Video "zooms" before and after transition

My video zooms a little before and after the cross dissolve transition. I tried deleting the render files and re-rendering but the noticeable zoom is still there.
Video is 1920x1080 60i prores @ 17.1mbps. Project is same settings, with field dominance set to none. I export to quicktime self contained. Video looks great except for the sudden zoom before and after the transition.
Any thoughts?

Also, what is that field dominance thing? You said it was originally set to "none" but you're dealing with interlaced footage and upper field dominance.

How do I add a before and after transition to a standalone clip in the second or other than primary stack?

New to FCPX on a project this weekend. I have gotten reasonably comfortable with the basic features but one thing that I CANNOT figure out, is how (what used to be) selecting a track in the timeline to activate it to apply a transition. I need to select a video clip which stands alone in the stack which is positioned above the primary track and add a blend transition before and after the clip. I have set the opacity to blend with the images in the primary track below but the beginning and end of the clip in the second stack do not fall at the transition points in the lower track which should not matter anyway. I can’t find it in Help or the third party tutorials that I purchased and completed. Thanks for your help!

Tom gave you the answer. As a follow-on you can then use the Cross Dissolve transition on your newly converted connected clip. This transition will allow it to dissolve smoothly into the video below it. Note that the Fade to Black transition will take both that clip and the video below it to black which would probably be undesirable. Use Cross Dissolve instead. Best wishes.

Changing transition changes time of clip before and after???

When I add or change the transition time, after it renders, the time of the clip before and after the transition automatically changes. I've done it several times and it shortens the time of the clips before and after the transition. Why does it do tht? Its driving me nuts. I keep changing back the time on the clip but when it re-renders it goes back to the time after I changed the time on the transition. Help please thanks lots

Hi Iluvvartan - that is normal. Transitions use portions of the clips adjacent to them. Cross dissolves for example take a portion from each, and the total length of the project is reduced. The Overlap transition only affects the length of one of the adjacent clips, and the total length of the project remains unchanged.

Plastic Surgery Before and Afters... best program?

Hi guys,
I am brand new to graphic designing or anything related to it!
I'm currently looking to do side by side before and after pictures for my office. Sometimes the pictures differ in color or contrast or need to be cropped. Sometimes a patient requests that their eyes or a tattoo be hidden (with black bars).
What program(s) would you guys suggest? Photoshop? Illustrator? Other programs??
I just got a brand new Mac so please help me!

Be aware that a there is a difference between a video that consists of a slideshow, and what DVDs consider a slideshow.
If you want a DVD slideshow, then I suggest taking a look at one of the Lord of the Rings Extended Release DVDs. On the two extra discs with each movie there are plenty of DVD slideshows. With a DVD slideshow you can go forward or back through the slideshow. You can stay on any slide as long as you like. A slide can contain audio. Audio cannot carry over from one slide to another. There is no transitions from one slide to another.
What I suspect is that you want a video that acts like a slideshow. In that case, do not use the slideshows in DVD SP at all. Create your video outside of DVD SP, then just place it in a Track and treat it as any other video.
That being said, do you want a lot of control over how the video slideshow is created, or do you want a program that will do most of the work for you at the expense of not having absolute control over how things are put together? If you want full control then create your video slideshow in FCP/Motion. If you want a program that will do a lot of the work for you, then you should look into iPhoto. It can create some pretty spectacular slideshows very easily, but you will not have the full control you have with FCP.

! symbol and before and after

I am finding when I bring up images that were previously in LR2 that in the bottom right hand corner there is an (!). When I click on it it asks if I want to update my image. Then come up a before and after image. I cannot for the life of me get back to just having a single image. Thanks anyone.

If you watch it you will see a detailed explanation of the ! symbol at about 6:27. I went ahead and converted all of my images so they could all take advantage of the new Develop features.

Before and After in Elements Editor

In the elements editor I choose to display both the before and after on the screen simultaneously. Each change to the photo changes both photos-rendering the before photo useless. Certainly that is not the intention.

I assume you're talking about the "New View" feature. This isn't intended
to give a before/after view. It creates another window showing the exact
same image. The idea is that you can zoom in tight on a small area and make
corrections while seeing the overall effect at the same time in another
window viewed at a different magnification. You could also use it to show
two different areas of the same picture side by side for comparison while
working.
If you want a before and after, you can use the "duplicate image" feature to
make a copy of the file you have open. You could then place them side by
side for comparison.
Another way to to it is to create a blank layer at the top of the layer
stack and then press ctrl-alt-shift-e to merge all the visible layers and
place the composite in the new layer. Then you can toggle the layer off.
Work on the image as you wish. When you want to see the "before", toggle
the merged layer on.
I like to work with separate layers for each step. For example, if cloning,
I create a new layer and clone to the new layer. That way, I can toggle the
layer I'm working with on and off to see the before and after.
I've given you three ways to see a before and after. I hope one of them
will prove useful to you.

Really? You take footage of you shooting the video with another camera then you edit it together with shots of the finished project. If you want to show before and after shots of an effect you just put the original footage on top and animate a mask or opacity to reveal the rendered effect below.
If you can't figure out how to make a before and after then you will have a very difficult time doing any effects using AE because there is absolutely nothing in this before and after but very basic editing and masking.

Numbers doesn't have pages. It has a canvas that holds objects such as tables and charts.
Drag the objects from the bottom of the canvas onto the white space above. That will reduce the number of "pages" (sheets of paper) that will print.

GREP: How can I place a (for example) "*" before and after bold text with GREP?

That checkbox is no longer in my version of PS CC. I see that they have side-by-side, top and bottom and right and left before and after options in the lower right-hand corner in this version. Is there anyway to get that legacy preview checkbox back so that I can use it?

Repairing permissions before and after updating software

What is the reason to repair permissions before and after updating software? This may sound like a stupid question to many of you, but I am new to computers and I am trying to learn how and why of some of the things of my PowerBook. I installed some updates without repairing permissions. Did I install some software updates the wrong way? Thank you.

This is a topic which will draw as many emphatic for and against responses as overnight shut down or not, defrag or not, optimise or not, and so on.
I agree with Neil. I believe that OS X has progressed sufficiently that repair permissions has become redundant and so I do not do it on any regular basis.
Some folk may refer you to an Apple Support Article 303602. That Article in its 4 May 2006 version, titled "Top 10 Tips to Keep Your Mac in Top Form" suggested Repair Permissions should be done "after upgrading or installing new software". The Article was however revised on 15 May 2006 to be titled "Top Tips to Keep Your Mac in Top Form" and the item on Repair Permissions [along with two other recommended maintenance tips] was removed. It is my view that the conclusion to be drawn here is that Apple no longer considers Repair Permissions to be a required maintenance procedure.
Many users have adopted a "Repair Permissions" mantra for a cure-all over several years. I dropped it sometime in 10.3.

How do I create a form that will give a report that summarises before and after data on the same graph?

I have a number questions that I want to know the average of all the before and after data to compare them, how do I set this up in a form in FormsCentral? Here is an example of what I want to do - the green bar is "before" and blue is "after"

This isn't something that you can set up in FormsCentral. It's possible to something similar with a form you create in Acrobat and use with FormsCentral, but there is no sort of built-in graphing control. The bar graph could be implemented with some JavaScript that controls annotations or fields (buttons) and perhaps some text fields.
