Video thumnail over motion background

Hello adobe users.
I am having some difficulty in learning to create a video thumbnail that is not an actual "button".
I have edited a preview loop, and wish to display it on one of my sub-menu's. My goal is to have a video preview pane that does not act like an actual button, meaning the video play within the thumbnail only. I do not wish for this button object to actually link to another sub-menu or full screen video.
my O'reilly Encore DVD book mentions this is possible but doesn't explain how it is done specifically.
Seems to me that encore could be improved with a simple option to deactivate the link property, while the video properties still remain on the object
Can anyone help me out please?
best regards,
Scott

Hi Scott,Bill & John
Scott has raised this issue again
why can we not disable the button from navigation but retain its features its a great idea.
Scott we offered a good solution for this derived from a previous thread and ideas from the above minds
without using other softwares.
have a read here

the article links back to the original forum discussion
video editor is a good alternative
i personally put the boat out for after effects integration as it overcomes many restrictions and allows for proper project recreation.
Herein lies a problem, i remember many years ago i used after effects for the first time, gee was i dissappointed, not that software was in anyway bad it just did not easily reveal its capabilities.
by including media project builders by example and conveying the relevant software capability simultaneously permitting access and use of the concept makes the learning process much more enjoyable

After effects needs to shipped with more of this
with cs3 integration this type of consructor can easily be included into encore and it would be nice to see some dynamic link project inclusions

Is it possible to have video with a transparent background in dps?. Basically i've animated some elements in apple motion and want to incorporate them as an overlay (with the indesign page background showing through).

You could do it with an image sequence but AFAIK there’s no support for alpha channels in video.

  • Purchased Motion backgrounds to use in FCE - not working correctly!

    Hi there,
Perhaps someone can help me. I ordered some motion backgrounds from actionbacks.com and have been trying to use them in FCE. These backgrounds are meant to loop seamlessly when they are stacked side by side...
When i drag one into the timeline, copy it and put the copied one next to it they are seamless and look very nice. But as soon as I add a video to the timeline above the background and render it, i am getting a black flash that happens inbetween the two looped backgrounds. Tech support for the product says it sounds like a Final Cut Express issue. Any insight anyone?
    Thanks a lot,
    Karen

Hello Tom - Sorry for the very long delay in getting back to you on this. My Aunt passed away and I haven't been back to my computer for some time... I just launched this problem again and found where we left off. (Hopefully you don't mind re-examining this issue with me after so long).
To answer your last question, yes, when I exported a quicktime self-contained movie of the loops stacked side by side, i still get the black flicker. I see it when i watch it in QT and also when I re-import it into FCE. I even see it before I ever add a video clip to V2!
Yes, I can put the loops side by side on the timeline and play them and I don't see the black flash. It seems that I only see the flicker when I render (after placing the video on V2) OR when I export the loop as a QT movie.
Any more thoughts on this? Actionbacks is a very reputable company... I know this problem must be on my end, otherwise they wouldn't stay in business!
Thanks for any additional help you may be able to offer.

  • How do I  produce buttons that appear at the end of a motion background? Please Help!!!

I just began working with my new production premuim CS3 suite and the current project that I am working on calls for buttons that appear right the end of the motion background. I have tryed everywhich way I can think of to import and export buttons that I thought I created in after effects. The video background works but when it get to the last frame of the video the buttons do not work. Please someone who has a bit more experience working with encore and after effects help.

    Try

ALso, http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/encore%202.html has some material that might state it is for 2.0, but is equally valid in CS3.

  • A video made with Motion for your viewing

I haven't seen many people post videos that they've made in this forum, so I hope it's not too self-promotional to do so. I regularly check the iWeb forums, and over there people regularly post samples of their work, which I think is good, cause I can get some ideas from this.
Well, I made this video entirely using Motion, so I thought people here might be interested. If you're a Motion user, it's pretty obvious what the effects are: ie. particle emitter, orbit around object, zooms, replicator, etc ...
The video is called "The Future is China". Made for an online video contest with a "future" theme. The video is a spoof, so please don't take it too seriously (the US-China relations issue can be a fairly hot issue, I know). Anyway, here it is:

I'd say I'm still in the latter stages of being a novice at this sort of thing, so I will be receptive to tips if you have any.

