Videos and itunes folder

Hello;
have my itunes music library on a lacie removable drive and my
itunes folder on my ibook drive. Is that why I cannot create a playlist so that I can play videos on my iphone? Can I move my itunes folder to the lacie drive so that all are together? Please advise
Frank

Hey TapouT TCC,
In iTunes you will see you have 2 options that you may not be familiar with.
Edit menu>
iTunes Preferences
Advanced tab>
1) Keep iTunes Music folder organized
2) Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library
If you leave the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library" unchecked, the files will be accessable in iTunes, but could be stored somewhere else (i.e your external drive). The requirement would be you leave the external drive connected for access.
With that option unchecked, and the videos on the external drive, use iTunes menu File > Add to Library, and add a video not currently in iTunes to see if this works for you
For more information on the option, "Keep iTunes Music folder organized", see this Help article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.0/en/510x.html
Hope this helps,

  • New Computer and iTunes folder from old computer

I have a new laptop, but I no longer have my old laptop.
I do however have the iTunes folder from the old laptop.
What is the easiest way to set up iTunes on my new laptop with all the music from either my iPod or the iTunes folder?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Apple Video and iTunes Pricing

I think Apple released the new Video iPod recently rather quietly. While it did receive significant attention, the changes that will result from this seemingly quiet release will be tenfold.
    Viewing size
The biggest complaint about the iPod video is that it is too small of a screen to watch anything. However, I'd wager a couple things about the people saying this. One: they've never seen this iPod up close in person. And two: that if they were stuck on a 3 hour flight to anywhere that they would love to watch their favorite TV show on such a device. Any device. Beggars can't be choosers and choosers don't have to beg.
    Scheduling
For many, myself included, I just don't follow any TV programs. My schedule is so varied that I simply can't commit to being at the TV the same time every week. With the video iPod, I can gladly catch an episode or a string of episodes whenever or where ever I have some free time. How about while catching a quick lunch? Or while waiting for my tennis opponent to show up? Or any airport layover, bus ride, or train ride, etc. (Probably not during bike rides or driving though...I recommend watching video only when you don't have to pay close attention to what you're doing.)
All of a sudden, overnight, I'm able to catch up on shows on my own schedule. And as more and more shows and other content becomes available, the more I will likely follow in this manner. The market is growing.
    Music comparison
Another thing the video iPod brings to the glaring spotlight is the ridiculous pricing of digital music. Each song costs $1.00 in the iTunes Music Store. (I know, it's 99 cents but let's be real - it's effectively one dollar.) Each TV episode costs just $2.00. That's $1 for a 4 minute song compared to $2 for a 45 minute, commercial free television video program.
Music companies are missing out on a ton of revenue because of this pricing. They are voluntarily cutting their own revenue due to greed and backward thinking. They could easily increase their revenue by at least 400% by reducing the price of each song by 75%.
    Let me explain how.
This year I bought like 2 albums and maybe 2-3 songs. Let's call it an even 20 songs. 20 songs times $1/song. That's $20. I need to know a song or album is something I really like before I buy it. However, if songs were say, a quarter, this would not be the case. I'd hear a song on the radio and be like, "hey, cool song and it's only a quarter". I'd buy songs on a whim...probably daily. The same goes for albums. If I like a song I'd decide that I might as well pick up the whole album. It'd be only $3.50 or so. I'd buy one album week. Who cares if it's going to be one of my favorites!
    So if we do the math for a year, $1/song x 20 songs = $20/year revenue. Compare that to the .25/song model. .25/song x 1/song a day (365 songs) = $91. Then add the one album/week at $3.50 which is $3.50 x 52 = $182. That's a total of $273.
    Results
    - $0. 25/song = $273 in revenue
    - $1/song = $20 in revenue
So in my case, if they reduce the price by 75%, they increase their revenue by a whopping 1300%!! Wow! Some may say that at 25 cents/song they wouldn't cover costs. That's bullsh*t. This is the electronic model where everyone is working in percentages. If whoever (the artists, the label, Apple) gets x% of each song, they'll still get x% of each song, and therefore, the total. And x% of $273 is a LOT more than x% of $20.

    Hi.
iPods can only play MPEG-4 video files. For putting videos onto you iPod, you can manually drag-and-drop them, or sync them automatically. Also see this article for how to watch videos in iTunes.

  • Trying to copy across my iTunes library to my newly wiped MacBook but all songs greyed out and iTunes folder now 0bytes...

I'm worried I have copied the files from the MacBook before wiping incorrectly! Can anyone please advise?

I use an older operating system version and do not fully understand the view you have.  It doesn't look like a standard iTunes folders structure to me:

If you do have a complete library set as per all the links I provided above, here's how you move it:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Updated ipod touch 4g to ios 6 and now my music, video and iTunes U do not work

I just updated my ipod touch 4th gen to IOS 6 and now if I try to start my music, video, or iTunes U it displays the background for the app on the screen for a while and then returns to the main screen.  I can't access any of the content stored on my iPod except for books downloaded.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

Have you tried a hard reset of your device yet? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, you may need to connect it to iTunes and restore it from a previous backup and to factory settings after that if necessary.

  • Apps, video and ITunes not downloading

NEWBIE...Got a new iPad 3 today and won't let me download any of the above!!! The blue line starts as if it progressing but then a MSG pops up to say unable to complete download at this time???? Also got same problem on my iPhone 4s too... It so annoying any advice greatly appreciuated.

