Videos become single frame when exporting iPhoto album

I've gotten the hang of how to organize pix and vids in an "album" and get them renamed. Now I just want to give those renamed reordered photos on discs to other people that will be on Mac and PCs. This apparently means using the "export" feature, as burning an album directly from iPhoto won't produce a disc usable by a PC.
"Exporting" the album succeeded in making a new folder elsewhere on my computer containing all of the images and it preserved their names. However, I noticed all of the Quicktime and AVI files had very small file sizes. When I double click on a .mov file, for example, it opens in Quicktime but it is now only a single frame. Same is true for the avi files.
Any suggestions on another export setting tweak I need to do to get this right?

You shouldn't have to change it to original though. And if it isn't exporting the actual movie, it should show up as a pic, not have the video icon. I lost important footage from hurricane Ike because I was in a hurry, and trusted the app. Then I go to look at the videos in iMovie, and they aren't even recognized. Current should be whatever it is. Currently that was a video, not an image. Sad.

Grand ideas or major duds...let us try the two different tests to see if we can pin point where the issue originates and its cause....
You may want to work from a copy of the problematic project....See File Menu/Save A Copy)
Open your existing project (the one that is yielding your DV AVI 4:3 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second, and displaying with color issues).
But, do not export this project's Timeline using Publish+Share/Computer/AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard as you have been doing, assumed
with no export settings customization under the Advanced Button of the preset.
    1. Go to Expert workspace File Menu/Project Archiver and its Archive and Copy options. Project Archive the project with the Copy option. This will result in a "Copied....Folder" saved to the computer hard at the location that you designated. Open the "Copied....Folder" to see copies of the source media that went into the project. These copies will represent all the source media that went into Project Assets whether they were used on the Timeline or not. Open each to determine if there is any color issues with any.
    on to second test....
    2. Go to Timeline Menu and select and click on Delete Rendered Files to do just that. Next, render the Timeline content by pressing the Enter key of the computer main keyboard. All video previews generated from Timeline rendering of a SD project are DV AVI files, be the files being previewed photos or videos.
Next, go to the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder (by default in Windows' Document/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0) and open that folder. Play back the preview files there to determine if they have color flaws.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thanks.

In IPhoto 11 I have made an album and rearrange the photosin the order I require them. When export the album to allow me to burn them todisk to be viewed in Windows they do not maintain the same order. What am I doingwrong?

When you sort the Album in iphoto are you sorting manually? Or by date of the photos?
When you sort in the Finder how are are you sorting?
Here's one way to do what you're trying to do:
Create your Album and sort the pics as you want them. Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the Finder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • Making a video with single frames

    Hi,
I'd like to make a video with single frames.
One of my computergames is able to take 25 frames per second (or 30, 40 etc.). The game saves the frames in a folder. For one minute there are over 1000 frames.
Now I need to know, how I can tell After Effects that every 25 frames are one seconds.
I just want to make a movie of this game. This will be the easiest way if After Effects can handle with these single frames.
Is it possible? I will be very happy if some can explain me the way to realise my idea.
    Sincerely,

How to export iPhoto Album in iMAC and have similar folder structure(with Timestamps) which can be viewed in finder
In simple terms, I wanted to view the photos in Windows system, similar strcture of iPhotos

If you want to copy all of your photos to a Windows machine and have them in folders representing the iPhoto Events the were in quickly and easily just do the following:
1  - open the library with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:
2 - COPY the Originals/Masters folder to the Desktop.
3 - copy the Originals/Masters folder to the Windows machine.
This will give you all of your original image file in their Event folder on the Windows machine.
NOTE:  With iPhoto 8 or newer the Event folders in the Masters folder will be titled by date (EXIF) if imported from a camera.  If imported from a folder the event folder will have the same title as the source folder.  If imported singularly or in a group without a folder the title will be a date, either the EXIF date or import date.
With iPhoto 7 (08) and earlier the Event folders in the Originals folder will have the same title as the Event has in the library.
This method would be quicker but not provide the additional metadata you might have added in iPhoto like keywords, titles, descriptions that exporting out of iPhoto with Format=JPEG and the checkboxes selected to include keywords, titles, places, etc, checked.

  • How can you keep the highest iphone 4s Video quality the same when exporting it from iMovie.

How can you keep the highest iphone 4s Video quality the same when exporting it from iMovie.

InDesign's PDF export engine does not transcode your videos, they are embedded exactly as they were in the original file. The Flash Player runtime which displays video inside PDF files may not show a perfect match to Quicktime etc. because most video playback tools aren't designed for a color-calibrated workflow, but they should be close.
The playback quality (blocking and aliasing) will be affected if the clip is not playing at 100% (screen pixels != video pixels) and in PDFs with the standard video player widget, that will only ever happen when you use 'floating window' mode. PDF pages have physical dimensions, so viewing them at "100%" does not make them match screen pixels.
If you don't mind the video clip being smaller than the media annotation in which it's playing, then use my free upgrade to the Acrobat playback widget - VideoPlayerX - which maintains 1:1 pixel scale until the page is zoomed out too far for it to fit. You can install the widget into InDesign so it's used by default when exporting.

