Video too light

If I tick the Final Cut Studio compatibility checkbox in QuickTime Pro preferences my H264 videos ( exported from Final Cut or Mpeg Streamclip or Compressor) look correct.
If I then upload these videos to Vimeo or BlipTv they appear far too light, just as they do in QT on my computer if the box isn't checked.
My question: how can I make it so that uploaded videos appear the way they do when the box IS checked?
Curoiusly, the checkbox issue doesn't apply to video saved in Photo-Jpeg format but Photo-Jpeg videos are huge and far too big to upload anywhere.
I suppose that what I'm looking for is a way to "bake in" the FCP compatibility setting somehow.
Many thanks!

Hi Fato,
I am fighting with this problem as well since more than 6 month and came up with a solution that works ok for me (even though it would be nice if apple would put their heads together and give their prof customers a professional answer to that problem;))
As i figured out there is only a two way answer to this problem. I am working for customers that distribute files to end customers on pc, mobiles macs and so on.
So i decided to have besides my mac as well a pc standing here and that helped me figuring out the problem.
Version 1: If i export to h264 and distribute the file as is.
Version 2: I make a duplicate. I open it in QT and change the Transparency settings in the property window to "composite" and save the file.
But now comes the Problem: The with "composite" mode saved file plays back perfectly a<s it is supposed to do on your mac (it doesnt matter if the little hook is switched on or not) and even over the web. The problem is that on PCs the colors might be displayed with higher contrast then wanted.
On the other hand the picture on a PC or mobile phone looks fine if i do not do this little change.
In the end i always have to decide for the less evil solution. If the picture on the PC looks just fine and the color shift on a mac browser is only small i will use the unchanged file.
If the picture on the mac browser looks too bad i will use the changed file, giving me a perfect picture on mac and maybe a slight change on the PC.
As i worked with a lot of footage having totally different image (some movies are very light some very dark) i figured that it changes from clip to clip which of the both versions looks better on which platform.
If anybody by today might have figured out a reliable way of how to solve this problem i would be more than thankfull as well
Cheers

I got my ipad2 replaced yesterday. And this new ipad started giving me problem by crashing aps. Then I restored the ipad twice but the problem was still there. I called apple and they fixed it by doing Reset All Settings. But now I have this weird problem. When I open Mail the screen flickers random blue and gray appeared on the screen. I took a video too. Will that happen again? Is it hardware problem? This ipad2 32GB was replaced yesterday and I think it is refurbished. Are replace product refurbished?

There is no way for anyone here to know if your replacement iPad is a refurbished unit.  Per Apple's replacement policy, replacements can be refurbished units.  If you feel the unit is not working correctly, take it back, let them check it out and if found defective, they will replace that unit.

  • Can watching videos too often on Macbook Pro "wear down" the screen?

I watch most of my TV shows on my new macbook pro, and my mother just informed me that if you watch videos too often on a mac, that the screen can apparently wear down and die. Is this true? I'm not sure exactly what she meant by that or what could happen to my computer, but it doesn's sound exactly correct. Thanks!

Back in "the old days" when we all had green letters on black screens like in "War Games" (Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy) there were problems with "burn in" which was caused by the fact that only certain parts of the screen got used because the displays were text only. This is kind of like a prehistoric version of the problem with early plasma displays. Efforts to save CRT screens led to the creation of the ever-popular "Screen saver."
Most moms don't track display technology, so the notion remains that all video monitors are just shinier versions of last century's 15"/50 lb. wonders. Not so. Today's monitors will wear out, but most will be killed by their users long before that. Modern monitors CAN go off in color, loose brilliance, etc. over time  but not specifically from movies.  Notice I said movies, not video. The way we use computers these days, pretty much everything is video.
    Keep calm and surf on.

  • How do i get Firefox to print web pages in black and white only (colors are interpreted in grayscale and some are too light to be read)?

i have a black and white laser printer. Firefox prints web pages by sending color images to my printer. The printer uses greyscale to interpret the colors. i really want Firefox to send black and white images to my printer, because with greyscale some of the colors are translated to print that is too light to be seen clearly.
    Can this be done?

Ps update is 12.0.4 and 12.1, but you are probably missing something, by posting screenshots someone may be able to spot the problem
are you sure which one is actually wrong
do they display identical in both OSes
are both versions of Ps using the same embedded profile, did you confirm that

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

  • How do I print a pdf file that is printing too light to read??

I have a pdf that I must print to buy a home.  It will not print as is. I shot screen shots, brought them into Photoshop, made them jpgs and adjusted the gamma to make them very black and white.
It helped but the pages cannot be read. There is plenty of ink in the printer.
I need to send this paperwork tomorrow with a check...
    WHAT TO DO?

