Videos play sluggish using iPhoto 11 or quicktime

Hi Community
When playing imported iPhone 4S movies in iPhoto 11 or Quicktime, they play sluggish.
However, VLC plays them fine. Anybody out there have any thoughts on how I can diagnose this?

No, there is no issue having 11 and 09 on the same machine - just put one into a Folder within the Apps folder. Note that updaters won't find it there.
I have a point of feedback on keeping multiple versions of iPhoto around.
I began processing my multiple Libraries (all in iPhoto8 format) using iPLM. At one point, I used its option to create a new Library and then moved some iP8 photos into it. However, when I tried to open it using iP8 I noticed that it was actually an iP9 Library. I contacted the IPLM author and he gave me this very useful reply. I share it, as other may find this good to know. (I have now 'compressed' my currently-unused copy of iPhoto9 and have not had further difficulties/confusion.)
There isn't really a great way to keep two different versions of iPhoto installed simultaneously. iPLM gets the location of iPhoto itself by querying OS X, which will typically return the highest versioned copy of iPhoto that it finds. If you look in the lower right corner of the main iPLM window, that will show you what version of iPhoto iPLM is using, and clicking the version number will show you the full path to the iPhoto application itself. So when you create new libraries, open libraries, etc., that version is what iPLM will be using.
The technique I typically use to keep multiple versions of iPhoto around (I have every version back to iPhoto 2, since I have to test iPLM with them) is to use the "Compress" command in the Finder to make a .zip version of the iPhoto application, and then delete the application itself. The OS can't use the program while it's zipped up, but then if I want to switch, say, from iPhoto 9 back to iPhoto 8, I just trash iPhoto 9 and unzip a copy of iPhoto 8, so I only ever have one unzipped copy around at a time.

  • Video Play-Back in iPhoto '08 on external drive

I have my iPhoto library on an external drive to save space on my iMac hard-drive, but when I import video (directly from a card reader) into the iPhoto library, it will not play.  I used to be able to do this, but since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, it won't work.  What is happening?  Is this a known bug?  Is there a fix?

Do a custom install with the Snow Leopard disk and select just Quicktime Player 7 to install.

  • Can't play music in iPhoto slideshow in Quicktime

         Hi,
I created a slideshow in iPhoto and added a song as a sound track.  I exported it according to the instructions in the Help, but when I play it in QuickTime, there is no music.  What am I doing wrong?  The Quicktime Help says I should be able to choose whether or not to include the background music, but I'm not seeing that option anywhere.
    Thanks for any help!

Is the audio track one you purchased from iTunes and is DRM protected? If so then the protection prevents the audio from getting included in the QT movie file.
If you have Quicktime Pro 7 and Quicktime Player 7 you can add the movie to the audio track to get what you want.

  • Audio and video stop during the video playing

while watching a video the sound and the video will stop for a time and will restart play for a while and then stop again.  It does not play without the stops. Both stop and start together.

Try to download the application VLC.
It is a media player that should be able to play any audio or video file you may have. If your videos play flawlessly using that application, then the issue is with iTunes and Quicktime, as they are both essentially similar software types when it comes to playing media.
In that case you may need to install a plug-in file called Perian, in order for the videos to play correctly within iTunes or at least Quicktime...

  • You tube videos play about 11 seconds and then reset to the beginning...why?

You tube videos play about 11 seconds and then reset to the beginning and if i jump ahead in the video, it will play for a few seconds and then reset to the point that I jumped to. This started happening yesterday, 10/7/11. It only happens with you tube videos in the firefox browser. Videos from others sites such as vimeo play normally. You tube videos play normally using internet explorer. This is a windows 7 machine.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Can't play videos in MobileMe using IE7 and QuickTime 7.6.8

I am running Windows XP SP3, and have installed QuickTime 7.6.8. When I try to view a video in MobileMe that was created by a relative, I get a message saying that I need to have QuickTime 7.2 installed, and the video will not play. In fact, I have QuickTime 7.6.8 installed, so I don't know why I am getting this error message. I have looked in Internet Explorer add-ons, and there are no add-ons listed from Apple under the "currently loaded" tab. The QTPlugin.ocx is listed in the "add-ons that have been used" tab. Oddly enough (or not), the same video plays fine in Firefox, and looking at the add-ons in Firefox, it does list the QuickTime Plugin 7.6.8 that IE7 does not list.
Would really appreciate any help in resolving this! Thanks!

