  • Please Help!! (I can't videochat)

I have been trying to solve this for a week now, and I just dont know what's wrong! Please someone help me.
The problem started whan I changed my ISP (I changed from dsl to cable connection). The problem is that I can not video conference with one person (starting a video chat with this person did not represented a problem before, and he did not made any changes to his network). First I tried all possible port openning combinations in my router without any success. Finally, I decided to plug my cable modem directly to my computer to see if it worked. To my surprise, when I pluged the modem directly to my computer I was able to start videochat with the three apple tests (appleu3test01, appleu3test02 and appleu3test03), but starting a videochat with my friend did not work. I tried sending him the video request and he tried sending me the request without any success.
My modem is a: Motorola surfboard SB5101
Now, here comes the interesting part...
In the network system preferences I have noticed that my assigned IP is not my "public ip" (it is like if I was connected to a router, but I am not). Also, the ip assigned to me and the "router address" are not the ones that the motorola surfboard assigns. It looks like my ISP is assigning me directly these numbers and it was like if I was connected to a router that THEY control.
To make the scenario more clear: the motorola surfoard modem has an internal "DHCP server" and if I connect to the modem (but I disconnect the the coaxial cable from the modem) then my computer gets the ip address asigned by the modem which is: 192.168.100.11 Then, If I connect the coaxial cable to the modem my ip is changed to: 10.143.10.2, and the router address (or default gateway) is set to: 10.143.0.1 Now, this is not my public IP address as I stated earlier. This is some numbers my ISP is automatically assigning. Turning off the DHCP server in the modem does not seems to make any change in that matter.
I do not have any software firewall, the OSX firewall is turned off too. I do not know what is wrong with the connection. The thing that bugs me is that I can see the apple tests, and my friend can see the apple tests.. also my friend has videochatted with other person succesfully, but I CAN NOT see my friend in the videochat. iChat gives me an error -8.
My first thought was that my ISP is blobking ports or something like that, but then why can I videochat with the appletests? Also the thing that bnothers me is that I can use other applications like a file sharing program, and I can use the video function of skype too! so why iChat is the onlye app that does not work??? and why does it works with the apple tests but not woth the person I need to talk?? (and the worst thing is that before changing my ISP, I was able to talk to him) so the only logical explanation is that it must be some configuration on the ISP side. I really dont know what to do, If I call my ISP I do not have a clue what to tell them because I do not know what the problem is. They won't even know what iChat is... and they will probably tell me they are not blocking anything. Maybe if I knew the exact problem then i could tell them. But the thing I can;t undesrtand is that if they were blocking the ports then I would not be able to videochat with tha appletests, but I can.
Here is the log of the error I get when trying to chat with my friend (This is the reduced version, if the complete version is needed please tell me and I'll post it):

Another strange thing that happened is that with the default nameservers of my ISP I was not being able to videochat with one of the appletests so I changed to another dns's and then I was being able to videochat with that apple test.. I think that is really strange. I mean, what does the dns's have to do with ichat. I thought they were just for internet addreesses.
    Anyone can help me??????

    Hi,
router address (or default gateway) is set to: 10.143.0.1 Now, this is not my public IP address as I stated earlier.
If this is not your ISP which it should not be if it is an Internet company rather than a chap claiming to sell Internet connections and in fact sharing his connection - then you need to find out who and where your new modem is connection to.

  • My built in webcam has stopped working on Skype following an update. Does this mean my macbook air has blocked videochat on skype? How can I fix this problem?

Hi, my built in webcam has stopped working on Skype following an update. Does this mean my macbook air has blocked videochat on skype? How can I fix this problem?

    See this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5306216?tstart=0
    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    If that doesnt pass,
Suggest looking here, much success has been found:

  • How do i get facebook videochat to work on mac?

    First you need to buy the correct version from Amazon or Adobe;
Second, you need to install it on your MAC
third, you need to lunch it to make sure it is working on your Mac.
Have you done any of these things yet?

  • Videochat iChat problems with Built-In iSight...

