Videos on iWeb

Please excuse my basic question:
1. Can you put videos on the websites on iWeb and if so how large can they be?
2. I have a small business and think a iWeb may be low-maintanence enough
to set something up on. Do people use iWeb for this or is it genereally used for more personal websites.
I'm new to this program, don't want topay to have a website made and don't want to invest in a pricey program like Flash.
Thanks so much

Sure you can. You are limited by file size basically. Bigger dimension movies and higher quality movies lead to larger file sizes.

iWeb is generally meant for personal websites, but people have used it for lots of purposes. Check out http://www.iwebusersites.com to see the gamut.

  • Can't play video in iWeb

I've created my site and compressed my video for iWeb in iMovie HD6. But for some reason, the video won't play when I visit the site. Any ideas? FYI, you can see the page here:

    Aubrey,
I was thinking more about your question...perhaps you were asking about your movie playing automatically when visiting you page, no? If you would like to enable autostarting of QT movies, it's going to require some editing of some of the "autostart" values from "false" to "true". The method is detailed in this tutorial article by our very own mwong. I have provided a link here...scan down to the window entitled "iWeb 1.1(.1) Update" for the latest info on the .js files which you will need to update for autostart.

  • Squashed Flash Video in iWeb

This is a stumper and I could really use a freah perspective on it.
I have been trying to get a Flash movie on my iWeb site bu using the instructions on the iWebUnlimited site here...
    http://iwebunlimited.com/iweb-tips/iweb-tip-9-flash-video-in-iweb-jw-player/
The problem I have is that when I publish my changes in iWeb and point my browser to the page the movie is on, the movie plays as a litttle squashed box in the middle of the player.  Let me explain...
I followed the instructions on the iWebUnlimited site to the letter.  I have downloaded the .swf and .js files, placed them in a folder called "flash" on my iDisk as well as my .flv movie file and a screengrab of the same size.
I have changed all the parameters in the HTML code to point to my iDisk and the relavent files.
I have changed the video dimensions to that of my newly encoded .flv video  (640 x 352 - in ffmpegx)
When I go to my movie page in my browser, I see the still shot I took as a place marker in the right dimensions.  Yet when I play the movie, although the player is the size I requested - 640 x 352 - the actual movie plays inside it as a squashed box.  Take a look at the screenshot below to see what I mean.
The video should fill the black areas, but whatever I do this is the result...
Here is the info on the flash video I uploaded to my iDisk and how is should look...
And here is the HTML code with the same dimensions input in iWeb before I published.  I have changed my username back to "username" for this screenshot FYI...
The weird thing is - I uploaded a flash movie a couple of years ago to the same page and it plays ok - looks fine.  Shame I can't remember how the **** I did it!  I wondered if having 2 flash movies on the same page were causing the problem, so I deleted the old one.
    Same result.
I created a new fresh movie page and tried that - same result again.
I thought that maybe each movie needed it's own set of .swf and .js files as the 2 movies are of different dimensions, each player would need to be different dimensions also....?
So I even added another set of .swf and .js files.  I tried copying the 2 sets of movie files to individual folders, but iWeb didn't see them at all - it only seems to see them is they are in a folder called "flash" in my "Web >Sites" folders on my iDisk.
I was wondering even if it was down to the encoding of the video, which I did in ffmpegx.  I did have to do it in a roundabout way...
In Final Cut Pro I exported a full quality QT movie - ProRes422 1280 x 720 that turned out at 5.32 GB and 12 mins 5 secs in duration.
This is not recognised by ffmgegx, looks like the ProRes codec has it confused.
So I put it into Compressor and re-encoded it as a H.264 movie 1280 x 720 that turned out at 1.72 GB.
When I put this into ffmgegx it encoded just fine, but stopped after 7 mins and 7 secs.
I tried a hundred different ways but it always stopped at 7m7s...
So I eventually dropped it onto a droplet I downloaded somewhere to convert videos for Vimeo HD  - 1280 x 720.  I dropped this into ffmpegx and Hey Presto - it worked!
So I now have my full length .flv movie at my 640 x 352 on my iDisk with iWeb pointing at it and the correct dimensions input in the HTML code, and it STILL comes out squashed....
if anyone has a clus what is causing this or what I am doing wrong, I will be forever in your debt!
I know this is an epic mail, but I wanted to give all the info I can......

If you are using a SWF or FLV you don't need to use the JW player assets. Just reference the file in an iFrame code....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Flash-SWF-FLV.html
Adjust the dimensions of the frame to fit the movie and control bar if necessary.
This page shows the JW using the embed code and the javascript version...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/JW-Media-Player.html
If you want to us the JW player using the javascript shown on the iWeb unlimited site, you need to adjust the player frame dimensions to suit the control bar position that you specified. I notice that this website doesn't mention the fact that the control bar position can be changed - normally "bottom" or "over". If you set the control bar to "bottom", the frame height needs to be increased. Also the javascript shown is not the latest one where you can specify all the custom options.
If you use the javascript that I employed for the second example on the iWeb for Musicians site, you can do a lot of customizing and specify flash with fallback to HTML5 or vice versa.

