Videos uploaded to Facebook look awful

I'd heard from several sources that it's best for FB exposure to upload my videos directly to Facebook instead of posting a link to Vimeo or YouTube. I uploaded some videos I'd used Vimeo's settings (and look great on Vimeo), but they looked really bad. So, I went to Facebook and I checked their recommended settings and then encoded them with Facebook's recommended settings. My uploaded videos still look really bad. Is there any way to get them to look good when uploaded directly to FB?

I recently shot some concert videos in 1080i HDV and edited in CS6, then exported as Vimeo 1080p29.97 and uploaded to Facebook.
They looked NASTY on Facebook - until I hit the "HD" button at the lower right of Facebook player, otherwise it defaults to terrible, washed-out blurry gray image. In HD mode, I can make it full screen on my HD display and it is beautiful. I have no complaints about Facebook video.

Have you tried on another computer? If it doesn't work there it is a site issue.

Just as we know Windows Live Movie Maker .wlmp file is not a valid video file but a movie project file from which a video file can be generated in Windows Live Movie Maker and this .wlmp project files cannot be opened and played by any media players like VLC, QuickTime, iTunes, iPod, iPad, iPhone or uploaded to YouTube, Facebook for sharing, let alone to play WLMP on Mac.
Though we can reopen this WLMP files in Windows Live Movie Maker on a Windows PC and then save and export the .wlmp project files to WMV video format, we are still unable to play the exported WMV on Mac. IPhone-App: video upload with imagePickerController - big problem

I have a big problem in developing a video upload function in my iPhone-App.
Here is, what I have done:
First, I read the video data, the user selects, and store it in "MovieData" (it is NSData). I checked it and the NSData-object really has the value data of the video. Then there is a post function, which makes the upload (it worked before I included the video upload).

WD enclosures don't have a good rep with Macs anyway, great drives but terrible enclosures & chipsets.
Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have many Pageouts?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Video degraded when uploaded to Facebook

Since upgrading to Mavericks, which I did almost immediately after getting my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display, video is badly degraded when uploaded to Facebook from iMovie or iphoto. It looks fine when view in iphoto or imovie, but after sharing right from either of those apps, to facebook, it loses an incredible amount of quality. Is it something in my settings? Or bandwidth from my ISP? My old little 13 macbook created great videos that looked just as good when uploaded to FB. Thanks

Ther version of Premiere Elements 13 is the version on a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7; 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB. OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2
When loading to Facebook the processing finishes - the progress meter gets to the end. The Error Message pops up at the end.
Vimeo and YouTube built in Premiere Elements feature work?

What specific error messages are you getting with the Facebook failures?

When publishing to a folder page looks awful once uploaded. Can anyone help

I've read through at least 30 pages on this forum and seem to be unable to find something to help me remedy my problem.
I made a really simple site in iWEB. When I publish to a folder and click the "visit this site now" button, everything looks perfect. However, once I upload the site, using Fetch, the site looks awful. The Arial font is replaced by something else. The "made on a mac" image disappears. The navbar is non existent, and none of my other pages display properly (when I manually enter there addresses).
I read a previous post about changing my Fetch settings so that data uploads in binary (raw) form and did that. I tried changing text-encoding in my browser to UTF-8, but that did not help either.
I've cleared the folder on my home computer a number of times and tried republishing and re-uploading and that does not help. I've tried viewing the page in Safari, Mozilla, and Explorer, and it looks terrible in all 3. The site is:

You have changed the permissions (or they are incorrect) on your home_files directory. I get a forbidden message when trying to access that directory. The sylesheet (css) and other files there dictate how the home page is diplayed. Make sure that all the permissions on the directories for your site are set correctly.

HD video from iMovie looks awful when converted in iDVD

Shot some 16:9 HD video and made a project in iMovie, then "shared" it to iDVD to create a standard-definition DVD.
Unfortunately, the resulting DVD looks awful - far worse than a commercial standard-def DVD. The image is very pixelated in a manner that seems worse than standard-def resolution limitations. I processed it using the iDVD "professional" encoding.
Why does this look so bad, and by "bad" I mean worse than other standard-def DVDs? Is there a way to optimize the stepping down from HD between iMovie and iDVD?

