Videos in Indesign CS5 swf docs not playing in certain browsers

I've included a video in an Indesign CS5 exported swf file. It plays fine on my pc within IE8 but on a macbook with firefox 3.6.13 and safari 4.1.3 the video can be seen, but when you click to play it the page goes white. Any help greatfully received.

I have never had any video problems with Mac/FF/Safari... Did you try to open your SWF from same location that you used with PC? or did you move it to another location for opening it with Mac? If you moved it, did you also move a resources folder where the actual video file is stored?
InDesign does not embedd the video into the SWF.
When you use Safari and some externally loaded element doesn´t work, you probably see that in Activity window (Window>Activity).

  • InDesign CS5.5 does not display fonts correctly

    InDesign CS5.5 does not display Futura fonts correctly. I have removed all versions of Futura from FontBook on my Mac (running Mac OSX 10.7.4) but CS5.5 - Indesign, Illustrator & photoshop - still displays Futura as being open but only InDesign does not display the font correctly. The font displays correctly when I open InDesign CS4 and all other versions of Illustrator and Photoshop.  I really need to use this font. What's going on with InDesign?

    In your first screen shot , there are 2 futura font ,one is Adobe Type 1 font and the second one is True Type, you might have installed both the type of the font on your computer sometime. Now you have removed all the futura font and it is still showing in the Indesign , also the same thing happened with the Minion Pro , seems to me the font cache is not updating.
    First remove the Adobe Font cache's file:-
             At the Finder, choose File > Find.
             Type AdobeFnt.lst, select the system drive, and then press Return.
             Delete all AdobeFnt.lst files found (for example, AdobeFnt10.lst).
    then clear system font cache  :-
    Launch Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities)
    Enter the following command at the prompt and press Return: sudo atsutil databases -remove
    Restart your computer immediately
    and check

  • When I take a photo or video in landscape mode, it will not play back or show in landscape with the phone held horizontally.

    When I take a photo or video in landscape mode, it will not play back or show in landscape with the phone held horizontally. i have an iPhone 5. I think this happened sometime after the last upgrade but I am not sure when. is there a setting on the phone that may have gotten changed somehow?

    Slide your finger up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Controls panel. One button controls orientation lock to prevent the screen rotating as you rotate the phone. You can toggle that control on and off as you need. Slide the panel back down when you are finished with it.

  • ITunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from an external drive (or streamed from other wireless devices). Any solution in sight?

    Video streaming of DRM movies, purchased from iTunes and other vendors, to any iOS device is not working.

    I am not sure if you really understand the issue at hand. Possibly that you are just scanning, not reading the whole text, or simply that you just want to close a thread with your last words or derail it for whatever strange reason. So far you have been more destructive than helpful, but again this could be ignorance at best.
    If you would have had the decency to read the entire thread you would have come to the conclusion that every manufacturer, I came across, has posted FAQ's to this issue but Apple. Find a short excerpt below:
    SeaGate  http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006135en?language=en_US <http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006135en?language=en_US> Playing DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected movies in Seagate Media App Information regarding remote streaming of DRM protected movies. Most forms of DRM (Digital Rights Management) will prevent playing movies on unauthorized devices or from remote storage hosted on wireless drives or NAS drives(Seagate Wireless, Seagate Wireless Plus, Seagate Central or Seagate Personal Cloud). Movies purchased from iTunes can be streamed to iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices which were authorized from remote storage (the video could be selected in Seagate Media App and would be played in a Safari browser), however in iOS 8 this has stopped working. A bug has been filed with Apple, however this functionality has not been restored. Therefore, DRM protected movies purchased on iTunes can no longer be played on devices running iOS 8.
    SanDisk  http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes <http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes> Videos purchased or rented from iTunes will not play in iOS 8 The SanDisk Wireless Media Drive and Wireless Flash Drive support streaming of DRM protected iTunes purchased movie content to authorized devices in iOS 6 and iOS 7 ONLY. The DRM protected content is opened in Safari where the DRM is decrypted and the video is played. iOS 8 issue In iOS 8 Apple device has NOT enabled Safari based DRM decryption. Therefore DRM protected content, i.e. purchased movies or TV shows from iTunes, CANNOT be streamed from the Media Drive/WFD in iOS 8. This issue has been reported to Apple. We do not have any estimated date when Safari will support DRM decryption of iTunes purchased content.

