Video webcams + 466 clamshell = ?

Hello
I am looking for a webcam compatible with ichat 2.1 on a 466 clamshell.
Is there anybody here with hands-on experience setting up either a firewire or USB solution for the lowly clamshell? I know this software is available for USB, and that it may run on a 466 [http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam>, but I am looking for camera recommendations too. I do not crave anything high-quality, just something that works.
thanks!

I've found the Logitech quickcam pro works well on my old ibook. Its made for laptops, but the clamp it uses to attach to the screen works well with the clamshell. It doesn't fasten to my tibook nearly as well.

  • How to turn on video webcam?

How do I turn on the video webcam on skype?

Can you see your camera video feed under "Tools" - "Options" - "Video Settings"? If Skype does not detect  your camera, then you will not be able to use it.  If you are using a processor that is not fully Pentium 4 compatible (like AMD socket/slot A processors), your video will not be detected in Skype though it may work elsewhere.

  • No firewire video on 466 ibook with panther 10.3.9

HI, I asked this over in the ibook(colors) discussion, but then I got to thinking it's almost for sure an OS problem so hopefully someone here might have dealt with this.
Ok, here's my problem,my ibook 466 SE won't see the video from my Sony camcorder in 10.3.9.
If I boot the iBook to OS9, my it sees the camera fine in iMovie.
In 10.3.9 my iBook shows the camera in system profiler as the correct Sony DCR-TVR480 camcorder.
No video capture program in 10.3.9 will see it.
I know the camcorder works, because my iMac (also 10.3.9) sees it just fine.
Any thoughts? Do Panther and Clamshells not play well together? Some setting I've missed?
When I installed Panther I did not install iMovie at that time (since it does not work on a clamshell), did it not install drivers or something? I have since installed iMovie 3, and it hasn't changed anything.

I'm sorry. I've inadvertently given you the wrong link. Try resetting the PMU instead of Safe Mode. Safe Mode never hurts (it repairs errors on your hard drive), but I doubt it will help a keyboard problem.
Have you tried using a USB keyboard with it to see if that works?

  • How to make vertical flip of video webcam.

I am using logitech webcam, i can show video and take piture well.
Now i want to make vertical flip of video.
They can do it ? If you have any experience, please help me.
    Thanks.
    Diego

Well, I really see 2 avenues you can go down...
The "proper" way to do it would be to create a custom "effect" that would flip the video frames inside the processor. You'd want to base this off the following example code:
The "easy" way to do it would be to render the graphics yourself. You would just essentially need to create a class that implements the "VideoRender" interface (probably extending a JPanel implementing VideoRenderer), and use the BufferToImage class inside the "process" function to convert the inputted buffer object into a BufferedImage, which you would then render to the JPanel upside down... This probably sounds more complicated than it is, however... Process gives you a frame as a buffer, you use a utility to convert the buffer to an image, and then you draw the image to the screen. Quite a simple procedure, really...

  • HD Video Webcam for mac?

    Hey!
I am looking for a quality HD or even FULL HD webcam that captures smooth video on my MacBook pro. This cam is used to do some video recording of my dj sessions for friends and colleagues. Sound is taken from a high end sound interface (Apogee Duet).
    Looks like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQSp7XsYLfA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pjShLiHMWs
I was told that Logitech webcams like the full HD C910 cannot work together with my Mac OS X (driver not exist). Is that right?
What other choice do I have to record better quality HD movie via webcam?
    Thanks!
    bye

Logitech webcams work just fine on the Mac, though some of the included "special effects" software is Windows-only. We have two in operation at our house and they were completely "plug and play" for Skype, Photobooth and iChat programs.
See a recent review of the C910 at the iLounge website (www.ilounge.com) earlier this week. They were impressed by the video quality.

  • Video (Webcams) in java

I'm trying to build a cross platform 'video recorder'. Using a webcam or video capture deviCAn anyone tell me if there is a wace in java. I would usually use 'video for windows' but for obvious reasons i can't. can anyone tell me how this could be done in java

    Hi,
You can try a package named: JTwain, which is available at http://asprise.com/product/jtwain.
JTwain supports all kinds of digital cameras and scanners. You can use Java to access, contorl digital cameras and scanners, and of course, to acquire images with flexible settings.
The developers' guide is available @ http://asprise.com/product/jtwain/devGuide.php
In the simplest case, one line of Java code can solve your problem.
    Good luck!

    (19:14:54) Conference error
(19:14:54) The call has been terminated.
I thought this error was related with my old webcam (that camera had problems with several software) but I have now a new Microsoft camera (VX-800) that works in almost all apps, is detected by Skype and Flash inmediately but that pidgin error is the same. It is important to say I'm using ArchLinux with XFCE4.
    I've installed gnome-media, farsight2, enable "Voice/Video settings plugin", setted gstreamer-properties.
    Does anybody knows something?
    Thank you.

