Video stretching bug

Ever since the last ipod update (when they added the fullscreen option) my videos have been playing STRETCHED to wide screen dimensions. When I have the widescreen function enabled in the video settings menu it plays the fullscreen videos STRETCHED to the widescreen dimensions with the top and bottom parts of the screen blacked out. When I disable the widescreen option it is still stretched to widescreen dimensions and it plays it on the whole screen and just cuts off the two edges.
Has anyone else had this problem? I only have it on videos I have put on the ipod, not the ones I downloaded from itunes. They worked fine before the most recent update, but I've been having this problem ever since. I tried changing them from being movies in the 'video kind' to being tv shows (like the ones I downloaded from itunes) but that didn't fix it.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Is it a bug apple is aware of that they are working on for the next update?
Can I roll my ipod driver back to before they added the widescreen option?

No, the problem is that it is video from a normal ratio source (a tv show) and that the ipod is stretching it INTO a widescreen format; distorting the image.
When I leave widescreen on it distorts it and shows the widescreen with the blacked out top and bottom. When I turn widescreen off it is still distorted and it chops off the sides.

  • Why Does Video Stretch When Changing Filter Setting During Encoding?

    Hi,
I've exported my video as h.264 720x480. I've burned it to a dvd. Looks pretty good but the brightness is too much. I re-exported as h.264 except this time I lowered the brightness slightly with the filter setting. (don't want to really touch project settings). Brightness is fine now, but the video stretched vertically for some reason. I played the two .mov files on my mac and the stretching definitely occurred during export.
Any ideas what's happening here and what the solution is? I find this bizarre.
    Thanks!

  • Video stretched when exported even when "letterbox" is checked

Hi, I'm trying to export a lower quality version of one of my HD movies. I've previously been able to do this when I export using Quicktime Conversion at 640x480 with the "letterbox to preserve aspect ratio" option checked. However, I just did exactly that but when it is exported the video looks stretched and distorted and no letterbox bars appear on it. I've tried switching from H.264 to m-peg4 converter to see if that would make a difference but it is still exporting stretched videos. Why has this suddenly changed, and are there any fixes you know about?
    Thanks!

Try creating a new Project with the Sequence settings matching the footage correctly. Then copy/paste the the incorrect Sequence into the new matching Sequence.

  • Music & Video App Bugs in iOS 8

Probably mentioned before but it looks like the Music and Video Apps are suffering from a few bugs. These issues are identical on my iPhone 5s and my iPad Air after updating to iOS8.
Album art that previously appeared in front of a Playlist's title in the Music App has disappeared.
I'm seeing the same band listed twice in the Music App, under 'A' for the bands name and under 'T' for "the". The 'T' is following directly after the 'A', making it weirder.
In the Video App, some TV Show titles, and all Music Videos have lost their album art work. Oddly, the Movie titles seem unaffected.
    -m

This isn't a Music app issue, per se, but it is related, so I'll put it here.
On my iPhone 5s, the volume control on the lock screen is now very close to the transport control buttons, so much so that it can be almost impossible to adjust the volume without activating one of the transport buttons instead.  This is especially frustrating when listening to iTunes Radio as I will frequently activate the Skip button, which not only skips the song, of course, but inadvertently reduces my skip count.  Since nothing else seems to have changed in the lock screen's layout, this repositioning makes no sense.

  • IPod Video Volume Bug

    Hello everybody
I have a problem with the volume for music videos.
if I play them and move the volume up to maximum then the volume is much lower, if I do the same with audio files. funny is, when is choose maximum volume and stop the video and play it again - the volume is much better. but if I touch the wheel, the volume will go down again.
hopefully this is a firmware/software bug. maybe it helps to reset the iPod, but I dont find a description for that.
(sorry for my bad english) thanks, tonic

It does sound like you need to reset the IPOD. If you are using a Mac, you will find the software already on there. Go to:
    Applications>Utilities>Ipod Software Updater
You can also download it at:

  • 2014 Video Usage Bug?

    I just updated to version 2014.0 / 8.0.0
    Win 7 Pro
I frequently use the Video Usage feature in the project window by clicking on the arrow next to the number of instances shown to locate all instances of a clip in a sequence(s).
Since updating to the new version, when I click on the arrow nothing happens. Has this feature been removed or is it s bug? I certainly hope it has not been removed, I rely heavily on this feature.

  • Samsung Video Flashing Bug

I found a bug in the current version of the firmware (version 1024) for the Samsung TV UN55D8000. I just wanted to let people be aware of the issue.
The issue is that the app flashes black when a video attempts to loop.
I have the stageVideo seek to the start to its 0 point when the netstream reports that the video has reached its end.
When the video loops, the entire app flashes to a black screen for a split second.
This is NOT a problem on the Broadcom developer box or on TiVo devices - just the above mentioned Samsung TV. Therefore, I assume this is a Samsung bug.