I'm using a MacBook Pro and I'm trying to do a video chat over iChat connected to AIM.
I've used it several times before with two other Windows users, but this third person I'm attempting to connect with, won't go through.
It says, that their Username won't accept the Videochat invite when they clearly have.
They're reinstalled their version of AIM and even tried to upload newer AND older version but nothing seems to be working.
Can someone with previous experience with this problem help me out?
    Thank you in advance, everyone.

Hey, I hope people aren't getting annoyed by my compulsive posting, but I think this solution needs to be spread, it doesn't get enough publicity:
the issue is that with 10.5.1, a certain quicktime component that acts as a USB controller for the iSight camera is given an expiry time (i.e., the file is given a feature similar to "trial periods"). This file is then deleted, and iSight ceases to function. All that need be done is to replace the component, by downloading it here:
    http://techslaves.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=q8frk8vf81l0f8echu6mj0plk0&action=tpmo d;dl=item16
(disregard the version marking, it works for 10.5.2 in the very least)
Copy it to ~/System/Library/Quicktime, then reboot and it should work.

  • Both can connect to test sites but not videochat with each other

I am using a 2GHz PPC iMac on 10.4.6 with external iSight. I can see the Apple ad from one of the test sites. My wife is using a G4 PowerBook running the latest Panther OS with external iSight. She is in a hotel but can also see the Apple ad from the test site. When she was home, we could videochat over Bonjour.
But, while she is in the hotel out of town, we couldn't videochat with each other. Whether one initiated or the other did, we both get the "XXX failed to respond" message even though we obviously did accept the videocall.
If we both can videochat with the test sites, how come we cannot videochat with each other?
Given the above, I hope some experts can rule out a bunch of stuff and let me know the finite (and small) set of potential reasons affecting our situation so that I can work on resolving this efficiently.
What could be the likely problem?
On my side, I use an Apple AEBS that uses DHCP and NAT but my iMac is manually set to 10.0.1.201. I have set the ports in Firewall but even when I turned off Firewall it did not work.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi Heng-Yee Yong,
The test sites are most likely set to have the ports open by UPnP which does not use NAT.
If you modem is routing and is using Port Forwarding and the Airport is as well then you have two lots of NAT going on at your end.
I would Open Airport Admin Utilty (Applications/Utilities) and log on to the Airport
    Go to the Network tab.
Deselect Distributing Addresses which wll trun off NAT in the Airport and make it a Wireless access device.
This means your computer will have to take an IP form the Modem.
This may not be rquired if the modem id is Bridge mode itself as this measn it is not routing and all port will be open without the use of NAT.
This App can help identify if NAT is a problem
    http://bleu.west.spy.net/~dustin/projects/natcheck.xtp
Or at least whether you have Consistent NAT or not.

Sorry, I am a new user and may be this is not the place to put such information

  • The videochat plugin for facebook doesn't work.

I have Firefox 7.0.1 and when i try to install the videochat plugin for facebook nothing happened. Why?
My friend with Google Chrome can do it. D:
    Please help!!
PS: Excuse me for my bad english, but i'm italian.

Apple doesn't vet or test apps. those apps meet certain requirements and they're in the app store. Look through there, you'll see plenty of 0 or 1 star apps.
There are millions of apps and Apple doesn't vet them.
the facebook app hasn't worked right in years, Apple doesn't care, it's up to Facebook to make their app work. Same applies to Charter
they will not make a developer make their app work well, they let 'survival of the fittest' rule...good apps get good ratings, bad apps get poor ratings, well rated apps rise to the top, poorly rated apps fall to the bottom.