  • DVD Menu/motion background issue

Every time I try to add a motion background to my DVD menu, the photoshop menu gets stretched horizontally. It looks fine when you add the video but when you preview and render it or burn it to DVD it stretches the menu. see screen shot.

Your menu shows as 1080x720; you say this is for DVD, but size would be wrong for DVD or Bluray.
Yes, you can get away with a variety of sizes; Encore will eventually transcode the menu to the project defaults. But using odd menu sizes makes problems more likely.
Make the menu itself the correct size. (Start with a library template for the project type - HD vs SD, standard vs wide.) Bring in a motion menu asset that is also the correct size. Don't  let Encore do any resizing of those assets.

  • How Smooth Should Flash Video Play over a 6Mbps DSL Connection?

    Hello,
I am noticing a lot of stuttering on my Flash videos viewed over the internet, Win 7 64bit and IE 8, Opera & Chrome.
Here is a link to some tests - http://watchmymvp.com/Encoding%20Test/EncodingTest.htm
Please give some feedback on your playback experience if you would!
    Some background:
I am a video producer who shoots, edits, encodes and manages a few websites.  I am very familiar with bitrates and encoding.
The videos I am seeing stuttering on are created from HD content and were encoded in Adobe Media Encoder at a bitrate from 775kbps down to 400kbps.  When I play these through my 6meg DSL connection there is a constant random stutter like the video is stuggling with a low buffer.  This happens even after the download bar shows the entire video is downloaded.
So am I expecting too much from Flash video?  Will it always be an "internet" experience and not smooth?
When I double-click the .swf files in Windows Explorer they play just fine, very smooth.  Maybe a SWF Publishing setting?
The Flash player is the latest which was uninstalled and re-installed
    Thanks!

Hello Vicente, thanks for your reply.
So the videos did not show stuttering when you watched them?  Could I ask what your computer specs are? - Mac/PC, browser etc...
I get a random stutter which shows up more when there is camera movement.
I am trying to track down why this is happening when the .swf file played locally plays perfectly.
Since I an in the video industry, I would like these files to play as if they are on a television is that is possible.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Can I zoom into a video, running in the background?

    Hi Guys
    Here is the situation.
I create a video in PE, using another video running in the background, and my characters and 3D content green screened in front of it.
Now I want to zoom in on my character in the forground.
I do the zoom in Poser and output the video with the green screen behind it and import it into PE,
Of course the background remains static in PE, so it doesn't look quite right because the background stays the same as the camera moves
I know how to enlarge and move the background video around, for the entire clip, but is there a way to do it gradually,
For example, can I have the video at normal framing at frame 600 and then have it move in on the image so that it enlarges gradually to the new cropping at frame 750.
Just a small amount of movement in the background will do compared to the forground content.
Then I'll match it up with the zooming camera done in Poser so that in the scene the camera will appear to move in on the whole thing not just my green screened content.
I hope I'm explaining this so it's clear.
    Mike

    Hi
I'm struggling through this project but once it's done I think I'm going back to 10 until the bugs get worked out.
I'm getting strange video distortions, and some other issues, it's crashed a number of times, and it takes forever to do anything.
In one of my clips the green screen would show in some areas of the clip, not all over, part of the frame would show the BG and other areas  would be green.
I finally solved that by combining the object and background video in Poser, I've had problems doing that in the past but I finally go that solved.
I have to have the preview windows the size of a postage stamp in order to get to even come close to keeping up, an I have a really, really fast computer.
I can play Skyrim at 144 frames per second in stereo mode on a 27 inch 1920 by 1080 monitor.
That gives me a thought, maybe I should set my refresh rate down to 60 Fps, maybe it can't keep up with PE at that rate.
I'll try that, after I get out of here.
I am getting through the project though, slowly.
I've found that like earlier versions I can't import uncompressed video files, I always have to use some form of compression, doesn't matter what, avi, wmv. Mpeg, but if I don't compress them they won't import.
The good news it that I've had a lot of issues with the titles, and I now have a good copy of the mostly completed video saved in 2 formats, so if worse comes to worse I can grab the titles off of one of those.
I would have the titles section all done that then the next time I would open it there would be some kind of video problem.
Anyway at this point if I get stuck I'm at a point where I could import the partially finished file that I saved all in one piece and open it in 10 and finish it.
I kind of wish I had upgraded to 11 instead. LOL
    Mike
I did see some performance improvements after setting my refresh rate down too 60 fps.