    Thanks for sharing the info.

  • Messages video chat bug

Whenever I try video calling a person on Messages, they dont recieve the call even though it tells me it's calling them. Also, whenever someone calls me, the green light pops up by my webcam but i dont recieve the message to accept the video call. Is this a fixable bug?

    Hi,
This is most likely about whether the video ports Messages uses are open in your router.
Out going calls (The Visible Invite to your Buddy)  can create the return being accepted. (or the next Invite from them).
However Messages then moves to port 16402 and send an SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) invite behind the scenes.
This is a text based protocol that acts a bit like a Telephone Operator to connect Messages.
It confirms that where you sent the invite is where the reply is coming from.
It also confirms the ports to be used in a Video chat  (16402 by first choice)
I would set your router to use UPnP to allow ports if the router has it.
I would also check the System Preferences > Security  And Privacy > Firewall tab > Firewall Options button is allowing Signed Software and that Messages and IMAgent are in the list.

  • Video Driver Bug?

Ever since installing Yosemite on my Late 2012, 27" iMac, Adobe Photoshop has caused problems when opening and saving large images. The time of trouble is inconsistent. Once it starts, I have to close and open Photoshop for it to go away.
What happens is the image I am working on will get randomly tiles as if a mosaic.
Chris Cox posted on Adobe's site that this is a known bug due to faulty video drivers in OS 10.10 Yosemite. That forum says turning off "Use Graphics Processor" in Photoshop > Preferences > Performance solves the problem. He said Apple is aware of the problem and is working on a fix. That was posted December 3, 2014, two months ago.
I did that, now the magnifying glass works the way it did about three versions ago, and simple things like cloning have slowed down so that they are not in real time anymore.
Does anyone know? is this Apple's problem? If so, are they really working on it? Why is it taking so long?

kokoko3k wrote:Thank you for explaining, so i have to assume that the "on board" lcd panel is at fixed rate and the external one (through vga, it's a panasonic viera led/lcd) is not ?
Still the inconsistency between what xrandr reports and the real panel refresh is confusing me, and if the refresh isn't really changed, i can't explain the higher delay when switching to text tty.
Yes, the internal connection is known to be an LCD panel, whereas the VGA can be a CRT or an LCD.  In the case of an LCD on a VGA connector, the controller receives and decodes the video signal and recovers the data, whatever the timing and format.  Those data are then scaled to the native format of the LCD panel and are buffered in RAM.  The backend reads data from RAM and drives the panel in use at the rate, in the format it demands.
I cannot really speak to the inconsistency regard xrandr and the actual refresh rate.  I can envision some scenarios, but they would just be hypotheses.
One interesting thing about LCDs -- They don't flicker like CRTs.  LCDs shutters pretty much remain static from frame to frame, emitting light for the entire period.  CRTs only emit light from a pixel after it has been illuminated by the sweeping electron beam.  This is why it is possible to photograph LCD displays at arbitrary shutter speeds.  This does mitigate most of the need to drive the panel at one rate or the other.  The only real issue is that, in order to eliminate mid-field tearing by synchronizing to a non-native frame rate, requires dropping frames when going from 60->50Hz or doubling frames when going from 50->60Hz.

  • Problem with iOS 7 - picture/video iMessages bug?

I've been trying to send this in as feedback but it hasn't been going through. So I'll post it here. Maybe someone has an answer, or maybe it's a bug that Apple needs to look at.
I think these are bugs. First of all, I love that we can now send up to 20 items that include both video and pictures.
    1) When sending images or videos via iMessage, it doesn't always work. It may work after I quit the photos and messages app a few times and then try to send, but if I send some and try to send some more right after (straight from the photos app), they don't go through. I get the message window open and I choose the recipient and I hit send, but nothing happens after that. The only way I've been able to get around it is to select the items and copy and paste them directly into the messages app. Please fix this, it would make things much more efficient.
    2) when there are multimedia messages, the messages app does not archive them in the conversation. Meaning, when you scroll up in a conversation, it continues to scroll up and the app loads every single message at once rather than giving you the option to pull down to load more. I've noticed that is still there when the messages are all text. But when there are pictures/videos involved, they don't get archived and this severely impacts loading time when opening up the messages. Sometimes they won't open at all and freeze because of all the memory it requires just to load everything. It happens on my end as well as with the person on the other end of the conversation - both of us are on iOS 7. I'm on an iPhone 4S and they have an iPhone 5. This has been happening since the upgrade to iOS 7.
These are pretty big bugs and should be addressed ASAP. Thanks.

I have had numerous problems with sending media in messages either from messages or from photos app as well.
In general it seems this new os version was kind of rushed and is still very buggy throughout.  the 7.1 update should rectify the most common issues (i hope), but definitely try the feedback page again.

