Video thumbnails in organizer

I cannot see the thumbnails for my mpeg files in organizer. why?

Organizer as in Premiere Elements?
If so post will be moved to correct forum.
Or do you mean the Media Browser?
What kind of mpeg are they: what is their origin?

Video thumbnails won't display in organizer (win 7)

after importing jpegs & mpegs into premier 8 the pics display as thumbnails but the videos do not. Instead just a film strip icon with the name of the video. the video wont play in the organizer. However video thumbnails display & play if I open them in a project. strange???!

With your MPEGs, it depends on how your system is set up and if they are compatible.
But, with JPEGs, the thumbnails simply may not have been generated yet. It takes a while (depending on how much media you have on your computer and how fast your computer is) for the Organizer to build your initial catalog and generate all of the thumbnails. Be patient. Each time you turn your Organizer on, it's working. Eventually they'll show up -- and then they'll be there for as long as you keep your catalog.
NOTE: The exception is if you are running the 64-bit version of Windows 7, which is not yet fully compatible with this program.

Quicktime .mov Video Thumbnails... possible?

Notice how a Video File in Windows will show a Thumbnail of the Video when Explorer is set to Thumbnail View...

I had the same problem, which is quite unpleasant when yo work with video and you have dozens of folders with lots of clips out of control... viewing them as preview in the comlums view mode is just too slow! and using iphoto to organize video (which creates thmbnails, but only inside the app) is no use... but i found an small application to create thumbnails (for image, video, pdf, etc) that works pretty fine. You just drag and drop the files over it, and it creates all the thumbnails in seconds.

Can't play video in PSE7 Organizer

This worked until recently, but when I go into PSE7's organizer, I get what looks like a generic audio thumbnail for all of my video files. Perhaps a related issue is when I try to import movies from a card reader, the importer freezes (but does not crash) after it imports the first movie. These are Quicktime (*.mov) files from a Panasonic Lumix camera, and I'm running PSE 7 under Win7.
When I double-click on a video thumbnail, I get the sound from the video but no picture. Curious.
Any ideas what's going on? Quicktime movies play fine outside of the organizer, it's probably just some association within PSE7.

Just to let you know that PSE7 can play only those video that can be played in Windows Media Player.
So, you can try playing your video with this player and see if it works. This is still unknown whether PSE uses quicktime or WMP to play the videos.

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files. It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them. I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.

It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

Missing Video thumbnails in iphoto in iphoto 11

I have just discovered lots of missing movies in my iphoto library, I have re imported them from an iphoto backup, and if i search for the keyword movie they appear, but no thumbnails appear in the photo display. I have tried rebuilding the library but none of the imported videos show up. New videos imported from my camera show up fine.

I triple checked a handful of the video files and they aren't exhibiting black at the start.
How I checked:
- Select black video thumbnail image
- Press space bar (to "zoom" and begin playing video"
- Stop video playback at approx. five seconds in (video counter reads 00:00:05)
- Rewind "playhead" to very start of video so that the counter reads 00:00:00 and there is definately an image / content being displayed (e.g. is not black)

How can I delete the iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie?

It's been a while since I've used iMovie, and when I opened the application tonight, I got the following message:
"iMovie needs to generate thumbnails for the videos in your iPhoto library. This process may take several minutes.
You can postpone this operation by clicking Later, but your iPhoto videos will be unavailable until the next time you restart iMovie."
I accidentally hit NOW, and the process began. When I realized it had used about 5 GBs of space, I force quit iMovie, but the disk space was not reclaimed. I need this space back now... I can import the iPhoto videos later. How can I undo the generated iPhoto video thumbnails? There was no project generated, and so no folder with the thumbnails in them. Where are they located? I would like to delete the iPhoto video thumbnails within iMovie, but preserve the thumbnails for other projects. And of course I would like to be sure that I keep the videos themselves in iPhoto - I definitely do not want to lose the videos there. Thanks for your help.

The latest incarnation of iMovie doesn't offer the 'Export with Quicktime'-options, the previous versions did.

Thumbnails in Organizer are already corrected?

The thumbnails in the organizer seem to be corrected for color, brightness, etc. For example...three bracketed exposures of the same scene appear as identical thumbnails in the Organizer. I would like to see exactly what I shot. I cannot find a preference for this. Is there one?
If I open them in Camera Raw and select "Default" and then close Camera Raw, the Organizer now displays the file as it was shot.

Select the thumbnails in Organizer.
Click Edit >> Update Thumbnail for Selected Items.

