Video with iWeb

To those who can help.
iWeb makes it easy to drag and drop a video into the window and add to the site to publish.
I have been experiencing problems when adding a video constructed using iMovie.
It works fine on my machine when I check it online. However when others tried to access it from theirs (prob not Mac) they were unable to view the clip.
I did try and convert and save this as an mp4, thinking that this would resolve the issue. Unfortunately the matter persists in being a stumbling block.
The only other option I had was to load it up through youtube and create the link to there from the site.
It would look much better and work more efficiently if the movie clip could be added directly onto the site through the use of iWeb.
Any fixes to the problem would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Movies published with iWeb require QuickTime.
The alternative is using a Flash video player. Most play .m4v files (made with iMovie) and .flv.
Here are samples for your pleasure to study and nim:

And here are tutorials that explains how to embed such movies, or other HTML code, in an iWeb page.

  • How do I add a type tag to my enclosure with iWeb?

I encode my video with QuickTime, manage my website with iWeb, and upload it to the web with Transmit.
A few episodes ago, my podcasts stopped updating on Podcast Alley. Tech support pointed out the problem: There are no type tags on any of my enclosures.
From what I gather, the type tag tell you what kind file it is - ie, a .m4v
I don't have any idea how to add a type tag to an enclosure using iWeb, and I don't even know if its possible. I would think that iWeb would do it automatically.
Also, how do I change my feed? I originally just used the feed iWeb created:
    http://www.leilajones.com/jonescast/...esCast/rss.xml
But then set up a feedburner feed - which I now submit when I submit anywhere new.
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/jonescast
But how do I change the rss feed on my website with iWeb... I love the simplicity of it, but it's so limiting...
Also, how do I change the feed in iTunes to the Feedburner feed?
    Thanks for your help,

  • How many website can I create with iWeb?

How many different webpages can I create with iWeb? I just created a site to show friends a slide show from a recent trip, but I need to create another webpage that will have video on it. It would be a totally different subject matter. I do have a .MAC account and not sure if I need to do anything with that so I can have more webpages.
I guess what I am saying is that I am going to need different URL's for the webpages I am going to need to create and want to know how many you can have or create using iWeb.

You can have multiple websites, each with multiple pages depending on the need. To make managing multiple sites easier, take a look at iWebSites. The limiting factor, as was pointed out, is the available space on your iDisk. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • Autoplaying video on iWeb using Windows Media Player

I'm using iWeb to design a website that needs to play video and audio files. These files have been created on a PC and saved in the Windows Media Player (wmv) format. Will I be able to autoplay them in a website designed with iWeb? How do I accomplish this?

You can do it, but you will have to convert the WMV files into straight QT files. To do this, try a little program called "iSquint". http://www.isquint.org
Just drag your WMV file into the iSquint window, adjust the quality slider to your liking and hit go. You can even batch convert your WMV this way.
Then all you have to do is to drag them into iWeb. To make them autoplay, you will have to do some manual editing of the page.js files after publishing with iWeb.

  • Delete and replace video in iweb

I have iWeb 3.0.4 (iWeb '11 I think). I want to delete a YouTube video on my video page and replace with another YouTube video, or simply call up the YT widget and change the URL address to the video I want. I can't seem to delete the old video and when I drag over the widget to the video and type in the new URL it simply overlays my new video on top of the old one so I have 2 videos in that spot. Is there a relatively simple solution to make this replacement of one video with another?

First click on the existing video and use the Delete key.  Then add the new HTML snippet with the YouTube embed code.

