Video Transitions in Photoshop CS6

Is it possible to add more video transitions (additional to the existing fade transitions) to Photoshop CS6?

We don't have these effects available as drag-and-drop transitions.  This could be submitted as a feature request.  There are, however, some workarounds if you don't mind going through the steps:
1.) Wipe: Add a layer mask to the video file, fill the mask with black, unlink the mask, then add Layer Mask Position keyframes to move the layer mask across the video in time (you'll have to have a second clip positioned on a separate track and overlapping in time to get the effect).  Add a small feather to the mask in the properties panel to taste (you may want to transform the mask, make sure it's unlinked first, to make it a little larger than the image area if you add feathering).
Diagonal wipes are bit trickier: Follow the same steps above but fill only half the mask with black (on a diagonal, polygon lasso can help with this) and you also need a mask that's larger than the image area so you can pan across (use free transform, make sure the mask is unlinked).
Shape Wipes: I believe this is impossible to do easily, because you would need to transform (scale) the layer mask across time, and this isn't available for layer masks (another feature request if you'd like).  Technically you could still pull this off, but you would need to synchronize several different layers/layer masks across time and modify each one so that it forms part of the star shape.  That's the only way I can think of currently, if you want something like a star wipe...
2.) Blur: There's a few different ways you could do this.  Hardest and most accurate: individually blur each frame by incremental amounts (automate for convenience with an action or script).  Different but similar effect: Copy the video, convert the copy to a smart object and place directly below the original on a separate track/video group.  Blur the smart object (applies to all frames) and then use opacity keyframes on the original (unblurred) video layer to transition between the two.
3.) Lens Flare: Same steps/suggestions as blur, except replace the blur filter with lens flare filter.

  • Problems opening video files in Photoshop CS6

I appear to be unable to open any kind of video file in Photoshop CS6, I always get the error message "could not complete your request because it is  not the right type of document".
I have noticed, however, that a couple of things seem to be different from all the video tutorials that are out there, e.g:
      1.  The Timeline dosen't seem to give me the option to open a file from it and appears to be a timeline for animation only (see image below)
      2.  The Mini Bridge dosen't show the movie files, e.g. on my desktop I have three different movie files (AVI, MP4 & MOV) and as you can see none appear (see image below)

    Thanks for your reply Pete.
When I have a picture open the Timeline dosen't seem to have the "convert to video timeline" button you mentioned (see image below)

  • Video tutorial for Photoshop CS6 3d

I have been fighting and struggling for at least two weeks trying to find decent video tutorials for Photoshop CS6 3d. Does no one use it? is there nothing out there. The stuff I have found is either incomplete or the sites don't work or function properly. It's driving me crazy and that's being generous.
Let's face it. If I can't use it I'll have to move on to some other software solution.

Photoshop CS6 does basic video editing you need Adobe Premier Pro

Or are you referring to a tutorial for Photoshop CS6 Extended 3d support and the you would prefer a video tutorial???

I am removing a dust spot from video clips taken during an aerial shoot. I have discovered that the only effective way to remove these spots effectively is to use PS6 and go frame by frame using the paint brush, clone stamp, and spot healing brush. It is very time consuming and mind numbing but the only thing that works with all tha movement of the aircraft and the ground below.
    My question:
Right now to advance the clip one frame at a time - I must magnify the time line so to see the frame by frame lables. To advance to the next frame I must remove my cursor from the work area and go down to the time line and click on the next frame.
How can I advance to the next frame with a keyboard stroke and not move my cursor out of the work area?
Thank you in advance for any help.

  • Missing video transitions in Premiere CS6

    Greeting everyone,
It seems that I am missing some 3D motion transition effects in Premiere CS6. I only have Cube Spin and Flip Over, but I know (and have seen) more transitions on other people's installations. I can't seem to find anywhere to download them either. I assumed they came with base CS6, but I don't have them. Where can I download some more? Or how do I restore the ones that I should have?

