Videos imported with iphoto are screwed up/missing frames

The .Mov files I imported from my point and shoot camera into iphoto turn out screwed up when I play them back in quick time or real player. Its not the files themselves because they play perfect on my camera. They're getting screwed up during the import somehow. Do I need to use another program/better version of iphoto or what?

I was just able to use image capture to download them. Same problem. But it is a new camera I find it hard to believe its taking corrupted video when it looks so good on the camera.
When it plays in quicktime or real player its as if the play head keeps skipping, and then it will play in slow motion and skip again.

  • Hello, is there a way for making a photo transparent with iPhoto are another software?

Hello, is there a way for making a photo transparent with iPhoto are another software?

Not with iPhoto, but different apps have different capabilities.
There are a couple of considerations: How is this transparent image to be used? In a Deskop Publishing environment something like Pages' Instant Alpha might be useful. Or if you're trying to overlay one image on another on a photograph then some editor that supports layers would be required.
Further, Jpegs as a format doesn't support transparency so you'll need to work ina  file format that does.
But if you can explain what you're hoping to do we might be able to point you in a more useful direction.
In order of price here are some suggestions for editors:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Videos Imported from iPhoto Cannot Play in Photos

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Photos and accepted the default setting to convert my iPhoto library to Photos/iCloud format.  All went fine without errors and I see that Photos created an entire duplicate on the iPhoto library.
The problem is I cannot play any videos in Photos that came from iPhoto.  I get a dialog message indicating "Cannot Play File,  Photos cannot play this video. Do you want to try opening it in QuickTime Player?"   Similarly, Quicktime Player reports it cannot play the file and prompts "To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More."
The videos where imported to iPhoto from my iPhone 6.  There does not seem to be a difference between standard video or slow motion video files.
    My software versions are;
    Mac OS X: 10.10.3 (14D136)
    iPhotos: 9.6.1 (910.42)
    Photos: 1.0 (209.52.0)
    iPhone 6 IOS: 8.3 (12F70)
According to the App Store, my system is fully up dated.  How can I restore the videos to work in Photos?  Is there another method for importing the iPhoto library into Photos?
    Thank you,
    Jeff

Thanks for that. Good to know.
Just to add my own two cents to this thread—I have also experienced problems with video files. These fall into two categories:
Videos that were imported as thumbnails only ("Photos cannot play this video because it cannot find the file"). These all seem to be AVI files. I can locate these files in my old iPhoto library, but when I try to import them into Photos, it tells me that this type of file cannot be imported. No error message of any kind was shown during the migration. (This is not at all helpful.)
Videos that were imported, but that won't play in Photos. Photos gives me the option to open them in QuickTime. Depending on the file type, QuickTime does one of two things: (1) Converts it to a format that it can play (which takes ages, and if I save the file, I lose the metadata) Or (2) tells me it can't play it.
There also seem to be files that were converted during the migration. The originals in the iPhoto library are MPG files, while the ones in Photos are MOV files. But they won't play in Photos, and they can only be opened in QuickTime after conversion (within QuickTime).
I've also encountered videos that were shot on an iPhone 4S that won't play in Photos. Not sure what's up with that.
It's important to note that THESE WERE ALL VIDEOS THAT PLAYED JUST FINE IN IPHOTO.
So now I have to go over all my video files (4600 of them) and figure out which ones are problematic (600 AVIs for sure, unknown number of MPGs and MOVs), convert them with Handbrake, import the converted files into Photos, and then manually fix the metadata (date and time, location doesn't bother me so much).
If anyone has any tips that will either spare me this long and tedious process or speed it up somehow, I'm all ears.
Don't get me wrong—I think that Photos is overall waaaaaay better than iPhoto (it's actually usable—I don't have to suffer the spinning beachball for 3/4 of the time it is open). But the migration process is really sub-par. If you're going to just not import a whole bunch of files, at least tell me so I can do something about it.

  • Why?  iPhone 3gs videos import with 2005 timestamp?

Let's say I take 3 pictures and 3 videos today. When I come home and import them to iPhoto, the pictures are correctly organized with the current date, but the videos say 2005, Jan 18 (or something).
    Why is this happening?
(Also, my Sony camera imports pics AND videos with the correct time stamp in iPhoto.)
    Thank you.

    Whatheck,
Thank you! Using Image Capture helped me to figure out the problem. Good idea, Whatheck.
I figured out the problem. A couple weeks ago, I decided to change the time/date format from Gregorian MM/DD/YY to Taiwan's YY.MM.DD, where the first year was 1911 (the foundation of the Republic of China--not to be confused with the Communist "People's Republic", which is China and not Taiwan). So, this is year 99 of the ROC. Videos taken with the calendar set to ROC had MM/DD/0099-like timestamps. All I did was switch back the calendar setting from "Republic of China" to "Gregorian", make a test video, and then plug in the phone. All videos taken during the time the phone was set to ROC were imported AGAIN and re-split. Now everything is fine. (Except the original 2005-stamped imports are still there, taking up a little disk space. If I ever have way too little disk space and way too much time, they can easily be removed. Haha.)
I originally preferred to see ROC dates in iCal. Now that I know it messes up videos, I can live with Gregorian dates. I still don't know why only videos were affected by the calendar selection.
    Thanks again, Whatheck.

  • Lightroom: Capture time for videos imported from iphoto is not showing in metadata

Hi, I imported all my photos and videos from iphoto to Lightroom recently using the iphoto import plugin.  I think all my photos were imported but I noticed that all my videos have no capture time, so they became grouped together in my collections.  But I think I can still see their capture time in the "grey text" in each photo.  Why did this happen and how do I resolve this issue?  I really want my capture times to be in the video metadata and also want to see my videos in the right chronological order with my videos.   Strangely, videos imported into Lightroom directly from my camera SD card do not have this issue, only the ones imported from iphoto do.  Thanks!