  • AFP 11 bug - streaming video (webcam)

    Hi,
I've updated flash player to the newest version (11), and I'm experiencing some problems with video broadcasting to websites like justin.tv or chatroulette.
The bug: when broadcasting a screen recording, or my real webcam sometimes it jumps back to earlier frame for about half a second. It's hard to explain so I made a little video:
I've created an example video with a timecode, and broadcasted it to a website, which uses adobe flash player 11:
(In the left you can see the original video, displayed in broadcasting software's preview window; and in the right, website previews my broadcast. The parts where bug appears are in slow motion, so you could see the timecode "jumping" to previous frame)
I wouldn't mind if this bug happened only in preview window, but the flash player broadcasts a buggy video, so the viewers also see this bug.
This bug did not happened in Adobe Flash Player 10, but I tried all the subversions of 11 and all of them had this bug.
I'm using windows 7, firefox. This also happens on IE 7.
P.S. In the video above, this bug happens few times in a minute, but when I use my real webcam (and I'm moving the camera or I'm moving myself) this bug happens a lot more times.

Thanks, it works in the new beta version.
However I got another problem, which is related to this one, so I'll post it here:
I don't know if this is flash player's bug or my hardware's problem, but I get horizontal lines over the video if I move camera a bit or I'm broadcasting something moving (just like this bug), so I also made a little video:
(video is in slow motion again so you could see the actual problem)
It might be my hardware's problem, because at first I didn't had it (~3 months ago), but then I had to reinstall windows, and I've had installed flash player, and this problem occured. I tried flash players 9,10,11 and all of them had this (but not before I reinstalled windows).
However when I'm on chatroulette, the other person's video doesn't have these lines, but mine does (it seems that something is wrong with streaming).
Maybe anybody knows fix for this?

  • HP Mediasmart Video, photo & webcam

HP MediaSmart Photos, Videos & webcam is not working on my "pavilion dv6-3121 nr", even when I have reinstalled these number of times. I'm new to this, earlier it was working. Please help !!!

Well there is no on or off switch for the built in webcam, first thing would be to see if the webcam is recognized in Device Manager.  Take a look at Fixing Webcam Problems (Windows Vista) and scroll down to the section called There is no webcam listed in Device Manager, and follow the steps to check Device Manager for a Webcam entry, post the results.

  • Camera Graininess (video noise) on the iSight

Help- I have some really bad camera noise on the iSight and it seems to be in every application (iMovie, Quicktime, iChat). I'm wondering if my iSight is broken, or I'm doing something wrong?
I took a screen shot of it, with all the lights in the room on. It was very bright, and I'm still getting a lot of camera noise. help!

    Hello Fausto Fernos1
What application did you use to capture and enlarge this image? Your full-sized image is 991x736 pixels. iSight's native resolution is 640x480. Any camera noise is exaggerated when you enlarge the image beyond the native resolution.
Considering the size of the webcam image you have made and the quality of your lighting, your picture does not look "really bad" to me. However, if you want higher quality images, consider using a compatible Firewire camcorder for your video webcam needs. Most 2MP or higher digital still cameras will deliver better still images than any webcam.
If you want to try for better quality than this with your external iSight, try making another image when you can use daylight to illuminate your location. As explained in Use good lighting for the best iSight picture, the KIND of light you use is as important as the AMOUNT.
For some other suggestions, consider the suggestions in Improving Your iSight's Picture.
If you want other ideas, consider the How to test your (external) iSight to ensure it is functional suggestions for taking your iSight to a different location or a different Mac to see if the image quality is the same.
Finally, operating temperature can also effect camera noise. If your location is unusually (uncomfortably) hot, or if your iSight's air vents have been blocked so its temperature has risen, consider a cooler environment or unplugging your iSight for an hour to let it cool before repeating your tests. If your location is subject to atmospheric dust, consider gently vacuuming your iSight to remove any dust that may be restricting the flow of air through the vent holes in iSight's case.
Please let us know how it goes.

If you must make application more flexible for you,

  • Problems adding and installing a webcam

I wanted to add a webcam to my macbook pro. It's a Genius Look 1320 that specifically states on the box it works with Mac.
Firstly whilst trying to install it I was asked to purchase 'Crossover' as apparently my trial period had expires (didn't even know I had one)?
I managed to install the driver anyway and using the webcam monitor I know the cam is working. The trouble is I can't seem to get it to work whilst using it on the internet? It won't recognise it's presence. Is this because iSight is taking preference? Is there a way to turn iSight off?
    Please help a clueless newbie!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, tommyzero
Do you mean the "Crossover" that lets you use Windows software with your iNtel Mac?
If you installed the OS X driver (see bottom of this page) and are trying to use it with Windows software via Crossover or vice-versa, you will need to be sure you are using the correct webcam driver for the kind of software you are trying to use.
My suggestion is that you contact your retailer or Genius Service technical support for help getting your camera to work.
Once you know that your camera is working correctly, you may need to select it and properly configure your Flash settings to use it as a video webcam with your browser. Depending on what OS and browser you are using, you may need to do something like the process shown in this post:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4761707&#4761707
You can disable built-in iSight, but doing so disables ALL USB cams, so that would not be a solution for you.