  • Video play bug?

    Hello,
I have a very strange problem. In my Indesign document I placed an arrow at the end of a page and formatted it as a button with the function "go to the next page". On that next page I embedded a video that plays in full screen mode when tapping on another button. The "go to next page" button and the "video button" on the next page have nothing to do with each other and are not linked. However, when I tap the "go to next page button" it starts to play the video from the next page in full screen. I don't understand why this is the case and it looks like a bug to me. Is there a way to work around this? I have these kind of buttons very often and so far it always worked without problems. But this time, it doesn't. Can somebody please help me on this? Thank you in advance.
"go to next page" button, bottom right:
    "video play" button, top right:

It does not happen when I swipe to that page. It happens when I tap on the "go to next page" button (sometimes, not always, that's the funny thing). And what I found out now, it also happens sometimes when I tap in an empty area at the bottom right of the page with the "go to next page" button. That does not make any sense to me.

  • H.264 Video Encoding Bug Introduced?

I'm not sure if the issue is related to a fix for a previous bug, or just a new bug introduced for this player.
My original problem was with the reporting of Camera.activityLevel. It only reports 0 and 100 when encoding with H.264 in FP11+ release, Sorenson reports the results properly. I was told it was fixed in this beta, which it does appear to be
    See this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3999479
However I now see a new problem in this beta.  My application allows me to change the video settings on my H.264 encoded stream (quality, resolution, fps, etc) during the broadcast. And it works perfectly in FP11+. However, with the beta it now appears to cause problems and be broken.
Changing settings on an existing stream (it looks to be when changing from 320x240 to 640x480) causes streaks of red, green, and blue vertical lines over the  video image and the aspect ratio is wrong. The image appears squished - everything short and fat like mabe it's increaing the width value, but not the height. I'm testing the beta on Windows 32bit IE7 with a Logitech 9000 and on a different machine using Windows 32bit IE8 with a Logitech C910 with the same results.
The camera.width & camera.height properties to seem to report their values properly, but the stream as viewed on the server is definitely not at the correct resolution.
Can anyone verify this or advise? This version looks like it will break my app if released so thankfully it's still a beta.
    Thank you!

OK, in FP11 Beta 2 it appears you have fixed this bug (aspect ratio messed up when switching from 320x240 to 640x480), but now you've reintroduced the Camera.activityLevel bug again. It only reports 0 and 100, this was fixed in Beta 1.
    To summarize:
    FP 11 release
    Camera.activityLevel - broken, only reports 0 and 100
Changing camera size from 320x240 to 640x480 - works
    FP 11.2 beta 1
    Camera.activityLevel - fixed
Changing camera size from 320x240 to 640x480 - broken, turns video from color to black and white and has a strange aspect ratio
    FP 11.2 beta 2
    Camera.activityLevel - broken, only reports 0 and 100
Changing camera size from 320x240 to 640x480 - works
Hopefully you'll have everything working in beta 3.
Do I need to submit a bug report for the Camera.activityLevel bug in FP 11.2 Beta 2?

  • Why is my captured video stretched?

    Hi all -
I am trying to import some footage off of a DVCam tape of mine that was shot at 4:3. In the Log and Capture screen, the video looks like it's normal ratio, but when it is finished capturing and a file is sitting in my bin, upon opening it in the viewer it is stretched to 16:9. What could be the cause of this? I have looked over my settings and everything seems to be at the default that they normally are for my other footage. I'm pretty stumped.

Assuming everything you note above is correct and assuming you didn't capture it as 16x9 then you might try trashing preferences

repair disk permissions with the disk utility

  • Source video stretched upon import and export

Hello: When I import video in iTunes directly from my videocam (640x480), it stretches the video when I export it. I would like to export it at 640x480 as well, but it stretches it. Is there a preference or something so that my video stays in it's original porportion? I would prefer to Share it as full quality so I can bring it into iDVD to make a DVD. Thanks for your answers.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm going to read your note to mean you are exporting from iMovie HD to a Full Quality movie, not exporting from iTunes or some other program. If I'm wrong about that, please say.
I suspect everything is just as it should be. When you export from a DV iMovie project, a Full Quality export is to a DV stream, which is always 720x480 (NTSC). That's perfect for iDVD; it expects that size.
You can export to other kinds of movies too using the Expert Settings export mode. Those would be exported as 640x480 -- or some other 4:3 aspect ratio -- but DV streams should be 720x480.
(Deep in its subconscious, a 720x480 DV stream thinks it's a 640x480 movie. It has to do with square vs. rectangular pixels. It's all very complicated and it makes your head hurt to think about it The reality is that your 720x480 movie will come out fine on the DVD. Let iDVD worry about it.)
