Video Stall after 5.1 or 5.1.1 update on ATV 3

Twice I thank the posters to this forum for giving me the information to "roll back" to 5.0.2.  Twice I have upgraded and twice videos (Youtube and Netflx) stall after 1-2 minutes following the 5.1.? update.  Restarting the modem, router, and ATV does nothing.  I hope that the next update works, but I'm keeping the 5.0.2 file handy - just in case.

I am having a similar issue.
- iOS 5.1 on a 4S.
- Itunes 10.6.1
- Iphoto 9.2.3
With the 4S connected via wifi I select "Sync photos with" "selected albums..." I check one album only with four photos in it. Hit sync and the I watch the photos transfer in the top bar of itunes as it syncs. The orange status bar at the bottom goes up to show the photo data is on the 4S. I open the photo app on the 4S and the photos do not show up at all. No new album, no photos. The data appears to be there, but the 4S is not showing them.
I've tried deleted the ipod photo cache a few times and restoring. No change.

  • YouTube video stalls after a few minutes (on longer videos)

This is a recurring issue which I thought was fixed by the 2.2.1 update but it then started up again.
I have read posts on other forums with users experiencing the same thing. Some say it stops at predictable times based on the length of the video (usually anything over 4 mins).
But as I said, it seemed to get fixed when i updated, so I'm not sure what messed it up again... Restoring/re-patching it might work again but then it would only come back i guess.
Along the same lines... Youtube videos don't seem to be very searchable (across the timeline, from what has loaded so far). If i change position to an earlier point the loaded progress region jumps back to that point and occasionally the video stops working or is slow to respond. It would be great if online videos had the same ease of use and search-ability as ones on the device (other than the initial loading up).
    Thanks

    Hello Oremus Productions,
First of all, sorry for this frustrating issue. The first thing to check with OS X Mavericks or Yosemite is the permissions of your Adobe folders. Here is blog post to check out: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
The other thing I'm curious about is ProRes and if Premiere is handling it properly. Tell me, do you have Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X, iMovie, or any of the Apple video products installed? Do you have any components in your Mac HD > Library > QuickTime?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Videos stall when loading from youtube, facebook. Must stop and reload.

Videos stall after only a few seconds from FaceBook and YouTube. Must stop and reload.

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Video Dies after 30 Seconds

When i use my iPod 5g, the video stalls after 30 seconds and then resumes without audio. I have reset and restored the iPod. Nothing. Any ideas?

Do you have the 60gb ipod? Did you do the new update? If you said yes to both questions then that's the problem. There is a bug within the new apple ipod update that affects the 60gb ipods. There have been several posts about this where ipod will play 30 seconds of movie, stop, and continue without audio. The only solution is reinstalling from the cd that came with your ipod. And do not do update until it is resolved. I always hold off on updates for a while or I usually check this forum to see if there are any glitches. Good luck!

  • Video stalls during PVT....even after selfcontained QT file...arrgggh!

This is my problem......and I have done the obligatory search through all the forums and frustration is ever more present....
    I have a dual g4 1.25, running FCP 4.5 on 10.4.5 with 1.75 gigs of ram. QT 7.0
I have been editing this project with safe rt on but during that I was continously getting dropped frame notices as I was editing. When I went to PVT (Print to Video Tape) it would stall on me, in essence drop frames and this is when I clued in that I had all my capture files on one external hd....figured that this was the problem....brought all the files into an interal hd....of course then had problems with time remapping issues and FCP screwing up so I quit....renamed the internal HD the same name as the external HD and my time remapping issues went away but my dropped frames did not. I have even made a self contained qt video of it. Took me 5 hours each time. I have two sequences at 2 hour 5min and 2 hours 11 mins and these self contained sequences will not play properly. I even have dropped frames during PVT turned off and I still get the video stalling. I have had this problem for two days now. Repaired permissions....Have been trying to get FCP rescue but they have reached their bandwidth apparently so that's a no go....I have no other programs running.....just the two sequences open....nothing else....Both selfcontained qt files are on an internal drive as well..............i dont know what else to do......
    thanks for any input.....

    Dual 450/1.25 G4 1.12/1.75 gigs of ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Dont worry, you aren't alone. I've had this problem on and off for the last 2 years. My last computer a G4 400 used to drop frames and freeze on either long or complicated edits. The Dual G5 did the same straight out of the box with QT7.0.4 and Tiger. Yes I agree FCP 3 was a bit more efficient on the machine than FCP 4.5. I thought I had a corrupted sound file once and threw it away and reimported it and the problem went away - for 2 days. Then it returned.
I was thinking, is it still important to partition your main hard drive to avoid these problems? (The thing is, I've also had many years of slick operation and heavy effects with an unpartitioned hard drive.) Don't worry, I'm with you. I'm wondering if the hardware can sometimes be faulty too, esp[ecially when we are reinstalling fresh operating systems, Quicktime and software and the problem is still there.
I'm with you in this wilderness...

