Videos no longer recognised as videos in my ipod

Hello, I've downloaded various videos and vodcasts from the itunes store. Never had any problem viewing them before.
About a week ago, I plugged my ipod into a different laptop for charging and now the ipod no longer brings up lists of movies etc under that menu. (I've charged the ipod on several different pcs before without any trouble)
The ones I've downloaded are still there on my ipod, but now it thinks they are music, not videos. I've tried dragging and dropping the files back into movies, but it hasn't helped.
If I can't access them through the movie menu, I can only play the sound as a music file.
Any idea how I can see them as videos again?
I've got the 30gb ipod which was out last xmas and am using windows.
Thanks, Rach

"It resolved the problem of those songs playing my ipod, but now anytime I connect it to a pc it wont open it up, just asks to format it."
That's because Windows cannot read Mac formatted iPods.
Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

Ipod touch 4 i can no longer watch movies, transferred to the ipod, on videos app it simply says loading and then stops. On my ipad mini with older ios it still works. So how can I fix this I have tried converting videos into different formats but it will not work.
Is IOS 8 really appropriate with Ipod Touch 4, if the older Ipods do not have the capability then why are we prompted to install new operating systems.
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all videos and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • USB device no longer recognised

I have a GoPro which was working fine on the Apple, I connected it to my sons Windows computer to edit some video, now when I plug it in to the apple it is not showing anywhere! Likewise the external hard drive I used on his computer to transfer the files is no longer recognised on the Apple.
I must be missing something? They are still there showing on the Windows computer.

  • How do I copy music and video from my iPod to a new PC?

My itunes PC no longer works.  How can I copy music and video from my iPod to a new PC?

You can't transfer music from an iPod to a PC.  Apple do not provide that facility.  It can be done with third party software though.  There are a variety of these available though so search google for 'ipod to itunes'.

  • [Windows] Video conversion for iPod Touch on 2.0

I have recently purchased an iPod Touch 16Gb - cost £242 -, on software version 1.1.4. Immediately installing the latest iTunes (7.7.1.11) with Quicktime (7.5 Build 861), I upgraded the Software version to 2.0. Cost £6.99
Then I went to transfer videos I had on my Nano to my new Touch, and gave me the error:
"Some of the songs or videos in your iTunes library, including "xxxxxxx", were not copied to the iPod "xxxxxxxx iPod" because they cannot be played on this iPod."
So I did some googling and saw that Quicktime could be upgraded to Pro to transcode videos for the iPod. So £24.99 later, tried to save the videos and got the same error. I'm a bit miffed now.
More googling and got the Jodix Ipod converter download - free. Converted into a format Quicktime recognises, added into iTunes and still gives the same error.
So I have paid nearly £280 (est. $500) for hardware / software which wont do the job its built for... Any Questions?

Strangely enough, I have managed to get my videos working. The solution to the problem at the mo is to use low-quality videos. I encoded my videos at 1500kbps, after transcoding them down to 700kbps they seem to run fine and no further converting in iTunes needed. Interesting, seems Apple don't want us putting our own videos on at a HD watchable bit rate - nice.

  • Need to get all the files, well music and video, from my ipod touch 5th gen to my itunes libary.

Need to get all the files, (well music and video), from my ipod touch 5th gen to my itunes libary. (So basically sync the other way to normal)
Laptop hard drive broke so had to buy a new one and obviously now need to sort out my itunes.
Did try downloading all my purchased stuff onto itunes but it has missed some things off, and there are some files I did not purchase from itunes so need a way of getting them back on there.
Sure this question has been asked a million times but can't find anything to help me on here so thought I'd ask.
-Did have a look at going onto the start menu and opening the hidden items thing but couldn't see any reference to ipod or device on it so wasn't sure how to do it that way.
-On itunes under my device when its connected, the section about manually restoring and backing up, would that help me? Because that says it will manually back up my ipod to my computer then could restore that back up, obviously I don't want to accidnetally get rid of everything on my ipod so didn't want to try that just in case without checking.
(And yes I have disabled auto sync to device when conncected!)
Can anyone help me please? Sorry if i've overcomplicated this!
    Thanks:)
    Chris

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media.  You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else.  As long as you do not sync the iPod with your new library, the media that's on it will remain ... for as long as it keeps functioning, is not lost, stolen, eaten by the dog, ...
You may also have an option to recover your previous library from your old laptop; as long as its hard drive isn't fried, a computer repair store or technician may be able to extract the drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and copy your data to another PC.  Whatever you choose, there is no real alternative to having all your media on your computer, managed by iTunes, and regularly backed up to another device/location.

