Video won't play unless mouse is moving

When viewing a website with video such as Youtube, the mouse must be moved periodically or the video will stop. I've had this problem for a couple of months and haven't been able to resolve it. I read you could downgrade to v25, turn off hardware acceleration, etc., but none of these solved the issue. I am currently using v27.0. (Also, I don't have this problem with IE, so it must be a Firefox problem.)
Thanks for the help!

I should have mentioned the issue occurs mostly with full-screen mode.

• Videos will not play unless mouse is moving or scroll used

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina 15-inch mid-2014) with an Intel core and the most recent OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
Whenever I try to play a video on YouTube, Vimeo, or the like Safari will not play it unless I move the mouse around or engage the scrolling option on the mousepad.  Sometimes it plays the video, but not smoothly at all.  The audio plays normally as before the video problem occurred.
For some reason, some advertisements seem to play fine, while others have the same problem.
I looked up some solutions on Apple and some non-Apple support pages and they did not fix this problem.
My Safari browser is up-to-date (version 8.0), I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash player, and I don't have ANY extensions installed and none of my third-party plugins/add ons that would mess with the video playing.
When I ran into this problem, I also had an issue with Facebook loading any images (profile pictures, thumbnails for profile pictures and shared video links, shared photos, similar things like that) and the videos uploaded to Facebook would not have an image either, nor would they load.  I emptied the Safari cache and even manually put the cache.db file into my trash and emptied it out.
I may have tried some other things out as well, but I think this is what solved the lack of loading images, but it didn't solve the video playing (obviously).
What do I do?
Thank you!

1. System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All
         Press the "Delete All" button.
        Install Adobe Flash Player.
        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
       Download it first.
        The next step is important.
Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.
Follow the prompts and install it.
        Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2.  Allow  Plug-in.
        Safari > Preferences > Security
       Internet Plug-ins >  "Allow  plug-ins"
        Enable it.
3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy
Press the button “ Remove All Website Data”.
      4. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
Turn those on one by one and test.

• Sometimes my videos won't play, unless I reboot

Often, when I just put my Mac to sleep, when I wake it up, videos won't play.  I have reinstalled Flash, but it still happens.  Any ideas?  Seems only to happen since the last upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion (11D50b)(Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 4GB 1333 MHz Ram)

Wimp.com, youtube, bliptv.  I don't think anything works.  To be specific, they play for about 2 secs, continue to load, but stop playing.

• Adobe Flash Videos won't play unless I close and restart Firefox

I'm using the most current versions of Firefox for Windows and the Adobe Flash plug-in. Recently I've discovered that for some reason, embedded videos in blogs, etc. and YouTube videos will not play-- I either get a blank white space where the screen should be, or a black screen with no "play" option. The only way to remedy this is to close and restart Firefox. This happens every day--it's not a random occurrence.

I've tried every possible solution for this problem -- cleared cache, reinstalled Windows, updated Firefox and Flash, even installed the beta 64-bit version of Flash -- NOTHING helps. Since no one seems to have any ideas about this problem, I'm throwing in the towel on Firefox. The problem has never occurred in IE.

• Pages won't load and videos won't play unless I jiggle the mouse, Why and how do I fix it?

I update to the latest version of firefox and now I am having this problem. It was ok before.

Hello,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the Clear now button.
Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

• This is dumb: Videos won't play unless I disable Realplayer in ALL browsers. This means I simply won't use Firefox anymore except to test web pages. Wow, IE is

I tried disabling the Download video feature in RealPlayer Plus just for just Firefox. videos still will not play. The only way they will play is if I disable the feature for ALL browsers. I have found this to be true on multiple computers and other people have experienced this as well. I can deal with it if Firefox has trouble with RealPlayer, a product I paid for, but why do they care what I use in other browsers? This is unacceptable. Especially since there are all kinds of cheap extensions that do the same thing as RealPlayer but not as well. See ya -- for testing purposes only from now on. My web sites will all note works best with anything BUT Firefox.