              With the SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive and its companion app, you're free to share and stream high-definition content between your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or Mac devices without a cable connection. Simply connect wirelessly from your iOS device to the media drive and instantly stream your HD movies, browse photos and listen to music from around the house or on the go, while avoiding the common hassles of cables, attachment limits or Internet availability

Here are the remaining issues that we are aware of in the iOS 8 general release: • Video streaming of DRM movies (purchased from iTunes and other vendors): iTunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from AirStash (or streamed from other wireless devices). These movies are digitally protected and the AirStash app sends them to the Safari browser to play (which works for all prior iOS versions). However, in iOS 8, Safari will no longer allow DRM movies to play. These movies will play when the video is transferred to the iPhone/iPad and played in the Apple's Video App or the corresponding App from the vendor.

If this is the case and Apple will not address this issue or fix it since Apple believes that movies should be protected this way, you need to let the community know that movies are restricted this way. Re: Streaming itunes DRM movies to safari on iPad not working - IOS 8 issue? [ Edited ] Options 11-06-2014 03:19 PM - edited 11-06-2014 03:22 PM Actually, this is not something we can NOT fix. It appears that Apple finally fixed an issue they had with their movie DRMs. The files should have never played in the first place. [Edit] If you have an issue with this, you will need to take it up with Apple. Click the Kudos star to say thank you for helpful posts. • Purchased music videos from iTunes but it will not play, no video or sound

    Purchased music videos from iTunes but it will not play, no video or sound. There were several vidoes on the purchase I made and two of the videos will not play the video or sound. I've checked to see if they were waiting for download and nothing is there. Any suggestions.

  • Apple tv is not playing a certain movie on my shared library library, know why?

    apple tv is not playing a certain movie on my shared library library, know why?

    Dear friends,
    Thank you for responding to my problem so promptly. Frankly, I did not expect to hear from people so soon! The fact is that as soon as I posted the question, I was shown a number of similar queries and managed to find the answer. I have to say it's not intuitive! I have an apple TV original version. Apparently I had the ATV on streaming and not syncing. Streaming does not allow you to stream a rental from your computer whereas you can sync and transfer the rental from the computer!
    Thanks again.

  • Firefox 15, Flash 11.4, Windows 7 - html5 videos/swf do not play

    Help me please!  I see that many people have similar issues, but no 2 are exactly alike, but I have tried every suggested solution and nothing seems to work.  Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then nothing worked - no youtube, no flash apps, no swf.  I only use Firefox, but I tried it on IE and Chrome - nothing.  I really just want a solution with Firefox, because it has worked.  In my Add-ons Manager, it shows Shockwave Flash 11.4...and Shockwave for Director.  HOWEVER, when they are enabled I cannot watch ANY youtube videos.  If I disable Shockwave Flash, youtube videos play, except for HTML5 videos.  Regardless if Flash is enabled or disabled, when I go to the Adobe flash test page, it is indicating that I do not have flash installed.  However the Shockwave Player test page, shows that shockwave is installed and working.  I am so frustrated....I have uninstalled and installed so many times, shockwave, adobe, etc. And no matter what I do .swf images/apps do not play at all.  This is the worse, since my work's website (which I maintain) uses .swf.  I did not create them, but would like to see them and it seems to necessary when I try to update the website, because the website maintenance hangs.  Flash never 'crashes'.....

    Here's the report, just with the display device info - let me know if you need anything else (it's really long!)

  • Why does the audio in my .SWF file not play in a Browser?

    I created an .swf file using ffmpeg, containing H.264 video and MP3 audio. The file plays perfectly in VLC but  not in a Browser (Chrome/IE). I tried analyzing the file using a trial version of Flash decompiler. Again, only the video plays. The strange thing is that if I extract the MP3 from the file, it plays perfectly using any of th eplayers. It seems to be a muxing issue which VLC apparently handles, but not the player in the browser! Why? Thanks for any pointers.

