Videos quality problem (N510 - nvidia ion)

Hi,
I'm running arch on my samsung N510, with its nvidia ion (Geforce 9400M). I've some video quality problems. When images changes go quickly, stripes appear at the top. I made a capture (http://yfrog.com/7acapturewep) that shows the problem, it shows the stripes on the whole image It is not to be considered as my actual problem : during playback I see stripes only at the top of image.
I use the nvidia driver, tried with and without vdpau, and with different video players (mplayer, vlc...), with the same problem.
The videos are xvid, or h.264, HD or not.
Any idea ?

your problem is called tearing and it's a well known issue:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tearing
the nvidia drivers provide a seperate video output for media players that should prevent this, try:
xvinfo | grep Blitter
i have no tearing with composite enabled on my 6600GT
note that you do have to use the proper vide driver in mplayer. If you use smplayer, it's under options -> video. The nvidia anti-blitter output driver should be listed.

  • Canon Powershot sx50 video quality problems

I'm relatively new at working with video editing. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 9, and when I record with my Canon Powershot sx50 HS I get fuzz or fog when playing it on my computer. It's odd because when I put the video on my Samsung S4 and convert it into MP4 format the quality looks way better than on my computer. If I could get someone's email also I can hit up about general questions that would be awsome. I basically want to get the best quality out of the camera as possible. My lighting in my room is good so I don't understand why I get fog on my computer but not on my phone. As for my settings I use the DSLR-1080p DSLR-1080p24 then MPEG - Preset H.264 1920X1080i 30 which is Widescreen 16:9 Profile: High - Level: 4.0 - VBR,1 Pass Target Bitrate 20 Mbps Max Bitrate 21 Mbps Framerate 29.97 fps I'm wondering if my settings are wrong? What are the best Premiere Elements settings for a Cannon sx50?

I found a solution that works for me and since there are no other suggestions I'll pass it along in case others have this same problem.  What I ended up doing is installing CineForm and using it to convert AVCHD to HD.  It handles the 24p inside a 60i container issue and the converted files, when imported into PP CS4, look perfect.  The only drawback is that CineForm is not freeware but the price was more than worth the aggrevation it eliminated.

  • Video sync problem with nvidia quadro fx cards, edge blending on.

when I start edge blending feature of my nvidia quadro fx 3500 driver on 2 projectors, quicktime goes out of synchronization between audio and display. it's not directly related with framerate cuz my own opengl application with quicktime sdk, renders with 300+ fps succesfully but still the video is out of sync...

    Hi there, welcome to forum.
    "*Update*
I have a feeling that my PSU might be causing the low performance, seeing that the Quadro requires two power connectors to attach to it: (http://www.pny.com/support/quadro/install/FX4000AdditionalPowerRequirements.pdf)
    Here is my PSU:
    http://www.xpcgear.com/500wseepsubl.html
I do not know much about PSU's, so any input is greatly appreciated.  Thanks."
your PSU is good one and should be powerfull enough.
    Output    +3.3V@28A, +5V@30A, +12V@34A, [email protected], [email protected], +5VSB@2A
can't be power related, since at 1st your PSU must be enough, 2nd same issue happend with your old mx 440 VGA. card malfunction are dismissed as possibility as well since its work fine in another machine.
think its drivers mess. ATI drivers(or part of them) still exist, guess is not completely removed. same symptoms happend many times when switching between Ati to NV, lagging 2D scrolling lag and etc, caused by ATI Smart (part of ATI Drivers) sometimes remain(survive after driver cleaner).
suggest you a new clean fresh OS installation. like Nv support already directed. also ensure in BIOS, in "Integrated Peripherals", "Init Display First" are configured to AGP.
let we know how its going, if problem persist we a ready with a tips to resolve your issue.

  • Is there a difference in Video quality between ATI & Nvidia on 24" iMac's?

I am wondering if there is a quality in video and overall appearance between the ATI HD 256MB and the Nvidia 8800 512 on the 24" iMac's?
    Any feedback out there?
    Thanks.
    BB

No. Both will deliver an equal quality picture. The difference comes down to rendering performance in 3D Applications or video games. The 8800GT will be able to render more frames per second than the Radeon 2600. As a secondary the difference in Video memory 256MB vs 512MB might be important if you are planning on running an second display. Running 2 displays on one video card will split the video RAM between the two displays. So basically if you plan on running a second display or playing video games I would go for the 8800GT otherwise the Radeon 2600 will do just fine.