  • Terrible Video Playback in Photoshop CS6

I'm working on a computer that is more than fast enough to play 1080P video from DSLR. Specs are Intel Quad Core Q9550 @ 2.83Ghz, 6 Gigs of DDR2 800 RAM, Quadro 2000 GPU, and RAID 0 7200rpm scratch drives. Photoshop has 4 gigs of RAM dedicated to it and GPU acceleration is turned on. When I open up a video recorded from my Canon 60D that consists of 1080P video at 30fps, I can not get playback to be better than 17fps. It is terrible and I have no idea why this is happening. Last night I installed all available updates for CS6, updated to windows 8.1 and did a clean install on my GPU driver from nVidia for windows 8.1 64bit. STILL terrible playback. As soon as I add an adjustment layer to the video, it drops to 4fps. What is happening. I don't think these videos should be playing back this slowly. If I watch them in another stand alone player, the frame rate is perfect.

I don't think these videos should be playing back this slowly.
But then again, PS is not a video editing app like Premiere, is it not? Not to dismiss your point, but expecting things to be realtime in PS is a bit optimistic, even more so once you add effects and adjustments. It simply isn't meant for this. Actualyl processing video is different from just playing it back and whatever evil combination of circumstances prevents RT playback on your system is probably not something that can be fixed or at least not easily. As a start you might wanna run some system monitoring tool to detect potential bottlenecks and e.g. try different screen resolutions, turn off color management and so on - anything that may contribute to consuming processing resources, even if not in an obvious, conscious way. Also check the storage location of the video. While it may have enough I/O speed for buffered playback, it may not be sufficient for directly playing the footage in PS...

  • Video editing in photoshop cs6

    Hello
I imported the video in psd cs6 version but it gave me error msg telling the request cannot be completed as the dynamic path is not available...Anyone know what to do

Without system information and other details like what specific footage files nobody can say much. in any case, the DynamicLink Media Server not being avialable means it is being blocked or did not launch, which is a system problem.

  • How do I change effects in 'Altered Video' timeline in Photoshop CS6?

I added a filter to my video but it only lasts for a few frames. There are little marks shown where I added it in the Altered Video section of the timeline.
How do I apply a filter or effect to the entire clip?
Also when I ad a filter such as Lens Correction, it only lasts for a few frames..How do I get it to remain?

I was going to Move that thread for you, but could not get it to go to Photoshop General Discussion - that option was grayed out.
Maybe Pierre, who Replied in that thread, will have more access, and can accommodate you.

  • I used to be able open video files in Photoshop CS6. When I try to open it now it says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

I don't know what I did. I started messing around with After Effects and accidentally opened up Adobe Media Encoder Queue. After that, that's when I noticed the problem. I can still import the video frames into layers but I can't open it up directly. I tried opening .avi, .mkv, and .wmv files. Also just noticed I'm missing the "change timeline view into video view" button.  Any help will be appreciated! Thanks.

You either borked your hardware acceleration stuff by changing graphics settings/ installing a different driver or you messed up your CoDecs (and the associated hardware acceleration options) by installing a Codec pack or alternate media player... Impossible to be more specific, since you haven't bothered to provide even the most basic system info.

  • How do I apply a filter or Rubber Stamp to an entire video clip in Photoshop CS6?

I see if I apply and adjustment layer, it works for the whole clip but any filter outside of that or rubber stamp only lasts for a few frames. How do I apply them to the entire clip?

Seems like converting the layer to a Smart Object sort of works but once I do I can't play the footage

  • Photoshop CS6 Video - how to Apply Many Transitions Efficiently ?

