Video Transition Effect isn't working

It's probably something really basic, but, when I drag a transition to a point between two clips, it only shows over the right clip and when it's dropped by releasing the mouse, the transition pretty much disappears. It may still exist as a single frame transition, but that's all.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Transitions need material from both clips not otherwise in the timeline. If all the media is in the timeline, no transition is possible.

  • Video Transition Effect

I'm trying to add video transition effect at an edit point but not able to add to both edit points, just the end of the first clip and not overlapping two clips. What is keeping me from adding the effect to both points? I've done so in the past. Thanks.

    Hi Edittor,
What kind of settings were you looking for?

  • Video transitions effect all layers

When I add certain video transitions to a track they seem to effect all the tracks beneath it. For instance, if I apply a checkerboard wipe to track 3 it will also do a checkerboard wipe on tracks 1 and 2 also...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    David.

Nope! Nothing selected underneath and it's not what should be happening. Will give you a bit more info...
The programme is a job opportunities slot:
On track one is a white matte.
On track two is our chromakeyed presenter.
On track three is a clip (resized to appx. 25% and rotated 90 degrees)which floats in the white space next to the presenter and provides an area to put up information about the job being discussed.
It is this resized clip that I have tried to introduce using the checkerboard wipe but when I apply it, it checkerboards all three tracks in from black. If I use a cross dissolve or some of the other transitions it works fine..?!
The other annoying thing is that it worked fine in an earlier version of the programme - could it be that this one particular sequence is corrupted somehow?
Have tried the same effect in other projects and it seems to be behaving itself...
Think I may have to pull in the boards that worked from the earlier version of the programme but it's annoying not knowing what's causing it.
    Thanks for your replies,
    David.

  • Video transition effect in FCS 7 needs clip cutting

Working with video transitions in FCS 7 and taking several clips from browser directly to timeline I have to adjust adjoining clips by cutting them to be able to connect them with video transition, dissolve effect. I get a warning that there is not enough space. After cutting off several frames on each side of the clip the effect works fine. If I use the viewer and then overwrite to timeline one clip after another there is no warning.
Is this normal or is it a bug?
    Milan
PS The clips get to the Browser via Log and Transfer from Canon Vixia HF S11

    It may be inexperience.
You need handles to allow for transitions:

  • Transition effect no longer working

    Hello,
I have searched all over, and have found no one to have the same exact issue.
Not so long ago I was editing a movie using multiple camera angles and an audio source from one of the angles.  Did a lot of gradient transitions. Worked amazing.
Fast forward a week later working on new project and the effect no longer works.  I tried everything.  I went back to the original project where it did worked.  The exisiting Gradient Transitions work, but not if I add a new one.  This tell me something may be wrong with the file itself.  Or, an option is not enabled in the program.  Other affects DO work however.
    TL:DR,
Garident Image effect no longet works.  Do I need to reinstall Final Cut Pro X?  Do I need to re-download the transition file?  Where can it be found online?

  • Video transition effects

    Hi,
Suddenly out of no where, when I click on two split video clips that are touching (on the same track), it no longer highlights the area to allow me to apply transitional effects... However, I can right click and it will give me "add cross dissolve".
I don't understand.. It's almost as if any edits after a certain point in the sequence will no longer allow me to select edit points for transitional effects-- But if I go back a few minutes on the time line, I can cut and add all the ones I want.. Is this a bug???
    -patrick

Are you sure the clips are touching? Zoom into the timeline and make sure.
If they are, what happens when you just drag a transition from your transition effects bin and drop it on the cut point? Or what happens when you add a dissolve by right clicking on the cut point?

  • Intel video + desktop effects used to work... now it doesn't.

I'm using kde-mod and I'm not sure what happened, but in the last week or two, desktop effects (compositing) has stopped working, and when I drag windows around, there are artifacts and such now.  It didn't used to be this way and worked quite well before.  I'm using the intel video driver... the card is a fairly recent gmasomethingorother.  I really have no idea what to do next.

Ok I finally figured it out, well sort of. The issue was that the Netgear was screwing up the DHCP. I new it had to be the the Netgear because the setup worked fine at a friends with a Linksys. The strange thing was that iTunes could see other libraries but not connect even though a ping could not. So I turned off the DHCP server and assigned manual IP's to all the clients. Didn't work, I could see the other clients and share files but the internet was lost. Weird. Next I turned DHCP back on and reset the entire network back to my original configuration. Works like a charm. I don't really know what the issue is and the solution doesn't stick, but it can be replicated without fail. Thanks to everyone.

  • Help! My Ipod Video Headphone Jack isn't working!

Hey guys. My Ipod video has starting messing up in the jack so that it doesn't play right in the right ear regardless of what headphones I use. Is this a common problem and any idea how to fix it or how much it costs to fix it and where I go?