Are you able to open the QuickTime Player, rick? If so, does it tell you your QuickTime is out of date too (even though you've got a 7.6.8 installed)?

  • My MOV videos do not play when I burn a DVD using iPhoto.

My MOV movies do not play when I burn a DVD using iPhoto.  I can use the other method with my Mac to burn DVDs but the videos are not good quality like they are in my iPhoto albums.  How can I get better quality in the DVD videos if I am unable to burn a DVD using iPhoto?  I upgraded to the free Mavericks.

    Hi
Most common origin to this are:
Brand of DVD used - NoName, Memorex etc cheap brands might work as Data-DVDs - BUT NOT as Video-DVDs
Type of DVD used - I only use SL-DVD-R as they also playback on older DVD-players. DVD+R for newer DVD-players. Never ever DVD+/-RW. Dual-Layers usually creates more problems than Single-Layers
BURN SPEED - Very IMPORTANT factor - I never go faster than x4 - Normally I use x2
Material used - Video Codec, Photo and Audio file formats
Video-Codec: StreamingDV, AIC and HDV (I use)
Photo: .jpg - NO .bmp or other - all converted to .jpg first
Audio: .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz (as on Audio-CDs) - NO .mp3, wma etc ailient formats - all converted to ..aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz first
Free Space: on Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - I never go less than 25Gb when doing Video-DVDs (for SD-Quality Video - if HD material is used 4-5 times more are a safe low level) (Other external Hard Disks - DO NOT COUNT as space here can not be addressed by Mac OS or iDVD for it’s massive use of .temp files)
Dusty DVD-burner Laser: I use a Cleaning DVD (no liquid but the one with brushes) from time to time.
Harmed DVD-burner Laser: Easy to do by burning more than three DVDs at a time - I let it rest for 30 minutes till next batch of three DVDs. If this happened - then only a costly repair will help. It will not heal by it self.
OBS: There are more than one Laser in the DVD-Burner so other functions might work OK as Playback CD/DVDs and even burn CDs. Still being broken.

  • IPhoto - Video playing doesn't work with Snow Leopard.

Under Leopard, I use to be able to download photos and small video content from my camera straight into iPhoto. If I wanted to play a video in iPhoto, I just use to double click and Quicktime would open and play the video. Now, with Snow Leopard, nothing happens when I do this. Am I doing something stupid or is this another bug?
    Thanks.

For anybody who stumbles across this thread from Google:
I had the same issue using iPhoto '08 after upgrading to 10.6. I found a CNet article that describes the fix, which is basically that we have to re-install Quicktime 7 for use with '08 from the "Optional Installs" on the Snow Leopard disc, so you will end up with both Quicktime 10 and Quicktime 7 on your computer.
    The instructions are here:

  • Video upload from Iphone 5 to pc plays slow after few times in Quicktime player

I uploaded a video from my Iphone 5 to my pc and in the beginning it played well
But now if i try to play it plays really slow and chobby.. not good.
    Can't find any solution.

However, when I go to play them back in the latest Quicktime player the colours are wrong, mainly coming out purple.
On an XP system, the first thing I'd try would be the "Disable Direct3D acceleration in QuickTime" section of the following document. (iTunes uses QuickTime for video display, so the same basic troubleshooting step applies.) Restart the QuickTime Player prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect:

  • Embedded videos in Interactive PDF play sluggish

I have created an Interactive PDF using Indesign CS6. It is a 43 page pdf with a video embedded on 5 of those pages. When the final PDF is played on a PC, the videos seems to play sluggishly after watching a previous video. It seems there is some sort of background process going on once the videos play that hampers the playback of the next video. Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks,
    MD

    Thanks for your reply Dave.
The .mp4 videos are imported into InDesign and are controlled using one of the Skin options from the Media tab which allow the user to Play/Stop/Seek/Mute/Vol.
    The video sizes are 677k, 2.7mb, 3.9mb, 13.2mb, and 13.4mb.
Also, when I'm playing a video with audio, if I decide to go to the next page before stopping the video, the audio still plays in the background even though I'm on a different page. It doesn't look like there are too many options to choose from on the Media tab in InDesign so I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing to have more control over the video.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • PSE 7: Is it possible to use VLC instead of Quicktime to play movies?