When uploading videos to iWeb, the video screen gets cut off at the top. It only happens in Firefox, but not in Safari. Has anybody else had this problem?

I'm using pure HTML5 for mobile websites although you need to provide an OGG file for Firefox. See the movie page on this site...
    http://mobile.ezmacwebdesign.com/
If you don't have an iPhone, grab the browser handle and drag it to the left to reduce the width to see how it responds to mobile devices' fixed width browsers .
This will play in all modern browsers and on mobile devices. You can use QuickTime Pro for the OGG or OGV conversion or get the freeware Miro Video Converter...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Easy-Movie-Player.html
If you only want to upload an MP4, you can use a flash fallback player and this will cover Firefox and those geriatrics that still use older versions of Internet Explorer....

    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Fallback-To-Flash.html
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/JW-Media-Player.html
If you use any of the four fallback players above, take advantage of the fact that you can add a poster image and stop the video file from preloading. This makes for a faster page download time.
You can also achieve this using HTML5 by adding preload="none" and poster="URL to the poster image" into the code shown on this page...

  • Inserting MobileMe Videos into IWeb

I have three questions about inserting MobileMe Videos into iweb.
    1) I used the "insert from MobileMe" command in iWeb and it allows me to insert a video but I can't change the size of the video. Do you know how I can change the size.
    2) I have some movies I have uploaded to the gallery via iMovie and some I uploaded via the mobileme site. The ones via iMovie I can easily insert like I mentioned in Q1 but the others I uploaded are put into an album and iWeb doesn't allow me to select the video I want to insert. It only allows me to insert the whole album which is a small box with links to the album. I want to choose the video to insert into the page. Any ideas How?
    3) Is there a way to insert the video from mobileme using the Html Snippet? If so, how?
    Thanks

You can use the [OBJECT/EMBED|http://htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/special/object.html] code for inserting media in a page.
When you know the location of the movie you can create a path to it.
    Your webgallery is in iDisk>Web>Sites>_gallery>100999>Movie.

  • Flip video on iweb?

Can you put video blogs from a flip video on iWEB? much obliged.

iWeb writes page code that uses the QuickTime browser plug-in.
What is the information about your file? Open it using QuickTime and report the Movie Inspector data.

  • Optimize video for iWeb

Earlier tonight I created my first vlog in iMovie. Originally, I used the "Share > iWeb" menu item to export my video, and was pleased to see a page waiting for me in iWeb with my movie already placed in it.
However, when I published this 10 Mb beast, I was surprised to see the big blue Quicktime Q sitting where my (I thought) streaming video was supposed to be. So I waited, and waited, even on broadband. Eventually the movie appeared with controls to press play.
I like Q as much as the next letter of the alphabet, but I wanted streaming video. I'd like to see iLife/iWeb support this in future releases/updates. For now, however, you can create a good streaming presentation by using the "File > Export" menu item, then choosing "Expert" from the "Compress movie for:" drop down menu. Click Share, and in the next dialogue box, click the "options" button next to the "Export" field. Once you do this, you can set your movie's size, audio quality, and most importantly, you can check the "prepare for internet streaming" box and select "Fast Start" or "Fast Start - Compressed Header". Incidentally, this also reduced the file size of my movie from 10 megs to 3.4... and the quality appeared to be about the same on playback.
I say good instead of great streaming presentation because although I've used this method recently to create streaming video that auto-starts like Apple's movie trailers do (like it's supposed to do in Quicktime), video in iWeb does not auto-start as soon as enough of the video is downloaded to begin. The user still has to click play. But at least they get visual feedback... they see a play button and can track the download. Without a "please wait" disclaimer (and don't we all love those) that big blue Q, especially on a 10 Mb movie file, is just going to leave people thinking there's nothing to see and moving on. Even on broadband.

oh how smug i was when after uploading my 10mb monster and looking at a big blue Q, realised an export option was compression for streaming exactly like yourself.
was most disappionted when it made no difference, hope apple change that soon as the movie was the best bit of my site!

  • Best workflow for posting video to iweb

If I am posting video on iWeb (HDV) what would the corret way to to that?
export to QT or do a QT conversion and resize.
when I do the QT movie - and post in iweb I get a message that says how the file exceeds the 10 mb ??? something or other.
Do I need to set the file in QT conversion for strreaming media? or fast start?? I really don't have a clue if one is superior?
    THanks
    TIM

There is no absolute correct way. One way is shown in this demo page. It lets the page load without having the movie load thus speeding up the page load a fair amount. The movie only has to load when the Play button is clicked on and then it opens in a separate window sized just for the movie. The code used is also shown on the page. This way can allow you to use a larger QT file and not affect the loading of the original page it's linked to.

  • Is it possible to embedd other Non YouTube videos on iWeb sites?

You know how there's a YouTube Widget that lets you easily embed YouTube videos on iWeb sites? I imagine this Widget doesn't work for none YouTube videos (e.g. MetCafe), so how do we embed those on our web site pages?

