Video Troubles

I just recently acquired a 60GB video iPod, and its wonderful I love it. The only problem is, i've bought a few videos and music videos of the iTunes store, but my iPod will not play the videos even after transferring them onto the iPod. When I go to the options for my iPod, I can't select anything under the "Video" slot, and every troubleshoot i've read says I should be able to choose the option of automatically updating videos or not, but I can't choose anything. It's as though iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod as a Video iPod. I need help, please!!!

Macworld 2006 video troubles?!

I just upgraded to 7.04 and when I try to play video the audio and video is very glitchy. The audio hardly comes in! Please help!

I am having the same difficulty, only it is not just the current 'special' event that won't play, but anything from the apple special events section of the quicktime website. Oddly, movie trailers play fine.
Anyone know what gives?
Quicktime player reports either

Mini-Dvi-to-Video trouble

I just bought a mini-dvi-to-video adapter so I could use my TV as a display. More specifically, so I could use my VCR to record what's on my Mac's display. I also bought a headphone-to-composite cable adapter. I'm using a double-headed (is that one male or female? It's male, isn't it?) composite cable from the video adapter to the VCR. The problem is, it doesn't show up. The sound plays (and records) fine, but the video neither shows up on the TV screen nor records onto the tape. What's the problem? Both adapters are Dynex, my computer's a Late 2006 iMac (I think), the cable is WireLogic, and both the VCR and TV are Sony. Please help, thanks.

So if you eliminate the double headed splitter and plug straight into the TV, does the video still not show up?
FYI, there have been reports in the past of trouble with the Dynex video adapter. You may need to purchase the Apple OEM one. The Dynex may lack having a ROM inside of it with a proper EDID in the ROM. This is crucial to the Mac.

Streaming videos trouble

Hello guys how are you?
When im try to see a streaming video in a site like youtube, my video stops and only the sound works,when the video start in 0~1 sec aproximatelly.. this issue occurs for only 1sec, but its too boring...
Somebody know if it is a flash problem??

this happens to me when I'm also running video from VLC. Do you have other media open while streaming? try trouble shooting by restarting your computer, uncheck reopen windows and just open safari or whichever browser you're using and try playing it then. (or just close everything but your browser and try).
also did you update to 10.7.1 yet?
Message was edited by: TheSmokeMonster: after re-reading what you wrote, this could be a connection issue, sounds like your video is loading. you could try reinstalling flash player but I don't think that's your issue here, your video is just loading/buffering...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and some details, I did a fair amount of reading on this already. I set my QT streaming speeed for a cable settign (as did my GF) and we both set our routers to enable UPnP. Our firewalls are down (on router too), and we are still having trouble. This is frustrating since it was working about a week ago. Also we tried setting our iChat ports to 443 when the default is 5190. Still no luck.

Can you tell us what IP your computer gets from each device ?
(System Preferens > Network > connection method > TCP/IP tab)
Which ones have you opened ports for iChat in ?

Music Video Troubles

Alright, I've been having trouble getting these two music video's I have onto my Ipod Nano.
Is this even possible? I thought for sure it was. Every time I apply my new settings, they don't come up anywhere. When I'm trying to add them and other tracks, the music adds, but not the music video's.
Can I even play them on a Nano?
Why is this happening and what do I do?

The ipod nano does not have the capability to play video content of any kind. THere is a playlist on the itunes that is for music videos that shows up in the ipod nano but video content cannot be synced to the ipod nano. Videos can only be played on the 5th gen ipod with video playback. That would be the larger ipods.

Extended desktop video troubles

I have a 20" imac with a 24" extended desktop and I am loving it. There's just one thing that is very annoying. I got the second monitor because I like to watch videos while I write and search the web. but most of the video sites I go to won't stay in full screen when I click the mouse. So I'm forced to watch videos that take up only 1/4 of the screen. On many sites I can zoom into the website, but this often creates a jittery, blockiness that isn't there when the video is set to full screen.
So my question is, how can I get my browser to not jump out of fullscreen when I use the other monitor? Is there a certain browser that has that kind of option? Is there an app for my computer that will let me do that? Do I not understand something fundamental about changing video settings? Or am I completely out of luck?
I'm having this problem on sites like youtube, all the network sites, megavideo wisevid,dailymotion, zshare,ninjavideo, etc etc. Pretty much the only site that I don't have the problem with is Hulu, of which I can either use Hulu Desktop or I can pop the video out and then expand it to the size of my screen.
So I guess another question is, if I can't do something that would uniformly fix the problem for all the sites, are there any more programs like Hulu Desktop (besides netflix) that are ideal for watching on an extended desktop?

