Videos won't play in Safari

Running Safari 5.0.2 on Mac OS 10.5.8 (Mac G5 quad) just installed Flash Player Plugin 10.1 r82. can't view streaming video in Safari -- "an error occurred, please try later" is the typical warning. (same result in current Firefox) I also installed Flash Player (app) yesterday and was able to view videos in Safari -but can't today. I don't see any help notes addressing Flash Plugin for Safari/Mac Browsers. (prior to installing the plugin today, I also ran the Flash un-installer) I know Apple won't be any help on this. Any suggestions? Thanks

If that doesn't help, UNinstall the old Flash plugin first, then reinstall new.

  • HTML5 Video won't play in Safari, when frameset used

    I'm the Product Manager for a company who has a product that revolves around video. We've noticed that while we can get the HTML5 video capability in Safari on the iPad working fine in a test harness, as soon as we place that harness in the simplest of framesets (with the video area clearly visible), the video's "play" command no longer works. Oddly enough, the video object's properties can be read/written, but it appears that the "play" function itself does not work (and presumably the pause and load functions). The frustrating thing is that the video does appear to be loading - if you change currentTime to a different position, you can see the video frame at that position. The media just won't play.

    ...also, when I use the video's tags "controls" (shows player controls within the embed), Play/Pause DOES work. So, it appears to be a bug with the scripting layer.

  • Non-flash youtube videos won't play on safari

    Using the desktop version of youtube on safari - not the app.
    The page loads, the screen is blank with the "Play" arrow button in the middle but then the video won't start/load/play. If I navigate away from the page, it will briefly show the first frame and then it disappears again. These are videos that were working absolutely fine up to last night with iOS 5. I have since done hard reset and installed iOS 5.0.1 but no luck. Any ideas what might be happening?
    Thanks in advance

    Using the desktop version of youtube on safari - not the app.
    Swipe left on your Home screen then type:  Youtube    in the search field.
    The app looks like this >  It comes pre installed on the iPad so there's no way to delete it.

  • Web site hosted video won't play in Safari on MAC.

    I have a web application that runs in a web browser. One of its features is the ability to embed a video clip in a web page hosted on this application.
    If I create a web page using the HTML5 <video> tag and an H.264 encoded MP4 file video clip, I can browse to this page from my web server and see the video. However, if I launch this same HTML page within my application (window.open(URL, _blank, ...)) it displays the page but refuses to play the video. This happens in Safari 5.1 on my Mac OS10.7 and on all browser tested on my iPad2 (Safari, Mecury, and Dolphin). However, the same HTML code plays fine through my application on all browsers on Windows (including Safari for Windows) and all other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, and Opera) on the Mac. It also plays through the default Android browser and the Opera Mobile browser on my Android tablet.
    Here is a sample of the HTML that I am using to play this video...
    <video height="713" width="950" autoplay="autoplay" controls="controls" poster="WhiteScreen.png">
         <source src="tradeintradeup.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
         <source src="tradeintradeup.webm" type="video/webm" />
         <source src="tradeintradeup.ogg" type="video/ogg" />
         <div id-noupdate>
              <p>Video format not supported by this browser</p>
         </div>
    </video>
    When the video does not play, I do NOT get the text in the div, I see an area where the video should be (so the browser is recognizing the <video> tag) but the video never loads or plays.
    What am I missing?
    Thank you for your assistance.

    Michael,
    Thank you for your response.
    I am aware of the autoplay restriction on iOS devices. What I see in my iPad(2) is an empty area of the window with no control to touch/click to start the video playing.
    In Safari on my Mac, I do see the control bar with the rewind/replay and the play buttons; however, the word "Loading..." is displayed forever in the bar. Again, the browser recognizes the video tag and creates the control to play the clip, but the video never actually starts playing. It appears that it hangs trying to download/stream the content.
    I have other pages that embed audio clips using the HTML5 <audio> tag. These play fine, as expected, with Safari on my Mac and on my iPad. Yes, I have to manually start the audio on the iPad, but it runs fine once started and autoplays on the Mac. Of course, these audio files are much smaller than the video files that will not play.
    I have looked at the codec used for the video to see if it might not be compatible with the Mac Safari browser, but the video plays directly from my web site. It only fails to play when launched in a pop-up window by my web application. I realize that this points to a problem in my application. I am trying to get some ideas about where to look in my application for the problem.
    Thanks again for your time and your input.