  • New iPod Touch 32gb stalls after starting sync, error 54, manual synce gets dumped

I just got this thing at Walmart last Sunday and its been driving me nuts all week! It's the brand new iPod Touch 32gb 4gen. When trying to sync it will start to load music then stall. Sometimes it gives error code 54, sometimes says it cant convert song, cant find song, or just stalls. If I wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour it will finally un-freeze and dump everything or say the connection has timed out. I've ran repair on iTunes from control panel, no help. Un-installed iTunes and re-installed it then tried synce, no help. I un-selected everything in the iPod summary so that it wont try to synce when I connect it and selected manual synce. Then I could sync a few songs at a time, but it still stalls after only loading a few songs on iPod. Tried dumping everything out of the ipod and start over, several times, no help. I've been 6 days, all day, every day, and half the nights getting a few songs at a time on this dam thing. I found when it stalls if I turn the iPod off to force it out of iTunes I can then restart iTunes, reconnect the iPod, manually select 15 to 20 songs and drag them to the iPod. A few times I got over a hundred to sync but usually 20 to 30 songs then it stalls. Then I have to do the whole thing over again. I had a little over 1200 songs out of the 1877 songs, 11.28gb, in my music library when the last time it stalled, it dumped everything. 4 or 5 days of manually syncing a few songs at a time, GONE. Just poof, all that work for nothing. The only thing left on it is 92 of the hundred something songs I've bought from iTunes. I'm ready to take a hammer to the dam thing and send it back to Walmart where I got it.
I'm using a Dell Studio 17 inch laptop that's about 4 yrs old running Windows 7 that I installed 2 years ago. I had a iPod nano 2gb that worked fine with this computer & iTunes untill it died last spring.
Why do you have it set up so that one little hickup and the dam thing dumps everything thats on it? I cant even stop it from starting to sync when I connect it because I need to see the settings in the summary for the iPod to change the settings, but I cant see that until I connect it, but as soon as I connect it, it try's to start the sync and stalls feezing everything.
Can anybody help me before this thing drives me completely over the edge!?
    The ColoradoHermit

I have a older Dell Optiplex desktop computer running Windows XP. I copied the iTunes  folder on my laptop to an external drive and plugged that into my desktop computer. Then connected the iPod Touch to the desktop. For some reason or other the computer thought the iPod was a camera and wanted to know which photo program to open with or for it. I never did get iTunes on my desktop computer to "see" the iPod and had to give up that idea.
When going into the My Computer or Windows Explorer - which is the one I like to use for working with my files-  when I connect the iPod to my computer in Windows Explorer it will show the iPod. Open that and it shows Internal Storage, open that and a folder with DCIM shows below it, open that and a folder with 860OKMZO on it shows below that, open that and it has the 40 or 50 photos I saved from Facebook. That's it, there isn't anything else shown in its storage. The iTunes on my old Desktop doesn't see the iPod Touch either.
Even if the iTunes on my old desktop would work with this iPod Touch it wouldn't do me any good. I read in a post that once it is connected to a iTunes Library, if its connected to any other iTunes Library on a different computer it will dump everything that's on it. Which is totally stupid but I think they - iTunes - have it that way so that you cant share your music with somebody elses computer. But that also makes it so I cant manually sync one thing at a time with my own iTunes Library. I tried syncing my music first and after I got some of it on the iPod, in its summary I deselected the music sync and selected the movies or video's so I could manually synce a few to it to see if it would work. Bad move. As soon as I did that it dumped everything that was on it, then said that it could not sync the movies because the files could not be written. HUH? Why a video from YouTube could not be written beats me. But why did it dump all the music?
The last thing I did with it was put all the options in the summary in iTunes back to default, removed everything on the iPod that was left after its last dump, then disconnected it, closed iTunes, and rebooted my laptop and started over from scratch. Started iTunes, connected the iPod, after iTunes found it I opened the iPod summary, made sure everything except sync photo's was selected, then started the sync function. It immediately listed all the songs and the songs info in light gray under music on the iPod. It only got 2 songs copied, then stalled. I just left it alone to see what it would do. I opened the Windows Task Manager to see what it was doing. Even though the iTunes program appered to be stalled it was using 50% of the CPU. After about 15 minutes it showed a popup window saying the song could not be writen then another saying its connection to the iPod had timed out, then iTunes stalled and "not responding" showed in task manager and at the top of the iTunes window. After 30 minutes I had to force it to close with the Task Manager. By then it was after midnight and had been another 12 hours wasted messing with this thing.