And there's one more question I was hoping to get answered that I forgot to mention.
Is there a way to dim one screen to black while the other continues to play a video? I know that frontrow does it automatically, and quicktime and vlc both do it, but I would like to be able to do it easily on my own command--maybe with quicksilver (i'm not using the program yet but plan to get used to it).

Print to Video Trouble (Pictures Shatter)

Hi,
I am really out of ideas. for months now after editing my programme on Final cut pro 5, when I want to master back to tape using the 'Print to video' option, it starts well. After some minuites into the mastering process, the whole screen will shatter for a second or two and then, the pictures on my master and my computer will become out of sync with each other. This happens at times twice over a 26mins programme. its really iriitating and this shattering of screen goes into the master tape version. Any suggestions Please?
I will really appreciate it as I am desperate to resolve this.

I know how frustrating it is to have difficulty outputting.
I don't know what specifically is causing issues, but one thing I have tried in the past is...
Highlight the timeline.
Option - X (this clears ins and outs)
Command-Shift A (this de-selects everything)
File>Export>Quicktime Movie...
Choose Current settings and check "Make movie self-contained" (this makes you movie into one Quicktime file - it also takes up a bit of disk space)
Name your file and navigate to where you want to save it (I usually place it on the desktop temporarily, but you may have an organization structure that you follow.)
Save.
When it is done, import that file (Command-I) into your project.
Create a new sequence.
Drop your newly imported movie into the sequence.
Then print that to tape.
If that doesn't work, I suggest you provide more background about your set-up. For instance, what format you are exporting, what kind of tape deck, how much ram in your computer, how full your media drive is, etc. One of these things is probably the real culprit. My technique is treating the symptom, not the disease.

Dual monitor trouble/video trouble

I have a 2010-version Mac Pro (model 5,1) (purchased early 2012) with the stock 5770 video card running identical HP LP2275W monitors by the Displayport connectors.
No recent changes in hardware, OS or software.
Suddenly, the "secondary" monitor is going black, going to sleep and then waking up every few minute or so. When it goes black, all icons and such move to the left monitor just as if I only had a single monitor system, then return to the secondary monitor when it comes back on by itself.
I've jiggled video cables, run Tech Tool Pro, did some dusting in the Mac Pro and so on but no cure.
1. Video card going bad?
2. Could I use the DVI connector on the card to see if the second monitor works properly or do I have to use both DP cables for two monitors to work?
3. Motherboard issue?
4. Genius Bar appointment this week?

I changed the second monitor to DVI with an old cable I had laying around and the issue seems resolved (nothing for the past 45 minutes, at least). That could still be either be a bad Displayport cable or intrinsic problem with the video card.
Any idea how likely it is that only one port on a video card would go bad? I'm tempted to look for another/backup video card since I'm planning to keep this computer for another few years, if possible.

Green videos, trouble shooting not working.

My flash videos on FB are green. Advice is to open settings control window and go to display settings; then disable accellerators. When I open the settings window, I have no display settings tab, only settings for privacy,security, storage, etc. How do I get display settings, or how else can I get my videos working on FB? I have a PC with windows 8 and using internet explorer. I have followed all the troubleshooting. I have made sure adobe is installed and enabled, I have made sure shockwave is enabled in manage add ons, I have made sure active X controls are shut off, I have made sure that windows was updated for my version of adobe. I have also asked this question 2 times already, only to have it disappear so I hope this one gets posted and I apologize if it's a repeat.

Quicktime Video trouble

Everytime I try to play a movie trailer, video game clip, etc with Quicktime ver. 7.0.3. through the internet (Firefox, IE, etc.) the video comes out very unclear and the bottom half of the video has green and blue streaks while the top half has the video playing. Any clue as to why this happens?

First, make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta mode. To check, go to the Finder. There open the Applications folder. Single-click on Safari.app, then Command + I keys to open the Info panel. There is a box for Rosetta. If it is checked, uncheck it. Then restart Safari and try a video.
If the above doesn't apply, then open Safari. Safari Preferences>Security. Make sure the Plug-in box is selected in the WebContent section.
If that is correct, then go to System Preferences>QuickTime>Advanced panel. There, enable Flash ought to be selected. Also, Mime Settings>Miscellaneous. Only Quicktime HTML ought to be checked. Deselect anything else in the Misc. section. Close the panel. Then restart Safari.