  • Trouble with Videos on my iPod. Please Help?

    Hello,
I am hoping someone out there can help me. I have what I thought was simply called an iPod Video, but I guess it now refereed to as a fifth generation iPod. When I first got it, I was excited to be able to watch videos on my iPod. When I tried to put videos on it, it told me my OS X was out of date. I had to buy OS X Tiger in order to put videos on it. That worked and I was happy. Now to advance my story to the present. I can no longer watch my videos on my iPod or even on my iTunes. When I try to sync the videos to the iPod, I get this message:
“Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video (Video Title) were not copied to the iPod (iPod Name) because they cannot be played on this iPod.”
That message makes no sense because it is an iPod video and I have watched those videos on it before. I only have five videos and all but one was downloaded from the iTunes Store. And like I said earlier, they will not even play in my iTunes window either anymore.
    Can someone Please Help Me?
    My Mac: PowerMac G4
    OS X: 10.4.10
    iTunes: 7.4.2 (4)
    iPod: 60gb 1.2.1

    Hello,
Thank you for the reply. I had QuickTime 7.0.4 on my Mac and I just upgraded it to 7.2.0. That did the trick for allowing me to watch my videos on my computer through iTunes, but I still get the same annoying error message that will not allow me to put them on my iPod. What is really annoying is all these movies were on my iPod and then one day when I put in my iPod to sync my music, it took off the videos and gave me the above message.

  • Can i upload a 12 min. video to my ipod video ?

can i upload a 12 min. video to my ipod video ?

As a matter of interest you can load videos of any length up to your iPods hard drive capacity.
I have several 1.5 - 2 hour films which play perfectly.
How long your battery will last if you play them is, of course, a different matter.

  • Video management on iPod

ok, I'm at my wit's end. I've got some videos I want to put on my iPod, but I DON'T want to keep them on my computer. I have all the proper back-ups of my videos so don't waste my time lecturing me about that. I've tried manually adding the videos, but the only way I can do that is to manually manage my music as well. What I would like to do is to be able to +manually add videos+ while at the same time +auto sync music+. Is there any way to do this at all?

Hi, I don't think there's a way to manage just the video section manually while retaining auto-sync for music. What you can do, however, is auto-sync the videos to get them onto the iPod, then remove the physical files from your computer while retaining the entries for them in the iTunes library. When you try to sync again iTunes will report that it cannot sync certain files as they cannot be found, but it should leave the previously synced files on your iPod. You can disable the warning if you choose. You will still be able to add new videos onto the iPod by adding them into iTunes, then syncing. You can also remove items you no longer want on the iPod by deleting their library entries.
You seem to have the issue of backups in hand but for benefit of others I would stress that this method should be avoided if it results in the iPod containing the only copy of a particular file because the iPod could easily be lost, stolen or need restoring at some point.

  • How to pull videos recorded on iPod off device; transfer to computer (if files are too large to email)?

I've recorded 2 short videos on my iPod with the camcorder function, but they are too long/large to email to myself (I am not interested in cutting them any shorter). What are my options for transferring these files from my iPod to my Macbook Pro?

iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

  • What's wrong with videos in the iPod touch?

Videos added to my iPod touch won't show up in iTunes. Thus, not only can I not know what videos I have from iTunes but, because of this, the only way to delete videos is from the iPod touch.
I have a word around where I can create a playlist and put all my videos there. Unfortunately, I still can't delete them from iTunes because that will only remove them from the playlist.
Finally, I'm afraid to modify any tag information for my videos. It takes an unacceptably long time for the information to update and you can corrupt your video if you cancel it with the stop button on the progress dialog. Seriously, it takes about as long as the video to update the tag of a video. So, an hour long video can take an hour to update the tag information.
I've done a search and, so far, no one has described this strange behaviour. Do I just have a defective iPod touch?
    Thank you...

No, I haven't. If simply adding videos to my iPod is so buggy, I'm afraid at what a complicated procedure like synching might do. I feel like the iPod is so delicate that any unexpected input will corrupt it irrevocably. I've already had to reset it due to data corruption (which wasn't fun)...
If the device can't deal with manually added videos, why do they let us? Why not force us to synch like with photos? It's tempting to try to return it except that this can't be anything other than a software problem and no one else seems to have this issue. Am I the only person on Earth who doesn't sync? It's interesting that you automatically assumed that I was doing so. So much so that you interpreted my post as describing some form of synching, as if there was no other way to use one's iPod.
I'm fairly disappointed in this infernal device...

