As the person before me said, you will need a third party converter for your video. I had the same problem when I got my ipod with the audio not playing or only audio etc.
I would recommend the Super converter from www.erightsoft.com
when converting to ipod format remember to have it set to video coded as mpeg4, otherwise it dosen't work.
Hope this helps

    Hey Darkenedhaze24,
This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588 should give you more information about whats going on.
These links will show you howto convert files to be played on the iPod using itunes and Quicktime:

This is an iPad as opposed to iPod forum, and you would probably get more immediate help there.....though having said that, I would begin with this kb

  • Ipod nano 3rd gen. doesnt have sound during videos

i upload videos into itunes and they play fine, with sound. after converting to ipod format the sound is lost. the video is fine, but the sound is either absent or loud crackling. help please!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the sound is absent, it is probably because it is muxed, or the video and audio are all on one track. If you open the video in QuickTime Player, and go under the Window menu to Show Movie Inspector. In the Format line, if you see anything like, "MPEG1 Muxed", or the word 'Muxed' at all, you will need to use a program to 'demux' it.
There are programs such as MPEG Streamclip, available for download at [http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html] that can demux audio. Under the File Menu, there are options to demux it, or save as MPEG-4.
If you don't like that, you can use VLC Media Player [www.videolan.org/vlc] to convert. When you open a file, click Streaming/Saving Options, and save as an MP4.
Sorry, but I don't know how to help you with crackling, but following the same directions as above may help. Please let me know. I'll search around to see if I can find anything about that.

  • Why my facebook notification doesnt have sound

Why my facebook notification doesnt have a sound?
I've tried to restart, reinstall my facebook, update new version, set the sound on notification
    But it wont work

If the videos are multiplexed MPEG files then the audio and the video are muxed onto the same track. QuickTime, and therefore any application that uses QT like iTunes, the iPod, iMovie (Mac app), etc. expect two separate tracks, one video and one audio. So when you play these muxed files, the video is played and the audio is not heard.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
So you need to do a conversion on the file first. MPEG Streamclip is a popular one that comes in both Mac and Windows versions and is known to "repair" this problem.
See this other link for other applications that might be able to do the same thing. But your root cause is the muxed MPEG files.

  • Video player in iPod 60Gig. Sound stops after a while playing large clips

I have been converting DVDs and large video clips into iPod MPEG 4 format for the iPod with the Xilisoft DVD to iPod Converter 4. This softwrae works just great and the files plays well on my PC with Quick Time player as well as others. When loaded to the iPod they all start OK but the sound disapears after a while. If I fast-forward or backward then it works for a while again.
I do not see this behaviour with short clips (3-5 minutes)
As far as I can see this is related to the MPEG4 player in the iPod. Anyone have a similar problem or some resolution to it.

    Nope,
But I just discovered that that it is actually not only the sound that stops working but rather the whole video that has a "hick-up" and then when it continues the sound is gone. If I fastforward/rewind then it seem like the player rocovers and play the stream correctly again.
What are the Mp4 clip prefs you have used when converting?
I am planning to try some other settings when converting to see if that makes any difference but I doubt it will help. I think we will have to wait for a "better" i.e. working Video Player for the iPod ...

  • Videos on my iPod are without sound...

Please help me...i downoad videos to my iPod video,
but there's no sound...clip is playing but no sound...

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

I have recently purchased the 80GB Ipod video, and I uploaded many videos but it doesnt play the sound.Could any one help me on this?

  • Videos converted to ipod format have no sound

I just got a new nano and I have some videos I'd like to synch to it. But when I have iTunes convert them to ipod format I lose the sound. How do I fix this??

I can't make a good recommendation since I avoid Windows like the plague.
As a Mac user, I can only relay info that I have read on these forums.
I believe users have had mixed results with Videora iPod Converter. Some people rave about it, some people hate it.
I'm not too sure what else is out there.
I'm sure a Windows user will post here soon with some other recommendations.
EDIT: Just noticed that MPEG Streamclip has a Windows version now. You might want to check that out.

