Videos in my iphoto I can't see

Help! When I uploaded my pics and short videos from my camera to my iphoto, which it automatically does, the videos show up with a blank screen and I cannot see them. I tried to move them into quicktime but it wouldn't play. Only a white screen. They gave me suggestions to downloading another app in order to transfer these videos but do I really need too. I actually downloading DivX player but it does nothing and I can't even figure out how to use it. Is there an easy way to see my videos and possibly send them over email?
Any suggestion would help. I am new to MAC.
Sooz
Thanks

Hi, Sooz. iPhoto doesn't handle video clips — it's for still photos only.
Open the Image Capture application in your Applications folder. If you get an alert box saying no Image Capture device is currently connected, just ignore the box and leave it displayed. Choose "Preferences" from the Image Capture menu. In the Preferences window, click the Camera tab, then pull down the "When a camera is connected, open..." menu and select "Image Capture". Close the Preferences window; Image Capture will quit by itself.
Now whenever you connect your camera to the computer, Image Capture will open, and you'll have a variety of options for downloading pictures and movies from the camera to any location you choose on your hard drive. Select only the movies from among the previews shown in Image Capture's window, and download those to your Movies folder (which is in Hard drive > Users > your account folder). After doing that, quit Image Capture, open iPhoto, and import the still pictures normally into your iPhoto Library. If iPhoto also seems to import the movie files, just select and delete them from within iPhoto — you won't (as you've discovered) be able to do anything with them in iPhoto, and they'll just bloat your library with useless bulk.
To view your movies outside of iPhoto, use iMovie or any other video-viewing application that can open them.
Never use the "Erase camera contents after transfer" option in iPhoto or the "Delete items after downloading" option in Image Capture: these options will delete the images and/or movies from your camera card before you've had a chance to confirm that they've been successfully imported/downloaded and are usable. This is a really foolish idea that should probably never have been offered in either program.

  • IPhoto suddently can't see my pictures...

I've hunted around the forum a bit and haven't found a question that fits my situation.
Yesterday I launched iPhoto and found that the application wasn't showing most of my photos. My library which normally has 3,000+ pictures was only showing 800 or so (all some of the first photos I imported) All my albums are there as well as the books I created, just no photos in any of the later albums. Interestingly, the thumbnail page images of the books I created show the pictures, but the edit screen shows gray blanks.
I tried rebuilding my libaries - no luck.
I tried one of the recommendations to move my library file to the desktop and reimport my images (I didn't describe this right, but it is one of the commoon recommendations) and I must not have moved the right file, because I did not see the same file options when I option clicked that the screen shot showed. The file options were the same as any other file.
Help! I have dozens and dozens of albums and I'd hate to have to recreate them all - especially if I am dealing with a corrupted file to begin with!
This occured just after I edited a photo and bought cards. I seem to remember the application having a hard time quiting and having to force restart.
    Thanks
    -Peter

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you run Disk Utility and verified the hard drive? It sounds like it may be something more than just iPhoto causing problems but a disk problem. If the verify indicates repairs are necessary you'll have to boot into the system install disk that came with you Mac and, in the first window after the language selection window, launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
How much free space do you have on your boot drive?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • 60G video iPod with +15G free can't see iPhoto albums, -50 error

Everything had been running smoothly in my 60G video iPod with photos and videos and music. With more than 15G free on my iPod, space isn't an issue. For reference, I have iPhoto 6 and iTunes 6, both completely updated (as is QuickTime). I've deleted the iPod photo cache on the hard drive. And, because of a previous iPhoto problem, I've rebuilt my system from the hard drive up recently.
Here's the problem: I don't know why iTunes "suddenly" can't see the iPhoto albums. It can see the iPhoto library, but won't let me select specific albums. I don't want all my photos on my iPod, plus it's a +30G photo library so it wouldn't all fit anyway. All I know about what happened right before this problem is, and I quote:
    Q: "What happened?"
A: "That beachball thing spun for like 5 minutes so I restarted."
Q: "What application were you using at the time?"
    A: "Who knows?"
(To which I'm desperately thinking "Count to 10, you're the adult...count to 10, you're the adult...")
In hunting around on my hard drive, I can also see that there are a bunch of random gifs and jpegs in the Pictures folder. It looks like the Apple website blew up, piece by piece (a gif for each tab across the top, for example) along with some widgets and something I don't recognize.
After deleting my iPod photo cache, I could get iTunes to start updating the iPod again, but now it doesn't see anything but the whole iPhoto library. I tried selecting the whole library, but I got the -50 error again (can't update, error unknown). I use the iPod extensively as a traveling photo album, and now (because I deleted the iPod photo cache I assume) I don't have ANY pictures.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Fixed!
Adding new photographs to my Library seems to have sorted the problem out. So if anyone else has this problem, a holiday to Amsterdam is the cure

  • When I load pages with video contents like m3u8 I can't see the content from firefox because it says "video format or MIME type is not supporte"

When I open a link like this:
    http://video.gazzetta.it/puntata-milan-kaka-fa-fuori-faraone/4494065a-13b0-11e3-a11e-38d7c867cc00
I can't see the video content and I get this error message: video format or MIME type is not supported
    I have adobe flash updated
    I tried to reset firefox
    I have vlc installed
I can correctly see this link with internet explorer. This is a PARADOX!
    Can somebody help me?

