Videos converted in QTPro 7.5 'cannot be played on this iPod'

I recently purchased Quicktime Pro 7.5 with one of the primary intended uses of it being to convert videos for my 30GB Video iPod. I've long just used the free applications available in Windows, but finally decided to try doing it in OS X.
The files I have are primarily DVD-resolution (720x480 or 640x480), and when I run them through Quicktime Pro's 'Movie to iPod' option the files that come out are beautiful and play fine in iTunes, but when I try and copy them over to my iPod I get a message that says the files weren't copied because 'it cannot be played on this iPod'.
It seems to me that 'Movie to iPod' should be converting over a file that would play (and looking at the specs- 640x480 h.264, AAC stereo mix, ~1500 kbps) I would think that it would- but it's just not wanting to work. Am I just missing something really simple here???

So when you play them after exporting in QT and do get info what are the codecs and bitrates?
If you want to have life easier use MPEG Streamclip, open, select export to MPEG-4 and pick a preset from the iTunes button and you will be happy. And it also does batches and you may find it is also faster.
And it is free.

  • "Video was not copied  because it cannot be played on this Ipod"...help!!

I recently tried syncing a video to my Ipod touch 2nd gen and it displays the message "video was not copied because it cannot be played on this Ipod" in Itunes. I have looked everywhere for an answer and nobody seems to have the same problem. I've tried restoring my Ipod and stuff, nothing seems to work. Can someone help?

Since upgrading to ios4 I have been having problems with my itouch. Now some pod casts will not download. Some, like BBC Radio 4 Friday Night Comedy, I have been downloading and playing for months without any problem. I now get the message "cannot be played on this ipod". I have not tried downloading through itunes but this doesn't really help me as I like to download podcasts at coffeshops etc as I want to listen to them. I feel that there are serious problems with ios4 that Apple is not addressing. Has anyone come up with a fix as I see others having similar trouble? I have already tried resting the itouch but all I accomplished was losing a lot of data from some of my apps.

  • "Some videos were not copied because they cannot be played on this iPod

I just bought my new 5th generation today, its 30G and i know its video, so why do i get this error message?
Im authorized too. its kind of frustrating!

the ipod video only supports a few different file formats.. mp4 being the most popular.. if the file is not mp4 you need to convert the file..
you can find that software at www.versiontracker.com

  • I just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios5, and updated to itunes 10.5. when isynced my music files, ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod.help

i just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios 5, and updated to itunes 10.5. but when i synced my music files, ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod. but those are the same files that i have when i was using the old 4.1 version and its syncing just fine.. the itunes advanced tab "create iphone or ipod version" is not working either so i cant convert it to be xferred and synced. what can i do to have my video files synced?

i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

  • Video "cannot be played on this ipod"

    Hi there,
I'm unable to play mp4 files (taken from Google Video) on my iPod. The message I'm getting is that "the file was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod."
I see similar topics on the group, but have yet to find an answer. I'm trying to manually manage the content on my iPod, so I'm a little unsure if things need to be synched up first.
Google Video help didn't assist me too much.
    Suggestions?

Do you have a video iPod? Also did you try right clicking the videos in iTunes and using the Convert to iPod function on them?

  • I got a new iPod nano 7th gen., but when I tried downloading a video from my iTunes library a message popped up that said: Some of the videos in your iTunes library cannot be copied to your iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod.

I got a new iPod nano 7th gen, but when i tried downloading a video from my iTunes library a message popped up that said: Soem of the videos in your iTunes library were not copied to yor iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod. What should I do?

I kept having a similar problem - 3 out of the 10 videos I had on iTunes wouldn't sync. They were in the right format and I KNEW they worked on my iPod because I'd RECORDED them on my iPod. I finally figured out what to do! Go to the movies in your iTunes library. Click on one that does not sync. Click on "Advanced" at the top of iTunes and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Once that's finished, be sure you delete the old version so you don't keep getting the error (or have 2 copies of the same video) and sync. This should eliminate the problem. At least it did for me!

I purchased a video from iTunes but it will not sync to my iPod.  I get a message stating that the video "was not loaded to the iPod because iyt cannot be played on this iPod."  I tried to use the "create an iPod version" but the command is grayed out

I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

  • file was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod

    Hi,
I'm a complete newb with the first generation iPod Touch. It's my wife's and I don't use it but I wanted to experiement with giving her access to some movies. As an experiment I've encoded 1 chapter of a movie on my Linux box using Handbrake using the iPhone & iPod Touch preset. The file is about 7MB. It plays fine on the Linux box. I've copied it over to my Windows machine, have my wife's iPod Touch hooked up and it's visible in iTunes. I select the video directory for the iPod in iTunes and then try dragging the video file into iTunes. At this point I'm presented the message:
<file> was not copied to the iPod <iPod name> because it cannot be played on this iPod.
In searching the forums it seems that one potential solution is to choose Advanced->Create iPod or iPhone version which unfortunately is grayed out an unselectable. I suspect that this is because I don't have the video file inside of iTunes, but I'm not sure about that.
When I choose Library->Movies I just get a few options about renting and downloading that take me to the iTunes store.
How do I get this video into iTunes so that I can try to get it onto the iPod?
    Thanks,
    Mark

As a follow-up I talked to my son who has an iPod and he tells me that, assuming I understood him correctly, when I open iTunes and choose Library->Movies I should see something like a file browser, and that when I drag the video from my desktop into iTunes I should see it there in the browser.
I currently am not seeing anything that looks like a file browser, but something more like an adversitisement for capabilities of iTunes and the iTunes store. I've got a green shopping bag that has some text to the right saying 'Download movies' and to the right of that some green tickets to the right with text that says 'Rent movies'.
I understand that I want to use the iTunes converter in the advanced menu, but I haven't figured out how to use that on a random file like the m4v file on my desktop.
    Thanks

  • My MP3s cannot be played on this iPod?