The best place to go is an Apple store ,if it is under warranty will no fees.
If do not have an Apple store close to you, go to an authorized dealer.
I think its a minor issue may be the jack connector
    good luck

  • Video Transition: Dissolve disabled

I was trying to use a video transitional effect: Dissolve, which is my favorite. When clicking a "Video Transitions" folder under "Effect," I see Dissolve is highlighted red while all other transitional effects are highlighted in blue. Anyway, I dragged Dissolve to Timeline to apply. But it is not working when I preview. So I was trying to create the same effect by creating a few keys of opacity. It is not working, either. When previewing, the film went on ignoring opacity key frames.... My pc is HP, OS is Vista, 32-bit, 3GB, and Premiere Pro. Any advice or suggestions?

Following Jeff's suggestions, read up on "Handles."
Now, if you *need* to do a Transition, in an area, as Jeff describes in his last paragraph, Dip to Black is the only choice - no Dither Dissolves, no Page Curl, no Cross-Dissolves. Again, the "Handles" info will give you all of the detail that you need, including the do's, the don'ts and the "what will happen if I try it." Premiere will usually even throw an error message, that is explained in detail in the "Handles" section of the manual, though without that reading, you might not be able to make much sense of what it means, but it boils down to "what Jeff said."
    Hunt
PS this is an often misunderstood, or overlooked aspect of NLE work. With film, it was a lot easier to grasp, 'cause you could actually see the frames on your A-roll and your B-roll and where the black leader was spliced to each. With digital, while it's MUCH easier to do, it's not as visually graphic and people just miss the concept. Once you read about it and think about it, it'll become patently clear.

  • I'm having a problem in FCP7 with all video transitions. Every transition has a rolling flicker throughout the effect. What is causing this?

I recently upgraded to FCP7 from FCP6. I am now having an issue in playback with all video transitions. When I add a transition to my video it does not consistently play smoothly. I now appears to have an old "film" like flicker rolling through the effect. Our video was shot on a dslr and brought into FCP with compressor as a prores 422 file. We use magic bullet for our coloring effects which are in place on this video. When I was working on the project in FCP6 I did not have this problem. When the project was complete we upgraded to FCP7. The client has now come back to us wanting additional footage. So I opened the old project up into FCP7 and checked yes to all format updates to meet with FCP7 guidelines. So far this is the only problem I've encountered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello!
For me it looks like conflict with field order (upper, lower - interlaced).
Please, check Your sequence settings, maybe it should be set to "field order NONE" if Your source is progressive.
    Next thing You could check:
in Your timeline with bad transitions look into "Effecs tab" - maybe FCP 7 added "shift field filter +/-1" after opening FCP 6 project.
In general - try to keep sequence settings same as source settings.

  • Adding video transitions using Multicam in Premiere CC not working

Just tried to a video transition to a Multicam timeline between a camera switch and it does add the transition in the timeline but only plays back as a cut as if no transition was applied. Also, using the shortcut CTRL D doesn't add the transition but does it show up in the history that it applied a transition.
I used a Dissolve transition and it shows the video dissolving between the 2 video source in the transition Effects Control window, just doesn't work in the timeline when playing it back. Rendering the timeline doesn't work either,  still a cut transition.
Actually, just tried the CTRL D shortcut and it is now working.
Now the transition shows up when going to the Export menu and looking at the video in the Preview window and when exported the dissolve is there so the only problem is that the video transitions can't be seen when playing from the timeline.
Decided to close down Premiere, restart it and reload the project and now the transition works in the timeline.
Actually, here what happens. You can't see transitions when the Program monitor is in Multicam mode, you need to switch is back to Composite mode then the transition will preview when playing from the timeline. Now I just checked and you can scrub through the transition and see it when the Program monitor is in the Multicam mode.

  • Looking for a list of Video Transitions(not effects)

Hello, I'd really like to find a list of Transitions similar to this list so that I can print and study it. Make note, etc. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent. While this one implies that it deals with Transitions it really only has the transitions effects pieces. There are  some 50+ actual transitions that are available in all the folders. I'd think there would be some references to these in the help system, but right now I am unable to find them.
    Thanks!

Hi Ann  Thanks for that. I did come across that list too. There is a wiki site started also that has bugn to show how each works too. That's what I'd love to create for the entire list with a thumbnail as a visual   When I have time!

  • My Music Video isn't working, and now my Ipod isn't recognized

Last night I tried to play a video that I purchased from iTunes and my Ipod froze for about a minute and then went back to the list of videos (screen). Today I tried to plug it in to my computer to see if I would experience the same thing in iTunes, and a message comes up saying that "the USB device is not recognized". I uninstalled both the iPod Software and the iTunes software, and then reinstalled them both from the apple site (for the latest versions). My iPod is still not recognized but for some reason it Now charges (nothing happened before).
I've restarted my computer a few times, and restarted the iPod serveral times also.
Other videos work fine, just not my music video (and now not my iPod).
Is there anything I can do short of erasing all my songs and re-starting from scratch?
    Please, anybody?

Does anybody at least know why my music video isn't working? I have other videos on the iPod and they work perfectly.