I have this problem as well, prints come too light out of my Brother5370DW and consulted several channels on internet. Printing from pc was never a problem, only from mac: jpgs, tifs, txt, from Preview, Safari, Firefox, Photoshop, Acrobat etc whenever the document it was not full b/w. Especially screenshots from Google maps were just illegible. I just tried to print a pdf with dark grey text, very light as well. Then it ocurred to me to change the color matching profile in the printer's dialogue window: instead of automatic (which is Adobe RGB (1998) by default, I choose Black & White, and finally it prints fine: black what is supposed to be black, idem for dark greys, light greys.

  • HP P1006 printer prints WAY too light.

My HP P1006 printer prints WAY too light.  I installed Win 7  (32-bit), then reinstalled the driver, but there has been no improvement. Changing the print density does nothing!

    Hi Jamesmuir,
You read my mind with your last statement regarding print density; that was my first thought.
Try following the steps in this document - Redistributing the Toner (This document displays the M1212, but the process is the same).
Also, try printing a Supplies Status Page (This Document has Instructions for Windows) - see what your page count is for that toner cartridge. The page yield for the standard cartridge (HP 35A/CB435A) is 1500 pages as per HP Shopping.
Let me know if the redistribution of the toner works or not, and also please post your page count from the supplies status page.

  • Images look too light on new monitor

    Hi,
I hope you can help me. I've been working in CS5.5 on two Dell desktops, using two Dell Ultrasharp monitors. The color was consistent on both. I created files on the newest of the two computers, viewing them on the Ultrasharp 2311 monitor. The files were used to produce both printed and digital books, and everything looked good. Note - I'm not a graphic designer. I never calibrated the monitors or made any adjustments to the settings, either in the system display or in PS.
I just retired the oldest computer and bought a new Dell computer, along with the Ultrasharp 2711 monitor, which has excellent reviews. The files that look fine on my two-year old computer/monitor are too washed out on the new monitor. Dell couldn't figure out the problem and sent me a new monitor, which didn't change anything. The technician at Adobe could see the problem and we played with the settings, but couldn't fix it. If I go to Proof Setup/Monitor RGB it gets closer, but it's still too light. I never made this adjustment on the older monitor.
I KNOW the files produced on the older monitor work, because I've seen the finished printed and digital books. Manipulating the file on the new system isn't the answer. There must be some setting that needs to be adjusted, but neither Dell nor Adobe can help me.
By the way, my older monitor looks fine connected to the new computer, so it's not a computer issue.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks so much,
    Chris

Thanks Peter & Sid. I appreciate the advice, but it doesn't match our experience over 12 years of designing web applications so I'm having trouble understanding what's different, can I ask for any more advice you might have?
If we calibrate the monitor using the recommended tools, will Photoshop images look 2-3 f-stops brighter (i.e. as they should look) and will images in all other apps (which look fine now, have always looked fine) look 2-3 f-stops too bright? Or would we be changing JUST the way Photoshop sees the images?
Through probably a dozen different previous CRT and LCD monitors, we've never calibrated anything. Even on our immediately-previous Samsung 213T monitor, images appear pretty much the same in Photoshop as they do in all other places. That includes published web sites viewed with several popular browsers and viewed on literally hundreds of different systems inside and outside of our office.
The previous monitor was being used with exactly the same software and hardware as the new one. The only thing that's changed is the monitor.
Peter asks about brightness or white point luminance. I haven't used any tool to determine that. The monitor is set to 50% brightness, for whatever that's worth, but I can tell you that it is substantially BRIGHTER on white than the previous monitor. The previous Samsung monitor is being run side-by-side with the new one, and it looks quite dull and yellow beside the new one (and we thought it was a great monitor!) The new 30" Samsung has MUCH whiter whites. Does that help even a little?
    Thanks for any further advice.

  • Will Blurb correct images that are too light or too dark to print nicely?

I have two calibrated monitors and am submitting a book to Blurb. One monitor  is brighter than the other--, that the images look fine on one and too dark on the other. I could changed the brightness, but how do I knwo which is correct for Blurb?what does Blurb see and do they correct images that are all too dark or too light?

Blurb does not correct anything in the uploaded pictures. This is stated clearly on their website; read up under <Color Management>.
It does not matter at all if your image looks fine on the monitor. What matters is if the color numbers of the image are correct. Blurb will print according to the color numbers.
The color numbers of your image will be displayed correctly on the monitor if it is properly calibrated to the industry standard of 6500 K and a gamma 0f 2.2 and if the intensity (brightness) of the monitor is set correctly.
Do this: calibrate both your monitors and set the target value for brightness (intensity) to a value between 100 - 110 cd/m2. This value is considered correct as it will give you prints that match the monitor in brightness.
The best test for checking for how images will look in a blurb book is this: Print the images as sRGB on your own printer. You can do this in two ways:
    a) Export the image as JPG in sRGB in the size it will be printed. You can do this from the Book Module, Re-import it into Lr and print from Lr.
    b) Don't export the image just print from Lr by selecting <Managed by printer> as the profile and set your printer to sRGB.

