Videocard as the cause for program crash ?

I have got an MSI mainboard and an MSI video card. I overclocked my CPU modestly (FBS 200 MHz --> 244 MHz) with the corresponding decreasing in HTT and RAM speed, and keeping the timings very relaxed, and turning off the spectrum spread. However, my game Half-Life 2 and Internet Explorer crash from time to time. If I overclocked my video card, this significantly increased the frequency of crashng events.
It got me thinking: probably, the reason for crashing is that the frequency of operation of the overclocked mainboard does not match with that of the video card. I searched the BIOS for the settings like "locking the PCI bus frequency", but could not find any.
What would you recommend ?

do not OC everythink in a same time..(keep VGA at stock parameters)
find out 1st max stable freq. for your CPU. (give vcore only when need, make test and ensure that its stable. watchout CPU temp during testing and ensure  its in normal range.)  look here for testing applications: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107133.0
I had kept the VGA at the stock parameters, while having overclocked my CPU from FBS 200 MHz to 244 MHz. I found out that if I put BSB to be equal 250 MHz, then the computer crashes and starts to reboot in a loop. Thus, I decreased the FSB to 244 MHz. Using CPU-Z, I found that at such an arrangment, the FSB:DRAM is CPU/7, and the memory frequency is 331 MHz, which is close to the stock ferquency 333 MHz. Perhaps, this is an explanation why I cannot go higher in FSB than 224 MHz. In fact, I was already asked on this forum to post the CPU-Z details on memory timings which I did, and the comments were that the timings were relaxed. I control the temperature of CPU with CoreCenter, and the temperature has never been higher than something like 50 CD when I was running the CPU overclocked at FSB 244 MHz.
I have addedd the details on my PSU into my signature.
I re-state my problem: when either CPU or GPU is overclocked, I get the game HL2 crashed often (something like 5 times in a 2-hour session). I have now returned both CPU and GPU to standard settings, and I will watch the occurence of crash. So far (2 or 3 1-hour sessions), there was no program crash. I will watch for longer.

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Start with a visit to: OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

You just need to attach the person to the FND User. System Administrator responsibility - Security - User screen.
After you have linked the person, you can check the table

  • Is the digitalizer the cause for dead strips?

I have  a itouch 3g and the right half of the screen is a dead strip. Is the digitalizer the cause for this problem?

    I would try the following:
    - Make sure the screen is clean.
    - Reset the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First restore from backup and if problems persist restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to troubleshoot.

  • Which macbook is the best for programming?

Ive been doing some research but I cant really figure out what to get. Ill be using it mainly for programming (Python etc.), some minor photoshop and some basic web use. Im positive I want a 13 inch screen but thats really all there is to it. I love the design of the air but Im not sure if itd be able to handle what I want it to do? Itll be my first Macbook so Im not sure what other specifications to really look at!
    thank you!

Storage space. You will be amazed at how much storage space photos can take up so compare them with that in mind.

  • Why does the checkmark for "Submit crash reports" in System Defaults always reappear after I remove it?

I keep trying to remove this check, but it always come back on its own.

Thank you for the reply, but none of those suggestions apply/or work. This is only a single preference that's not being saved. There is not a user.js file, but a prefs.js file and there is not an entry for crash reports on/off in it. These seems like a bug in Firefox, as the checkbox for the "Submit crash report" toggles back on the instant the dialog is closed, then reopened. In other words, just this one option is not saved. Any other options are saved when changed.

  • Opening the firewall for programs you can't access via the dialog?

I have a server program located in /usr/var/ (cumulus) and I need to open the firewall for it. Because Leopard seems to block access to the / directory how can I add that application to the firewall? I can't seem to browse to it...
Better question still, how can I browse to / directory in the Finder?
    Thanks all!

You cannot browse these hidden system directories using Finder.
You need to use the Terminal.
There are free firewall add-ons for Leopard that give you a better control over the firewall. There are also stand-alone firewall replacements. You can google for them, but be careful when you modify the OS. Be sure it is fully backed up, preferably with a bootable clone, just in case.

  • My FP-2000 creates a file but cannot write any more in this file. Which can be the cause for it?

I create files on my FP-2000 to save data .
This application functioned very well before ; but now without apparent reason, the file is created without error but the writing is impossible. The cluster of error at the exit of VI "Write File" indicates code 6: "Warning 6 occurred at an unidentified location. Possible reasons: LabVIEW: Generic file I/O error."
Which could be the reason for it?
Could my FP-2000 be damaged (flash memory)?

I have almost the same problem. I'am logging data with my cFP 2020. Writing to the flash of 2020 or to the external compact flash port.
For some reason the cFP returns a Generic file I/O error after quite a while. And it's not that I'm running out of free space.
    Anyone got some ideas?

  • Is the new Firefox update the cause for my iBook freezing up?

I have an iBook (the last model before they were discontinued) running OSX 10.4 and have noticed that it has been freezing up, forcing me to do a hard reset, ever since I downloaded the latest Firefox update.
Sometimes it seems like the screen will go to sleep and won't wake up, also forcing a hard reset.
I have done some preliminary googling but I don't think I am using the right terms to get meaningful answers.
Is this a known issue? If so, can I uninstall the update? Or is it something else that I can fix? I have Applecare, but it might have expired by now.
Haven't noticed the problem in Safari, although it's only been since last night that I switched browsers and I may just not have used it long enough for the issues to surface.