Hello, i edit lots of software video tutorials inside Photoshop CS6 and overlay the videos with lots of red circles and keyboard keys. All these overlays need a short fade-in and fade-out. How can i apply these fade-ins and fade-outs more efficiently?
So far i only can do like this:
    - If have to drag every single fade-in and every single fade-out to every single object, these are two actions per object. I believe there is no keyboard command for this and also i cannot create my own keyboard command here.
    - Often i *copy* an object with Ctrl-J which already *has* the fade-in and fade-out. But the newly *copied object* does *not* sport the fade-in and fade-out; so i have to apply those manually again.
Is there any way to speed up the procedure of applying transitions? (Bulk-apply transitions? Keyboard ways?)
I already tried to activate the special time-frame keyboard commands. But i believe it doesn't help with the task i described (applying transitions). What's more, with special time-frame keyboard commands active, the arrow keys get new tasks then; but i need the arrow keys for *regular* keyboard commands in connection with the move tool (to precisely move the overlay objects to their desired position).
    Any hints would be great!
    More generally:
If you know any *advanced* tutorials on video in Photoshop CS6 (written or video), i would be interested. I am very familiar with general Photoshop including general video there. I don't need any introduction.
I have also tried to do my tasks in Premiere Pro CS6, but found it a bit overwhelming and went back to edit the video tuts in Photoshop. Even though after some getting-used-to-it, Premiere might be better for me. I *do* have to import lots of smart-objects and vector-objects with transparency from Photoshop all the time, and Photoshop is my natural habitat.
    Thanks for all suggestions!

The long and short answer is that you are using the wrong tool, but since you already tried Premiere and were "overwhelmed", well, I guess that settles that. Seems to me you have locked yourself into a corner by habitually using PS for everything, no matter how awkward. It would really be easy to export all your graphics to separate files, import them in Premiere, build a prototype project and then save everything as presets. The same would be true for After Effects. In fact you could probably create a lot of stuff even natively in both programs using the titler tool or effects... Also what you describe is exactly what tools like Camtasia Studio also do automatically based on the mouse and keyboard data recorded during the session. I know it's not what you wanna hear, but it seems to me you are really using the wrong set of tools... As for solutions in PS - perhaps there's a way to get the edit points with scripting and then apply transitions automatically, but that's most likely as good as it gets...

  • Photoshop CS6 extended won't import videos, help please?

Before I get to the meat and potatoes (details), I'd like to ask that you don't be an @$$ with your answers, please, if my friend is doing something wrong, don't just say "well, derp, you're doing something wrong", actually tell me what he's doing wrong so I can tell him and he can fix the issue. He'd post but he's having internet issues as of 10 minutes ago.
My friend got Photoshop CS6 extended so he could do a few things with his photos, he also wanted to try out some of the stuff with the video editing, and since it's the extended version, it should (at least in theory) import video, right? Wrong, no matter what format he converts to he gets an error telling him he's using the right kind of document. I have seen the photoshop video editor, my friend has seen the video editor, but we can't get it on his copy of photoshop because he can't get a video to import no matter what format he converts to. Is there a way to fix this or has the promise of video editing in the extended version of photoshop just been a lie? I'm confused, please help.
    FORMATS TRIED:
    .3gp
    .3g2
    .avi
    .asf
    .DV
    .mkv
    .mpg (mpeg1 and mpeg2)
    .mp4
    .mov
    .mts
    .m2ts
    .ts
    webM format
    .wmv
NONE OF THESE FORMATS WORK FOR VIDEO EDITING IN PHOTOSHOP CS6 EXTENDED. He can use it for photo but he really wants to try the video editor since he doesn't like movie maker and he can't afford any other video editing software right now.

To see if there is something deeper see if the video plays in Bridge.

  • How to extend the video timeline duration  in Photoshop CS6

I’m trying to make a  3D  text video intro in Photoshop CS6. It seems like the default time line  is only 10 seconds long. Is there any way to extend the duration of the time line?

Thank you for your reply.  However I’m not sure that will help.
Here is what I am doing. I have 3 3D objects merged together. I 3D background and 2 text objects. I want to animated the 2 text objects. However I need more then 10 seconds to animate it the way I want to.
I have tried adding more objects but the time line does not extend the duration of the time line.
CS 5 had an option to set the time line.
