Videos and special effects... (?)

Okay I just found these.. they are great! But I was wondering... is anyone else having issues when filming either backlit or in the snow?
My vids are... as best described... "mucky" looking!
Is there not an option to increase the contrast or to 'vivid color' saturate the look?
Thanks...

Chapter 5 Using the Video Camera page:53
Recording Video with Special Effects
You can record video with a variety of special effects on iPod nano.
Note: Video effects can only be selected before recording. iPod nano can’t add effects
to or remove effects from recorded videos. You can’t change video effects settings
while recording.
To record video with special effects:
1 Choose Video Camera from the main menu.
2 Press and hold the Center button to display the video effects palette.
3 Use the Click Wheel to browse the effects, and press the Center button to select one.
The viewfinder screen appears with the selected effect.
4 Press the Center button again to start recording with video effects.
5 Press the Center button to stop recording.
If you exit the Video Camera screen to play back your video, video effects are turned
off. To resume recording with a video effect, repeat steps 2 through 4.

Okay, why am I the only one who couldn't figure out how to get Special Effects with my video camera? The User Manual instructions: see pg 7, which is correct and pg 53-54 seem to be written incompletely; and (as I read them) indicate that with "Video Camera" on the screen, the center black button should be held down, thus providing the choices of Special Effects. WRONG. What does provide the array of Special Effects, is to select Video Camera (with the black center button), opening the lens of the camera. Before recording begins, hold the center black button down until the Special Effects are displayed, THEN select one and begin recording with it by quickly depressing the black center button. To end, again depress the black center button.

  • Video FX (special effects) keep blacking out my clips..

I just switched from using IMovie 08 to IMovie HD because I wanted more effects to further enhance my videos etc. However, one of the very odd things I've been running across is when I try to use the special effects (mainly the Earthquake/Electricity) i apply it to my selected tab, however, once it's done applying, a black screen just shows up with just audio and no video.
I've fiddled with the "Effect IN/Effect OUT" sliders, to align when the effect comes in and exits. and I've done it with other special effects (like flash) and the others work fine. It's just with earthquake and electricity that this black screen keeps showing up over and over again.
    Please help this poor noob!

    Hi
    Can be so many things.
    1. Often the free space on the internal hard disk (start-up disk) is less than
25Gb free. When down under 5Gb it goes really strange and very instable.
    2. In iMovie up to vers. 6 there can be added plug-ins. They can be faulthy or
    missmatch.
    3. iMovie has a pref file - rather often this can be corrupted - deleting it forces
iMovie to make a new fresh error free one. (Easiest is to make a new account, log into
this and re-try - works in same way but lot's of more pref files will be made fresh.
    To start with.

  • Color Conversion for blends and Special Effects..

    Hi,
I need to change Magenta to cyan for the objects(blends) which was created by the way ( Object -> Blend -> Make) and also for the  special effect objects which was created by the way (Effects -> Stylize-> DropShadow/Feather/Arrowheads etc.  If i take the typename for blends item means it return PluginItem.   How can i change the color for that item.  Someone help me.
    Thanks,
    Sudha

NEXT Time: If you know you ae shooting for eventual B&W, take along two monitors on set- both set up to bars; then turn off the chroma on one of them. That way you can light for it. Color fools our brains into seeing more detail than is really there. You'll note there's not near enough contrast in the b&w monitor with standard lighting. You'll want a stronger key, you'll want to play some with the shadow detail. If you're a purist about it, take along scopes and an engineer to tweak the camera for you. If it's a rental, be sure to put it back the way you found it! Nothing makes rental houses grumpier than to mess with their pristine gear.

  • Where can I get more filters, transitions and special effects for FC?

I thought I heard that there is a third party company that has transitions and cool effects and filters I could use with final cut express. Does anyone know who they are, and if they are creditable?
    THANKS!