    Hi Liz!
The Firefox update, and your issue, coming about in close proximity, may just be a coincidence.
Exactly which model iBook G4 is it?
    What is the Processor speed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
What peripherals do you have connected? A keyboard, mouse, printer, external drive or modem, router, etc?
Have you made any additional changes, like upgrading the system, updated or installed any other applications or programs, etc?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Depending on Mac system usage habits, it is a general recommendation, to keep 10% to as much as 20%, of the Total capacity, available at all times.
Review the suggestions, in the documents that I have linked to below.
    Authored by Dr Smoke:
Problems From Insufficient RAM And Free Hard Disk Space
Freeing Space On Your Mac OS X Startup Disk
Have you ever run any routine Maintenance procedures, as suggested in the articles linked to below?
Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System Maintenance, authored by Gulliver
Maintaining Mac OS X, authored by Dr Smoke
Is the iBook shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
If you turn the Mac off nightly, the Background Maintenance Tasks, may not run on a timely basis.
These can also be run, using a Third-Party utility, or manually using Terminal, to run the CRON Commands.
    I use MacJanitor, when necessary.
INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CRON MANUAL COMMANDS
    Quit all applications/programs.
Navigate to HD > Applications > Utilities.
Double click on Terminal, to open.
    At the prompt, type:
    sudo periodic daily
    Press Return.
Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
This will execute the daily script that is sheduled to run every night.
When completed, repeat this procedure, but change the command to:
    sudo periodic weekly
This one rebuilds a database or two, and usually takes somewhat longer to complete. It is scheduled to run once a week.
    Repeat again, with command:
    sudo periodic monthly
Or they can all be run in one pass, which is preferable, with this command:
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
When the tasks complete, and return to the prompt, you may quit Terminal.
Restart the Mac, and run Repair Permissions.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.4.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".

  • Is my PSU the culprit for my crashes?

Well, I have been having some problems with a PC that I built and I have narrowed my problem down to either the video card or my PSU. I'm willing to bet it's the PSU causing my 3D games and apps to crash.
The specs of my PSU are:
    L&C LC-B450 E (formerly known as Deer, so I hear )
    400 Watts
    +3.3V = 28A
    +5V = 50A
    +12V = 18A
    -12V = 1A
    -5V = .8A
    +5VSB = 2.5A
I know it's a cheap branded power supply. It's either that or my Geforce 4 TI4800 (which worked fine in the PC I took it out of).

how are the Aspire PSUs anyway?
    ...they stink...
    ...for awhile, anyway...

  • Trying to find the cause for error ESSBASE0///Error(1051506)

    Hi,
In brief - we backup essbase before nightly updates start for all the essbase apps. During backup our scheduled jobs do the following steps in sequence -
    1. Shut down Hyperion Essbase - Execute shutdown.essbase script
    2. Apply changes to the cfg file - Execute chg_essbase_cfg script
    3. Stop all the Shared Services
    4. Start all the Shared Services and
    5. Finally start essbase - Execute startEssbase.sh script
What we have been observing since last couple of days is that 'startEssbase.sh' is not executing successfully. It fails with Fatal Error: CSS Refresh Fails
Essbase log shows the following error -
    [DATE and TIME]<IP ADDRESS>/ESSBASE0///Error(1051506)
*Getting project for application [Analytic Servers:<Server name>:1] failed with Error [Get Project for Application Failed : error.UnableToGetChildNodes.]*
After waiting for about a 20 mins we re-run the same script 'startEssbase.sh' and everytime after the re-run it complete successfully without any errors. Essbase also starts up without any issues.
Does anyone know what this means or what would cause this? We're on system 9.3.1 and never had this issue before. Searched around but there's not much information on this issue.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

  • A new top level site was created successfully but won't launch. What can be the cause for this?

A site collection was created with the URL intranet.contoso and it was added to the DNS as intranet.contoso. The top-level site was created successfully after that with the URL being
http://intranet.contoso/main but it is not launching and the following is the error message -
    This page can't be displayed.
This will be a production environment so disabling the security loopback will not be an option. Any suggestions?
    Many Thanks,

I can connect only to the SharePoint Central Administrator from the client computer but not the top level site.
The error i'm getting is This page can't be displayed.
Make sure the web address http://contonsoportalis correct
Look for the page with your search engine
    Refresh in a few minutes
Fix connection problems - When clicked the following shows up "Make sure the computer or device is turned on and connected to the network" Windows can't find contosoportal. If the computer or device you are trying to reach is nearby,
make sure it is turned on and connected to the network. Otherwise contact your network administrator for assistance.
The DSN already had a host created for an intranet that is running SharePoint 2010 called intranet so I created a new host (A and AAA) named it Portal insert the ip address of the new sharepoint 2013 server but it still didn't work.
This is the configuration shown in the DNS
    Host A Tab -
Host (uses parent domain if left blank)
       Portal.contoso.local
IP address: 192. X.X.X for the SharePoint Server
( Should I create a CNAME instead of a new host for the portal? )
I added the host names in the register but it still does not work....
It's a virtual environment running on top of hyper V - One server for SharePoint another for SQL and both joined to the DC.