Video thumbnails scrambled, won't playback (v3.4.3)

My video thumbnails in Aperture (version 3.4.3) are scrambled. Sometimes I can see part of a reference thumbnail frame (often in monochrome or with a single color overlay, like green), sometimes it's just all snow.
1) I just restored my mac mini from a time machine backup.
2) I also just imported an iPhoto library
If I browse to a pre-existing (before Time Machine restore) Aperture project, the correct thumbnail appears briefly before changing to the scrambled version.
When I select the video for playback all I get is a blank Viewer window (not video content, no controls, no playback).
If I browse to the source file via finder the video thumbnail displays and the video plays back correctly.
I have tried:
1) verifying and repairing disk permissions
2) repairing Aperture permissions
3) repairing the Aperture database
4) rebuilding the Aperture database
5) regenerating thumbnails (select video Photos->Regenerate Thumbnails) (thumbnail changes, still scrambled)
I don't use Aperture often so I'm not 100% sure when this started, but it seems to be after this current restore as supported by the brief correct appearance of old video thumbnails before they update to the scrambled version.

I suggest to check the video codecs you have installled; if you use Perian or have a flip-camera, you may have an incompatible video codec installed, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4155
Why was a TimeMachine restore necessary? And did you use any helper/uninstaller/cleaner utilities, before you made the backup or after restoring? Sometimes this kind of helpers remove too much. I this case you may need to reinstall Mt. Lion to restore missing system components, that are not included in your TimeMachine backup.

How to create a video thumbnail???

I'm pretty new to FCP but I've just finished several shorts and I'm getting ready to upload them to my web site and other video sites. I would like a specific frame to appear as the video thumbnail. (In other words: the "preview frame" that appears in the player when it's not playing).
No one in my periphery seems to know how to do this.
Most video sites give you their choices of frames you can use. For instance YouTube gives you three options but chances are none will be the frame you want.
I would like to select the specific frame I want, regardless of where I upload it.
Has anyone had experience with this?

That's not going to work. The frames available on YouTube are set to specific times in the video.
Other services such as Vimeo might use a different timing or a different system altogether.
QuickTime compatible media can take advantage of the Set Poster Frame function and it can be any frame that you choose. Once the clip is outside the QuickTime environment, you take your chances with what's on offer.
The only way you can have any control over this is to set the poster frame in a QuickTime movie and host it on a compatible site such as MobileMe for example.

You need to keep the keys pressed for several seconds. Close down Elements. Hold down the CtrlShiftAlt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys until you get the settings option. You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?Click on YesThen wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences. Black video thumbnails in iPhoto (Mavericks)

Hello everyone.
I have Mavericks on a late 2012 Macbook Pro running iPhoto 9.5.1.
I recently noticed that rough a third of my videos were displaying thumbnails that are just black. I freaked for a second, thinking the movie files were gone or something but thankfull the video files are still there and play just fine.
Still it would be nice to see that the video thumbnail images are rather than just black rectangles, right?
I tried all the different iPhoto rebuilding options (which takes a heckuva long time! ... then purchased iPhoto Library Manager and attempted some rebuild options using that with no luck.
Wondering if anyone has had this issue too and/or solved it?

Missing thumbnails in organizer (v5)

Why do only some thumbnails display in the organizer? I need thumbnails shown of ALL image files in each folder.
For ex, I copied a bunch of images into a project folder for editing. Only 3 files out of maybe 80 show up as thumbnails in organizer. The original versions in other folders do have thumbnails. I have the folder set to automatically update.

Just a late thought-are there possible duplicate files? You said you copied some to a project folder. Elements does not like duplicates (even if in different folders).
Organzier uses tags and collections for subdividing/grouping photos, instead of folders. So if Folder 1 has 50 pictures and you need 10 for a special project, you can tag these with Project 1 and filter on only those. Or you could make a Project 1 collection, do your editing and stuff and then export these to a slide show or disk.
Could this be a reason you do not see the thumbnails?

Video Thumbnail images gone - iPad 1st gen, iOS5

After updgrading my iPad 1st gen to iOS5, all of my video thumbnail images are gone.
The iPad just displays a white box with a gray flat screen TV icon for every video file listed under Movies or TV Shows
This is most troublesome when I touch the TV Shows button and I get a page full of those white boxes with the TV icon - and, as has always been the case, there is no name for the TV show. So I'm lost in the white boxes trying to find LOST the TV show.
Any thoughts on how I get my thumbnails back?

If they are in your iTunes library on your computer why don't you try syncing again. Make sure that all of the shows are selected to sync along with the sync Movies heading and then sync again.
If they are only on the iPad it might be a good idea to transfer the purchases into the iTunes library. Connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes and right click on the device name and select Transfer Purchases.
If you have tried syncing, try restarting, resetting and quitting the videos app.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
To quit the videos app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

[FIXED] No video thumbnails in File Manager (Thunar or PCManFM)

I have a problem of video thumbnails in my file manager. I browse the web a lot to found a answer.
The only solution I found are:
- install tumbler
- remove all cache: .thumbnails, .cache/Thunar and .config/Thunar
- try the svn version of ffmpegthumbnailer in aur
I try all of those 3 solution, none fix my probleme.
And in Thunar or PCManFM I have thumbnails for picture and pdf but not for videos.
I'm up to date and here the version installed on my computer:

I have a desktop file for ffmpegthumbnailer in /usr/share/thumbnailers/ffmpegthumbnailer.desktop, and when I try ffmpegthumbnailer in a shell it's works fine.
