Videos missing from iMovie workspace

I took a video on iMovie but did not click "use" afterwards.  Does the program automatically save videos? If so, how can I access the video? I cant see anywhere on my iphone.

Were you able to find n answer? I'm having the same problem

How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?  (The clips are in a .mov format, they have been imported / converted into this format in iMovie, original files were from a JVC camcorder in some other strange format.)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • Procedure and Format for emailing a short video clip from iMovie 08

I use one of the new Panasonic HiDef AVCHD digital video cameras. iMovie 08 works great, no complaints there. From time to time I would like to email very short (5-20 second) video clips, rather than putting them up on iWeb, YouTube, etc.
There are so many "sharing" options, and I haven't had much luck with emailing these short clips. Many of the recipients are Windows users, so I'm not sure QuickTime is the answer. What is the best way to email short video clips from iMovie 08?

What is the best way to email short video clips from iMovie 08?
Assuming you and your recipients' mail clients all allow attachments up to 10 MBs, then a 20-second clip can have a combined data rate of up to 500 KB/s (4.0Mbit/s). This means you can use any share/export compressions format option available to you from within iMovie '08. Therefore, the real question becomes, what compression formats can your recipients play. Have you tried asking them to see if there is a single compression format that everyone can play? If no QT compression format is compatible everyone, then you will likely have to perform a secondary conversion to one that will be compatible. H.264/AAC would provide the smallest files for a given level of quality but require QT 7 (or similar multi-media player). MPEG4/AAC would probably be the most compatible format you can export directly from within iMovie '08. (Would have recommended Sorenson 3/IMA but data rate limitation appears to be ignored.) MPEG-1 files can probably be played by everyone but have higher data rate requirements which may restrict files to SD dimensions and require additional software to create external to iMovie '08. DivX or WMV would probably make your Windows users happy but requires Mac users to have a compatible component for viewing in the QT Player.
Try the "Export using QuickTime" Share menu option ("Movie to MPEG-4") settings:
    Video
    MP4 File Type
    MPEG-4 Improved Compressor
Data rate in the range from 1,000 (640x480) to 3800 (near HD dimensions)
    Current (or user specified) dimensions
    Current Frame Rate
    Key Frame every 24 frames
    Audio:
    AAC-LC Music
    Mono
    64 Kbps Data Rate
    44.1 KHz Sampling Rate
    Better Quality

  • Is it permissible to upload a video on youtube with music, sounds effects, and video effects from imovie?

Lately, I've been editing and making videos for a local church in Mexico. I am not selling any of the videos. The are free to watch. However, is it permissible to upload a video with music, sound effects, and video effects from imovie? I using imovie version 10.0.2

This question comes up from time to time.
There are a number of con-men who think that they can earn a quick buck from claiming that they own the copyright to Apple’s royalty-free jingles and sound effects included with the iLife applications. These are all free to use, as clearly stated in section 2.C of the iLife Software License Agreement:
“You may use the Apple and third party audio content (“Audio Content”) contained in or otherwise included with the Apple software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original soundtracks for your video and audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual samples, sound sets, or audio content may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound files, sound effects or music beds.”

  • Video clips are missing from iMovie...Yosemite?

I recently downloaded Yosemite. I had a number of video clips (from Cannon Camera) in iMovie; they are no longer showing up. These clips were of my deceased mom. I've tried finding them in Time Capsule - NOT there. Can someone PLEASE HELP ME.
    Thank you
    Mike

I actually found a number of my videos in iPhoto and have created a new folder on desktop. I have moved the clips there and backup things up using Time Capsule. I know that many people may think that Time Capsule is antiquated and they're using iCloud. For those of us that don't use iCloud for photos, etc. I think you need to have a folder of items on your desktop in order to be saved in Time Capsule. Just thought I's share my experience and prevent others from troubles.
I just don't understand why items (that previously existed in iMovie) are no longer appearing due to Yosemite upgrade.

  • Best settings for exporting crisp video/graphic from iMovie to YouTube?