  • Anyone used VisionNet system "designed to provide real-time streaming video feeds over the Internet"?

I'm a Mac user and we only have Macs at home. My son just started preschool, which offers a VisionNet system--"a state-of-the-art system of cameras, servers, and software designed to provide real-time streaming video feeds over the Internet." However, on the VisionNet FAQ page, it specifies the following:
"You need a web browser that is Java-enabled, perferably Microsoft Internet Explorer.  If you're running Microsoft Internet Explorer, it needs to be version 6.x or higher.  We recommend Internet Explorer 6.x as this is the latest and most up-to-date product release.  Some Windows XP and Windows XP Professional users will have do download a Java runtime environment in order to use the VisionNet system if they have not done so already."
We don't have any PCs at home, so I  tried to log in using my MacPro desktop, my old MacBook Pro and my new MBP. Basically, for the last 3 weeks I've managed to access the site only ONCE from my desktop and after the time-out session, I wasn't able to log on ever again (I just cannot enter any keys on the Username and Password fields at login). If I hit the Logon button from the FAQ page, I get an "Unauthorized Access" pop-up message: "This site may only be entered from an authorized web site! Please enter this site from your childcare provider's web site." When I enter "OK" I immediately get a pop-up menu "Confirm Dialog Preference. Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs" but I still can't enter any keys at login. It does nothing!
The "support guy" has NO knowledge of Macs, so I don't know where else to go. The fact that I had successfully logged on once makes me believe it's something I have to update/delete/add in my Preferences in Firefox (I've used Safari and Chrome with no success). I've also considered purchasing an inexpensive PC just for this lousy VisionNet system  but I want to see if anyone has any ideas or advice.
Can anyone please help me?   Thank you in advance!

Here is a link to the finished PSA at Vimeo. It is not an outstanding production or anything too special, but it is worth noting that while some of the stills were doctored in Photoshop, the entirety of the editing and motion graphics were done in Premiere CS6.02; and the timeline playback was RealTime thanks to the MPE Hardware Acceleration and a GTX 560 2GB.

  • Banding in animated motion background

Hi. I exported a 6 sec. motion background from After Effects as a pict sequence, brought the sequence onto the timeline of FCE, animated the color balance settings, re-exported the sequence from FCE as a QuickTime movie and burned it to a DVD (using iDVD). Viewing the DVD on a television monitor shows noticeable banding of tones in the higher contrast areas of the motion background. Is there anything I can do to lessen or avoid altogether this effect? I think I'm doing my exports at highest quality but maybe there's a setting or two I'm not aware of that will give me greater color depth or whatever it is I need to maintain smooth, continuous tones. Also: I work w/ animation a lot and often export my pict sequence from the FCE timeline as a QuickTime movie and then bring the QuickTime movie back onto the timeline and replace the pict sequence because the QT movie is easier to work w/ and doesn't require re-rendering. I do notice a slight loss in sharpness between the original pict sequence and the exported QT movie but I quess there's no way around this? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
    Stopmotion

    A couple of warnings.
First, when you work in FCE you can avoid burning a DVD to check the final quality of your movie: connect your Mac to an interlaced TV through firewire and a D/A converter and select the external Apple Firewire device in View/Video Out (most DV camcorders may also work as converter). What you see in the canvas, or in the QT player (after exporting from FCE) may be better or worse than the picture you'll see in the TV, but the quality you'll see in the connected TV will be basically the same as from playing the final DVD.
Second, FCE native formats are either DV or HDV (AIC), so some degradation in quality cannot be avoided when you import a pict sequence.
This degradation may get worse and worse the more you export from FCE, process in QT, and import back to FCE. You should reduce this cycle to the very minimum or avoid it altogether. While using Export/QuickTime Movie should not degrade quality at all, probably you cannot do without Export/Using QuickTime Conversion if you need to export a pict sequence for processing in Quicktime.
This might not solve your problem, but I hope it can help you in any case.