I had the exact same problem and I traced it back to a free app called sounds. After I first opened it on my iphone i tried it and then i hit the home button. The next time i tried to use my iphone none of the content showed in the iPod eventhough it showed the memory being used. I restored the phone and everything was ok untill i opened that application again. I deleted it from my iphone and iTunes and it works fine now. Hope this helps.

  • Problems with video and iTunes 7.0

I recently upgraded to iTunes 7.0 (and quicktime as well) and everything seems to work ok except the videos I have on my iPod will not play, in fact my iPod shows that I have no videos, but my library shows them and I can view them through my computer; just not my iPod. Any ideas out there?
    Gman
PC   Windows XP   Sony VAIO PCV-RX860

I'm also having similar problems (audio becomes unsync'd and often playback begins stuttering), but found a work-around. In my case these are video podcasts, so here's what I've been doing. Right-click the podcast and select "Show in Windows Explorer." The file will be highlighted so double-click it to have it played by QuickTime. Some file types may not be registered with QT, so if you get prompted to pick the program to use with the file, select the QuickTime Player.
For some strange reason, the videos play back perfectly OUTSIDE of iTunes 7.0.1.8 (also happened in 7.0). So I don't think it's any of the pat answers that ignore iTunes as a culprit.

  • Mounting Documents, Music, Video and Picture folder to different location.

I would like to mount the documents, video, picture and music folders to a different location than \users\<username\. Anyone know how I can go about doing this? My goal is to have those folders default to folders on a shared partition on the drive. I am dual booting OS X and Vista and would like to share the folders I listed above so both operating systems can read and write to them. I have my drives setup as follows:
    Partition 1 OS X
    Partition 2 Vista OS
    Partition 3 Shared
I already have Vista defaulting to the correct folders on the shared drives but not sure how to get it done with OS X.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Moving the default folders may cause problems with installers and such that expect them to be where they normally are, and there may be various permissions issues. With that said, you should be able to create an alias or symbolic link to the desired folders and place them in your shared partition.

  • Using Remote Desktop and itunes

I am trying to remote into my computer at work (where my itunes library is.) and import music from CD's from my computer at home. i can see the drives and the CD's but Itunes does not. I cant seem to import them no matter what i try. Anyone know how to do this?

I'm not real clear on what you are trying to do, the way your message was worded.
Somewhere in there, I assume you want to file transfer the MP3s you rip from one PC to another.
You could look into using itunes folder watch. Use the remote desktop to transfer the files and itunes folder watch to get them into the itunes library automatically.

  • I recently uploaded some pics and videos from an ipad and a camera. I put them all on Iphoto and backed them up in my personal folder. I then trimmed one of the videos and dragged and dropped that into the master folder(pictures). Its now gone!! HELP!?!?!

I rencently added all my photo's from my Ipad and Camera. There were photos and videos on both. The import was done through Iphoto and then transfered to my backup in my pictures folder. I then took one of my videos and trimmed it and then addded that trimmed version to my back up(pictures)albumn. It asked If i wanted to replace existing photo or cancel and I hit replace. Now the file plays great on Iphoto but I am unable to share it through any form(facebook, Imessage etc) and in my back up(pictures) it says the file in only 87kb. I dragged and dropped it from Iphoto to the desk top along with another important video, when I hit get info on both of them one of them is a full sized video(50mb or whatever) and the other one(the one I am trying to recover) is only the 87kb. I want this full file avaiable to me how can I get it back?? it is already deleted off the camera??? please please help me.

    Garret,
is your movie in your backup folder a Quicktime movie? Then probably only have the Quicktime wrapper in your backup folder, but not the referenced media in the file fork of the movie. If you see the full quality movie in iPhoto in QuickTime player, don't drag it from the browser to the Desktop, but use "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File" to show the movie in your iPhoto Library. Select the Movie when it is revealed and ctrl-click it to open it in Quicktime Player.
Export it from Quicktime Player with "Export to" and share it to iTunes. This way it will be converted to a .mp4 movie that embeds the missing resources.
You can drag the converted movie from iTunes to the Desktop or share it using to Media Browser to other applications.

  • When trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me that im already signed up to one itunes library and if i apply these setings it will replace my current itunes library. is this safe and would i be able too retrieve my deleted mu

when trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me i am already connected to another itunes library and that if i apply these settings it will delete all of my data and replace it with the current itunes library. will this just delete from the i tunes library or from my i tunes account all together?

Thanks for your reply. I don't keep all of my music in the iTunes' designated music folder. I don't like the way iTunes reorganizes my songs and I keep all my music in my own self organized music folders as I don't use iTunes as my primary media application. Not to mention allot of my files come from all different corners of my computer's hard drive. It would literally take months to go through over 20 gigs of media files to pick out the songs I have in my iPhone library to rebuild an iTunes library. Like i said, I don't even use iTunes other than to transfer files to my iPhone. I thought the purpose of manually managing the files was so you don't have to sync it with the iTunes library but now it won't give my that option without requiring me to delete everything on my phone I worked so hard on.
What I don't understand is logically or technically why iTunes HAS to delete all the content off of my iphone. Who's decision in the Apple's software engineering department was to require the one's iPhone to be erased if someone loses their iTunes library? Its frustrating because it makes no sense and I feel as if the software is punishing me for reasons I don't understand by threatening to delete all my content off my phone. Is there absolutely no way to transfer my music to my iPhone without deleting everything currently on and completely rebuilding my music library from scratch?
