How do I insert a video in flash with alpha ?
I have a Video inside Final Cut with croma key.
How Can I take this video inside Flash ?
I tried to export the video as a bitmap sequence
(PNGs with alpha) after that I imported those files
into a Movie Clip in Flash... It works fine to me,
anyway I am wondering if this is the best way to
do that... I am wondering if flash accept some
video file with alpha inside.
Somebody knows someting about that ?

I purchased a video clip from istock, the video clip is an .mov and has a alpha channel included. As Szalam said, the b/w image can be used as a luma matte.
Also check if the actual piece of footage has an embedded alpha channel, i.e when you import it AE should know there is an alpha channel and let you know in the top of the project window when you select the element (or "interpret footage").
Alternatively just drag the footage to a comp and enable the checkerboard background to see if there is transparency. These three approaches are the same...just different ways of finding out about the alpha channel.

Export as Quicktime Video - with alpha

I'm having trouble figuring out how to export an animation
I've created in Flash as a Quicktime Video with transparent (alpha
channel) background. My client wants to import it into Final Cut
and have it play over a video track.
I've used the "export movie" feature in flash with the
following settings. (I have Quicktime Pro installed.)
Format: 32 bit color (alpha channel)
Compressor: Animation
Quality Default setting
Sound 44Hz
Maybe there's nothing wrong with my export settings... maybe
I need to specify a layer in my flash movie as the alpha channel? I
can't find any documentation to help!
Anyone have a clue?

I forgot to say that making the Flash track transparent is an
intermediate step.
After that, import the .mov to Final Cut.
QuickTIme can only support Flash content of Flash 5 and
under.
Do you realize that QuickTime 7.1.3 has "Enable Flash" off by
default. To see Flash tracks in QT player or browser plug-in, you
now have to open the QT Preferences or settings, click Advanced Tab
and check "Enable Flash".
However, if you just want to get Flash content as an
animation in Final Cut, here is a good article that helped me do

CS4 - How do I export a video with Alpha from PPro CS4?

I've done this a million times in CS3 and before and After Effects (all versions through CS4) but I cannot quite get it in CS4 with the new encoder. I am using XP32.
Will someone give me step by step instructions for setting up a 1280x720p .avi file with alpha in the media encoder? Isn't there a preset already for this? I've tried both QT.mov and .AVI and I either get garbage when I import the file back in or I get black video under my video even though the file says that it has an alpha channel when I import it back into PPCS4.

After Effects CC, Mavericks and Video with Alpha layer

After installing mavericks I can't import video's with Alpha (animation codec) into AE, it says the file is damaged or unsupported. These files worked fine before or are even created and freshly exported from AE. When I try to open them in Quicktime it tell me it's "converting" them. The files open fine in QT7. Does somebody know how to fix this issue?

I had the same problem on a project we are working on.
Solution (time consuming if you have a lot of alphas to work with) - Right click on the alpha file in finder and open with > Quicktime Player (i have Version 10.3 (727.1))
The file is automatically converted
Then once it has opened, just save the file again. It keeps the alpha data within the file.
Maybe the best way to replace files with the same name, is to move the current files from there exisitng location, put them in a new folder. Then when you open each file in quicktime and save, remove the [converted] from the file name and save it in the original location (this should then all reconnect back into your projects)
Not ideal but its working fro me right now.

Video with alpha channel causing frame size distortion

I have a lower-third which I built in AE. The content only occupies about 2/3 the width of the frame however I made sure I exported it at the full frame size as the rest of the video in my Premiere project. Also, I exported it as a quicktime movie with PNG settings to incl. the alpha channel.
When I import it into Premiere CS4, I drop it in on the Video 2 layer over Video 1 which is the main VT and in the preview, it all seems to be appearing as you'd expect. If I hit enter to start rendering, when it finishes I find that the lower third has been stretched the full width of the frame and additionally, Video 1 has been stretched too. I know there's an option in Preferences > General to default everything to the frame size of the sequence but having that tickbox on or off doesn't make any difference.
Does anyone have any ideas what's causing it?

Windows. Alas neither of those options worked. In the end, it was terribly convoluted but I had to export the footage from Premiere without a graphics, then import the video into After Effects and layer my comp over it - then export the final version from AE rather than Premiere. It seemed a very back-to-front way of doing things but if it works...