Oh no I don't have a problem with free and I don't think expensive things means it's better. It's just easier to install a couple discs of software then to go through a bunch of sites and sift through all the free ones. I used to use iMovie and GeeThree made it easy with all their discs. That's why I am looking for software. Plus if anything ever happens to my computer it wouldn't take any time at all to reinstall the CD then to go through and find everything again. Thank you again for your suggestions.

  • Overlaying 2 video tracks (special effect)

This is what i want to accomplish. Let me know if can be done. In short, i want to know if FCP 4.5 will play both video tracks and show them at the same time without using oppacity. The effect I is muliple duplication of the same purson i a room. (camera set on a tripod and the person is filmed over and over again to make it look like there are 10 of him in the room. IF i did not move the camera and layer the video tracks, this could be accompished. Is there a way to play both video tracks at the same time? Because right now, the top video track blocks out the bottom video track unless i adjust opacity.
    Thanks,
    Tony

This can really only be accomplished with green screen and keying. You'd film the first shot with the one guy in the room, then you'd shoot the actor against a green screen for the other 9 shots, then composite the shots by using a chroma key.
With the way you shot it, you cannot get all the guys in the room unless you either adjust the opacity and make the other guys look like ghosts, or use the garbage mattes and frame by frame trace around the each of the other guys (VERY tedious).

  • Video editing 'special effects': can you apply a fast/slow motion effect to video clips?

I haven't been able to find a way to create the effects of fast or slow motion in the video clips. Is there a way to do this? If not, please consider adding it in the full version - I use these effects alot when editing videos.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
When working with a video layer (clip) in the Timeline panel, either 1.) Context-click on the selected clip (right-click or ctrl-click for mac) or 2.) Click on the flyout button located at the top right corner of the clip.
The "Speed" option should show up in the flyout menu.  This is only available for video layers.  If you're working with still or smart objects the speed option is not available.

  • Shadows and special effects

I hope someone can help. I'm just learning about website
design. I noticed a web site online where the boxes and different
colors seems to blend into one another. It looks really nice. Is it
possible to do this in DreamWeaver?
    Thank you!

I see that. Do you think that is the effect she is referring

  • Quicktime 7.5 - Black Video and no Audio - Using Windows Vista

    Hello,
I tried asking this, but I don't think I was clear enough.
Current Computer - Dell Inspiron, Quad Core, 4gig Ram, < 1yr old.
    Running OS - Vista Home
Up until recently Quicktime worked fine, then all of the sudden the video is gone.
The audio is still there however.
What I have done to try to resolve -
    1) Reviewed previous topics and tried the following -
    a) update Preferences to Safe Mode (That made a white stripe in the black screen)
    b) Update preferences to remove Direct 3D video acceleration, nothing changed
    2) Reinstall Quicktime 7.5 - No change, still shows BLACK video and will play audio
    3) Reinstall Itunes with Quicktime - No change still shows BLACK video and will play audio
Thank you for any help you can provide!

I have found a temporary workaround for this. I can open the indeo 5.1 formatted avi's in another program (either fade to black or virtualdub) and change/convert to another indeo codec called IYUV (as opposed to IV50) and while it renders a much larger avi file, those DO open in Quicktime, and when I export to convert this larger avi into a MOV file, it is about the same file size in the end product as the ones I render from the same 5.1 avi on the other computer. Knowing I can do this as needed saves me having to re-render all 400 or so of my avi's to another codec or lose them.
I STILL think there is a fix out there that is related to somehow telling the registry to recognize the ir50_32.qtx codec the same as I finally did to get Windows MP to play these files, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Progress is supposed to make these files SMALLER with BETTER quality, but all I see so far with these "new improved" codecs is bigger files and no better (or even worse) image/sound quality. I'll change to more "modern" codecs when they show me one that is an actual improvement over the old one based on this criteria. And AVI remains the ONLY file format that can be extensively modified and edited artistically (zoom, crop, add watermarks and color filters and special effects). Apple is shooting themselves in the foot if they make us unable to open our AVIs in the pro version so we can continue to use QT Players on our web pages. I LIKE the mov finished product for both file size and quality, and I am happy to drive new customers to them as long as they let me convert my files in QT Pro. When I can't any longer, I'll convert every single website on all my websites player to Flash.