I just bought the newest-generation red 16GB iPod. I have a song that was NOT purchased in iTunes but that PLAYS in iTune, and which "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod."
The song is an unprotected 160 kbps 44.100 kHz MP3 file--looking quickly I cannot tell in iTunes if it's variable rate.
I read some other forum questions and tried re-creating my iTunes library (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451) to no avail. I've also seen suggestions for converting the file format--especially when it comes to video, but also for some reason when it comes to MP3s. A) This seems silly, especially in light of the fact that B) the only option I seem to have is Apple Lossless, rather silly considering I'm converting from the lossiest of file formats.
To reiterate--this music was NOT bought in iTunes, then burnt and imported. This is a regular old (and I mean old) MP3 (MPEG-1, Layer 3) audio file.
Any help in keeping my temper in check and chucking my now largely useless iPod (it's happening with a LOT of the music I want to import) out the window would be MOST welcome.
I'm running build 8.0.0.35 on Windows Vista.

Thanks for the suggestions Jacob. I just tried the Convert ID3 Tags -- trying a few different options with no luck.
By iTunes MP3 converter, I'm not sure if you're referring to a feature inside iTunes -- which I don't seem to have (the only option is "Convert to Apple Lossless," which does work by the way but just seems awfully silly) -- or some external application. Could you clarify?
Many other MP3s work. I'm trying to analyze the differences between the ones that work and the ones that don't and have yet to see a real pattern. It seems more likely to happen with variable-rate encodings, but even that's not consistent...
I will say this--the ones that don't seem to be older MP3 files. Which kinda makes me wonder if it's not ID3-related... Do you have specific suggestions for which options I should try out with the "Convert ID3 Tags" option?
    Thanks again!

  • Movie "cannot be played on this iPod"

My son just purchased the movie Chip & Dale from the US iTunes store at Movies>Short Films>Disney>Chip an' Dale. I try to sync to the iPod, and get a message that says "Chip an' Dale" was not copied to the iPod ... because it cannot be played on this iPod. I have iPod 5.5 80GB Video AAC/MP3 Player.
I purposely purchased the very latest iPod able to play video. If the movie is sold in the US iTunes store the what iPod do I need to play it?

If it was purchased via iTunes DRM will prevent it from being converted in any manner...nor should it need to be converted. Anything purchased via iTunes SHOULD work on the latest iPods.
I know we say this alot, but it really does help in many cases...
Have you tried the Five R's?
    Good luck.

  • My itunes wont sync some of my tv shows to my ipod classic. It says content cannot be played on this ipod. I bought the tv shows on itunes so they should work on my ipod.

I recently bought some new tv shows on itunes and they will not sync to my ipod classic. A alert window keeps popping up saying that these new tv shows and their content cannot be played on this ipod. I thought this was a little weird since all of my other tv shows will sync but not these ones. If someone could help me fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The explanation I immediately have is that you bought the HD version of your TV show.
HD videos are not able to be synced to iPod classics, which is unfortunate.
The bright side is that that means you can spend less money on your videos since standard definition (SD) videos cost almost half as much as HD.
You should still be able to play these videos on your computer, just not your iPod.
If you want a refund, you may want to try to contact Apple and they might give you iTunes store credits. You can read other posts on that and others' experience.
But the rundown is to go into iTunes, look at your Account. You can do this by going to the iTunes store and signing in, then clicking on your email address in the corner. Once you are viewing your account, scroll to your purchase history and click see all. Once you find the order, click on "Report a Problem". You should be able to email someone at Apple. In my experience with this, they are very understanding and will get you a refund or new iTunes store credits.
    I hope this helped.

  • One of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the ipod because they cannot be played on this ipod

i have been trying to figure what the problem with my ipod touch is, im downloading songs from a different source and not itunes store, recently i have had a msg being displayed at the end of synching 'some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the ipod because they cannot be played on this ipod'. however the songs play fine in itunes.
i have re-installed itunes several times, deleted all my music and iported it again. retored my ipod and still i have the same msg. its only stating 8 songs so far that cannot be copied onto my ipod. please can someone help as ive tried everything that i can possibly do. thanks.

    Hello mobyash,
Have you tried converting each of these 8 tracks to a different file format and seeing if they will then sync to your iPod.  See this Apple support document for information and instructions on how to convert a song to a different format.

  • (Item) was not copied to the iPod (Name)'s iPod Touch because it cannot be played on this iPod

Last week I purchased Star Wars the Clone Wars: Season 5 off of the iTunes store. I have purchased all previous seasons over the years and they have been able to play on my iPod. But when I purchased this new season, whenever I try to add the episodes to my device, an error comes up saying: "(Episode) was not copied to the iPod "(Name)'s iPod Touch" because it cannot be played on this iPod. This has never happened to me before, and I am very confused, and a bit frustrated. Does anyone know what this means and if there is a fix to it?

    Greetings Smallen8,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that while trying to sync a video from iTunes to your iPod touch, you receive an alert that the video cannot be played on your iPod. This can happen when you attempt to sync a HD video to your device. Please refer to the attached article for more information.
iTunes: Sync purchased HD videos to iPod or iOS device - Apple Support
When you try to sync a purchased HD video that isn't optimized for your device, you may see a message like this one:
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are offered in 720p or 1080p1 and are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.
    Cheers,