  • Flash player 10.1 video quality problem

Ever since I installed this version of flash player, the quality of streamed video has been absolutely horrible (Mostly on youtube and hulu).  Many of the videos should be in HD quality but are pixelated and fuzzy (especially when there is a lot of movement in the video) and it's appearance is similar to 240p or even worse. Shortly after having this issue, I unistalled the new update and reinstalled the previous version, which was more trouble than I expected, and the videos for the most part were fine. I eventually tried installed the latest update again and the problem is still there.  It's the same both in firefox and chrome and it makes videos almost unwatchable.
    So what is the problem?

Hi, many users have found improvement by turning off the hardware acceleration which is turned on by default with the FP 10.1. Just right click on a youtube video and change the Setting, Display Settings Panel.
Also it is recommended to update graphic and video drivers to the latest versions. Whether you need to do this you would know.

  • IChat video quality problem

hi guys. ive been using ichat recently. and its great. audio is good. No lag. video looks smooth... But that comes with a price. Whenever my friend makes a sudden movement. the video starts to distort for a few seconds. I've been reading that me and my friend should set our bandwidth at the same speed. However, this doesnt help. Im running on Leopard Aluminum Macbook 2009 model. Shes running on Snow Leopard Macbook Pro 2010 model.
    anyone else experiencing this?

    Hi,
At the Leopard end have you also set System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming to 1.5Mbps
In Leopard iChat reads the Quicktime Streaming speed and sets this as the Bandwidth.
It does not read the Automatic Setting that well and iChat 4 makes iChat see this as only 384kbps
If you have to change this restart iChat so it "Sees" the new speed.
1.5Mbps may still cap some of your Internet Speed.
However it is more than enough for iChat to Host 4 way Video chats.
This can be seen in two ways:-
    1) At a basic level it gets the most out of your Connection that can be managed for iChat.
    2) With modern internet speeds, it caps everyone to with a narrow band of speed.
What this then does it stops or rather smooths out variances in your connection speed which in turn helps the iChat Buffering.
In iChat you can see you variances (and that of your Buddy) in the Connection Doctor (Video menu) during a chat.
If your Upload speed is greater than 1.5Mbps then the Quicktime setting will be a limit.
However a 5% variance of your speed of a max of 1.5Mbps in iChat 4 is likely to be significantly less than someone in iChat 5 with a 20Mbps Upload and download speed. iChat's buffering seems to cope with the variances of the 1.5Mbps setting.
iChat 5 can only be capped within iChat itself, which is why I have suggested it.
(it does not have the Quicktime setting). It gives a better chance for the iChat Buffering to cope.
I mostly use use my G4 running OS 10.5.8 to do iChat.
I have one Buddy with Mac Pro (therefore OS 10.6.4) and I must admit this iChat 4 to iChat 5 connection is the most unstable of all the cross version chat I have tried.
One more thing that may help is more Light.
The less light there is the less chance the camera has of producing a stable Video Stream even on an Intel.
Window to one side or behind the person can make the face and hand difficult to pick out as the camera is trying to balance out the brightness behind the person.
Night-time with low levels of front on light can be a problem as well.

  • External HD causing Picture/Video Quality Problems

    (cross posted in Quicktime) -
Hey everyone, I have been having video issues on Quicktime and they (unfortunately) correspond to two different recent changes. One is my purchase of an external HD (Western Digital Passport 120Gig) and the second is the upgrade of Quicktime. I don't know exactly where to post this question, but I'll post it here as the issue only occurs with videos. In essence, the problem is that the videos become intensely pixelated when playing off of the external HD, and the videos which have been on my system appear to have been affected but clearly not to the degree of those which I transferred off of the system.
If I am not mistaken, videos which I have put on my system after the last time I had the external HD connected seem to be fine. This is why my concern is that the issue is with the external HD. The HD requires a Y-USB connector which I bought separate from the HD itself. Anyway, the issues with the videos on the HD are really severe, and the problems with those on my internal HD are certainly noticeable. Is this just a matter of needing to get the USB cable from Western Digital (the Western Digital website recommends purchasing the Y-USB cable from them, but I bought it at RadioShack)? Is it unfixable? Is it something else that I am not noticing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just for clarification, you bought a WD passport and need to use the Y-USB cable to connect to your Macbook Pro? I'm a bit confused, but isn't that cable only needed when a USB port can't put out enough power to the drive from the computer?
I ask because I have a Macbook Pro and a WD passport and I don't need a special cable to connect to it. I just plug it in with the regular USB cable that came with it. This is a wild crazy guess (and probably not true), but perhaps that may be a problem with your issue?