  • Ichat 5.0 videochat delay problem

Has anyone been experiencing a delay or lag time with videochatting in Snow Leopard? It never manifests itself at first, but after about 4-5 minutes of videochatting, all communication begins to run on about a 3-5 second delay. Essentially, videochat seems broken to me with this problem.
Additionally, whenever I invite people to chat, I am unable to hear the other side and have to attempt to connect multiple times before audio works both ways.
10.6.1 dropped yesterday, but these problems continue to manifest themselves in every videochat that I am having. I tried lowering my bandwidth limit in the "Audio/Video" preference pane for ichat, but it didn't rectify either issue.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
I have a Leopard Computer and a Snow Leopard computer and do not see this Lag.
I have also had Snow/iChat 5 Video chats to a Leopard person on a G5 and have not seen this.
It is fair to say that it has always popped up now and then.
Normally it resolves itself by reconnecting in the past (sometimes in the chat with a Keystone Cops moment of high speed activity).
I have nothing else that I think will produce different results.
Deleting com.apple.ichat.plist might - but the speed change you have tried is supposed to be written to this .plist anyway and you can check that against the Bit rate shown in the Connection Doctor.

  • Videochat on Skype

I have no problem doing iCHAT videochats on AIM, but when I try doing a chat on Skype, the camera doesn't come on, and the message says "No video camera connected." How can I get my iMAC webcam to work with both AIM and Skype? Thanks for your help!

    Umm,
I take it that the camera is not in use by another App ?
Only one app at a time should be accessing the Video feed.
Normally this will give a Message that the "Camera Is in use" which is why I think is does not apply.
As iChat can use the camera I am sure that it shows in System Profiler > Hardware > USB
I don't use Skype so have not tried any "Fixes".
However does it react the same in Another Mac User Account ?
Also see this Thread where EZ Jim links to the Skype site.

  • IMessage videochat won't work on MacBook pro?

If a friend calls me, it just has the preview window up and nothing else happens -- on their side, it says the call failed.
If I try to start the videochat, it pops up with an error. This is only a recent issue.
I have all of my updates done on my laptop, as well.

    Hi,
Your title says iMessages won't video.
The iMessages account in Messages does not do Video - invokes FaceTime.
If you mean you are trying to Video to an AIM or Jabber Buddy from your own AIM or Jabber account then the Messages App will do Video
In the Video Menu open th Connection Doctor and tell me what each of the options in the Drop down say.
In Capabilities it would be nice to know you can do 4 way Video and 10 Way Audio chats (it will say Multiple)
    Same at the other end.
I would also do a Speed check on your Internet Speeds at both ends

  • Videochat window closes itself during the chat

I have iChat version 3.1.8 and I still use Mac OS X 10.4.10.
I wanted to have a videochat with my mother (she uses AIM Messenger on Win XP), but it didn't work.
The window of the videochat closes itself after less than 5 seconds. Sometimes it's very fast (before I see my mum, sometimes it's after 5 seconds when we could say a half sentence.
I tried to restart the computer, but the problem is still there.
The last days I also had trouble with my computer: slow start-up, blocking (even apple-alt-esc didn't work any more) and troubles with iTunes when I click it in my dock, it doesn't jump, it doesn't open, but there is the little black arrow wich means it's activated. Could this have something to do with it?

    Hi
Do you get an error message with the closing of iCHat?
    Have you done the following?

  • Transparant Speedtouch enables videochat AND remote screen!!!!

By making my Speedtouch ST780 as transparant as possible, i can finally videochat AND do remote screen.
    1) I assigned my Mac the public IP address of my speedtouch, using the Speedtouch webinterface: Home > Network > Devices > Assign the public IP address of a connection to a device
This adds the next portmapping In the ST780 portmap
Idx Type Interface       Outside Address                Inside Address                 Use
         3 NAPT Internet        aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd                aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd                23
    2) I set the security level of the firewall of the speedtouch to disabled, using the Speedtouch webinterface: Home > Toolbox > Firewall > Configure
This adds the next firewall rule in the ST780:
       Chain                    Nr.  Flags  Rule
       forwardlevelDisabled   1    C E    AnyTraffic    : accept   . > .
    3) I set the firewall of the Mac to " Set access for specific services and applications" and added the application ichat. Setting the Mac's firewall to "Allow all incoming connections" also works, but i need some protection now.
Of course my VOIP telephone of the speedtouch doesnot work now, but that's the next problem to tackle. Now i start from a working situation. The steps will be:
    1) make a copy of the standard security level of the ST780, so you can edit it
    2) add a line in the portmap to map all ports not yet used to my Mac
    3) define a service for all UDP ports to be used in the firewall rules
4)add a firewall rule, allowing traffic form any interface to any interface, or a little more strict from wan to lan and vice versa
I will let you know the results