Hi nomadsjangle,
<u>Short answer,</u> downgrade to Flash 10.3, Firefox should then work ok, and hopefully RealPlayer will be fully functional.<br/>For instructions see flash 11.3 crashes
Sorry you are having problems. I am not sure why you decided to blame Firerfox for this problem.
If you pay for and install RealPlayer why do you blame Firefox when you need to uninstall it to play video ? Why not blame RealPlayer, FlashPlayer, or even another browser!
This is a known issue and developers from Firefox, Flash and Realplayer have been involved with this for a few weeks. There have been a few changes in that time but no full solution that suits everyone is available, or likely in the immediate future AFAIK.
I suspect your problem is due to the fact that FlashPlayer 11.3 introduced a security feature known as protected mode. (Flash 11.3 may also have other issues with Firefox) RealPlayer (certainly the versions current when Flash11.3 was released) has problems with this. Real player is or was causing problems with use of Flash to view videos on Firefox with Flash 11.3.
Note FlashPlayer will be installed on the Operating System as a plugin, and may be used by more than one browser (although it needs different software for IE).
Downgrade Flash to 10.3 then if you still have problems post back, confirm the Flash Player version you have now,and the RealPlayer version.
Note
* if you use the Adobe uninstaller you may need to reinstall FlashPlayer on IE
* take care not to follow advice from plugincheck FlashPlayer etc to upgrade to the latest version, until this issue is resolved.
* this is a temporary solution, you should upgrade again once this is resolved.

• MailOnline videos won't play in Firefox unless in safe mode although they're fine in Explorer.

It's for my mum, honest. Firefox 25, java and flash uptodate but the Mail Online videos won't play unless I start Firefox in safemode. A large white rectangle appears but nothing else.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

• Video wont play unless mouse is steadily moving

• Have reset Firefox & completed all of steps in "Flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites", but video still won't work. Help!

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.

• Videos won't play after upgrading to ios7.1

Everything worked fine under ios7.0.4 and previous ios versions but videos won't play on YouTube or Facebook since upgrading to ios7.1. This is true for my ipad 4 and my wife's iPad mini. I have tried resets and reboots but did not help. May try to reinstall 7.0.4 unless someone has other ideas. All help appreciated.

• Videos won't play in powerpoint when connected to projector

I've tried to find a solution for my problem online but haven't come across anyone with the same issue. I often work with powerpoint presentations with many videos in it. The videos play just fine on my laptop and also when hooked up to an external monitor, which I use when at work, both in slideshow mode and when previewing my animations. However, when I hook up my mac onto a projector the videos won't play - not on my laptop screen nor on the projected screen. I've tried rearranging the displays by draggin the menu bar to either display and also switched from mirror screens to presenter's view within powerpoint but nothing helped solve the issue. The only solution I found is to play the presentation on my windows partition - which is not really what I'm planning to do for long term...
I'm using Powerpoint 2011 for mac and this problem has occurred using multiple projectors.
Any help on how to solve this issue is highly appreciated!

I had the same problem today in front of an audience with 300 people (MacbookPro OSX 10.10, Thunderbolt-VGA adapter, PPT 14.4.6).
Here what I figured out so far:
1. It happens when you have PPT open and connect to beamer afterwards
2. You can resolve it (in my case) by quitting PPT and launching it WHEN connected to beamer
3. Yet, make sure Mac does not go into sleep mode or you get a lock-screen in the waiting time. if you do so, you get back to square 1. quit PPT again 2. restart it.
4. Also.... in one case I had to hit the volume control once to get the sound back even though movie was playing
So in short: Connect to beamer first, then launch PPT
I know it is only a symptom fix but it worked for me

• Videos won't play in any browser

Just recently, videos won't play in any browser...Safari, Firefox. etc. It seems to happen with .wmv files. I reinstalled media player, but still have the problem.
I get this message.
"Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again"

First, check that Windows Media Player is set as the correct plug in - in Safari, go to help/installed plug ins. There should be a section marked 'Windows Media Player' showing 'application/x-mplayer2' and listing wmv files (amongst others).
Sometimes these arrors are caused by DNS failures. Ensure your system is fully up to date, and enter your ISP's DNS server IP addresses (usually two of them, sometimes three) in the 'DNS servers' box on the TCP page of the Network preference pane.
The DNS server IPs are usually supplied with the ISP's initial set up documentation, or located on the ISP's help page.
The reason it could be a problem is that in many iterations of MacOS X, the system is extremely sensitive to how quickly a DNS search responds. DNS is the process whereby a user-provided URL is converted into the correct IP address for internet lookup, so if the video source is held on a different server and the DNS process doesn't return a valid IP address in time, you would then get an error of the sort you describe.

Are you using the YouTube app or Safari?
Could be the videos are Flash based, which Safari can't display.