  • Video Stalls - Larger File Size

Just downloaded Battlestar Galactica season 2 and the video stalls at full screen. Do not have this problem with previous Battlestar Galactica shows and movies that I have downloaded in the past.
I notice the File Size and Total Bit Rate of the new shows are three times greater in size than the shows I've downloaded in the past.
Using the utility ativity monitor, I notice I'm maxing out my CPU when I go to full screen which I think is causing my video stall.
I also notice that now my previous TV show downloads don't fully fill my screen like that did before the new downloads.
I hope someone might know how I can get my TV shows back to working normal at full screen and why the new TV shows file sizes are larger than before.
    Thanks for Your Help

Thanks for the reply. Shortly after I posted, I started to relize that Apple was offering better TV Show quality which results in larger file sizes. I also went to my Energy Saver section in System Prefrences and found my Optimize Energy Settings was set for Presentations. I changed it to Highest Performance which resolved the issue.

  • Video stalling but Audio OK

I'm experiencing problems with the Video ramdomly "stalling" or just showing a single frame when playing back videos. The Audio keeps playing but the video "freeze" can happen for a few seconds. It normally just carries on after the glitch. This is happening on 90% of my content.
Also, I do notice a bit of vibration occassionaly when the disk is accessed but this does not appear to be related to the video stalling.
    Any suggestions or observations?
    Thanks

Are these movies you converted yourself? If so, were you possibly "pressing the envelop" when it comes data rates and/or settings which tend to "choke" the iPod during decoding/processing of data (e.g., increased pixel dimensions, audio sampling rate, etc.)?

  • Youtube videos stalling

Over the past several weeks I've been getting horrible performance from youtube videos on my MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.   The videos will stall after a short time and they may or may not resume on their own.   I have observed this when using Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera browsers.   I have also observed the same stalling when running a browser within a Parallels virtual machine.   I have reinstalled Chrome with no improvement.   I have switched from wireless to wired network connections with no difference.   I observe that the network transfers displayed on Activity Monitor show received data going to zero and just hanging there.   Sometimes if I change the quality of the youtube video then playback may resume.   Sometimes if I click my cursor just prior to the current youtube playback indicator the video may also start up again for a while.
I also have a Mac Mini on my network and it doesn't seem to have these same stalling problems with youtube videos.
I've searched and found that others are having similar problems but I haven't found any solutions that seem to work for me.   It seems to me that if the same stalling is observed across all browsers then there should be a problem more fundamental than just something with the browser.
I'd appreciate suggestions for things to try other than reinstalling a browser or clearing caches.
    Thanks.

Well, I took the suggestion to try another network and the results looked promising for a while.  But then I started to get the same stalling of youtube video streams that I had on my home network.  So, I started my search for solutions again.  After numerous google searches with keywords related to youtube and slow connections I came across several discussion threads dealing with Verizon throttling youtube streams.  The investigation was done by folks with  much more networking experience than me.  If  you'd like to read one of these threads you can find it at http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/13kmvd/have_time_warner_internet_but _can_barely_stream/
The gist of this thread was that it was possible to block some IP addresses that supplied youtube video from cache sites on the Internet, and restore the source of the youtube video stream to google servers.  I tried blocking the two IP address ranges discussed (206.111.0.0 - 206.111.255.255 and 173.194.55.0 - 173.194.55.255) on my Verizon wireless router and my video streaming quality improved a fair amount.  I was able to stream videos at 720p and 1080p - which I wasn't able to do previously.   I wasn't sure how the addresses to block were determined but they seemed to work.  I did a bit more searching and found another post related to Verizon throttling at http://treworld.com/thoughts/youtube-slow-verizon-fios-may-fix-it/.    This last problem description added another address range to block (173.194.7.0 - 173.194.7.255) so I thought I'd give it a try.   This last change made a huge difference in the streaming rate that I was getting.  The new rates were easily over 2Mbps, much higher than I had before.
I'll have to keep an eye on the connection speeds to see if they remain high, but for now I'm very pleased with the results.   I have seen some reports that the IP addresses of the youtube cache sites seemed to change.   If this is the case then it would make this IP blocking technique a constant guessing game.   I'd like to hear if others get any benefit in streaming performance from youtube using this technique.  I’d also like to find out if there is some way to determine the specific IP addresses that need blocking for specific areas of the country.