  • Squashed Flash Video in iWeb

This is a stumper and I could really use a freah perspective on it.
I have been trying to get a Flash movie on my iWeb site bu using the instructions on the iWebUnlimited site here...
    http://iwebunlimited.com/iweb-tips/iweb-tip-9-flash-video-in-iweb-jw-player/
The problem I have is that when I publish my changes in iWeb and point my browser to the page the movie is on, the movie plays as a litttle squashed box in the middle of the player.  Let me explain...
I followed the instructions on the iWebUnlimited site to the letter.  I have downloaded the .swf and .js files, placed them in a folder called "flash" on my iDisk as well as my .flv movie file and a screengrab of the same size.
I have changed all the parameters in the HTML code to point to my iDisk and the relavent files.
I have changed the video dimensions to that of my newly encoded .flv video  (640 x 352 - in ffmpegx)
When I go to my movie page in my browser, I see the still shot I took as a place marker in the right dimensions.  Yet when I play the movie, although the player is the size I requested - 640 x 352 - the actual movie plays inside it as a squashed box.  Take a look at the screenshot below to see what I mean.
The video should fill the black areas, but whatever I do this is the result...
Here is the info on the flash video I uploaded to my iDisk and how is should look...
And here is the HTML code with the same dimensions input in iWeb before I published.  I have changed my username back to "username" for this screenshot FYI...
The weird thing is - I uploaded a flash movie a couple of years ago to the same page and it plays ok - looks fine.  Shame I can't remember how the **** I did it!  I wondered if having 2 flash movies on the same page were causing the problem, so I deleted the old one.
    Same result.
I created a new fresh movie page and tried that - same result again.
I thought that maybe each movie needed it's own set of .swf and .js files as the 2 movies are of different dimensions, each player would need to be different dimensions also....?
So I even added another set of .swf and .js files.  I tried copying the 2 sets of movie files to individual folders, but iWeb didn't see them at all - it only seems to see them is they are in a folder called "flash" in my "Web >Sites" folders on my iDisk.
I was wondering even if it was down to the encoding of the video, which I did in ffmpegx.  I did have to do it in a roundabout way...
In Final Cut Pro I exported a full quality QT movie - ProRes422 1280 x 720 that turned out at 5.32 GB and 12 mins 5 secs in duration.
This is not recognised by ffmgegx, looks like the ProRes codec has it confused.
So I put it into Compressor and re-encoded it as a H.264 movie 1280 x 720 that turned out at 1.72 GB.
When I put this into ffmgegx it encoded just fine, but stopped after 7 mins and 7 secs.
I tried a hundred different ways but it always stopped at 7m7s...
So I eventually dropped it onto a droplet I downloaded somewhere to convert videos for Vimeo HD  - 1280 x 720.  I dropped this into ffmpegx and Hey Presto - it worked!
So I now have my full length .flv movie at my 640 x 352 on my iDisk with iWeb pointing at it and the correct dimensions input in the HTML code, and it STILL comes out squashed....
if anyone has a clus what is causing this or what I am doing wrong, I will be forever in your debt!
I know this is an epic mail, but I wanted to give all the info I can......

If you are using a SWF or FLV you don't need to use the JW player assets. Just reference the file in an iFrame code....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Flash-SWF-FLV.html
Adjust the dimensions of the frame to fit the movie and control bar if necessary.
This page shows the JW using the embed code and the javascript version...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/JW-Media-Player.html
If you want to us the JW player using the javascript shown on the iWeb unlimited site, you need to adjust the player frame dimensions to suit the control bar position that you specified. I notice that this website doesn't mention the fact that the control bar position can be changed - normally "bottom" or "over". If you set the control bar to "bottom", the frame height needs to be increased. Also the javascript shown is not the latest one where you can specify all the custom options.
If you use the javascript that I employed for the second example on the iWeb for Musicians site, you can do a lot of customizing and specify flash with fallback to HTML5 or vice versa.

  • The easiest way to put a YouTube video in iWeb...

Whew! I am so stinkin' proud of myself. Now this tip isn't for you techno gurus out there. This is for the person who is as clueless about half the files on their computer as I am.
I have a blog. I tried to use iWebMore...I've tried iWebEnhancer...etc, etc. I just can't figure out how to import YouTube with those. I've got major iDisk issues that I cannot identify much less resolve.
So here's the tip. A couple weeks ago I downloaded a widget called TubeSock for YouTube videos. I finally opened it up to see what it was and guess what? All you do is copy the url of the video right into Tubesock and "save" it to "video for Mac" and "add to movies folder." Ta-da! So then in iWeb you just insert a movie clip and it's right in there. Drop and drag!
If you download TubeSock for free, then it only records 30 seconds of the video. But registering it for $15 lets you download the entire video. (Some of us will pay anything for easy!)
Let me know if you're as happy about this as I am because I cannot BELIEVE I figured something out on my own!!!
Btw, the url to Tubesock is http://stinkbot.com/Tubesock
    ~G
    http://web.mac.com/franke5

Great find Gina. The best thing about using uTube on your site is that it doesn't use up your bandwidth. And I can also tell you that once you figure out how to do one thing with iWeb the rest comes very easy. Hopefully in the next version of iWeb you will be able to add a piece of HTML code right in the site, rather than having to add it post publish. Keep up the good work!
P.S. If your interested in the way to add a uTube video in your iweb site just post your question in here. There are a lot of talented people in this forum willing to share information and ideas.

