Videos from Websites

New iPhone user. I go to a couple of woodworking sites that have instruction videos. I touch the link, that page opens, andin the ara where the video should be playing I get a blue cube with a question mark. Why won't those videos play. Same thing on ESPN.COM and a few other sites Thanks for any help. Rick

Welcome to the forums.
As others have noted, you can't play those in Safari. All is not lost, however.
(All instructions for PC -- find equivilent Mac type things on the internet). On your home computer get Downloadhelper for Firefox (the only browser you should be using :>). Now go to those sites and download the flash videos (FLV format). Use FFMEG to convert to WMV (instructions here: http://worldtv.com/blog/guidestutorials/flvconverter.php ).
Finally, bring into an MPEG4 conversion program (email me for details -- I am forbidden to mention here: mike at kelleytown dot com) and convert to MPEG4. Load into iTunes and copy to your phone.
It seems like a lot of steps but I did this one time while composing a message of about this length -- so no time at all (maybe less than 30 seconds for a five or ten minute video). It gives you flash videos on your iPhone, albeit not on the fly as it would be if you could directly address them.
Or wait until about April, when my SWAG is the third parties should have a browser or plugin available to view flash directly (but my method will still let you always have the videos even if you can't get to the page or otherwise connect).

  • Can't view photos or stream videos from websites on iPad 3

When I go to a website with safari, I can't stream video or view photo galleries.  It tells me that I need adobo flash player.  That is not supported for this device.  How do I see photoographs or stream video from websites??

Jenpre.... keep your head down in that hurricane, and good luck. I hope it moves away soon for you all.
When I say "more modern", from what I've read many sites recognise that Flash can be a problem on mobile devices (phones and tablets) because it's very power hungry. So, if I understand things correctly, many sites are putting up html5 versions, which is supposed to be much easier on computers / devices. Quite oftne when I go to a site on my iPad it auto-diverts to the "mobile" version of the site, and I haven't found a single case where I can't see a video. To be truthful, even if not directed to a mobile version, I don't have much trouble with any of the sites I visit..... I can see most videos and pretty much all graphics, the same as I can on my Mac, which does run Flash.
Still, I'm sure a computing expert will know much more.
    Good luck in that hurricane....
PS... there are quite a few good hurricane tracking Apps you know....

  • AirPlay to stream videos from websites

I have an iPhone 4 that I just recently upgrade the iOS to 4.3 and I also have atv2 that it upgraded as well. I'm trying to stream some videos from a website and it only let's me stream the audio but ther is no picture on the tv. I thought with the new update of the iOS 4.3. Apple said that it was able to stream videos from websites and third party apps. Does any one know how this suppose to work?

The website must be AirPlay compatible to get both video and sound. YouTube should be. The same applies to 3rd party apps. A 3rd party app must be updated by the app developer to be AirPlay compatible.

There may be a couple Apps that may help, but I understand they don't work very well.  The best solution would be to contact the owners of the websites and let them know they need to update their site.
The alternative I use, is to download the problem video onto my computer, and convert it to M4V or MP4 format using a program like HandBrake <HandBrake>.  Then it can be added to iTunes and synced with the iPad.

  • My iPad recently stopped running video from websites and itunes store samples

my ipad won't run video from websites (ex. CNN just shows a still and no way to start), youtube just has the spinng timer as does itunes when I'm trying to get a song sample. Suggestions? These worked fine amonth ago.

Close all apps in the recents tray and reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Close every app. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Watching videos from websites or email

Is there any way to download and watch videos from websites or email on the iPhone? When I click the link it says Safari cannot download the file. Just wondering if there is an update or application I can download.
    Thanks in advance,
    Keith.

Not currently, the videos you're trying to watch are most likely flash and the safari browser for the iPhone just doesn't support it.... Its possible that its not flash and the video just happens to be a codec that the phone doesn't recognize. But so far, the only video from websites that ever worked on the iPhone we're quicktime videos. Lol no surprise there.
    Anyways, I hope I've helped.
    Take care!

  • None of the quicktime videos from websites play anymore. This started yesterday. Before that I could play them all. Now none of them work. Has anyone had this problem? How did you fix it? Thanks in advance for the help!

    Did you try
    1, resetting the device
2, deleting all cookies / history items of Safari?

  • Screen dimming & going to sleep when watching videos from websites

when clicking on a video from websites or from news readers (eg. Focus or Stern) this doesn’t prevent TP to dim the screen and even go to stand-by/sleep after the time set in the TP configuration. So you have to touch every now and then in order to keep it running.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

yeah noticed this last night when being v lazy and watching a load of stuff in bed, kept having to tap the screen which would inadvertantly click some element of the app or webpage that launched the vid, could do with the dimmer not kicking in when video of any sort is being played.

  • Playing videos from websites

I've had no luck trying to play news videos from my local tv websites, using Safari or Firefox. QT won't open them, nor will flip4 mac, windows media player. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? DThank you.

  • Cisco E4200v2 crashes regularly, especially during streaming videos from websites

    Hi,
I have a new Cisco E4200v2 which is regularly crashing since day1. I tried many forum suggestions and posts however no luck please help.
    Home setup
    1 desktop wired
1 laptop connected via 2.4 GHZ wifi
2 IP security camera connected via wifi
1 Android Phone (HTC Desire HD) and this is used by my dad to stream news videos, 2.4 GHz
1 Android phone, connected via 5 GHZ  (occasionally)
1 iPhone 4, connected via 2.4 GHZ (occasionally)
1 Android media player, connected via 2.4 GHZ, steams HD videos from desktop
1 VOIP device however it is not active always (used 1-2 hrs a day)
Most of the time crashes while video streaming.
    Router settings
Both 5 ghz and 2.4 ghz are WPA2, 20 HZ only
    Firmware Version: 2.0.37
    I have tried following
Changed MTU to 1480.. if I change MTU to 1400 nothing works so I have realised 1480 is efficient for my network, actually 1500 is also works however I read on the forums that lowering the MTU gives stability
    Changed 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi channel to 11
Changed 2.4 ghz to G only
    30-30 reset
Please help. It hurts to spend on a new router and it does not perform.

They look like Windows Video to me - the second site, at least, works with Flip4Mac (free plugin). I couldn't get the first one working either. It may be a newer version of the WMV specification than Flip4Mac will support.