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Very poor video quality after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I have very poor video quality after transcoding the video file (MPEG) in  Adobe Encore CS5.1. Below you see my used settings in my filmproject.
The problem exists after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1. I checked all steps and found out that there is no problem until transcoding. My exported file  in MPEG has very good video and audio quality.
    Facts:
    1. Camcorder: Panasonic AG-AC160AEJ
Operating System : Windows 7, 64 Bit, Ultimate edition
    Source files: MTS files
    Recording settings (clip settings):
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 25,00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,0
    2. Sequence settings in Premiere Pro
Sequence was created from Clip directly with settings above.
    3. Exporting settings in Adobe Premiere Pro:
Match sequence settings was activated. Now other changes were set.
    4. Exported File:
    Video
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Data Transfer Rate: 25920 kBit / s
    Frame rate: 25
    Audio:
    Bit rate: 384 kBit / s
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Frequence: 48 kHz
    5. Transcoding settings in Adobe Encore:
I used different transcoding settings such as automatic DVD Transcoding, CBR and VBR.I also set “use maximum render quality”. But all results were always the same: very poor quality.
Why does the encore transcoding cause such bad video quality?
How can I solve this problem?
    Please help me soon.
    Best regards.

    Hi Ann,
    1) I did not only „Automatic (based on source)“ options in my tests, but also many other customized options.
The results are very poor. I have done a new test with the following settings. The result is also poor:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_mpeg2dvd_1.m2v
    Export Settings:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: Custom
Codec: MainConcept MPEG Video, Quality: 5
    Frame Rate: 25 fps
    Field Order: Upper
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Automatic (based on source)
    Render at Maximum Rate: [active]
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
    Minimum Bitrate (Mbps): 5
    Target Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    Maximum Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    GOP Settings
    M Frames: 4
    N Frames: 12
    Use Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    Multiplexer: None
    2) Why shouldn’t I use the “Match Sequence Settings” in exporting? Because of the big output file size?
I used it and the results are very good as I expected:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_MatchSequenceSettings.mpeg
    Export Settings
    Match Sequence Settings [selected]
    1920 x 1080, 25 fps, Upper, Quality 50
    User Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    3) I tried also Dynamic Link in PremierePro (to Encore).
    The results are also poor.
    4) I will test also LagarithLoslessCodec and frameserving +DGMPGDec. But the video is vertical long drawn-ot.
I think I did not use it correctly.
    Regards

  • IBook has no video until after the Apple loading screen

Just as the title says, the iBook (14" G4) will not show video until after the grey Apple loading screen.  It first displays when the Tiger loading screen comes up.  Any ideas?  I've tried a PRAM reset and NVRAM reset.  Anything else I can try?
    Thanks

You could try resetting the PMU, but as long as it's working okay otherwise, I don't think I'd worry about it.

  • Choppy, stuttering video after Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.5 update

    Is anyone else experiencing this?
    Here's a brief story:
I'm on my second MacBook (first one had a squishy mouse button that was replaced by Genius Bar). When the Apple OSX 10.4.7 update came out, I upgraded. The video performance became awful immediately. Anytime I minimized a program (or clicked on it in the dock to un-minimize it) it would stutter and zoom up very choppy, almost seeming like the video wanted to freeze, but wouldn't quite get there. Sometimes scrolling using Firefox or Safari would get choppy too. Then I found out that the inital OSX 10.4.7 update was missing a few files (Open GL, I think). I reinstalled that update off of the Apple website and all was dandy.
Then, the other day, my Microsoft AutoUpdate ran and told me to update to Office 2004 11.2.5. I did. Immediately, video performance went into the tank again, just like when I first upgraded to the bad version of OSX 10.4.7. Minimizing programs was choppy and stuttering again and for a short while I had funky horizontal blue snowy lines when switching tabs in Safari and Firefox. That has since gone away, but the choppy video performance remains.
Anyone experiencing the same since updating Office 2004 to 11.2.5? Anyone have any suggestions?
Help. I love this MacBook, but it's performance is annoying me.
MacBook 2.0 (upgraded 100GB 7200RPM and 2GB Ram) Mac OS X (10.4.7) Thinking 'bout another MacBook
MacBook 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.6) Thinking 'bout another MacBook
MacBook 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Thinking 'bout another MacBook

The updates are not cumulative. You need to download
and install each update from 11.2.1 thru 11.2.3.
Kappy: I tried downloading and installing 11.2.1, with the plan to download and install the other two if 11.2.1 worked. And the program verified upon completion that the installation was successful. However, when I tried to trash the 11.2.1 installation folder as instructed, I got an error message saying that I "did not have sufficient privileges" for the maneuver, and when I opened Word to see what version of Office 2004 I had now, it just said 11.2, not 11.2.1. So I guess my efforts to keep up with modern technology are doomed after all.
On the other hand, since I'm a home-office user and the only one using the application (i.e., I'm the Administrator, but not on an Exchange), I guess there's no harm in not having the updates. Since the issues the three patches resolve seem to be mainly Exchange issues, I don't really need them. But I do appreciate the helpful information from you and Bob Gold--thanks very much.
