Video won't play but can hear audio

I just purchased some videos for my iPod touch (I believe 2nd generation) and the videos won't play but you can hear the audio.  All I get is a blank screen.  Why is this happening??!!  What can I do??!!

- Does the video play OK on your computer.  If yes go to the next item.  If not report the problem to iTunes and they will give you a redownload.  Tp contact iTunes:
How to report an issue with Your iTunes Store purchase
- I would try transferring the video to itunes on you computer and then deleting it from your iPod.  The go to Advance tab in iTunes and select the Create iPod and iPhone Version and then sync to your iPod.

  • All video playback is black, but can hear audio.

I'm using a trial of CS6 and having trouble with imported clips. In the past I have been able to open these clips in CS5.5 and CS6 when on Windows 7. Now I am on Windows 8 and they are all black when I open them in CS6. They do play in windows media player just fine though.
I do game recording and the clips were originally recorded with mjpeg compression. On Windows 7 I encoded them using the default Youtube 1080p preset in CS6.
So far I've tried installing the motion mjpeg codec trial, and it didn't work. Tried installing the full k-lite codec pack, that didn't work.
    My hardware:
    i5 2500k @ 4.3GHz
    16GB DDR3
2x 670 GTX SLI (althought Premiere is set to only use one GPU)
    128GB SSD
3 1TB 7200 RPM Hitachi Deskstar single platter HDDs

Pull out one of the video cards, install the Morgan or Mainconcept MJPEG codec and try again. Also make sure you have the latest nVidia driver, 310.64
This didn't fix anything unfortunately. And now I'm back on Windows 7, fresh install and using the 310.64 drivers I've been using all this time. Still have no video and can only hear the audio when watching in the source or sequence monitor. Clips play perfectly fine in windows media player.

  • After 6.0.4.2 Upgrade next video in playlist won't display but I hear audio

I've been fighting this since I did the 6.0.4.2 on my windows machine. Any Playlist of videos purchased or free will only playthe first video I click on but won't play the next video. Ijust hear the audio and see a still shot from the prior video. I did try to reintall 6.0.4.2 and opted to repair it and that hasn't helped.
    Any suggestions?

I still haven't received a reply on this problem. However, My reply to myself states a solution I found that worked for me. I hope it works for others. I forgot to return and give a deltailed explanation of what I did. Now it has been a while , I'll do my best to explain.
Software with many settings like iTunes offers will usually us a User Preference file to hold the settings. This is the file I found and deleted so the very next time iTunes started it created a new file to replace the missing file. I then changed all the settings to the way I prefer them to be and they took hold and held. This solved my issue.
    You next question is, where to find that file. Look for this file in the directory structure like this;
Open a Window that will allow you to see the drive structure. Go to your main drive. On that drive look for a Folder called Documents and Setting. From there got to the acount name you are logged in under. Then go to the
folder called Application Data. After that and I should say under that look for a folder for Apple Computer. Under Apple Computer you will see a folder called iTunes. There will be some more folders but at this point you need to look at the files in the iTunes folder. You will want to delete the one "iTunes.pref" This was the file giving me some issues.
Your case may be so this might not work for you but give it a try. It might help.

  • My movies won't play. you can hear them but not watch

Ok any video i put on my ipod 5th gen won't work.
i can press play on it it will play the audio of that movie but not the video it just shows the artwork of that movie thats it.
    Help pleaseeeeee?

On your iPod go to "Videos / Video Settings".
Then select "TV Out" and either set it to "off" or "ask".
Also, make sure you are accessing the video through the videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist and you access it through that, you also won't be able to see the video.

  • Video won't play but audio will.

Whenever I try to playback my video, the playhead will move but it will stay in the frame I started from and won't play the video, but the audio will play. I;ve tryed rendering everything, restarting my computer, and cleaning the cache but none of that will work. I tried exporting the video and it played fine but it still would do the same thing when I went back to editing. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Does it have anything to do with me only having 4gb of ram?

  • Updated ipod Touch 4G to ios 5. TV out now not working, but can hear audio.

I solely use my ipod at the gym, on the treadmills which have tv's and ipod connections built in. Prior to the ios 5 update, I was able to connect the ipod to watch mp4 videos, from the video app that comes with the ipod. To clarify, these are videos I created, not downloaded. They are created from dvd's that do not have protection. Now that I updated to ios 5, I can only hear the audio, the video does not appear on the tv. The ipod shows that a tv is connected, but again, not seeing the video feed. Has anyone else had this or a similar problem with tv out? If so, is there a fix?

Exactly the same problem here.  In another thread some claim this problem is fixed by doing a restore with iTunes.  I haven't tried that yet.

  • .mpg video won't play in AVC3

    Hello all,
I've been trying to input soundbites into my newscasts recorded with Adobe Visual Communicator 3 using video formats .mov and .mpeg (MPEG 4). With these formats, the video clip will play but without the audio. When I converted the .mov video to .mpg (MPEG 2) the audio finally came through but this time there was no video. In place of the video, it showed green. I converted the video using Adobe Media Encoder.
I would really appreciate any help!
    Thank you!

I think it's your specific browser player problem. It works
    here on every IE
in my Office. No problem at all...