  • How do I set the motion background?

If I have a timeline that is 1:30:00 in total length and for the motion background I want to start at 1:15:00 of the timeline and run for 10 seconds and then loop back to that point, what should I set the Duration and Loop Points at?

I guess I'm not sure what you are saying.  Motion Backgrounds apply to Menu's not Timelines.
Assuming you want a motion background for your menu, you would have to
    1.  Cut the ten seconds out of your 1min30sec clip in AE or Premiere as Bill suggested and export it as .avi
    2.  Import this clip as an asset into Encore and alt-drag it onto your menu to replace the static background.
    3.  No need to set duration or loop point.
If you mean you want a certain 10 seconds of video playing in a video button, then
1.Set the poster frame where you want to start on the timeline and set the duration of the menu to 10 sec.
    I hope this makes sense.

  • Audio not played for Motion Background

I have created a movie in my NLE as a motion background for a menu in Encore 2.0. When I preview the dvd project after rendering the audio plays fine but when I burn to dvd the audio is missing but the motion video still plays.
Why is this audio not playing on the burned dvd

In what form is the motion background when you bring it into Encore? Is it an avi? Is it compressed?
Is the audio stream a separate file?
If separate, is the audio stream a different length to the video file? Is the audio stream just a .wav file or what?

  • Recommendations for corporate HD motion backgrounds?

    Howdy, everyone.
I have my first Motion project in a while and I'm looking to buy some corporate motion backgrounds. Anyone have a good recommendation?
FYI, I see Juice Drops has their Canvases #1 and #3 on sale in February for $49. That seems like an excellent deal.

  • Gif/png with mask/clipping path over a background

I'm fluent in Photoshop, Illustrator and am decent in Flash
    (but it's been a while).
What I'm trying to do is to have multiple masked objects
(images - not vector) fade in and out over a background that is
also in motion. My client has provided me with a psd with all the
    images, text etc. on layers.
I've made gifs w/transparency but no matter what I do,
there's a white line around the edge of the graphic. Image was made
in PShop by erasing everything except what was desired and saved as
gif/trans. White edge appears due to being on a dark background...I
edit the gif in PShop and erase the whole outer edge, save, update
    and it's still there!
I've messed a bit with the mask feature in Flash and am
stumbling thru Fireworks editing, but just cant seem to make this
    work right!
I can't find a source of info that is in-depth enough to help
    me out.
If you have any suggestions, I (not to mention my client!)
will very much appreciate your wisdom!

You were absolutely right! It wasn't that hard...thanks to
    you!
    (Hope you like beer, btw!)
Now all I have to do is fix the walls where I was banging my
    head against 'em!
    Thanks again!

  • Drop zone (transparent) over motion menu problem

    Hello.
I've created a semi-transparent photoshop file that I would like to use as a dropzone. When I import the psd file, DVDSP lists it as a "quicktime picture". When I drag the asset over my motion menu the part that is supposed to be transparent is white and covers up the entire motion background. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong here?
Has anyone had success using transparent graphics in DVDSP 4?
    Thanks.

i dont believe you can mix photoshop files the way you are intending with motion menus. I know you can create custom drop zones and patches using photoshop, but this is a more involved process than just dropping a psd over motion. I have exported tga that maintains transparency information and used them to success as drop zones. you could try that.
It would be better to bring you psd into a compositing program like motion, after effects, or even final cut, and create the motion for your menu there. Export it, compress it to m2v and bring that into dvd sp.