Hi, I have VLC (VideoLAN)installed (using Vista). It plays my .mov video files. But PSE 7 still requests Quicktime to be installed. Isn't it possible to use VLC within PSE? Thanks. /Frank

It's not possible (that I know of) to play movies using the VLC engine within PSE.
You can try installing a QuickTime alternative and then you may be able to play the .mov files in the PSE Organizer, but I don't have PSE to tell you. See http://www.codecguide.com/qt_lite.htm for more info
you could go to http://www.adobe.com/go/wish/ and request this feature/functionality

  • Mute music when videos play in iPhoto

I have a presentation that combines photos and a few videos in iPhoto.  I am using music form my itunes library.  How can I get the music to stop playing or mute when the videos play in iPhoto (so we can hear the sounds from the imported video) then start or unmute the itunes music when iPhoto is back to showing photos?  Does that make sense?
    Pardon my ignorance.  Thank you!!
    jay

That's not a feature in iPhoto.  iDVD has such a feature but doesn't work very well at all.  You might be able to create the slideshow in iMovie and mute the added music during the video clips.  I don't use the latest version of iPhoto so can't help there.  It's easy if you use the older iMovie 6 HD version.

  • Cannot seem to get videos to play on realtime player or even quicktime

i have quicktime files which worked on all other macs but i bgt a new imac and not working on this
it tries to open using realtime player and quicktime and it plays but is always blank and no sound even though seems timeclock is moving as it plays
same with other video type files like avi and wmv files

    Hi khalid,
download "essential-macosx-x86-20060611.zip" (search for it) and see if that helps in your players.
The best general player is VLC, download 64-bit version.
Then you can control+click on the QT file, choose 'Open With', on the bottom choose 'Other...', choose 'VLC' and tick "Always Open With"...
You can use this for any other file if you want to use different app. then 'Recomended' ones.

  • How do I take photo's and video's off my iPhone without using iPhoto? It keeps crashing and to update I need to remove my photos-a catch 22??

How do I take the photo's and video's off my iPhone?... if 'iPhoto' on my mac keeps continually crashing and now refuses to open…?
I need to do this to update my apple software in iTunes, so that I can rid the bugs on my phone and take photo's again.
Is there another way to take the photos/videos off my iPhone and onto the mac? and also to delete them off the phone after I have put them on my hard drive?
It use to be as simple as find, drag and drop into a folder on my old pc. This should be much simpler, any advice or direction extremely welcome……?
    From iphotofandango

    Hi Iphotofandango,
There is an alternative to using iPhoto for transferring photos from an iOS device. You can use Image Capture, which will allow you to transfer photos easily. Image Capture is a tool already on your Mac. The following article may help:
Image Capture: Transfer images and other items from your device
Transfer images, video clips, and MP3 sounds to your computer from many cameras and devices that contain a camera, such as your iPhone. Once you transfer the items, you can delete them from the device.
Connect your device to your computer, then turn the device on.If the device is locked with a passcode, enter it.
In Image Capture, select the device in the Devices list.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the Image Capture window to view the thumbnails as a list or as icons to change the size of the thumbnails, or to rotate or delete images.
From the Import To pop-up menu, choose where to save the images or which app to use to open the image.
To import only some of the photos, select those photos, then click Import. To import all the photos, click Import All.Choose AutoImporter from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu to transfer images from a device to your computer whenever you connect it to your computer.
Select “Delete after Import” to remove the items from the device after transferring them to your computer. You can also select individual items on your device, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For more information about connecting and using your device, refer to the documentation that came with it.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • I want to play video on my computer to make some analysis to frames, the problem that I face ,I can't change video frame rate using labview, but I can change frame rate to the video out of labview using some program

    HI All
I want to play video on my computer to make some analysis to it's frames, the problem that I face ,I can't change video frame rate using labview, but I can change frame rate to the video out of labview using some program .
I used IMAQ AVI Read Frame VI
for example I have avi video It's frame rate is 25 fbs ,my image processing code is very fast that can process more 25 fbs,so I want to accelerate video acquisition

    Hi abdelhady,
I looked into this further, and reading an AVI file into LabVIEW faster than its frames per second won't be possible. LabVIEW could read in frames faster than 25fps, but because it will be pulling the available frame at that point in time this would just give you duplicate frames. If you want to be able to read in frames at faster than 25fps, you would need to speed up your AVI file before reading into LabVIEW.
There's a good shipping example to show how to read in from an AVI file, "Read AVI File.vi". You'll notice that they add timing to make sure that the while loop runs at the right speed to match up with the frames per second of the file being read. This is to make sure you're not reading duplicate frames.