There are some observations to this
• I do not use - Share to iDVD - in any version of iMovie
• iM'08 or 09 or 11 - I Share to Media Browser - and in iDVD get the movie from here - result is better
BUT - iM'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to use if You want a Good DVD
• iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version are ! They keep all lines that builds up the picture - the new ones
discard every second line resulting in a 50% loss of sharpness
Especially if recorded im SD-video format on miniDV tape (interlaced) then choise of video editing application is very important.

You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

Why can't I upload a video to my facebook?

Are you using the facebook app? I had problems with mine loading all the time.. so, I usually use SAFARI now.
Perhaps try ""emailing"" the picture to your facebook wall.. it works so easily and I email my pics to my youtube account and can't believe how quick it's all uploaded... hope this helps :-)

Sync issues when video project is uploaded to Facebook, but fine elsewhere

I have posted multiple video clips to Facebook without any issues. I've just finished two large projects, one is 5 minutes, the other is 7. Both are uploaded to my MobileMe gallery and play fine. I can play the finalized movies (m4v files) in iTunes and no issues there either. However, when I upload the mv4 file to Facebook, the audio and video get out of sync. The movie starts playing fine, and then there will be little pops and crackles every so often, and it will be noticeably out of sync about 40 seconds in. (I don't get these same crackles when I play the movie from MobileMe gallery). If I click ahead in the progress bar below, it syncs back up again, only to go out of sync again the longer it plays. The audio gets progressively more and more ahead of the video the longer I let it play. I've tried both exporting the movie as the m4v file and uploading it to FB, and also trying the feature that lets me upload directly to my FB account from iMovie. Same problem each time. I tried both the Medium and Large sized files too. Any help would be much appreciated.

It sounds like it may have to do with the resolution of the video that you produced in iMovie. Check the resolution of the video and see if they have any requirements for video clip resolution on Facebook and youtube.
I have uploaded video from iMovie to both in the past and they worked... so it might be the settings you have for the iMovie file.

No, but you can save a photo on FaceBook.
Try downloading/saving the video from FaceBook on your computer. If successful, after doing so you can transfer the video to your iPhone along with any photos on your computer or alone. They transfer won't be in the Camera Roll, it will be in your iPhone's Photo Library.

What kind of media files are you looking to upload onto facebook?
You could try log into the Facebook website on your device browser and log into your Facebook and view the original website not the mobile version, from there try to upload your media.
If it does not work and you are still looking to upload your videos to Facebook I suggest downloading Nokia PC Suite and transferring your videos to your PC and uploading it via your PC web browser.

When I tried to look for the said file, it is not inside the Internet Plug-Ins folder.

Still can't get good, crisp, video upload and export

I have read the HD express manual, read the articles by Ken Stone and my video uploads are still not that crisp. When I export the MOV to my desktop it looks perfect, every detail. My original video is crytsal clear, beautiful, but when I upload it to "My Space" it looks a bit fuzzy or flat. Now I know what you're going to say, "it's MY SPACE, but you know what, it's not. There are plenty of very clear and crisp videos from musicians and music videos on MY SPACE that are clear as day and crisp - so I don't agree it's MY SPACE. My Space allows for .MOV/Quicktime uploads - 100MB. I tried H.264, still looks flat and washed out. I tried Sorenson, still looks flat. What's confusing me is the frame rate and key frame rate I should set it at for a simple 320 x 240 upload and all the other detailed settings that are optional. What are my best option, step by step. I have exhuasted myself with this - up until 2 a.m. for 4 days. Please help. I have tried so many options. Thank you for your time. Sheila

What is the source of the original video (original capture from DV camera, Quicktime video, rip from DVD ...)? What settings are you using when you export to your Desktop as a MOV? When you say it's crystal clear, what are you watching it on? Is the MOV file what you are uploading to MySpace, or are you doing a different export for uploading; if so, what settings are you using for that export?
What versions of FCE and QT do you have installed on your Mac? And what are the model & specs of your Mac?
