Videos to disk & back to ipod?
I just upgraded to an iPod video and I've been getting videos from iTunes Music Store. However, I am running out of memory on my computer so I need to periodically clean up my hard drive. Is it possible to put the videos on a CD so that I can delete it from my computer (to free up space) but still be able to watch the videos and perhaps upload it back onto my iPod if I ever take them off my iPod? I want to be able to to put more videos on my iPod, but as of now, I have too much "purchased" and no more computer HD space. Help? =) Thanks!
Windows XP 30GB iPod 5G video, 2GB iPod Nano, 1 GB Shuffle
You can burn the files themselves to a CD or DVD.
You can watch the videos on your iPod through your computer, if you wanted to.
A better option may be to purchase an external HD and put media on there.

When you update or restore an iPod via iTunes if synced medial like apps, music or synced photos are not in the iTunes library or not on the computer they will bot be on the iPod after update/restore since the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media.
DId anything get restored from the backup you made? -

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

Video Went Blank - Caused by iPod???
Hello
Ok here's my problem.... I turned on my Mac earlier today and after plugging in my iPod I had walked away to get something and when I came back the screen was blank. BUT I couldn't get the video back, I pushed the mouse button, keyboard and nothing. I was able to get the sounds when I pushed the sound buttons on the keyboard but the screen stayed blank. Now, maybe this is where I goofed, I don't know, anyway, I got desperate so I turned it off, waited a little bit and turned it back on. I got the start up sound but still no video. I unplugged my iPod and the screen popped up with the start up apple screen. Now, my iPod never did connect to the Mac, I use a dock and sometimes the iPod doesn't connect; if I push it in a little bit then it will connect and act normal. After logging in again, I noticed one of my external drives didn't connect (it didn't even show up in disk utility) so I turned off the drive that wasn't showing up and it complained that the other drive had been disconnected. (?) When I turned it back on, both drives showed up on the desktop and now everything appears to be working normal.
My question: What happened and should I be worried about this?
specs:
eMac G4 800MgHz
1GB RAM
160GB internal (upgraded)
2 Firewire external drives - 40GB (old one from inside) and 120GB
OS X 10.3.9
iTunes 7.5
could the drive problem be caused by the firewire chain? I have my superdrive plugged into a hard drive which is plugged into the other external HD which is plugged into the Mac. I have this setup because I don't have enough ports for the 3 HDs and my iPod. I found out the hard way that iPods don't like to be in Firewire chains.

Itunes music videos won't sync to ipod
Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have been trying to resolve this problem for a month. My daughter has a 5th generation video ipod. When she updated her ipod all of her music videos were erased from her ipod. They remain and play in itunes, but wont transfer to itunes. There is a message that states some files weren't transferred to ipod because they are not compatible, but they are and they used to be on the ipod. Once again files that used to play now won't transfer and are being labeled as incompatible. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. We are about to go on a trip and having her ipod work, would make it a much more relaxing trip for me... Thanks
After my computer freezes itunes says: Attempting to copy the disk "ipod name" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. It also says: itunes could not copy "name of a song" to the ipod "ipod name" because the file could not be read or written. This is after it synced all but 100 of my 800 songs and all of my apps.

Hello Folks
I've sorted out the pictures problem wit my classic.
But now the Videos, When i first loaded a bath of videos (Encoded with any video converter as .mp4) to my Classic 2009, they played fine on the ipod and itunes, yesterday tried to load another videos (encoded with E.M.C Total Video Converter) as mp4 extension.
All the videos play well on itunes. but those i tried to load yesterday yes they trasferred to ipod, I got no message like "cannot transfer to ipod", they transferred well.
When i clicked videos> and selected one of them, they played briefly for about 5 s. and then the menu returned back....
I tried resetting, restoring and no avail... so here's the info i gathered with MediaInfo

Problem getting Videos to play back to back...
I have ripped some Music Video from DVDs and my ipod will play them fine. It just wont play them back to back. Thus in a playlist it just plays the videos that I have bought from Itunes. I can manually play the videos (ripped) but it always only then plays the others I bought and ignores the videos I have placed on the Ipod..
Any help out there..
thanks
MarkThe process is the same but the constraints are slightly different - there are plenty of threads on the subject and as long as the video complies with the specification below, it will transfer. If it isn't transferring then there is something out of spec for that particular video.
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format -
Trouble syncing videos and photos to my iPod
When i plug my iPod to my computer then open iTunes i select which videos or photos i want loaded on to my iPod, i then click 'Apply' on iTunes. It then says it's syncing but never does. Instead it brings up a message saying 'The iPod "Bobby's iPod" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found'. What does that mean and how can i continue to sync my iPod and load videos and photos to my iPod?? do i need to reset my iPod or iTunes?? If anyone could please help it would be GREATLY appreciated thank you.