  • 27 inch iMac for editing and After Effects

Hey everyone. I'm a student who does heavy video and After Effects work. Right now my core 2 duo macbook pro is not cutting it when it comes to performance and render times.
Luckily, my budget is around $2200-2300 thanks to money I should have leftover from my college fund (thank you, mom and dad).
I was looking at the MacBook Pro 15 inch until I discovered the 27 inch imacs that are in the library multimedia center. The screen size is great because there's so much space to work with and details come out a lot clearer.
But from a hardware and price perspective, the 27inch imac with a quad core 3.1 ghz intel core i7, 1 tb hdd, and a 2gb AMD Radeon HD 6970m is around $100 LESS than the MacBook Pro with a quad core 2.4 ghz, 750 gb 5400 rpm, and 1 gb 6770m.
The only tradeoff is portability, but given the difference in spec, i'm starting to say its worth it.
I know that a lot of AE is dependant on CPU and lots of RAM per CPU. Upgrading to 16 gb of ram is getting cheaper and cheaper (it also helps that the imac has 4 ram slots). The iMac can actually support 32 gb of ram, so when that becomes available that is another nice plus.
So just doing the math, with 16 gb of ram that would be a 3.1 ghz quad core intel i7 with 4 gb of ram per core. 8gb of ram when upgraded to 32 gb of memory.
I'm not sure what Apple is gonna do with the next iMac refresh, so I will probably wait until then to make a decision.
Does anyone have experience with AE on the 27 inch iMac with similar specs?
    Many thanks,
    Dan.

Several other drawbacks to the iMac or any other all-in-one computer system:
    1) The GPU cannot be upgraded at all (at least not internally). In fact, iMacs cannot have their AMD (formerly ATi) GPUs disabled at all. And Premiere Pro CS5.x supports only NVIDIA CUDA GPUs for MPE GPU acceleration. (The current iMacs cannot be equipped at all with any GPU besides AMD/ATi.) Premiere Pro is thus forced to run in MPE software-only mode, which is much slower than with GPU acceleration.
    2) No iMac has any room at all whatsoever for more than one single fast internal hard drive. Unfortunately, the interface that the iMac employs, SATA, is only a half-duplex interface (which means that data transfers can only move in one direction at a time). But video editing requires a disk system that does simultaneous reads and writes - but with only one disk connected only by a half-duplex connection, the system must wait for a given block of read operations to be completed before any writes of a given data can even begin at all. This slows down overall editing and encoding performance substantially.
    3) Additional hard drives can be added externally - but the current external hard drive options available for the iMac are either very expensive or very slow. That's because the iMac has absolutely no USB 3.0 or eSATA capability whatsoever. The iMac has only USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt ports - but external Thunderbolt hard drives still cost nearly twice as much money per GB as other external hard drives, and USB 2.0 is limited in sequential transfers to only around 35 MB/s - far slower than the drives themselves are physically capable of (140 to 188 MB/s). Plus, of course, USB 2.0, like SATA, is only half duplex.

  • Lost special effects sounds from video and no sounds available to reload.

the special effect audio is no longer available to insert into the video.
one of the special effects audio I inserted is no longer playing.