Video troubles: iChatAV 3.1, Netgear WGR614v5

Howdy folks-
I'd be obliged if you could help me with what I see is a common problem, the "did not respond" error (error message pasted at the bottom). When I am using my home network I can connect with the Apple testers sporadically, and can not connect with PC users, though I do just fine connecting with anyone when using the wireless at my university.
I am using the netgear router found in the subject line with the latest firmware. I have tried using UPnP (toggling twice) to no avail, and have also tried port triggering (and way back in August, port forwarding). I am not using the Mac firewall. As of now, I have port triggering set up as follows:

Any suggestions from folks out there? I have seen Defcom suggest turning UPnP on (which I have tried) AND turning on the Mac firewall (which I have not). Could this be my problem? It is hard for me to see how that would help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions
The settings are correct.
If the Invite is seen then the error log indicates it is not getting past port 5060 or more exact it is getting stuck at this point and possibly indicates that the port is not open.
Now where it is not open may be at the ISP level or something to do with any VoIP equipment you have.

Video Trouble-Won't encode .mp4's to Ipod

I just bought Quicktime 7 pro for 1 purpose only, to encode movie formats into a format that Ipod can understand. However when I open a .mp4 movie into Quicktime 7 pro and click export into Ipod format, the application starts normal and then EVERYTIME it hits 8% complete the application stalls out? What's going on? The movie will play fully in quicktime 7, so there is no data flaws on my end, how do I fix this - or get my money back?

H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
You may have to either adjust the dimensions or lower the data rates to get your .mp4 file to the iPod video settings.

IPOD nano and video troubles

I am about to scream : )
I bought my wife an new 4g nano for her birthday. I spent about 5 hours loading music into iTunes. Hooked up the nano and it worked just fine. I then recieved my 30g video ipod 2 days ago. Both worked just fine and I loaded the same music (library) onto both (10-12-05 install). I wanted to then load some video clips for work and found out about the new H.264 codec and reluctantly upgraded quicktime to pro so that I could convert my .mov files to ipod .mov files. After attempting to upoload the video is basically when my grief started. I have spent over 12 hours installing, uninstalling, rebooting, deleting registry settings, setting processes to auto....pretty much anything found in these forums. So basically i had them both working and now the 30g shows up as a disk, but is not recognized in iTunes. The pod just seems to freeze and I can't even resotre it to factory since the updater/restore freezes!! I even downloaded the new software on my laptop to try a restore on a different system to no avail. As a last check, after all the re-installations etc, my wifes nano still connects and shows up fine in itunes and i can add or dlete files. Anyone know why this situation could be causing a problem. Yes, I even tried to assigne a different drive letter. What should I do..return it? BTW, I can still turn it on and the original music I uploaded is there and still works.

I found my issue (after 18 straight hours of trying everything found on the boards here) by comparing my 4g nano and my 30g video ipod when they were both connected at the same time. The nano has never had a problem and works great. The 30g has all kinds of problems..worked great for a few days, then i upgraded to quicktime pro and tryed to upload a video and thinngs went south from there. Briefly, with both hooked up and itunes no longer recognizing the 30g (but windows showing it as a recognized device) I compared them by using the "manage" selection (right click my computer) and then going to Disk management. By comparing the 2 ipods, the nano showed it had a 4G FAT32 format where as the 30g showed it was not formated at all! I opted to wipe it and use a quick FAT32 format. Previously I could not even restore the factory settings with the ipod update utility because it would simply freeze. At this point the utility did not freeze and it allowed me to restore. The first time I did this, itunes recognized my ipod and I figured to test it by loading a small video file. Windows gave me some kind of cryptic error about a "read/write failure and all data being lost" and after this occured the ipod would not be recognized by itunes. Back to disk management and it showed that the 30g table was once again unformatted. I have no idea how this would occur without me selecting to wipe the drive somehow. I repeated all the above steps again (formatted) and at this point have uploaded about 2G of music and 1 movie and have not had any further issues. Something is apparently very wrong and although it is working at the moment, I don't have a ton of confidence in this product at the moment. It took about 18 hours of messing with it and alot of frustration. I really like this thing when it works, but this is ridiculous. Does apple even bother to test this stuff on a PC!! Anyway, hope that helps some of you. Judging from the number of issues here (all sounding the same) hopefully it can be determnined what exactly is causing these issues.

Ipad video troubles

I tried converting my video files on pc to the right format and it couldnt work, so i transfered it to my ipad anyway. And it could not open since it wasnt the right format. I really need to edit these videos with imovie but its not the right format, and i need an answer quick or else. Any other help other than HAVING ME TO PAY AN FOR SOME BASIC HELP LIKE APPLE CARE!?