Hi, I am working on a video for a client and after viewing on YouTube they had some issues with the type not looking "crisp," and I'm not sure how to fix it, not sure if it's a YouTube thing or something I am doing wrong.
I am working in iMovie 6/HD on OS 10.4.11. I do my "type slides" in Photoshop and import them into the iMovie as photos (JPGs). I know some text/titles can be done in iMovie but there is very little control I have over what goes where, so by making my type slides in Photoshop I have more creative control to do what I want. I have done tests and it doesn't seem to matter what resolution the Photoshop files are when they're imported, the results are always the same.
If anyone has a better suggestion for doing the type slides I'd gladly welcome them, but I think what I really need to know is the following:
What are the best expert settings to export my iMovie file as, so that when I upload to YouTube, the quality stays fairly crisp? Or does YouTube's compression just negate anything I can do on my end?
I have googled and found settings recs on other sites and other boards and tried a bunch of them and my results aren't any better than my original effort.
From another post on this board I discovered I could play with the Filters setting when exporting, and I have set that to Sharpen and also used the Brightness filter to lighten the video (it was a little dark). I uploaded to YouTube and I think it is a little better, but would still love the info if anyone has a guaranteed rec for correct settings for YouTube video from iMovie HD/6.

    Hello Brian,
Have you tried de-interlacing before exporting?
Sometimes, when I'm in a rush, I would expand the Canvas/Viewer (viewed at 100%), pick the clearest frame, and do a screen capture.
For example, with the captured image (in Photoshop), I have a marquee preset at 640x480 (NTSC). I created an action to crop, resize to 720x480, then set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC.

  • Videos missing from iPhoto after prompted to clear from memory card

I just imported a couple of videos from my GoPro camera into iPhoto. After the videos were imported, I created an album. Once the videos finished importing I was prompted on screen to erase the video's from the memory card and that the import was complete. I did erase them. I then imported more pictures and videos from my regular camera into iPhoto and also following the prompt to erase the memory card post import. The pics/video from the regular camera are there, but my GoPro videos are not. I cleared the memory card so I can't re-import them. It seems they have to be on the computer somewhere since it said "Import complete, Erase Memory Card". Are they still on here somewhere or gone forever?

Create a smart album with the criteria
and check there to see if you can find the missing videos.  If not then you'll need a file recovery app like  PhotoRescue to try too recover the files from the memory card.  There are other similar apps that can do the job.  Go to MacUpdate.com and search for photo recovery.  Most have a demo mode to show you if you can recover the file before you have to purchase it.
Never let iPhoto or other import app delete the files form the memory card.  It's best to make sure the download was successful and that all files are viewable/playable before deleting from the menory card.d  When memory cards are involved it's best to let the camera reformat the card than let the app or the Mac do the deleting/reformatting.

  • Poor quality video output from iMovie 08

I have tried to save or export videos on several occasions, their output quality is always very poor.
Recently, I needed to translate videos from MPG, MOV, AVI etc.. using various translation tools. I am not sure how much quality I lost during those translations (I wish iMovie would import something, anything!).
I have saved my projects and also tried exporting to the highest resolution in both cases. When playing back within PowerPoint or QuickTime (7pro or 10) the quality is so bad I almost can't recognize the people in the video.
Does iMovie 09 do a better job with output or am I just using the wrong tool?
    Thanks in advance.

not sure if i'm having the same issue or not, but i'm having problems with iMovie 08, and exporting my finished project, and having the frame rate be goood, or the resolution stay good, or both. I've tried m4v, avi, mpeg4 and they worked in quality in that order, but m4v still didn't have as good as resolution as the original file. Is there an option that automatically goes with original framerate, and resolution? What should I be doing for best visual quality in general?

  • Keynote4.0.1  does not play videos imported from Imovie

I have exported a film from Imovie (web-quality) to play in a keynote-presentation.
With Tiger all things went well, but with leopard, the slide with the movie is not shown anymore... nothing to see, the screen stays black...
    any idea?
the same problem on a Powerbook and my new MacBook Pro...

I'm having the same problem with quicktimes that come from another source (in photojpeg codec). I noticed that some movies worked, and others did not. The ones that worked were in the H.264 codec, so I used Quicktime Pro to Export my PhotoJPEG compressed quicktime movies into H.264 compressed movies, and those playback correctly in Keynote 08 under Leopard.
    Hope this helps!
If anyone knows a solution to get other codec quicktimes to play in keynote, please post - this is a pain.