It isn't a bug - setting up your Mac as a web server is easy. Connecting remotely is a little harder. A service like logmein makes it very easy but if you want to avoid third parties have a look at this article: http://lifehacker.com/software/feature/special-how-to-control-your-home-computer -from-anywhere-125607.php
I've used Chicken of the VNC on Tiger and it works well - connecting remotely is more of a challenge but isn't too hard.

  • New DSL connection prevents screen share, videochat

Previously, I was able to videochat and screen share with a remote computer using ichat. With that particular remote computer, I was never able to use vnc or finder-originated screen sharing, so I've always relied on ichat.
I switched from cable to Verizon's DSL internet service, and now I find that I can no longer screen share using ichat or use videochat. Sometimes my file sharing is also affected. I can also no longer access this screen from another computer from the finder, or access this computer as a file share from another computer.
I have enabled file sharing and screen sharing in the sharing panel. The remote computer also has screen sharing enabled. I have mobile me service, which syncs ok, and I can obtain a shared screen from my office computer, although this seems to be available only now and then.
Running ichat 4.0.8, OS 10.5.7 on both computers that I'm having trouble screensharing and videochatting between.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Todd

    Hi,
I have seen one post that remarked that the end user thought Verizon were now blocking VNC connections and that their reasoning was to stop Internet attacks on Home computers.
Seeing this is a common method for large companies to update remote computers particularly with Windows and is part of Apple Remote Desktop, And, that on all computers it has to be set to be allowed, this did seem a bit lame.
If you know the IP addressing needed to get from home to your work computer then using vnc:// instead of afp:// in Connect to Servers will invoke the Screen Sharing App that is hidden away in Leopard in Hard Drive/System/Library/Core Services (I have only done this over my Local LAN and don't know how to set it up or address it over the internet)
Your extras clues only seem to partially support the idea that VNC connections are blocked.
If Video chat were not working as well I would look to whether the Modem is allowing Response to Internet (Anonymous) Pings as I know iChat sends a Ping in Video and Audio Chats (and the screen Sharing includes a Audio feed.)
I would have looked on this site for more clues http://portforward.com/routers.htm as some of the Instruction pages include pictures that can be helpful in some cases.
I don't see your model listed which may mean it is really new and has not made it to the list yet.
Defcom either compared them a chose the most likely access defaults or found the info elsewhere.
This one which may be the closest model number has no real pictures in this case

This page is from a D-Link emulator

It is Advanced then Filters (The Yellow items)
Do you have anything like this on your device ?
Does anything appear to be set ?
In this Tools and Misc page it has UPnP and other options that may need to be allowed. (WAN Ping Blocking is on this page for this device and it also has VPN stuff)
These pages/links are for clues only as most manufacturers of modems and routers layout the pages differently.
My thinking is that it is either something like a Firewall or filter or similar on the modem that need "Unblocking" in some manner to allow UPnP to "Fully" function or the ISP is doing something that they are not being too open about.

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"

  • I am showing to be OFFLINE in Videochat on playbook

My Accept Calls is set to On.  I can make calls and people can call me, but I am showing offline to everyone.  Am I missing something.  The VideoChat is open, I am connected to bridge (even if I am not connected my name stills remains grey), I am connected ot Wifi and can make and accecpt calls.  (My preference is set up to ON to accept calls).  Wo why am, I showing offline to others?

Sorry, I should have specified. I mean the Logic folder containing samples, ESX, etc., not the project or application folder. I'm trying to move some files to the ESX folder but can't find it and it should be in Application Support.
