Videos take a LONG time to download

I am using iTunes 6 (the latest update) and videos take a really long time to download. For just one video it takes 10 minutes to download. Could someone give me some advice or tips to make video downloads go faster? Thanks.

That depends mainly on the speed of your internet connection (and on the load of the download server).
Let's say the video to download is about 200MByte and you're using a 4Mbit/s DSL connection like me.
200MByte x 8 = 1600Mbit / 4Mbit/s = 400 second (in theory) = 6min40sec

    Netflix, HBO Go, ABC TV along with other apple TV apps, take a very long time to download the video and they are choppy when running. My apple TV runs off of WiFi in my apartment. When trying to download updates, it take a long time and then a video screen with "This Update was not Successful. Apple TV couldn't be downloaded at this time. Try again later." What can I do to resolve this issue? I purchased this apple TV in May 2013 new.

    That will be an issue with the network
    What is your current connection via speedtest.net?
    Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general -network)
    Since you are in an apartment the local wifi network is more prone to interference, try ethernet

  • Mail takes considerably long time to download attachments

    Hello,
    Wondering if anybody has run into a solution for this problem:
    Mail (Version 3.5, build 930.3) takes a VERY, VERY long time to download any attachments. I am using only ONE account - MobileMe.
    Whenever I receive a message with an attachment (from Mac or PC) that is over 100K, Mail just crawls to a near stop when trying to download it. In fact, if the attachment is over 1MB, there is an excellent chance that the Mail program will hang altogether. I commonly will have to force quit the Mail application in order to get it working on the download again. THIS is the real problem. All other "text-only" messages come in at a normal speed and render almost instantly. In a message where there is a large attachment, the message and it's contents appear almost instantly, but the attachment(s) sits at the bottom, middle, or top of the message and remain "greyed out" while downloading. I get no indication that the attachment is downloading from the server in the mail activity pane either. It just sits there blank. Eventually the image will appear in the body of the message, but only if I click on another message in my inbox and then "click back" to the attachment message.
    I just sent myself a message as a test. It was a 4.5MB Tiff file. It sent out from my account in about 45 seconds (ending in the "Swoosh" sound.) When Mail detected the new message a few seconds later, the download from MobileMe's servers took an astonishing 14 minutes to completely download and render in the body of my message. I can see no rhyme or reason as to why this is happening, but it has been present for over a year, even through OS updates, mail rebuilds, optimizations, and IMAP settings alterations.
    The same download speed can be achieved on my wife's iPod Touch. Very fast.
    The really strange thing is that my iPhone does NOT do this. I sent the same image again to my account and checked my mail with my iPhone instead. It took the same 45 seconds to send the image, but the iPhone was able to download and display the image in the iPhone mail App in just over a minute. This is using the exact same internet connection in my house, not Edge or 3G.
    I have rebuilt my mailbox, deleted all accounts and settings, and have started from scratch several times. I am beginning to think that this is either an issue with the OS, or a major problem with my Mail application itself.
    Any ideas on what may be causing this? I am using the standard MobileMe IMAP account settings that are provided when you set up a new Mail account.
    Thanks for any help you can provide - this is driving me crazy. I have had to tell all of my friends to NOT send me any messages over 1MB or it will destroy my mail application for several minutes.

    ME TOO!!!! This has been driving me nuts!!! I've been trying to streamline my workflow and integrate everything the way it's SUPPOSED to work, to no avail! Does anyone know anything about this at all? Is apple looking into this? Does anyone have suggestions?
    With me, it's any msg that has an image file, which is every email my school sends me! The msg doesn't display, Mail hangs and I have to force quit.
    HELP!!!

    One other thing thing you might try, is a +*Verify Disk+* (not permissions) on your internal HD. That will not take anything like 40 hours! If it reports problems, you'll have to boot from your Install disc and use it's copy of DU to repair it. Post back if you need to do this but aren't sure how.
    I think it's very fishy that Repair Disk took 40 hours -- it seems like any operation that touches the hard drive on the Time Capsule takes a long time. Maybe the hard drive is having problems? What sort of problems could a drive have that would make everything VERY slow, but still successful?
    Try connecting via an Ethernet cable; see what effect that has. Everything should be faster, of course, but not wildly. Just as an example, I'm doing backups to a USB hard drive via my Airport Extreme, about 15 feet from my iMac. When I first started that way, I did a full backup via Ethernet (about 21 gb/hour), then erased it and ran again wirelessly (about 12 gb/hour).
    Even 5 feet apart, you may have some sort of interference or other communications problem; if Ethernet is many times faster, then you may need to have your TC and/or wireless card examined.

    It depends on your download speed. It is over 4GB so it can take a few hours, sometimes more. How long has it been going for now?

  • Videos take a long time to open after the last quicktime update

    Hey guys
    Since I've downloaded the latest quicktime update videos are taking a very long time to open. They used to open instantly and now they take about 40 seconds (negligable difference if quicktime is already open or not).
    This is with a Powermac G4 1.25Ghz with 2GB RAM running 10.4.10 and all latest updates.
    Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    I'd suggest tracing system activity when this long runtime issue occurs, so you could know where this time is spent (db access ? etc) ... a plain SM50 call in parallel could do the trick if runtime is long enough !

