Videos in iPhoto are now all 0:00. Why?

Hi,
I have opened up my iPhoto and all the vidoes that have been imported from my Canon IXUS that were working previously have now been reduced to 0:00. Does anyone have a reason for this and can they help me get them back? It opens in quicktime but the tab along the bottom goes from the start to end in a split second with only the opening frame showing. Help?

Are you able to play the movies when you double click on them in iPhoto? If so and you need to get at them for use outside of iPhoto follow Terence's suggestion or do a File->Export>File Export using the Original format option. That will copy the original .mov file to the desktop.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Try emptying your browser cache more often. If you are using Safari, from the menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Empty Cache
Try a video on FB. If can't stream Flash content, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I assume you want to burn a video DVD that will play in a DVD player on a TV set, correct?
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag movie file into the open iDVD window for iDVD's Media/Photos pane being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
There are a couple of other video DVD authoring application available from the App Store. They don't have the versatility that iDVD has. I've not used any of them so can't comment on their effectiveness. I do, however, believe that there's no app that can do as well as iDVD in creating a prefessional looking video DVD.

That is strange sounds like what happens when you open a die built in autocad, in illustrator. What happens if you paste a CS6 path into CC?

Please try resetting your tools from Tool options.
Open Tool options in PSE status bar. Click on flyout menu and click on Reset All Tools.

Videos on MyIpod are now music!

HI all!
Here I am to tell you about a very strange behaviour in my Ipod.
Suddenly, all previously stored videos has been converted in only music.
Let me be more detailed:
In Itunes, the ipod videos can be played so they are present in the ipod, but if you ask the info, the tag -movie- is not highlighted! The ipod doesn't consider them like movies!
How can I do?
Actually my only solutions is to format everything and re-start again, am I right?

My iPod has done exactly the same thing. What were videos a couple of weeks ago are now only music. Yes, they are defined as music videos, and I open them from "Videos"--music videos on the iPod. They play just fine on the computer, but the iPod thinks they are music only.
What is the solution? Better yet, what is the cause?

I upgraded itunes software and it synced all of our iphones in our family. We are now all receiving each others texts. How do we unsync each others phones?

All of our phones got synced together after doing an Itunes upgrade on line. We are now receiving all of eachothers incoming and outgoing text messages. How do we unsync from each other's phones?

Settings > Messages > Send and Received > Uncheck any number/email that does not belong to the device
Check this setting on any device(s) using the same Apple ID

I downloaded the new Pages and now all my previous documents and new documents come up iridescent?
I looked all over Preferences and Help, but to no avail. How do I go back to the "normal" settings?

Your profile says you're using 10.6.8, the latest version of Snow Leopard, but the question is, how did you get to that version? The problem is not whether or not your system is the current version but how it got there. You must use the combo updater, not the one from Software Update unless it specifically states it is the combo. Software Update will only offer the combo if your system is two or more versions behind.
Also, Pages isn't new. The last major release was over three years ago. The last update was to take advantage of Lion features. Pages 4.1 will run in Snow Leopard, but it isn't necessary. Many prefer to continue with 4.0.5.

Sync'd iphoto and now all music GONE

So... my boyfriend decided to put some pictures on our iPod. When he did so, it erased all of our music and videos and replaced them with the pictures. Now every time we plug out iPod into the computer, it re-syncs the pictures and those are the only items on there... How can I fix this problem? I would like to rebuild our Music but I don't want it to be wiped out by the pictures each time I plug it into the computer... PLEASE HELP

I just upgraded to the new Photo and find a few things missing. May find more later. My Events are gone. Also, the Albums and Projects that I created that were on the left side tab of iPhoto are now gone. Where are they?

Yes, it's a mess for sure, and I've lost confidence in it for now. First attempt, 5 photos came up missing. Delete and start over, then after second attempt 18 photos go missing. Even one single missing photo is a real confidence breaker for me.
After conversion, and activation of the sidebar, all of my Events were migrated into a single "Photos" Album called "iPhoto Events". Why would I want "legacy" Events segregated into one big Album? What the heck am I supposed to do with that? That's useless if new photos are going to be organized in some other way moving forward. I cannot imagine new photos automatically putting themselves into a new Event inside of the "iPhoto Events" Album... because they won't. I'll be stuck with my old iPhoto Events in this one Album, and the new stuff organized as per Photos. Weird, just weird.
Also, in the "all photos" view, there are dates that are just blank. I think I know why. In iPhoto, I merged various photos into single Events. For whatever reason, within the Library, this left empty folders behind. iPhoto's fault, not mine... I simply dragged & dropped photos to combine Events. Then during Photos import/conversion these empty folders got converted into "blank" days within Photos... this is simply ridiculous. When programming for an import, you'd want to ignore a folder if there are no files inside of it, not convert it into a block of photos that contain no photos. It's nonsensical... you cannot have an iPhoto Event with zero photos, yet that's what was converted over. LOL.
I'm certainly not going to invest the time into cleaning up and moving hundreds of Events and 18,000 photos if Photos can't even do a simple library conversion. Heck, what about the dozens of photos that my iPhone 5S fails to geotag for whatever reason? Can't edit geotags. Can't bulk edit meta data. These are pretty basic functions. Total fail.
I'm going back to iPhoto for a while, hoping Apple eventually cleans up this mess into something usable.

Videos in iPhoto are not iOS compatible

When I've imported videos shot on my Lumix camera to iPhoto, it imports and plays them, but iOS devices won't import them when iTunes syncing. Clearly, they are incompatible.
"Get info" shows the offending videos are 1920 × 1080, H.264, Linear PCM, Timecode, HD (1-1-1).
Is there a way of converting the videos to make them iOS compatible from within iPhoto?
(I'm guessing I'll need to convert the videos before importing them to iPhoto in future.)

All my videos (.mp4) seem to have been corrupted by the upgrade. I get an error that says:
"An invalid sample description was found in the movie."
Exporting the video to the desktop and using quicktime produces the same response. I opened the video in VLC and sound doesn't work!
help! have I lost all my videos?

it looks like qt 7.2 broke a lot of things for a lot of people.
Should that make me feel better or worse?
To get your videos back, and at least playable, rename all your files extensions.

Update: We have a fix for this - shortly after posting this the user ZioPRoTo posted a little tip in the comments section below. Essentially you need to rename all of your .mp4 files so they end in .3gp - and it seems to work so far for everyone who's tried it. Not sure why though.