LR does not properly handle video metadata in general, and in particular it often botches capture time.  Sometimes this works:  Select one video, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and then click Change All (without actually changing Corrected Time).  If that sets the capture time to the correct time, then you can select all the problem videos, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and click Change All.   If you have a small number of videos, you can manually correct the capture time using Edit Capture Time.
Please see this thread in the official Adobe feedback forum for more details, vote on it, and add your opinion: Lightroom: Metadata applied to videos in Lightroom isn't available in other applications

  • Sharing Video Clips with iphoto

When I import video clips into iphoto everything works perfect. I can view and hear video. But when I share or export with QT Pro I lose the audio track. I am using a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera. I have searched and searched but I cannot find an answer to this question. HELP!

Your Sony camera probably make MPEG-1 files and QuickTime (or any app that uses it) can't extract audio from these "muxed" file formats.
Download and install MPEG Streamclip (free). It can convert your .mpg files to other formats (.dv for iMovie or iDVD). Audio track comes along, too.
If your camera creates MPEG-2 formats you'll also need the MPEG-2 Playback Component (sold at the Apple Store for $20).

  • New Imports to iPhoto Are Saving to My External Hard Drive

Recently purchased a Buffalo NAS 2TB external hard drive. I didn't realize at the time of purchase that Apple doesn't support NAS drives; although, I did find ChronoSync software that would allow me to back up my iMac to the Buffalo hard drive.
After a successful backup of music, documents, and photos, for some reason when I upload new pics they are now saved on the Buffalo external hard drive and NOT my iMac which is where they should be going. When setting up the backup to the Buffalo originally, I only selected the folders that I wanted to backup (music, photos, documents, and applications). I made sure I only wanted those backed up; there was no need to backup my entire internal hard drive.
When uploading new pics to iPhoto, I never selected anything to tell my iMac to save all new photos to the Buffalo external hard drive.
So now when I open iPhoto on my iMac, it winds up missing three or four event folders that I recently uploaded (Christmas pics, etc) but when I open the "iPhoto Library" icon on my Buffalo hard drive, it shows everything (even the three or four event folders that my iMac "iPhoto Library" is missing).
Any thoughts of what the problem is? When backing up my iMac, all I wanted to do was save my already existing pictures to an external hard drive. What I didn't want is for the Buffalo hard drive to "save" the entire iPhoto application (which is what I think it did).
With all the problems I've been having with this NAS hard drive, I've since purchased a non-NAS hard drive and will be using Time Machine from here on out! The things you learn......
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Happy New Year!

iPhoto saves the files to the default Library when you import, and the default library is the last one opened.
IF the one on your iMac is the default library and the files are turning up on the back up, the likely candidate for responsibility is the back up app, I'm afraid. I'd check the settings on that.

  • Nikon D90 RAW (NEF) files imported via iPhoto are not recognized

Would appreciate your help.  Just got an iMac.  OS X 10.6.7.   Installed Aperture 3.1.2.  I shoot RAW+JPEGs.  Imported both files fine to iPhoto '11 from my old PC.  When Aperture then imported an Event from iPhoto, I  still see two versions of each shot, but Aperture calls them both JPEG.  On one version the metadata is complete, on the second some is missing (e.g., Exposure Mode, Lens).  Both are shown as 12.2 MP, no matter what.  Can't do any editing this way!  Any thoughts on what might be going on?  Many thanks!    --Bob

I just pickup a D300 and unfortunately Aperture nor iPhoto will not import the picture in the RAW format. Do you know if the RAW format will be updated in the new OS release that is to be announced?
I also contacted Nikon about the Capture NX program that came with the camera and Nikon told me that they are working with Apple to resolve the issues with there program as well.
It would be nice if the Camera venders would work with Apple before introduction to make sure the software is available to support the hardware they introduce..
    Best Regards,

  • Why won't videos sync with iphoto from my mac book pro to my ipad

I have downloaded photos and video taken recently to my mac book pro, however when I sync my iPad to my mac book pro just the photos are imported, the videos are not transferred to my iPad, why?

They need to be in the correct format to play on the iPad 2.  This is 720p H.264 Main Profile 3.1, AAC audio at 128k bitrate stereo.  You can transfer videos to the iPad really easily with Pic Share it.  You just drag and drop them from the Mac to the iPad and the video will show up in your camera roll.  It's a free application.

  • Video import with iMovie 10.0

I'm having trouble importing video since upgrading to Mavericks and iMovie 10.0. I'm using a Dazzle Inc. Hollywood DV device to caputre old VHS tapes from a VCR onto an iMac via firewire cable. This all worked fine with iMovie 9.09. Now the captured video is about 2-3 seconds long for a 1 hr. tape.  It looks the capture function is grabbing a .1sec snapshot every 7 or 8 minutes.

Update: I bought an adapter and FireWire cable and now imovie recognizes the camcorder but... when you import the window says "communication error"!
should I look for another editing software?

  • Problems importing with iPhoto 5

I am having problems importing photos from my Sony DSC-T1 camera.
The import process is very inconsistent. With the first attempt at importing maybe 50% of the images have horizontal lines with color shifts. I will delete the bad imports and start the import process again. This time, of the original bad imports, maybe a third of those will import correctly. The rest will take another two or three import attempts before they import cleanly. In addition new photos will show up between imports that weren't there in the original import.
Help! Whats going on? Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I just read this article and even though your camera is not listed as one of the ones affected, it could still be your problem.