  • Why do the YouTube videos on my site not have sound?

I guess Youtube changed their embed code or something? But the videos I embedded on my site have no sound at all. Am I missing something here?
    here's an example:
    http://baby-recipes.com/butternut-squash-baby-food-recipe/

I have exactly the same problem, I only bought my ipod when 1.0.2 was the current version, my guess is that somehow the software that the ipod uses to play sound files is only suitable for those listening to Celine Dion. By that I mean, even with the EQ off the bass sometimes peaks, and guitar riffs cause a sort of crackling noise, and if you're listening to something where the bass guitar plays a heavy role in the song, Korn for example, you get the occasional speaker pop while it's playing. I've also found the same crackling happens during powerful vocal lines too. On Wikipedia it says to reduce the volume of the mp3 in itunes before synching it to your ipod, I haven't yet tried it myself though.

  • Home videos transfer to ipod with no sound

so i have a video camcorder and i made some home videos and they wouldn't copy to my ipod. so i went to my toolbar and it said convert selection for ipod or something along the lines of that and so i clicked that and a new window popped up under my devices section of my itunes tabs where the cds show up when i'm importing and it took about 2 minutes to convert. so i resynced my ipod and the video went on and so i went to watch it because i always double check these things to be sure and there's no sound to accompany the video. i guess it's not that big of a deal but it would be nice if i could find out what the problem is

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.

  • Published Videos from IPhoto to Gallery have sound but no video in browser

I've published some iphoto pictures and videos to a gallery on MobileMe. The videos in the gallery will play in the browser but there is no video, just sound.
The videos in IPhoto work fine, but through the browser they have no image. Do I need a special plugin to play these videos off the site? I simply let IPhoto upload them to the gallery, so I assumed it would do whatever it needed to ensure they will play...
Any help would be appreciated...I've tried viewing the videos with Firefox and Safari, but I get the same behavior. I tried downloading the file and it is the same bahavior, however the originals in the IPhoto albums work just fine...I assume this means a conversion is happening, but to what format?? They have an AVI extension, were originally downloaded from a Canon 770is camera.
I confirmed I can play the video on a Windows computer. I also downloaded the file from the gallery and opened in Quicktime and used the inspector to see:
Format is 'MJPG' 640x480..it also downloaded with a .MOV extension rather than the AVI listed in gallery....

    Heya Brendt,
Is the video within iTunes or just in your movies folder?
If it is not iTunes then ignore the "itunes" portion below.
Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
    ~/library/caches
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
    - Repair your permissions - > http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
    - Restart your computer again
    - Test and see how its working
    Hope that helps!

  • My ipod doesnt have headphones in but it says it is and i cant hear anything ive tried everything but nothing works help!!

My ipod says theres headphones in but there isnt ive tried everything but nothing works help!!!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

  • Importing vob file doesnt have sound

i have the mpeg 2 converter and imported one vob file without a problem but imported a second and it went into quicktime fine but had no sound. why is that

I've the same problem with my Sony N1-digital camera, quicktime can't convert it for iMovie (no sound). As QT Kirk indicated above, QT and associated QT-based applications (like iMovie) do not preserve audio during conversion. Basically, QT is based on frame-to-frame temporally synchronized technology while your MPEG-2 VX files are based on spatial sychronization by interspersing blocks of audio data with blocks video data in a single date stream. If you have the QT MPEG-2 component installed ($19.99 component required to view MPEG-2 video data), then use MPEG Streamclip (free) as recommended by Kirk. This file can convert your file to either an MPEG-2/MP2 file which is compatible with QT (with MPEG-2 component installed) or convert it to DV a video/audio file which is compatible with iMovie for editing. If no editing is required other utilities like iSquint or FFmpegX (both free) can also convert your files to QT compatible formats.
I made a mistake to buy quicktime professional. You should actually read the ads and specifications of a product before purchase. QT Pro merely unlocks editing, conversion, and savings options not available to the basic QT Player. It does not add additional codecs like WMV, DivX, MPEG-2, etc. which are available as add-on components from various vendors.