I am having an issue exporting the iphoto albums to an external drive. When I do it, it either just drops all the pictures in together or it separates them by events, but my iphotos are arranged in albums, not events so that doesn't help.  Can anyone help with this?
Also, I'm new to mac and i'm noticing iphotos has a lot of limitations...I can't save photos automatically to folders/albums in iphoto bc it doesnt show in the finder, I can't upload to facebook without doing it from iphoto, and I obviously can't save to external drive easily just yet.  Should I just be saving all of my photos in Pictures in the finder? Is there a way you can save them in pictures and then be able to open them in iphotos? I'm getting so frustrated and ready to go back to my PC. =(

    A couple of general comments:
    1. iPhoto is not compulsory. You don't have to use it.
    2. But if you do, then you're going  to need to make a small conceptual leap, and learn just a little.
The Conceptual Leap: Your Files and your Photos are not the same thing. The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
The Learning: iPhoto replaces the Finder (or file browser) for everything to do with your Photo. And I do mean everything. Organising, Editing, sharing with other apps, printing, uploading, whatever are all done either with or via iPhoto. It's you "go-to" for anything to do with your Photos.
The upshot of that is that how (or where) the files are stored doesn't matter - as long as they are safe and backed up - because after importing to iPhoto you never directly access those files again.
So, you want to organise your Photos: do it in the iPhoto Window. Events, Albums, Keywords, and so on. You do all your work via that window or the media browsers that make the Library available in every app in the OS.
So: want to edit a photo, but not with iPhoto? You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
How to access the Photos for whatever reason you may need them see this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
For details of the Export dialogue: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
You can more or less recreate your folder tree in the iPhoto Window - start at the bottom of your tree and drag  folder of images to the Albums Heading. iPhoto will import the images and make an album of them. Then File -> New Folder and drag the Album to that. Folders can hold nested folders and Albums. And so work from there.
But if your folder tree is date based that's a bit pointless, as the Calendar search and Smart Albums make it pretty redundant. With these you can find any photos from a specific day, week, month, year or date-range in the Library.
If the folder tree is theme based, then keywords will a more effective way of working.
And Albums are more flexible that folders in the Finder, as an image can be in any number of Albums and use no extra disk space whatever.
So, it's a whole new way of working with photos for you.
    To your specific questions:
I am having an issue exporting the iphoto albums to an external drive. When I do it, it either just drops all the pictures in together or it separates them by events, but my iphotos are arranged in albums, not events so that doesn't help

But given the above... why are you doing this? You're defeating the non-destructive workflow by doing it. Are you trying to back up?
.I can't save photos automatically to folders/albums in iphoto bc it doesnt show in the finder,
Not clear exactly what you're asking here, but does the above open some ideas?

and I obviously can't save to external drive easily just yet.
Yeah you can but what exactly are you trying to save, and, again, why? Different purposes have different workflows.
Should I just be saving all of my photos in Pictures in the finder?
That's a personal choics, but not if you plan on using iPhoto. And as I started with iPhoto is not compulsory... As to why you shouldn't with iPhoto:
For more on iPhoto and file management see this User Tip:

    Reasons for bothering to learn...
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • Adio and Video not in sync when exporting QT Movie

    Hi guys,
I'm having a very strange problem here. I'm using FCS2 and have edited a sequence in FCP using HD720p. In Final Cut Pro, everything is fine, I can play the sequence and the adio matches the video as expected.
When I export the sequence to a QuickTime movie, the final movie has the adio way out of sync from the Video. I have searched through this boards and noticed some other users having the same problem, but couldn't find a solution for it.
Does anyone know what would be the problem, and how I could solve this ?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Stefaan

    Hi,
Well, I could try, but I'm not 100% sure that this was the exact source of the problem.
The source media where Screen Captures taken with iShowU, which I was going to use to create a video podcast with. The ScreenCast was recorded using the HDTV 720p codec with 25 frames and 44,0 KHz audio. I imported those clips into FCP6 and noticed that the Sequence preset had 48,0 Khz audio instead, so I imported every source clip into Soundtrack Pro to convert the audio back to 48,0 KHz.
I guess that is where it went wrong somehow. Since at some point FCP indicated that one of the source clips had 44,0 KHz audio and not 48,0 KHz audio ( though in SoundTrack it reported 48,0 KHz ).
I imported the stuff back into FCP and noticed that now the audio of the clips was 48,0 KHz audio, so I was ready to go. I did the cut in FCP and audio was perfectly in sync with the video. Upon export to a QT Movie ( Self Contained or Reference, immediately from FCP or through Compressor 3 it didn't matter ) the sound seemed to be out of sync after a period of time. By the end of one 15 minute clip the sound was about a minute off, which is unusable for a screencast.
Thanks to a suggestion here I exported the original clip from within FCP to a new QuickTime movie containing only the audio, and one containing only the video portion. I dragged those two on a new Sequence and did the cut again.
Once that was done, the export was perfectly in sync.
My guess is that it went wrong in Soundtrack somewhere, and not really in FCP. But I'm not 100% sure though.
I hope this helps for some others who might have a similar problem.
    Regards,
    Stefaan

  • Exporting iphoto album to external hard drive.

    Hello,
I'm trying to export an iphoto album to an external hard drive that shows up on the left side (side bar) of finder. If I copy and paste the album, the pictures are rearranged.
Is there a way to drag and drop the album directly into the external hard drive?
Side question: Is there a way to add iphoto or imovie to the side bar of Finder under 'places'?
If there is, it seems this would be an easy way to access a specific album in iphoto and directly drag and drop it from a listing in Finder to the external hard drive listed in Finder's side bar 'devices' category.
    Thanks

    PWpw:
First, you don't need to go into the iPhoto Library package to get access to your photos for use outside of iPhoto. Read Terence Devlin's treatise on file access. It has all you need to know.
The pictures, when exported to the external HD, are viewed using the Finder and can only be viewed by title or date. If you want your photos to be in a particular order, you will need to rename them in iPhoto using the Photos->Batch Rename-Title to Text with the sequential numbering box selected. Then export them to the EHD using the File->Export->File Export menu option with the option to use the title as the new file name. You photos will then be in the order you want when viewed alphanumerically in the Finder.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