I see that message when the Flash plugin is disabled.<br />
If the Flash plugin is enabled or set to click-to-play then a Flash player plays the video.<br />
Otherwise a video tag is created with a link to an m3u8 stream that Firefox apparently doesn't support.
You can try to disable all other plugins that deal with media files (start with VLC) to see if that helps.

  • There are some videos or images that I can't see with Firefox (4.0.1) but with Explorer I can

Many videos apear as a solid block, withut the arrow head or any other thing to star wieving it. If I access the site with the Explorer browser, the video can be see without problem.
I had rewieved all the settings and I do not find nothing that could control this.
The site I put below is only an example
    ???

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flash Block</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • IPhoto 4 - Can't see pictures to organize them

I just ordered iLife '08. In the meantime, I am using iPhoto 4. Things have been running smoothly for years. Today, that changed. For some reason when I am working with my photos in the "organize" setting I can no longer see all the pictures in any particular folder. Instead, I see just one picture similar to what is seen in the "edit" mode. This new problem limits my ability to work with my pictures. Especially since there are no "previous" and "next" arrow key options at the bottom of the "organize" view. I imagine I hit a key accidentally. I just can't find how to bring back all my pictures so I can see them in the "organize' view the way I use to see them. Any ideas on how to do so? P.S. When I click on my different folders in iPhoto sometimes, just briefly, I am able to see all the pictures in that folder. Then the pictures are replaced by only one picture from that particular folder (similar to what is seen in "edit").

You guessed it. Now, I just hope iLife '08 is worth it. I ordered that when I thought the perceived iPhoto glitch was a sign it was time to upgrade from iPhoto 4. We'll see.

  • Video chat connects, but I can't see my buddy.

Every time I video chat with a friend, it connects and I can hear them and they can see me, but I am unable to see them.
    Any suggestions?

Make sure that you enabled the appropriate iChat ports on your router, that SPI firewall is disabled on your router, and make sure that NAT & UPNP are also enabled on your router. Also, make sure that your Apple firewall is either off or set to allow iChat communication. Then, if the problem still persists, reboot your computer.

  • IPhoto'11 - can't see camera pics but can see iPhone pics

When I opened my iPhoto couple of days ago I could see all my pictures (iPhone pictures and my (normal Nikon) camera pictures). When I opened iPhoto last night the only pictures I could see where my iPhone pictures but I couldn't see my camera pictures! I didn't update my computer or iPhoto in between so I am not sure what happened here?
Is there anybody that could advise me what happened and what should I do, please?
    Many thanks in advance!
    I have iPhoto 2011 9.4.2 version and OS X 10.8.2

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I just converted my videos to (MPEG 4)format and then put them in my itunes, but when i play the videos the sound work, but the picture cuts in and out with a green screan so you can't even see the video. And I looked at the video info and the Bit Rate is :80 kbps but the Total Bit Rate is: 0 kbps Does this have any thing to do with the problem?

I'm giving myself a bump - in the hopes someone can help me.

  • IPhoto browser can't see all photos in iPhoto

When i use the iPhoto Browser only about half of the photos in iPhoto show up. I've seen some posts of similar issues but no clear resolution. Any ideas?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto '08- can't see photo files for back up

I had upgraded to iLife '08. I usually back up current photo files to an external drive by going in iPhoto folder in users, select the new photos by folder and drag into my back up drive. Now I click on the iPhoto '08 icon and it acts like an application and opens iPhoto. Are the files now invisible? I don't think I like that! Am I to forced to export for back up?

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
Perhaps your best bet, though, is to use a Back Up utility such as DejaVu or Chronosync which can do incremental back ups and can parse the iPhoto Package File.

  • I see photos in iPhoto, but can't see them in my iPhoto listings when I try to upload to Blogger.

I click the Photo icon in Blogger, click Choose Photos, select the Photos in my left navigation, then scroll through iPhoto in the right side of the pane. None of my recently uploaded photos are available to select and add. My settings in iPhoto for sharing indicate that the whole iPhoto library is shared and not password protected.
I don't know how to check where my files are being saved, so I can't answer that outright.

That's my problem, on every other computer I upload to, this option works. I use the same procedure on this laptop and none of my new uploads appear when I select Media, photos, iPhoto. The new content is unavailable for selection to upload.