How to export a video with an alpha channel that can be switched off

Hi!
I'm stuck with something that I think might have a simple solution:
I need my video to have an alpha channel while still keeping all the RGB information in place too. This is for Syntheyes, which can take the alpha channel for a video and use it as a garbage matte while tracking.
The problem is that if I draw a mask around my video and then export as a PNG (with alpha), the RGB information seems to be gone even when I choose to ignore the alpha channel. I know how to edit the alpha channel in Photoshop while still keeping the RGB elements untouched, but how should I do that in AE?
Any help will be appreciated!

Okay I will answer my own question:
This worked as soon as I did a proper export as a PNG image sequence. I did my tests with only single frames by using the "save frame as file" -function, which did not work properly (the rbg information was gone).
So the simple solution to this question was:
Draw a mask on the video layer and export with alpha. The RGB will be there, even though the mask hides it in AE.

You would need to make the video with an alpha channel on the desktop, but then just type of URL into the URL at the top of the app and it should download and play. There is already support in the app for changing the background color that appears behind the video.

How can I create a video with a transparent backgound?

I rendered out an image sequence out of 3DS Max as png files with alpha channels. It is of the earth rotating. I want to export it so when it is brought into power point, all the space around the globe is transparent. How can I do this?

Sorry--overlooked that since it wasn't capitalized.
Anyway, you'll have to see what formats PowerPoint accepts that can include alpha (if that's even possible). For sure, On2 VP6 won't work, and QuickTime probably will not; the only likelihood is the uncompressed AVI option, and even then, that's a long shot.

Can no longer import QT files with alpha channel

I have been using these client supplied QT with alpha channel files just fine for weeks, then all of a sudden, after a crash the other day, I was unable to open sequences with these files and exoprt them, the exporter would just freeze. the clips played in the timeline, but VERY sluggish.
On the reccomendation of a few posts around here, I removed the clips from the project, and now I cannot import them back in, I get a "the importer reported a generic error" message. I am able to open in QT pro and export to a new file that will import to PPro, but I lose the alpha channel.
As always, I'm up against a deadline and any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have installed QT 7.07, no help.
I'm on a windows 7 machine running CS master collection 5.0, Quad core AMD with 8 gig RAM.
These files worked fine just days ago!!!!
BTW, I just switched over to Premiere a few months ago and to honest I can't understand how anyone would stick with this buggy software, as a professional I've never used anything this bad before.

Welcome to the forum.
Try these. Attempt to re-import after each one:
Clean the media cache database via Edit | Preferences | Media
If step 2 doesn't work, then find all the .qtindex, .mpgindex, .cfa and .pek files associated with the media that's supposed to be in your project and delete them. Then clean the media cache database again.
Launch Pr and while it's launching, hold down the Alt + Shift keys until the Welcome screen appears. Alt resets your preferences and Shift resets the plug-in cache.
To address the other issues you say you've been having with Pr, you should start a different thread (or threads). Coming from other editors, there may be a difference in the way Pr does things that produce unexpected results that may be seen as bugs. More serious issues, such as crashes, can often be caused by 3rd-party hardware like AJA, Matrox or BlackMagic and the associated drivers. Outdated or incorrect drivers for audio and video cards can also cause problems. I recommend that you start troubleshooting those areas first.
Other issues may have workarounds. If you have serious, reproducible problems that have no workaround, then please file bug reports here:

Quickest way to work with Alpha'd Graphics on Timeline

Hi All,
What do a simple Graphics Overylay for a video we are editing. Basically want to edit a split screen video and over lay a graphic to give it nice branding.
To achiveve this have two layers of video with a Graphic over the top with an Alpha Channel punched out to show video underneath. We are using a Pro-Res Timeline.   The video footage is shot on Canon 5D transferred to Pro Res 422. Timeline matches those settings.   The graphics overlay will created in after effects have animated into and outro of it.   But majority of time will be stilled.
As I see it this could be achieved by following methods
Exporting an Animation Codec video from AE which can have an Alpha Channel. Downside is size of files and render times.
Exporting an Animation Code video for animated intro and outro and then using TIFF/TGA for stilled bits .. Upside: Smaller file sizes however there is a colour flick in change from Video to Still? Is there away round this?
Any other ideas workflows that maximise editing time and reduces render times on the FCP timeline..
We want the best workflow to make finalising the video quickest - we are working onsite and time will be crucial, especially in render a the end and as we go along.

Is it possible to have video with a transparent background in dps?. Basically i've animated some elements in apple motion and want to incorporate them as an overlay (with the indesign page background showing through).

You could do it with an image sequence but AFAIK there’s no support for alpha channels in video.