    Yeah. Sorry to say this but many people buy the various brands of format converters, which are everywhere on the Web and which also spam these boards – and often find they are not only out the purchase price but that the app created as many problems as it solved.

  • Swf file not playing in browser

    I have a problem with a swf file which will not play in web browser.
    It played fine until I updated my site. I therefore suspected a pathing issue within dreamweaver and looked thorugh that forum for an answer.
    I tried typing the absolute path to the swf file in the browser address bar and found it straight away. When I clicked on it the screen stayed blank.
    I checked the path to the file and the flv file was relative to the document and not the site.
    swf plays fine in flash player, flash, and locally on dreamweaver.
    I moved the swf up the file tree and changed the links accordingly but still would not play.
    I also tried saving it as a new swf from flash, but that doesn't play either.
    I added another swf to the containing folder and that played fine in the browser.
    When I open the fla file in flash it only shows a flv playback movie, not the elements, I think this is because it was created in after effects.
    Here is the link to the containing folder, the swf file is Home_page_movie_V2.swf
    http://www.joinerycadsolutions.com/Flash/01 Home
    I have other swf files playing fine and this swf played ok originally so I still think it's a pathing problem but I am not that savvy on flash and cannot figure it out.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated, just bear in mind my low level of ability.
    Thanks
    Stuart

    The .swf is loading just fine... but it is expecting to load a .flv video file.
    The path inside the .swf to the .flv file is not correct. The path inside the .swf to the .flv file needs to be relative to the .swf as it's located on the Web page, NOT the physical location of the .swf.
    Here is the absolute address of the .flv:
    http://www.joinerycadsolutions.com/Flash/01%20Home/Home%20V1.flv
    Here is a test player using that address:
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/flash/cidm_simple_vid_player.html
    So unless your .swf is broken, it just a pathing issue.
    From an old post:
    Pathing issues
    Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
    You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
    Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
    In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
    So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • SWF does not play after publish.... OS compatibility bug?

    I have embedded SWFs that will not play once the Presenter file is published.  They appear to be "frozen" on the first frame.
    Here's the setup:
    The SWFs are scripted in AS2 (not AS3)
    SWFs are built in Flash Pro CS5 and are published to Flash Player 9.
    They are not Captivate files.
    PowerPoint 2007 (12.0.6535.5002) SP2 MSO (12.6535.5002)
    Presenter 7.0.5 Build 7588
    Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    BUT, I can open the same file on another computer with this setup, and it publishes just fine.

    PowerPoint 2007 (12.0.6535.5002) SP2 MSO (12.6535.5002)
    Presenter 7.0.5 Build 7588
    Microsoft Windows Vista Business
    The only difference appears to be my OS.  Does anyone know of any bugs with Presenter in Windows 7?
    UPDATE:
    As I type this, literally, I got a notice that there's a Presenter 7.0.6 Update. So I went ahead and installed it on the Windows 7 box.  Republished the Presenter course, and wouldn't you know it... the SWFs are now playing!
    The patch says this: The Adobe® Presenter 7.0.6 update resolves Adobe Presenter's compatibility issues with PowerPoint 2010 and some important issues identified in Adobe Presenter 7.0.5 (Although the patch site doesn't bother providing us with a list of what those important issues are! Thanks Adobe, you rock.)
    --- Well, it fixes MY issue for Windows 7/Presenter 7/PowerPoint 2007 too.

    See the updated within the post. Installing the 7.0.6 patch was the fix.