Use an HTML Snippet and an iFrame code.....
    http://web.me.com/roddymckay/Web-Media-Test/Night-City.html
There are two versions of the same movie on this test page. One uses the Vimeo code and the other uses an iFrame code with the URL to the Video.

  • Autoplaying video on iWeb using Windows Media Player

I'm using iWeb to design a website that needs to play video and audio files. These files have been created on a PC and saved in the Windows Media Player (wmv) format. Will I be able to autoplay them in a website designed with iWeb? How do I accomplish this?

You can do it, but you will have to convert the WMV files into straight QT files. To do this, try a little program called "iSquint". http://www.isquint.org
Just drag your WMV file into the iSquint window, adjust the quality slider to your liking and hit go. You can even batch convert your WMV this way.
Then all you have to do is to drag them into iWeb. To make them autoplay, you will have to do some manual editing of the page.js files after publishing with iWeb.

  • Ease of embedding video in iWeb 09?

i have iWeb 06. i have never been successful at embedding video from youtube or vimeo. is there an easy way to do this in iWeb 09?

Yes. Go to YouTube and get the code for embedding and enter it into an HTML snippet on your page. This demo page has examples: Adding YouTube Videos. Remember it's the embed code and not the link code.

  • Placing graphics OVER a video in iWeb?

Hi, I have a video on my iWeb site and I want to place a graphic over it to act kind of like a picture frame. The graphic I want to use has transparent parts I created in photoshop so that, when I "send to front" on iWeb, it appears OVER my video and my video can then be seen behind it. However, when I publish my project and visit my site, the video always appears over the graphic frame I created. Is there a way to make the graphic act as an overlay through html or something?
    Thanks!

Thanks, everyone! I tried placing the video in a text box. Do I then also place the frame in that same text box? If so, should it then be able to fit over the video? I feel like I must be doing something wrong.
If I try the other technique of placing the image in the video, is there an easy way to do that in iMovie? I don't have Final Cut.

  • Delete and replace video in iweb

I have iWeb 3.0.4 (iWeb '11 I think). I want to delete a YouTube video on my video page and replace with another YouTube video, or simply call up the YT widget and change the URL address to the video I want. I can't seem to delete the old video and when I drag over the widget to the video and type in the new URL it simply overlays my new video on top of the old one so I have 2 videos in that spot. Is there a relatively simple solution to make this replacement of one video with another?

First click on the existing video and use the Delete key.  Then add the new HTML snippet with the YouTube embed code.

  • Question about posting video in iWeb

hi, I'm having problems with a video that's I've put on a page in iWeb. it's a quicktime mp4 of about 52 megs.
but godaddy.com does not see the video on some sites, and on others it boots very slowly
is that too big a video to post?
should I do a webstreaming export?
    any ideas?
    Michael

Dragging a video file onto an iWeb page is not the best way to go since the movie file has to download with the web page. If you want to depend on the QuickTime plugin, you are better using one of the methods shown on this page...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Poster-Movie.html
To make sure it plays in all browsers its better to use a fallback code...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Flow-Player.html
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Fallback-To-Flash.html
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/JW-Media-Player.html
Export your movie as H.264, fast start for internet streaming so that the movie can start to play before the whole file downloads in the browser.

  • Full Screen Video in iWeb

I created a video on iMovie an then put it on one of my sites on iWeb. I want viewers to be able to view it in fullscreen but that doesn't to be an option. Any suggestions on how to do this?

The simplest way would be to upload it to Vimeo, YouTube ...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Vimeo-YouTube.html
Go down the page to this...
"Click the button to see an example of Vimeo using autoplay in a popup window..."
... and click the button to get the video and then click for full screen.
    Or this...

    ... and this...

  • Is fullscreen video in iWeb Possible?

    Hi,
I am looking for a way to enable videos on my site, created in iWeb to be played fullscreen. Is this possible?
I have searched the relevant documentation and also online but can't find any information of use.
    Many Thanks

If you created the XML manually, perhaps there's a typo causing the problem. But since I've never worked with .qtl files, I can't help directly. You'll probably get a better response to your problem by also posting on the +"QuickTime for Mac OS"+ forum here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=932
...post as much info as you can on both that forum and in this thread, particularly the URL of your website. If you prefer not to post the actual video you're working with, then post a short dummy version. Indicate whether you created the XML manually or automatically via QT Pro.
Ideally, also post your XML code - but you may have to post it as a screenshot image, otherwise this forum system may try to interpret the XML! ...If you find posting the XML here is not possible, then to manually post an image of it here, place the screenshot image in your iDisk's Public folder, for example here:
    http://idisk.mac.com/myuserid-Public/Images/myXML.jpg
...and embed that URL in the necessary +"IMG SRC="+ HTML statement in your forum post.
Alternatively, you could automate the process of posting images to this forum via your iDisk and generating the HTML links to them by using the free ImageWell editor & uploader described here:
