Video Went Blank - Caused by iPod???

Hello
Ok here's my problem.... I turned on my Mac earlier today and after plugging in my iPod I had walked away to get something and when I came back the screen was blank. BUT I couldn't get the video back, I pushed the mouse button, keyboard and nothing. I was able to get the sounds when I pushed the sound buttons on the keyboard but the screen stayed blank. Now, maybe this is where I goofed, I don't know, anyway, I got desperate so I turned it off, waited a little bit and turned it back on. I got the start up sound but still no video. I unplugged my iPod and the screen popped up with the start up apple screen. Now, my iPod never did connect to the Mac, I use a dock and sometimes the iPod doesn't connect; if I push it in a little bit then it will connect and act normal. After logging in again, I noticed one of my external drives didn't connect (it didn't even show up in disk utility) so I turned off the drive that wasn't showing up and it complained that the other drive had been disconnected. (?) When I turned it back on, both drives showed up on the desktop and now everything appears to be working normal.
My question: What happened and should I be worried about this?
specs:
eMac G4 800MgHz
1GB RAM
160GB internal (upgraded)
2 Firewire external drives - 40GB (old one from inside) and 120GB
OS X 10.3.9
iTunes 7.5
could the drive problem be caused by the firewire chain? I have my superdrive plugged into a hard drive which is plugged into the other external HD which is plugged into the Mac. I have this setup because I don't have enough ports for the 3 HDs and my iPod. I found out the hard way that iPods don't like to be in Firewire chains.

if you have a friend who is having the latest ipod with Genius, cover flow etc. , extract firmware binary(.bin file) from his ipod and try loading that to yours, even SAVE your firmware(if anything goes wrong).
this may not display the songs in you iPod (even though it is in the Hard Disk of the iPod.) . so the better advice is of copying all the songs in your ipod.[by copying the ipod_control folder(this is hidden)to your any of your computer's HDD]. after that open itunes , delete all the stuff in your ipod ,eject it and then connect it again. now the folder you had taken as backup (ipod_control) drag and drop it to your ipod.
now your ipod is the latest one with all of your songs back.
This sounds like a recipe for disaster. Changing the firmware binary with one geared toward current models would likely leave someone with a glossy metallic brick.

  • My iPod touch (4th gen) suddenly went blank, and I can't get it back on!

I was listening to music and downloading songs from the iTunes Store on my iPod touch (4th gen) when suddenly the screen went blank. The music I was listening to was still playing in my headphones. When I unplugged the headphones, the music oddly continued playing from the built-in speakers, instead of pausing like it normally does when you remove the headphones without pausing. I think the music finally stopped shortly after I plugged the headphones back in.
Since this happened, the iPod has not responded at all when I press or hold buttons. The screen has remained blank and turned off. Surprisingly, iTunes still recognizes the iPod when I connect it to my computer (Windows Vista laptop, if it matters) and tries to sync. Since iTunes is very poorly written, it almost always freezes at some point before I can successfully finish syncing, but this was happening before my iPod blank-screened, so it isn't related to the problem.
What's wrong with my iPod, and how do I fix it? Will I need to have it repaired? Thanks!

My terrible HughesNet connection screwed up, and I ended up posting this twice. Please go here for the thread you should reply on: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3178195

  • IPod touch 4G - icons went blank

Several of the icons on my son's iPod touch went blank yesterday. The apps still seem to work, but the icons are now solid white. The name of the app is still directly below each blanked icon. I don't think any of the native iOS apps have gone blank. Some but not all of the apps we've gotten from the app store have gone blank. Can anyone help? Thanks.
IPod Touch 4th gen running iOS 4.2.1.

My daughter's ipod touch had white rectangles instead of icons. I could correct some of them when I downloaded updates. Others, I could correct by removing them and adding them back after synching, but they would only go away again. I seemed to finally solve the problem by downloading the current version of iTunes AND the current version of the ipod software. In case your wondering, my daughter has the 4G ipod touch and uses a Windows 7 tablet. She had the 2nd gen ipod touch, and got the new one for Christmas. The problem happened sometime after the switch.

  • Ipod Touch went blank while updating apps

ipod touch went blank while updating new apps i was updating enigmo it was syncing with itunes using windows then itunes got hanged and ipod touch also
now its screen is black and i tried to reboot it but cant i press all buttons nothign happening and ipod is very hot even though its not connected to itunes any one can help me?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • The screen on my ipod nano 7th generation went blank

the screen on my ipod nano 7th generation went blank, I can do, and try to restore in Itunes, but it makes the restoration and nothing happens the screen remains blank.
    I can do that

    Hello eramosf,
I would be concerned too if my iPod nano had a black screen.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
I got this information from the following article for the 6th generation iPod nano.  The steps are the same, except I updated the second step with the reset for the 7th generation iPod nano:

  • My iPad just died. The gear symbol came up and then the screen went blank (turned off). It was fully charged so that wan't the issue.

My iPad just died. The gear symbol came up and then the screen went blank (turned off). It was fully charged so that wan't the issue.

That is indicating that the device has gone into recovery mode. Press just the Power button until the red Power Off slider appears and slide to turn it off. Then power it back up to see if it has exited Recovery Mode. If it has, then you should be good to go.
If it has not, then the issue you had that caused the iPad to turn off was one that put your device into Recovery mode requiring that you go through the recovery process (i.e., the reset did not process since the issue required a recovery to resolve). Here is a link that explains what you need to do to get out of Recovery Mode in that case:

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings If yu can see the screen enough to do it)
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem.

  • Windows 8 on Macbook Air went blank screen at login page

Installed Windows 8 on my MBA. It was working perfectly fine until today, whereby the login page went blank/blank screen on me and it seems as though it went to sleeping mode. Mac OS working fine and managed to get into safe mode on windows. Any help on this? friend suggested that my bootcamp crashed, thus the blank/empty screen but i have no idea what to do as of now as  I'm not good with IT.

It is not your BC Windows, but your screen brightness that may be causing problems. Please plug in your Power Adapter, and press the Shift key when Windows is up an running. You can start Windows from OS X System Preferences -> Startup Disk -> Bootcamp -> Restart.
Please also see Re: Windows 8 display is turned off at startup - cannot login - Stuck pls help.

When using compressor voice is not sync with video. What causes this and how to fix it, please?

Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Screen went blank,no power, even when I plug in, nothing happens.

Screen went blank, lost all power. plugged it in, still nothing happens.

You can try holding the power button down for 10-15 seconds to see if anything appears on the screen. With iTunes running on your computer, you can try plugging it in to see if the device appears within iTunes. If neither test works then you probably have a dead iPod as posted before.

  • Help, IPAD Air 2 apps locked than screen went blank.

Was unable to access any of the apps on my IPAD 2 after using for a few minutes this afternoon.  Tried turning it off to see if that would fix the problem but now the screen is blank. I've tried holding down the sleep/on button for a minute.  Screen came back for 2 seconds and than went blank.  Tried charging and hitting home and the sleep/on button with no success.  Any suggestions on how I might fix this?  Product is barely 2 months old and has been very gently used.