Try doing a reset on the iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

  • Special effect for wedding video

I just started using Final Cut Express 2. I recently shot a wedding video for my daughter and I want to put in a certain special effect. The Bride is sitting on one side of a bench and the groom is sitting on the other side of the bench. They are looking away from each other and they slowly turn and notice each other. Now the effect that I want to do is as they get up and walk toward each other and embrace I want their physical bodies to stay on the bench looking at each other, but I want their transparent (spirit) bodies get up from the bench and walk toward each other and embrace. Does anyone know if I can do this with Final Cut Express and if so how can I do it.
    Thanks for the help
    Bill

Well Bill, there are several ways to do this, but I'll give you the answer that first comes to mind. You'll want to set the same video track over top of itself then bump down the transparency to somewhere areound 50% on the top video feed. Now, because it's the same clip, you'll most likely have "time" to deal with, and by that I mean you run the risk of them getting up in both clips at some point, so what you might want to do with the video clip on the bottom layer is slow down the footage (right click the video feed, click speed and put it down to %60 or something that fits). The transparency of the top clip can be adjusted (I think I'm not at my regular computer right now) by double clicking the clip and going into one of the four tabs at the top and you should have a transparency slider.
FCE2 is an excellent editor to start off with, it can do much more than people give it credit I think. I'll be making the transition to Pro this winter.

  • Video special effect (closeup of earth)

is there anything that that would give the illusion starting in a distant galaxy and traveling through space towards earth. And slowly as you enter earth to start seeing clouds and then have someone focus on top of a mountain? Not sure what this would be call or what type of special effect it would be? Any help is appreciated.

thanks for the responses. I never thought google earth could do this...
well a little more technical... You know how in some movies there is that illusion you are traveling and flying through space as you pass constellations and stars and get clear views of nebulas, asteroids, planets, etc... and then you come to earth enter it and fly through the clouds, an airplane or birds and then focuses on someone out on the street? Well that is what I would like to be be able to do. Give that illusion on a video.
The ideal would be to have two people on top of a mountain and as the camera gets closer for them to just simply be staring at it. Of course the footage to have started back like in the Leo Constellation.
I'll try google earth and experiment. Thanks all for the help. Hope it works and if not I'll be asking again.

How do you do it in iMovie?  I have version 10.0.2

    bubblyxlove wrote:

this 'effect' is basically two... :
    • 'micro-edits' - 1 frame from clip#1, 1 frame from clip#2, repeat a few times.. done. A bit 'fiddly' in iMovie, but possible.
    • 'artificial depth of field'  - have a look:
first the cam is focussed on the girl with the long hair in the background; then, while recording, focus shifts to girl in foreground; then, in the micro-edits, they jump btw., the two focus-levels (plus shift the framing, but that is another story…)
to accomplish that in the same shot (which it is obviously in your demo), you'd need a tilt-shift-effect, or a software which allows to apply 'masks' to moving images to apply blurr to each layer.
=> no way to accomplish that in iMovie.
as Jim already stated: Motion5, or FCPX. And this is no 'push button/done' effect, needs lots of manual adjustments.

  • How to install plugin and exta filter in photoshop cs ? and any special filter for special effects ?

how to install plugin and exta filter in photoshop cs ? and any special filter for special effects ?
kindly recommend me any best one and tel me step by step how i will add more plugins n filters

A Plug_in normally come with an installer or install instructions. Check the documentation for the plug-in you trying to install.  It sounds like you don't know what plug-ins you want to install.  In that case you don't need to install any.  At some point you may read about a plug-in and what it can do and feel you have a need for it.  Then you will have a reason to install a plug-in that is not installed by default.  There may also be a cost involved most worthwhile plug-ins are not free.
Adobe Optional Plug_ins downloads are Plugins Adobe want to remove from Photoshop  and no longer install by default. Also at some point in time these will no longer install into the current Photoshop for Adobe will remove feature or interfaces the use. For example the CS5 optional plugins will install in Windows CS6 perpetual version 13.0.1.3 but not in Subscription version 13.1.2 or perpetual Mac version 13.0.6 fot its 64bit only and the Mac CS5 optional plug-in for Picture package is only a 32bit plug-in.
You will need to keep and maintain old versions of Photoshop if Adobe remove features you use in new versions of Photoshop.