  • How to recover a page created with iweb

I have created a personal website with iweb on my laptop. The hard drive of my macbook died and i lost all datas. My webpage is published on the net but i do not know how to access it, modify it or even delete it! help please :-)

The file you need to have from your old hard drive  is titled Domain.sites and would have been kept in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on that hard drive.
If you have a backup of that file somewhere get it and put it in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the new hard drive, replacing the domain file that's there, and open with iWeb.  That will get your website back in iWeb.
If you do not have a backup of that file you will have to rebuild your website from scratch because iWeb can't import or read published html files.  It can only create them.
If you have to rebuild from scratch Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the new site.

  • Inserting MobileMe Videos into IWeb

I have three questions about inserting MobileMe Videos into iweb.
    1) I used the "insert from MobileMe" command in iWeb and it allows me to insert a video but I can't change the size of the video. Do you know how I can change the size.
    2) I have some movies I have uploaded to the gallery via iMovie and some I uploaded via the mobileme site. The ones via iMovie I can easily insert like I mentioned in Q1 but the others I uploaded are put into an album and iWeb doesn't allow me to select the video I want to insert. It only allows me to insert the whole album which is a small box with links to the album. I want to choose the video to insert into the page. Any ideas How?
    3) Is there a way to insert the video from mobileme using the Html Snippet? If so, how?
    Thanks

You can use the [OBJECT/EMBED|http://htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/special/object.html] code for inserting media in a page.
When you know the location of the movie you can create a path to it.
    Your webgallery is in iDisk>Web>Sites>_gallery>100999>Movie.

  • Newbie with iWeb ...

I'm planning to give a try to Mobile Me specially to check if I will be able to finally build my first website but I have initial questions ... lol
How can I figure out the size of my website built with iWeb 08 ? I would like to know if the space reserved in Mobile Me plans to host a website will be enough to hold my site .....
Can I register a personal domain name (anywhere) and have visitors writing it on their browsers and be redirected to my site at Mobile Me ?
Pictures: Should they be .jpeg or .png ?
Videos: Size ? Data rate ? .mov or flash ?
    Thanks in advance ....

    Hello macmithos,
    macmithos wrote:
I've been reading some post ... about "drag and drop" movie files on iweb pages, making it "bigger, havier and long loadings" and/or place them somewhere, like idisk, and have something like an url pointing to them
That was a suggestion for the old version of iWeb where the movie was uploaded every time you changed something on the page (I did not check this)
Since you have iWeb '08 : forget that tip.
    (streaming ? )
No, MobileMe does not give you QT Streaming Server capabilities.
I guess people doesn't need to have "my movies" phisically on their computers.
Indeed no, they do not need to save the movie on their computer.
But the movie will have to be "loaded" on their computer in order for the browser to play it.
That way, I believe I should compress my videos, for example, as H.264
    Yes !
And also it wouldn't increase my Data Transfer Limits on my MobileMe account.
No, the opposite : when they "save" the movie they can play it 100 times from their hard disk = 1 x Data Transfer.
When they visit your website 100 times to see the movie = 100 x Data Transfer.
    So, keep your movies small.
If you need the movie to be big :
_ you can buy more Data Transfer on MobileMe,
_ put the movie on YouTube or Vimeo and on your page : hyperlink to them (Not in an iFrame on your page!)
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • Launching my Business' Website with iWeb '06