  • Horizontal video tearing in xfce and ion graphics (nvidia)

    Hello all,
I have arch + xfce running no problems, but there is significant horizontal video tearing when I play videos (in vlc or firefox/flash). I have already enabled 'Sync to VBlank' within the nvidia-utils control panel. I think the problem arises from the xfce monitor settings window that only allows the frequency output to the monitor to be 50Hz. Can someone confirm this and/or offer advice?
    Thanks again,
    DF

Since Devotedfollower is using a nvidia ion card he will get the best results without compositing at all.
If you want to use a nvidia card along with compiz without tearing, I found these additional steps to be necessary:
    put
    Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
under Section "Device" in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you don't have one, run "nvidia-xconfig" once as root)
put "nvidia-settings -l" into your startup applications
install and launch ccsm, open up the general options and look for a tick called "Sync to VBlank" and activate it
within these general options there is a tick called "recognize refresh rate" (or something alike); deactivate it
try playing around with the refresh rate slider (I got the best results when using the exact refresh rate for my display or something higher)
Note that these steps are only necessary if you really want to use compiz on nvidia cards. They worked with several GTX cards for me. Don't know about your ION though.
My netbook has an ION but it was one of the first ones. As far as I can remember it had no tearing on xfce without compositing but on compiz it had a bit tearing at the top of screen even with all the steps above.
Nevertheless I wish you best luck!
P.S. Tearing has always been a huge problem on Linux for me. After a lot research I found compiz being the only compositor able to almost eliminate tearing. So the only choice for nvidia users to get rid of video tearing is either to use no compositing at all (which results in teary desktop graphics) or to use compiz along with vdpau...

  • MacMini - LG 32" (32LB75) Problem - Poor video quality and now no picture.

Hi there, apologies for the length of this post....
I purchased a mac mini 1.8Ghz with 2Gb RAM yesterday with a wireless keyboard and mouse and hooked it up to my 32" LG 32LB75 using VGA. On startup the display looked ok, I managed to click through the various Leopard initialisations. I bought the machine for use as a front room media player for mainly DivX movies and the occasional bit of music.
Once I had installed the DivX codec I opened a DivX file in Quicktime and selected "full screen mode." As soon as the movie started I became quite disappointed. The picture quality was quite pixelated ("noisy") and certainly not as good as when I play the same movie file from my old dell PC on the same LG tv (the dell PC has a 64Mb PCI radeon 7000 which connects to the tv using the same VGA port as the mac).
Anyway just to give the mac a fair go I thought I would try out some genuine quicktime video samples from the itunes store (this time viewed from front row)....again not brilliant.
So I thought I would investigate the screen resolution to see if I could improve things. It appeared the resolution was set to 1900 by 1200ish I say "ish" because I can't remember exactly. I then attempted to reduce the resolution and eventually I settled on one that looked quite clear with the font size big enough to be easily read. Again I tried the movie and there wasn't much (if any improvement). Whilst changing resolutions the screen would go blank for a few seconds but on one particular setting (can't remember exact numbers) the display went blank and never came back. The tv now just displays "no signal".
I despaired and connected the mac to a 17" Iiyama montior that I use with a PC and it worked ok. However each time I tried to "hot swap" back to the television I would end up with no picture.
I'm really disappointed because everything else about the mac I really like. Particularly the remote for frontrow which is precisely what I wanted it for. The problem is I've spent over £500 and now seem to have a lesser quality picture than I had to begin with (ignoring for the moment that I don't have any picture!!)
Anyway my questions are these, answers to any or all most appreciated.
    1) what is the easiest way to get my mini to start displaying on my tv again?
    2) what would the optimum resolution be? My television mentions 1366 x 768 in the manual
    3) If the mini doesn't offer this resolution in the pick list is it advisable to "force it" using some alternative software (ie 3dexpress.de)?
    4) Is the video quality affected by the software player? ie would VLC give better picture with DivX over quicktime/itunes/front row?
    5) How likely is it that the video resolution of my new mac mini isn't "as good" as my old dell machine with its PCI graphics card?
    6) Finally if I don't get results as good as my existing PC setup, how accomodating are apple with refunds? I bought it from a UK high-street apple store. The back of the receipt mentions a "14 day not satisfied" return policy but then goes on to say something about being "unopened"...which seems a little confusing. Ie how do you know if you're satisfied until you've actually used it?