  • Saving Video Takes a LONG Time

    Howdy, everyone. I am currently shopping around for a video editing application, and I'm using the trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements. I like everything about it so far, except for one thing. It takes a very long time to save the final video file (from the Share tab). I've noticed that it gets to 50% fairly quickly, probably under five minutes, and at that point the progress bar slows to a crawl. It takes more than two hours for the last 50% to complete. Is this unusual, or is this what I should expect?
    Here's a little background of my project, in case that helps.
    The video project is just under 30 minutes.
    From the Share tab, I'm choosing to Export files for viewing on computers.
    The type of video I want is WMV (Windows Media). I cannot vary from this format. It's a requirement of the project.
    Frame size: 1024 x 768. At this time I cannot vary from this size. The video must be 1024 x 768.
    Frame Rate: 30 fps
    Audio Setting: 48kbps, 44 kHz, mono CBR
    Codec: Windows Media 9
    Encoding Passes: 1
    Bitrate Mode: Constant  (I've also tried Variable Quality, but noticed no difference in rendering time)
    Maximum Bitrate: 200 kbps (The first time, I tried 2,000 kbps but I noticed no difference in rendering time)
    Image Quality: 3 (I've also tried 90 but again with no noticable difference in rendering time)
    My Laptop:
    Windows XP Pro SP3
    Intel Core2 Duo 2.2GHz
    2GB of RAM
    The window says I should expect the video size to be 53MB in size, which seems reasonable. But when it finishes, it's more than ten times larger than that estimation. I don't understand why the filesize is so large and the rendering time is so long.
    Is my rendering time being governed or throttled back because I'm using a trial version of Premiere Elements?
    If not, what suggestions do you all have for me? Am I being unreasonable by expecting my rendering time to be quicker than the duration of the video?
    Thanks in advance for your help. Please let me know if I can provide any other details.

    WMV is a heavily-compressed format/CODEC, and the processing time will depend on several factors:
    Your CPU, which is not that powerful in your case
    Your I/O sub-system, which is likely a single HDD on your laptop
    The source footage. What is your source footage?
    Any Effects added to that footage. Do you have any Effects?
    Each of those will have an impact on the time required.
    The trial has only one main limitation - the watermark. Now, there are some components, that have to be activated, but are not with the trial, but they would be evident with Import of your source footage, if it's an issue.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Upgrades or restorations take a long time to download

  • Once my iBook updated it take a long time to downloaded it

    From iTunes store
    My free iBook has just 13 mo and it took more than 10 minutes to get it frome iBook store
    Is there a way to get it faster as it used to be before the update?

    There are a couple reasons it may be taking a long time to start:
    * Extensions may be slowing it down. Some, including antivirus toolbars, Browser Highlighter, and Skype extension are known to cause delays. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
    * If you are getting delays where the status bar says "Waiting for site" or "Connecting to", make sure Firefox is fully allowed in all firewall software. See [[Firewalls]]

  • Bootcamp Help: Windows Support Software takes a long time to download

    I know download time depends on the internet speed but its weird. I have a mid 2012 13" Macbook Pro and I have tried numerous amount of times to install windows 7. Last night it downloaded within a few minutes, and I have a 3mbps dial-up wifi connection, and my mac died as I forgot to put it on the charger as windows was installing and so I had to remove the windows partition and I let it download the Widnows Support Software over night. It never finished and it still said it was trying to download. It never moved any further. I try and use my iPhone 4S Personal Hot Spot with a 4G plan and it still wouldn't download. And my hotspot is twice as fast as my home wifi network. Is there any way to find where the software is downloading to and then copy it in case this happens again?

    Hi,
    This could be also related add-ons.
    Add-ons are apps that browsers use to interact with web content like videos and games. Incompatible or out-of-date add-ons might cause Internet Explorer to run slowly, crash, or prevent sites from displaying correctly. You might want to turn off all add-ons,
    and then turn them back on only as you need them.
    1.Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
    2.Tap or click the Tools button Tools button, and then tap or click Manage add-ons.
    3.Under Show, tap or click All add-ons, and then select the add-on you want to turn off.
    4.Tap or click Disable, and then tap or click Close
    If issue persists, let’s try to reset Internet Explorer settings.

  • IPod 30GB generation 5 Video takes a long time to start up/load

    The iPod i currently own takes a while to load where i can operate it. The last time i used it was a while ago and i gave up on it, now im back at it. It wouldnt play the songs so i tried to restore it after i did that, my itunes would not find it nor my mac. I am running into a brick wall with this one. any answers?

    Wow I'm dense. I even looked at that file and I didn't see what it was doing. I just changed /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml and took out a few entries.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <channel name="xfce4-session" version="1.0">
    <property name="general" type="empty">
    <property name="FailsafeSessionName" type="string" value="Failsafe"/>
    </property>
    <property name="sessions" type="empty">
    <property name="Failsafe" type="empty">
    <property name="IsFailsafe" type="bool" value="true"/>
    <property name="Count" type="int" value="5"/>
    <property name="Client0_Command" type="array">
    <value type="string" value="xfwm4"/>
    </property>
    <property name="Client0_PerScreen" type="bool" value="false"/>
    <property name="Client3_Command" type="array">
    <value type="string" value="xfdesktop"/>
    </property>
    <property name="Client3_PerScreen" type="bool" value="false"/>
    <property name="Client4_Command" type="array">
    <value type="string" value="xfce4-settings-helper"/>
    </property>
    <property name="Client4_PerScreen" type="bool" value="false"/>
    </property>
    </property>
    <property name="splash" type="empty">
    <property name="Engine" type="string" value=""/>
    </property>
    </channel>
    Now it doesn't start xfce4-panel or Thunar --daemon and I don't have to use the session manager. And start up is way faster than with the session manager, which is clearly not working properly.

    Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
    When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
    So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed.

  • Does movie download normally take a long time?

    Trying to download a movie but it take a long time (been 8 hours), not sure if it the wifi speed. Any insight?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
    1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