  • Can't play video on my ipod 5gen?

Ok so yesterday I finally bought an apple ipod 5 gen 30G and was expecting to come home and simply upload videos and downloaded movies to it the same way as with songs. only problem is, It took me a while to figuire out how exactly to import My Fan made Movies into itunes, I used Videora iPod Converter. I converted my Fan made movies. It showed up and played fine in itunes but when I updated my ipod and tried to play the video (on my ipod) It simply shows a thumbnail and plays the audio!!
Now I got this ipod to play both audio & video but it's really starting to **** me off, thats where GT comes in.
Is there anyway to play fan made movies (created in windows movie maker) and downloaded full lengh movies (not from the itunes store but from torrents) on my ipod 5 gen????
And is it supossed to take a really long time to convert say a 50MB file? Im really confused.
    Thanks-
    MRBee
Edit: I just tried to sync the video to my ipod again and it said; ipod cannot play this file........WHAT?
      Windows XP

"when I updated my ipod and tried to play the video (on my ipod) It simply shows a thumbnail and plays the audio"
On your iPod go to "Videos / Video Settings".
Then select "TV Out" and either set it to "off" or "ask".
Also, make sure you are accessing the video through the videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist and you access it through that, you also won't be able to see the video.
Btw, I would recommend something other than Videora. Try Streamclip.

  • Frustration i spell you i-P-O-D, problems with setting up video on my ipod.

hey everyone, i just upgraded from my ipod mini to these new ipod videos. i came home hooked it up, installed the newer itunes and registered the ipod but my videos were unable to be put on the ipod. i realized i had to download quicktime pro 7, which i did. i picked a few music videos to test it out which each took an eternity to convert, following the apple website instructions to a T. after waiting for what seemed like hours the videos were converted and able to be played on the ipod.. but there was no audio. how can i put my videos on my ipod with the original audio? this is incredibly frustrating!

I have also had problems getting video to copy onto my new iPod video. The only video I had any success with was, of course, those videos purchased from the iTMS (iTunes Music Store).
I have had success using a shareware program called: iSquint (http://www.isquint.org/). But this program will only convert existing QuickTime movies to an iPod compatible format - H.264 (.mp4).
Some of the videos I converted using iSquint were first ripped from DVD movies using a program called: DVDxDV (http://www.dvdxdv.com/DVDxDV.overview.htm). The problem is that with movies longer than 10 min. - the audio and video get out of sync with each other. Movies shorter than 10 min. seem to transfer just fine.
I found a shareware program called: Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) that will rip movies directly from DVD to an iPod compatible format. But none of the movies I ripped from DVD would transfer to the iPod.
I studied the [extensive] tutorials found at the iPod Lounge (http://www.iLounge.com/) on ripping DVD movies to iPod compatible formats and I thought I did everything to the letter. But I haven’t been able to transfer any DVD movie ripped using the Handbrake method to the iPod.
Everything I'm doing seems to match up with Apple's requirements and the tutorial on: "Creating video for iPod" at:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html
One last note: Strangely, I can't get any video converted using QuickTime Pro 7.0.3 "export to iPod (320 x 240)" codec to transfer to iPod either. When I spoke to Apple Tech Support on this, I was told Apple doesn't support transferring video to the iPod using any method other than the iTMS. That doesn't make any sense. Why would they post a tutorial on creating video for iPod if they don't support it?
Has anyone had any success at getting movies ripped directly from DVD to an iPod compatible format that will actually play on their iPod? If so, please help...

  • Help? Video folders on iPod Touch

I have a slight problem that I cant seem to work out and was wondering if anyone on here knew the solution.
I have some videos on my iPod from iTunes, two of them are South Park, one is Season 10 and another is Season 11, I was wondering if there was anyway to have all my South Park episodes in one single folder in videos instead of having a long list of episodes clashing with other videos in the video main page? Just to make it easier to find my episodes.
I know it can be done because i've seen an image of someone's touch with folders in the videos page, like: South Park (2 episodes), Ugly Betty (22 episodes) etc...then you can click on them and all the episodes for that show come up.
I don't think i can be clearer than that lol, anybody know how to do this?
    Thanks!

This works on my 5G (touch is comming next week) but in iTunes:
Choose the videos you want grouped, highlight them
    Get info
then go to video tab, and select video type (IIRC)
    choose TV show.
fill in the the season, show and episode #.
Then it will move it to tv shows on itunes and on your ipod, go to TV, choose the show, the season, and the episode.