  • Can hear audio but get no video in QT player or iTunes or Safari

I can hear audio, but get no video (ie just a blank window or the "first frame" of the video) when playing basic ".mov" movies using QT Player. I also get the same behaviour when trying to watch movie previews in iTunes. I get the same behaviour when trying to watch QT movies in Safari (for example the latest apple advertisements from apple.com), although ironically I was able to watch the entire Macworld keynote without a hitch in QT Player?!?!
I know my mac is now "getting on", but I know it is still capable of displaying "ipod" sized movie trailers in iTunes.
Real player, cameraid, graphic converter and btv pro can all play the movies QT Player cant. Firefox can play the movies that Safari cant play. Unfortunately there isnt an alternative for iTunes.
Can anyone give any reason or solution to the fact that the core Apple applications are unable to play Apples own movie format when out of date, 5 year old, 3rd party software can?
    I have tried
    1) deleting the QT plist files
    2) reinstalling flip4mac, perian, realplayer and flash, and
    3) have just updated QT an iTunes to the latest version.
    Any ideas?
The only hint I can think of, is that when playing a movie in QT Player, if you minimise the movie to the dock, and then bring it back to the desktop....it displays the "current" frame of the movie which sits there "frozen" until you do it again ... and just repeating, audio is fine.

    nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
    Quartz Composer.webplugin
    QuickTime Plugin.plugin
    RealPlayer Plugin.plugin
    VerifiedDownloadPlugin.plugin
Are any of these out of date?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Brad.

Yes Techmo, persistence is the secret.
After the QT 6.4.5 update once again made no difference, I gave up with a brand spanking new 2.8Ghz iMac only a couple of days away.
On cleaning out the old mac getting ready to transfer files to the new mac, I unplugged everything but (of course) power, keyboard and mouse.
I dont know why, but I tried a movie...and it worked like a charm.
I dont know what was plugged in that was giving QT grief, but I suspect it may have been my ageing Orange Micro iBot webcam. Too late now to find out (and I no longer care as I gaze on my new 24 inches of beautiful screen real estate), but for all those with this problem....try unplugging everything as I did and see what happens. At least it might be a starting point to solving your problem.
Strange it only affected Apples own applications though???

  • Can hear audio, but video blacks out every few seconds; picture comes back when we hit the tv's volume button

We can hear audio, but video blacks out every few seconds; picture comes back when we hit the tv's volume button. Everything seems to be plugged in well. The picture even starts out being sort of dim. And it goes through phases of working fine but then will randomly start blacking out again.  Any ideas?

Have you tried turning the TV off and on again.

  • Audio is fine, but video won't play right!

I have just recently purchased a video that's about 22 minutes long. It plays fine for the first 10 seconds or so, but then video becomes choppy and, if I put up with it long enough, eventually freezes. The audio is fine, however. I have just downloaded the latest version of QuickTime, so having an old version is not the problem.
It's bugging me that the video won't play correctly. Is there any way to fix this?
    Thanks.

I really need this video to play right by Monday...

  • Have reset Firefox & completed all of steps in "Flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites", but video still won't work. Help!

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

  • My Quicktime 7 won't work. I have purchased a key code and followed instructions but videos won't play

Hello - can anyone help please? I have upgraded my software to Quicktime 7 and purchased a registration code. When I enter it, there is no box to click enter and when I press the tab key, nothing happens? I spent £20 on the code and my videos still won't play? Can anyone help please?

It may sound silly, but i had an issue with my Quicktime Pro key (Quicktime 7) where the key was not accepted due to my not using capital letters on my first and last name. My iMac auto capitalized when I entered the info when i purchased the Pro key.  Once I used the Capitals on my registration,  my old key worked fine.  Hope this helps.

  • My mac won't read my external harddrive's videos that I took with my Nikon.  Half the videos won't play, and those are .avi files.  WHY won't they play anymore and how can i retrieve them?

My mac won't read my external harddrive's videos that I took with my Nikon.  Half the videos won't play, and those are .avi files.  WHY won't they play anymore and how can i retrieve them?

What exactly is your problem? Is it, (a) your Mac doesn't read your external disk, or, (b) you can't retrieve your videos, or, (c) you can't play them, or, (d) you were able to play them at one point, but not any more.
What version of Mac OS X are you using, what app are you trying to play your videos with, what happens when you do, and what error messages, if any, do you get?

  • Upgraded to the latest Keynote (5.3 1170) and now videos won't play in presentation mode, only audio

Upgraded Keynote on my home and work computers to the latest version in the AppStore and now videos won't play in presentation mode.  In edit mode you can double click and it will play in the editor.  This happens on both computers running the latest version of ML (10.8.4).
Any help here?  Alread tried a reinstall of ML on one machine with no luck.
Was previously running Keynote 08 (non AppStore version).  Tried creating brand new presentations in 09, no luck.

I had the same problem today in front of an audience with 300 people (MacbookPro OSX 10.10, Thunderbolt-VGA adapter, PPT 14.4.6).
Here what I figured out so far:
    1. It happens when you have PPT open and connect to beamer afterwards
    2. You can resolve it (in my case) by quitting PPT and launching it WHEN connected to beamer
    3. Yet, make sure Mac does not go into sleep mode or you get a lock-screen in the waiting time. if you do so, you get back to square 1. quit PPT again 2. restart it.
    4. Also.... in one case I had to hit the volume control once to get the sound back even though movie was playing
So in short: Connect to beamer first, then launch PPT
I know it is only a symptom fix but it worked for me