    Hi there
the solution was to remove the various display config files in leopard and then restart the machine, this got my display back on the tv (albeit off centre). To fix the "off centre issue" I used the LG "auto correct" feature from the remote control "menu > screen" options.
The apple support site describes how to remove the affected leopard display files here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2213?viewlocale=en_US As you will see their resolution consists of 2 main steps, the first one involves starting your machine in safe mode, if this doesn't work then you proceed to the second step where you remove the files using a terminal prompt.
I didn't bother with the first step mainly because I don't think I can start my mac in safe mode since my only keyboard is wireless (bluetooth). So I connected the mac mini to a 17" LCD monitor (which thankfully did display the video signal ok) and removed all the listed files using terminal. I then shut the mac down, swapped the VGA cable back to the LCD tv restarted the mac and it detected the tv and set a resolution that worked. I then very carefully reduced the resolution down to one that was recommended by my tv (1300ish.. x 768ish??).
At this point I was back to having an acceptable signal but still a little off centre. So I used the TV remote, pressed menu, went into screen options and chose "auto correct". Picture then filled the screen perfectly.
The problem seems to be, leopard lists a bunch of resolutions that it believes your tv/display can handle but it would appear that in fact some of these resolutions are not supported by your TV and if you choose one of these your signal disappears and you can't get it back.
I would still say that I'm not 100% convinced with the mac mini's onboard graphics (I have a 1.8GHz version). I'm going to download some HD content and see if that improves things, but certainly my existing DivX collection looked a little sharper and clearer and better coloured using my old dell PC with its radeon PCI card. But the difference in picture quality is outweighed by the convenience of its size and the font row interface. I might tinker with putting Windows Media Center on it one day, perhaps that might improve things.

  • Strange problems with nvidia video card

    Hi, I don't know if it's really a problem, but I suppose...
I had in the last days serious problems with the nvidia card and ubuntu (see ubuntuforums or askubuntu).
Resuming I couldn't boot ubuntu if the nvidia card was enabled...
Now I only use windows because of this problem but I have another doubt: why the power manager sometimes don't show me the GPU usage (see image)?
In any case the nvidia (I think) is always working (the external monitor plugged in  the DisplayPort works... I think that's a confirmation)
Another question: at times when I watch video on youtube the nvidia is enabled at others not... is this a problem of optimus or not?
For me it's important that windows works (no problem if ubuntu doesn't works.. I posted the links of the problems with ubuntu just  for information on what's happened before this problem with windows..

I'm using Firefox with html 5...
But I also tried also with chrome, in which the html 5 mode in youtube is not activate, and I have the same problem...
I find it strange because if i have the monitor plugged in the nvidia GPU is activated (of course) and if i'm whatching a video on youtube when i disconnect the monitor the GPU won't switch to the intel but it still remains the nvidia activated until i close this video..

You can have Apple replace the logic board, but it will be at your expense.  The free replacement program has ended.