I'll try to keep this brief. Here's where I stand thusfar:
1.) I am putting together my small business' startup website using iWeb 06, due to its ease of use, having everything I need to make a nice startup site (particularly for my portfolio, blog & podcasting) & ability to update easily. However this WILL be a company site, so I need to find hosting besides mac.com.
2.) I own my domain names through Godaddy.com. I do have it set up right now to forward these addresses to my mac.com site.
3.) I need to add HTML code onto my site so I can have an opt-in list for those that want my newsletter.
4.) Eventually I will be selling my own products on my site, which I plan to use Paypal to handle payment. But I need a digital delivery system for my products.
I know there are many out there that have some great suggestions about programs & services that are ideal for the mac. Any info you could offer would be GREATLY appreciated. I am starting this up on a shoestring so money is a factor, however I see this as an investment & am willing to trade cash for ease of use (basically, if it's easy to use I'm willing to spend the cash on it).
    Thank you

Hey, thanks for your quick and helpful answer!
I wasn't sure it could be done with iWeb, since I tried to do it with my godaddy hosting package, and their off-the-rack website builder didn't allow for html code to be pasted. guess, iWeb allows for that.
My webdesigner told me, iWeb wasn't suitable for professional business websites (video & audio files, newsletters, autoresponders, password protected members' area, the works), only for granny sharing her fotos with her family... seems, he was wrong
    thanks again,
    Orlando

  • Create an e-commerce site with iWeb?

I know iWeb has some e-commerce features like the ability to place Google Ads, but I want to create a full e-commerce site with features like an ordering page that takes paypal and credit cards, autoresponders, a pop-up form on the home page that offers to subscribe visitors to my newsletter, possibly a popup that asks visitors if they really want to leave without subscribing, etc. These advanced features are beyond my capability to learn easily, and I understand that I should be willing to hire someone to do this if I ultimately want to earn some money. BUT, what if I want to create the site in iWeb? Would I have to hire an HTML expert who’s familiar with iWeb? Is iWeb up to this task or should I use a different editor for this purpose?

Timothy ~ iWeb is intended for designing personal websites. It doesn't have the level of control at the HTML level to create sophisticated e-commerce websites. You could consider using a web store builder such as eCRATER or Shopify.
The free, web-based Posterous blogging system has an integrated connection with Shopify. You can post photos, video, and documents to your Shopify store blog simply by sending an email with any rich media attached. Read more here.
An alternative to iWeb is RapidWeaver which has a PayLoom plugin which lets you create special pages that interact with PayPal Shopping Cart.

  • Video on iWeb

I took a video with my Samsung digital camera. I uploaded the video to iPhoto 9.1.1. I updated my web site by adding a movie page and dragging and dropping the video in iPhoto to the page in iWeb 3.0.2. The web site published OK but when I went to view the page with Safari 5.0.3 I got the QuickTime icon with a question mark where the video was posted. Is there an interim step I am missing and secondly, can I convert the video file so it isn't so large?

I was able to use QuickTime to prepare my video in iPhoto for publishing to the web using iWeb. When I used File/Open in QuickTime it listed the videos I had in iPhoto. By selecting the desired video and opening it with QuickTime I could then use the File/Save For Web... function. QuickTime prepares several files of the video each for a specific endpoint device such as a computer or iPhone. I include the .mov file into my web page.

  • How can I edit a website that someone else did with iWeb?

A friend of mine she has a website that her ex-husband did with iWeb. Now she wants me to edit it. How can I do this in iWeb?

The file needed is titled domain.sites and would be located in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the ex-husband's computer.  If that file can be obtained you can edit and continue to manage the site.
Otherwise you'll have to start over from scratch. Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the creation of the new site.

  • Bad Quality When Sharing with iWEB

Sorry if this is posted somewhere on here. I could not find it.
I am having a problem with real choppy video when sharing with iWEB. My videos when viewed on my website are very blurry to the point that you can not see faces. Any help would be most welcome.

I am importing from miniDV. I believe it is HD, not sure if that matters or not. I recorded a clip off of the cam into iMovie. I added a soundtrack and a few sound effects. I saved my project and then shared it with iWEB. It is now on my website but just real blurry and the sound effect don't hit at the right times. It is perfect when view in iMovie (great picture quality). I also shared the same movie with iTunes and noticed, while better then iWeb, it is still not as good as when viewing in iMovie. Thanks for any help