  • Placed .swf does not play correctly

    I have placed a .swf on a page.  When exported to pdf the movie does not play correctly.  It plays correctly before being placed.  I used flash cs4 actionscript 3 to create the .swf.
    I have selected the highest level for pdf when exporting.

    ok!  I figured it out.  This is what is happening.  Apparently when you place a .swf in indesign and make a button on the page to show the movie when clicked and then export to pdf -- there is a time delay from the time you click on the button and the movie starts to play in a floating window.   Its just a few frames of 24 fps movie but that is enought for whatever gaget that reads the movie to miss the first few frames.
    So in effect any info in the first few frames is not read.   So i had a stop on the first frame that was not being read.  I put the stop on frame 7 and now it plays just like I had hoped.
    I hope this helps anybody else out that has had a similar problem.

  • How Do You Insert a Video into InDesign CS5.5

    What application do you use for making the video?
    What are the steps after you make the video to place the video into a web page in InDesign CS5.5?

    InDesign cannot place a video into a web page. You might do that in Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe's premiere program for handling HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
    InDesign CAN place a video into an interactive PDF file or a SWF (Flash Player) file.
    You can create video in many applications including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, iMovie and many more applications.

  • INDESIGN CS5 .SWF files to large

    So, I thought with Indesign CS5 it would be a great idea to do a website with full idesign. This was working great until I realized that as i exported to a .SWF it was 49.9mb. Now i know that this is a large website (almost 70+) pages long. But is there any advice anyone can give me to shrink the file size or was it a bad idea to begin a website in INdesign right now. I know that using flash and .css and all that is the traditional way of doing a website but at the same time I don't like messing with all that code and thought this would be a great way to build a website.
    ANY help would be great because i can't afford to have a 3 and a half minute download time on a website.
    Thanks,
    Justin

    I think I may have responded to this in the community help section, but I'll repeat what I said there. InDesign has some impressive Flash capabilities but using it to create an entire website....no, not a good idea at all.
    The size of the SWF files is a major issue and they are quite simply not suitable for this purpose. Additionally, an entire website in Flash is an SEO nightmare so it won't matter how long it takes to load since nobody is likely to find it.
    Flash should be used judiciously on the web. In fact, I never use it. All that said, the only advice I can offer if you decide to ignore the rest of it, is to export to FLA, open it in Flash Professional and finish it up there.

  • Skin plays fine but swf does not play at all...

    I have tried everything and now have simply exhausted my
    resources...
    Video plays fine in flash cs3 pro, but when I attempt to get
    it to play online (using the swfobject.js script), the skin plays
    (motion in the seek bar - incessant), but not the video.
    [Incidentally, the exact same thing happens when I use the
    video1.html file, for what it's worth].
    When I replace the video file with so_tester.swf, it plays
    properly. This tells me that the html (included below) is right,
    but that there is something wrong with the video itself. I tried
    Import To Stage, Import Video, and Import To Library, to no avail.
    I tried Publish, and Export Movie, to no avail. The flv was made by
    exporting from QuickTime. Could that be the problem?
    Uploaded to the server are: index.html (see below),
    video1.html (not sure if this is needed), video.swf, swfobject.js,
    expressinstall.swf, SkinOverAll.swf, and AC_RunActiveContent.js.
    I have spent countless hours trying to figure this out. If
    someone could please help, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Here is the entire html of the index page:
    <html xmlns="
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xml:lang="en" lang="en">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
    charset=iso-8859-1" />
    <meta name="generator" content="Adobe GoLive">
    <title> title</title>
    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="swfobject.js"></script>
    <script src="AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    language="javascript"></script>
    <style type="text/css">
    body {
    background-color: #ffcc99;
    background-image: url('
    http://www.yoursite/pathToImage.jpg');
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-position: center;}
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div style="position: absolute; top: 50%;display:
    table-cell; vertical-align: middle; text-align: center; width:
    100%; padding: 0;">
    <div id="flashcontent">
    <strong>You need the latest Flash Player, and
    Javascript enabled to view this content.</strong>
    </div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var so = new SWFObject("video1.swf", "myMovie", "NewWidth",
    "NewHeight", "8", "#ffcc99");
    so.useExpressInstall('expressinstall.swf');
    so.addParam('wmode','transparent');
    so.write("flashcontent");
    </script>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    Never mind. I figured it out. Used component inspector to
    solidify the source of the video, and that worked.
