more television shows to my phone it started sorting alphabetically. So basically, as soon as I got the new phone it started doing this. The episodes are all set as TV shows, they all have episode numbers attached, I have made all of the info on them the same except for the episode number, id and the season number. The episodes are sorted by episode number in my itunes as well, but when I sync it it will not sort by anything but alphabetically. Help please!

  • How can i find videos sorted by resolution?

    Hi,
I am trying to find videos in a certain resolution, eg. HD, 1028p, 720p, DVD, 640x480
Is there a program, a finder script or anything else which could help we with that?
    Thanks in advace –

If the device is not connected to WiFi, you can't find it. If it is, go to your iCloud.com account on a computer or use the Find My iPhone app on any iOS device and log in and look for it.
You have to be signed in to find your own devices.