IPod music and videos gone; can't locate iPod Controls
this has just happened to me.
i double clicked on a song to play, while my iPod was patched into my computer. it started playing, and i clicked up in the now playing portion to skip through part of the song. everything is now gone. i got a new computer because my old one had crashed out. The computer is 3 days old and Today (day of the problem) is the third day i've been using my iPod in the exact same way, and I have been used it this way on my old computer since December. for the record i manually update, and since my old computer is crashed out i cannot simply resynch. also, when i reconnected my iPod after the problem it wanted me to go thru the same process as when your iPod is brand new (naming, choosing auto update or not, register).
Could it be that when i installed a more current version of iTunes/iPod software, the i Pod erased from an update or something?
If so, why would it do this now and not three days ago when i first plugged my iPod into my new computer with the new iTunes/iPod software?
Lastly, I noticed others who have had a similar problem were able to recover their music by going into the iPod through My Computer and going to a iPod control folder, then to a music folder. I can't find either in my iPod, or anywhere on my computer. The only files in there are Calendars, Contacts, Notes (none of which i ever used) and Photos (and all of my photos were still there, giving me hope my music and videos are still there somewhere). Does anyone know how I can find it?
iPod video 30GB Windows XPalso, when i reconnected my iPod after the problem it wanted me to go thru the same process as when your iPod is brand new (naming, choosing auto update or not, register).
hmmmm. with that symptom, we'd better check on this possibility:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
you might have to put the ipod into disk mode to get her to show up in Disk Management:

I could do with some help...i just downloaded the 2.1 firmware and its asking me to back up ipod and i said yes but my harddrives full....ive changed the place where it saves files to my external hard drive but it still refuses to back up....i really need the files on the ipod backing up so if any one can tell me how to change where it backs the files up or another way i can back up my ipod for free please tell me
in iTunes enable iPod for disk use(don't let iTunes sync) . Then enable view of hidden files and folders. go to you iPod (same drive as flash drive now) and go into ultilites the music (i think)either way open a folder titled music there should be F01, Fo2, F03, ect. Copy all of these files to MyDocuments\MyMusic\iTunes\Music
Then go to iTunes click File Add Folder to Library. Select the iTunes Music Folder from and that should be it. All the track names should also be added. Good Luck
f any post helps or solves your issue, please mark it that way accordingly. Thank you for helping the boards! -
I cannot tranfer video from my macbook to ipod touch.
I cannot tranfer video from my macbook to ipod touch, I drag and drop my video to my itunes from my movies folder on my macbook, but it flips back, thus I have nothing to sink to my ipod touch. i have followed the tutorials but nothing works, any advice would be great.
Hi and welcome to Apple discussion.
Usually, when I get this message, that means the movie/video is not able to be play using my iPod touch. So, what I'll do is that, I'll open the movie/video in QuickTime and share it to iTunes. Then, my movie/video can be transfer into my iPod.
Hope that helps.

Videos won't play on iPod touch?
So, I have two iPod touch, 4th gen and 5th gen, I recently downloaded some videos outside of iTunes, they will sync onto my 5th gen iPod and play just fine, but when I try to sync them onto my 4th gen iPod it say's "I't cannot be played on this iPod". Why? It's an MPEG-4 file and I have plenty of space on my iPod. I've tried resetting it. Everything, why is this? And does anyone know how I can play them on my iPod touch 4th generation?
Maybe here:
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
However, I looked a the specs for the 4G and 5G and they both say they play the same video formats.
All I can suggest is the stand at fixes
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. -
Okay, why am I unable to view videos when I plug my iPod into my computer?
I have a new computer (from school) and when I plug in my iPod, I see the music but no videos or photos. When I set it to auto sync music and select the same for video, the Video menu for my Ipod does not appear using iTune. The video is there on my iPod and all I'm doing is plugging it in. Why can I not find/play it?
I have exactly the same problem. I have checked that the "sync videos" box is ticked under the Movies tab but to no avail.
Another suggestion was to drag the film over the Ipod icon on the menu bar at the left of the page. When I try to do this a little red circle with a diagonal line through it appears over the mouse pointer. I cannot find anywhere on the support pages that explains what this means. The film will open up and play on my pc within itunes. Why won't it sync with the ipod ?
Any other suggestions ?