How do I recover those music audio tracks lost in the transfer from  imovie 9 projects  into imovie 11? How do I add music from my itunes library into imovie 11 projects. Some do and others cannot.

for purchases from the iTunes store do this:

  • Videos missing from Home Sharing (on Apple TV 2)

We have home sharing turned on successfully through iTunes, including for iPhoto pictures (through iTunes) and have turned on sharing videos.  We can view pictures (going back to the beginning of our library nearly 10 years ago), and I can see nearly 300 videos.  However, many (most) of our videos don't appear downstairs (even though they show up in a smart "All Videos" album on iPhoto).  Formats that are appearing downstairs include QT and 3GPP (and go back well over a year) - many of the videos missing appear to be AVI (though at least one AVI format video appears).  That's 700+ missing videos.
Can you advise what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Going to try a signal booster this all started with the TV upgrade. The only reason for the network booster is because iPhone 4 freezes in facebook once and a while. I am trying to solve this problem for my brother my system works with my airport and imac with no issues yet. All brand new.

  • Some videos missing from iPhoto event in iMovie'08

I recently took some pictures and 7 videos and imported them into iPhoto. I intended to edit them in iMovie'08. I find that 3 of the videos are missing in the Event Library/iPhoto Library pane. I tried deleting them from iPhoto and importing again to no avail. Strangely, thumbnail videos were added to the iPhoto LIbrary/Data/2008/{event_name} folder inside the library data package.
*Yes, that's right, the iMovie thumbnail videos are stored in the iPhoto data file!!!!! Go figure!*
    How do I fix this?

    Update:
The problem lies in iPhoto: iPhoto has a problem with very large movie files and regularly fails to import them. When that happens I have to use the finder to drag he movie into iPhoto. For some reason, unknown to me, imported movies do not always get a file creation date. When that happens, iMovie'08 assigns a default: Dec 31, 1903 I think. To fix this I had to find each movie inside the iPhoto Library package and set the creation date to the modification date using Super Get Info [http://www.barebones.com/products/super> manually.
    BUG! BUG! please fix.

  • IPhoto videos missing in iMovie 09's thumbnail view

Recently I imported a bunch of videos into iPhoto 09 from my camera, and when I next opened iMovie 09 it generated thumbnails for them as expected. But when it finished, only about a quarter of the videos were actually there in iMovie. They are all of the same format and everything and it is a random selection of them that for some reason didn't show up in iMovie. Since then I have added more videos to iPhoto in the hopes that when iMovie generated their thumbnails it would find the ones it missed but this didn't happen. All the new ones came through fine though. I've tried restarting iPhoto, iMovie and my computer but nothing worked. Does anyone know of a way to get iMovie to notice these files without having to make copies of them? (I tried the Import button which lets me find them through "Media" but I have to find each one individually and either copy it - which I would rather not do since the files are quite large - or move it, which means I could no longer open them through iPhoto). I also noticed that if I drag the video onto my desktop and re-add it to iPhoto then iMovie does notice it. The only problem with this is I have quite a large number of videos and to make copies of them all then delete them again, and have to find all the ones that are missing would be very tedious, but if nothing else works I will have to resort to this. Does anyone have any ideas or has experienced this before?
Thanks very much for your help

Unfortunately I think you have found all the possible fixes and they are all time consuming. It does sound like iPhoto isn't recognizing and allowing iMovie to then see the iPhoto Videos Library. A typical thing I suggest for folks with BIG iPhoto libraries is to do a iPhoto Library repair.
Hold down the ⌘ Command key + Option, then launch iPhoto. You'll get a dialog box with a number of check boxes. Not knowing exactly which of these is the one that will fix your problem, I say check them all and click OK and let 'er rip. This too will be time consuming as iPhoto reconstructs your whole catalog of photos and videos. If there's any damage it will correct that as well. Will it fix this problem of iMovie not seeing the iPhoto Videos, I don't know. You may also have to try deleting the iPhoto preferences .plist, but try the iPhoto Library rebuild first.