  • Printing too light from imac - Canon MP210

Have recently bought the Canon MP210 connected it to my imac and the printing is too light, except for iphoto's. Any ideas?

If you make a copy, is the printing dark enough? If it is okay when copying, then you can rule out the print mechanism/machine settings.
So, concentrating on it being related to the printer driver settings, have you tried going to Quality & Media and selecting one of the other print modes?

  • IPhoto books too light and/or inconsistent???

Hello, Has anyone figured out if the general consensus is that the iphoto books are printing light? An order of 30 medium softcover came out light and also inconsistent from book to book. The hardcover seemed not too light and looked better.
What are others experience, as I would like to try a fix and make all the photos slightly darker and perhaps a bit more saturated....
    Any thoughts??
    THANKS!

I too have had this problem. I have ordered about 10 large books in the past and the photos were vivid and really looked pretty good. But the ones I received about 2 weeks ago were grainy and the images were really washed out. Funny thing is that I also ordered some single prints of the same pics used in the album and they are gorgeous and clear (very saturated!!). I realize the printing process is different with the books vs. the prints, but this was a tremendous difference. I did email support and they refunded me my $90.00 within 3 days of my email with no questions asked.
I have been reading a lot of these posts with a lot of suggestions for "tweaking" preferences, etc., but I'm convinced that there is a problem with the Apple printing or the software upgrades because I have not changed my equipment - the only thing that has changed is the version of iphoto I'm using. There is no other explanation for having 10 books look great and the newest ones looking so bad! I really like having the books and I hope Apple will resolve this soon.
So as to your question about making the photos slightly darker.........well, you still run the risk of receiving another bad book.

  • Distorted video - too wide

I have posted about this on Crackberry.com.  But maybe should bring it up here.
The main problem is that when viewing a video on my Z10, images are stretched left to right and so people are wider than normal and also objects like buildings, etc also are too wide.  It is less noticeable in landscape screens.  Upon a suggestion I received today, I opened the same video in the Z10's Browser and the video is NOT distorted.  But I think that the app should work properly.
Here's some extracts from the thread:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-z10-f254/distorted-video-too-wide-849144/
I copied a homemade mp4 file to the z10 of one of my vacation trips (I create a dvd movie from the digital photos). The image is "widened" and frankly I don't need any help in the WIDENING area. It seems to show correctly on my PB and on my computer. But on the Z10 it is wide. Pinch does not HOLD - bounces right back to wide.
There does not seem to be a setting to alter this behavior or appearance. If not connected to the tv, the DISPLAY/hdmi setting is grayed out.
I just created a new video. Since the phone was going downstairs, I copied the mp4 video to the phone. Plugged it into my tv but, once again, the images are distorted - too wide. So the screen is spread left to right and people are too wide. The effect is less noticeable on Scenery but you can see it for buildings and such. And, it is not just on my TV but it is also evident on the Z10, itself. So, the z10 appears to not be displaying the image or video WIDTH correctly.
I then copied the same video to my Playbook (another BB device) and the video is fine and NOT DISTORTED.
I am still on the original Verizon bb10.1.xxxxxxxxxxxx OS.
Any idea if there is a setting on the phone that I am missing.
**bleep**! I had not thought about opening the video in the Browser. You are RIGHT - the video proportions are correct when opened in the Browser. So this is a definite bug in the Video app's software or settings. Of course, one should not have to go into the browser to view videos because the app is BROKEN.
I wonder if Kalemsoft or other video apps performs correctly?
When I first posted the thread, I did not know if it was my desktop software's coding or resolution or .... So I burned off the video in format after format to no avail. I am somewhat surprised that no one else has raised this issue. Maybe I will take it to the official bb forum.

Something else, have you updated the drivers from Apple?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398, is the most recent.
I un-installed the printer driver that I originally downloaded from the Epson website and downloaded the Apple Epson Drivers at the link you gave.
I re-installed the printer and the current driver version was automatically indicated in the "Print & Fax" printer list. But when I went to print, I got an error. Also the Epson Printer Utility 4 could not be accessed, yielding another error message. The printer settings dialogue box in Photoshop even looked like and older Epson version. So, the 1 Gig download didn't help.
I will remove it and re-install the driver from the Epson website. Onward through the fog!