  • Having problems with video quality in iDVD 09

I have created a slide show in iMovie with audio. When saved it is in a .mov format. I burned it to DVD using the burn folder option. It has great video quality in that format. Since most DVD players won't accept the .mov format or some PC's, I wanted the most common format for viewing. I exported the movie to iDVD and used these settings..
    Video Mode-NTSC
    Aspect Ration 16:9 widescreen
    Encoding-Professional Quality
    DVD Type-Single-Layer (SL)-4.2 GB
When going from the .mov format to the MPEG-2 format ( I think this is the output format for iDVD)
The quality is very poor. It seems to have wavy lines throughout the file, especially when someone is wearing patterned clothing.
Anyone know how to get the same quality of the .mov file to something that will be viewable across multiple platforms???
Would using moviegate conversion software be an answer????

a mov can contain all kind of codecs and esp. resolutions..
a videoDVD, by standards, has a 720x480 res, and is interlaced.
=> quality HAS to be 'lower' than any 5Mpix on a HiDef computer screen..
but, I did tons of slideshows with iMHD6 and iDVD.. for me, quality is superb.. for sure, tiny 'checker patterns', 'sub pixel lines' etc. HAVE to flimmer..

  • Poor video quality after rendering or publishing iMovie video - Problem?

After completing production of an iMovie video and then publishing it, the video quality is absolutely horrible. Is the normal or am I doing something wrong?

I hope the iMovie programming team at Apple is READING THESE POSTS, plus the other threads complaining of the lousy quality that results when interlaced video (480i or 1080i) is imported into iMovie '09 (even with all the recent updates). Various folks and e-book authors have posted workarounds, but these are cumbersome and defeat the entire purpose of iMovie -- which should be a simple and elegant video editing solution. Millions of users have interlaced video which they would like to edit (for you novices, you're affected if your video was shot on mini-DV tapes, or the HDV format -- plua many other non-tape formats also use interlaced video, so check your camera's specs).
Apple, PLEASE ADDRESS THIS GLARING FLAW in iMovie '09. It's absurd that iMovie 6/HD, which worked flawlessly with DV and HDV footage, is no longer supported. IMovie '09 has many great features, but what value are they if the end-product looks bad?

  • Problems with nvidia and hdtv

    Hello,
i'm having troubles using a specific TV (Metz) as monitor for my netbook.
graphics card is nvidia ION, netbook is Samsung N510.
There is no problem connecting to my Acer Monitor or my Grundig flat TV via HDMI and nvidia-settings - sound does also work.
When I try to connect to my parent's Metz TV it just don't work. I tried out every combination of 1920x1080 or 1360x768 resolution and every possible refresh rate in nvidia-settings - got no picture.

When I used Windows 7 it had no problems on that TV.

  • Crackling/substandard sound in flash videos (YouTube etc) regardless of video quality setting.

    Hi all,
I hope you can help! Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I'm struggling to find the best place to put this.
    1. a summary of your issue
Crackling/substandard sound in flash videos (YouTube etc) regardless of video quality setting.
    2. the type of computer you use—Mac or PC?
    Desktop PC.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, all updates installed.
    3. steps you've already taken to troubleshoot
The problem occurs after installing Adobe Flash Player 15 Plugin to any browser (I mainly use FireFox). It's listed as Adobe Flash Player 15 ActiveX when I installed it for Internet Explorer.
Before installing it, I can hear the videos fine but I am limited to a maximum of 720p quality on YouTube.
I removed my sound and graphics drivers, after restart Windows 7 decides it will install them again but as the generic/universal ones. No change.
I've heard that because I have the Windows Aero theme activated, I need to disable hardware acceleration - tried this in various ways:
    a) Generic PnP monitor Troubleshoot tab - Change Settings button is greyed out (whether or not I have the real/generic/universal graphics drivers installed). Can't find a way through nVidia control panel to do this either.
    b) Disabled hardware acceleration in FireFox - no change.
    c) Found on your forum here that I can go to a page which will check my Flash version, in theory I could right-click it, hit Settings and disable hardware acceleration there - no "Settings" option in right-click menu. Seems the page has changed.
I can't seem to find a way to interface with Flash directly to disable hardware accelerattion - if this is indeed the solution.
Regardless of Windows Aero theme, I've got it on basic theme now and still the same problem.
I recently reformatted and re-installed my PC, it was working fine before I did this (maybe I had an old Flash release installed?).
I'm at my wit's end... please help!

Sorry, it's all sorted now. After re-installing the sound drivers, decided to tinker with the settings one by one. I had my Creative sound card in Game Mode, thus it was assuming 2.1 speakers aka headphones. Put it in Entertainment Mode and it recognised all the 5.1 speakers for flash videos. Doh!