  • Flash Video Won't Play in Safari

    Every-time I visit the Carolina Panther's website, I have noticed that the multimedia video doesn't play. Also, I have the most recent Flash Player version. What gives?

    It doesn't play for me either. Also, the site makes my processor jump considerably in temperature. - all signs of poor coding on the site. When I tried the site on Camino, a prompt appeared for a download of Windows Media Player 11. So, in addition to poor coding, the page is oriented to Windows PC platform.
    Since you have an Intel machine, if you have installed Windows XP or Vista on your machine, you'll be able to play the video content there.

  • Embedded videos won't play in Safari on iPhone 5 iOS 8.02

    All of a sudden I can't play any embedded YouTube videos in safari from my iPhone 5. I think the issue started when I upgraded to iOS 8.02.
    I can see the screenshot of the video, and the red and white play button in safari, but it isn't clickable. I can click on the word youtube in the upper right hand corner of the picture and it will launch the YouTube app and then the video will play from the YouTube app, but never from safari anymore.
    I've tried closing the safari app, clearing safari history, resetting the iphone, downloaded Google chrome, and even tried to use my RSS reader to view the webpage. They all do the same thing, and none will let me click the play button to watch the embedded video.
    Anyone have any ideas?  This is driving me crazy!  Thanks!

    After some messing around, I found out that I can't press the red/white play button on the middle of the picture. For some reason, that isn't clickable anymore. Instead, if I press anywhere on the picture preview except for the red/white play button, then the video will play fine.
    I Don't remember having to do that before, but at least I can watch embedded videos again.

  • Videos won't play in safari on ipad

    How do I fix this problem?
    Anyone else have this issue?

    This issue is with non Flash movies.
    These are movies that used to play fine on my iPad. Now they dont play.
    They remain in paused mode.
    These are quicktime movies encoded in h264.
    Like what you find on Lynda.com.
    They should play back fine on an iPad.
    They just arent working anymore.
    My software is up to date on the iPad.
    Im at a loss here.
    I dont know how to fix this.
    Is it a preference Im not seeing somewhere?

  • Embedded audio file won't play in Safari

    I'm trying to plan an embedded audio file in safari, but it just never loads. Similar files on the same page are marked 'Flash 9 is required to listen to audio' - I have listened to these files before without any problems.
    I have Flash 11.5 installed, have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Flash and all the fixes for when YouTube videos won't play in Safari but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

    You will really need to upload it if you want someone to help you troubleshoot the problem.  It could be any number of reasons.
    If and when you do upload, make sure that you upload the supporting folder that is created when you create a swf on a page.

  • Videos won't play in any browser

    Just recently, videos won't play in any browser...Safari, Firefox. etc. It seems to happen with .wmv files. I reinstalled media player, but still have the problem.
    I get this message.
    "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again"

    First, check that Windows Media Player is set as the correct plug in - in Safari, go to help/installed plug ins. There should be a section marked 'Windows Media Player' showing 'application/x-mplayer2' and listing wmv files (amongst others).
    Sometimes these arrors are caused by DNS failures. Ensure your system is fully up to date, and enter your ISP's DNS server IP addresses (usually two of them, sometimes three) in the 'DNS servers' box on the TCP page of the Network preference pane.
    The DNS server IPs are usually supplied with the ISP's initial set up documentation, or located on the ISP's help page.
    The reason it could be a problem is that in many iterations of MacOS X, the system is extremely sensitive to how quickly a DNS search responds. DNS is the process whereby a user-provided URL is converted into the correct IP address for internet lookup, so if the video source is held on a different server and the DNS process doesn't return a valid IP address in time, you would then get an error of the sort you describe.

  • You tube app videos won't play no more just a spinning wheel.

    You tube app videos won't play no more just a spinning wheel. I've deleted history and data stuff and tried rebooting but still the same. Please help.

    Are you using the YouTube app or Safari?
    Could be the videos are Flash based, which Safari can't display.
    Adobe has not made a version of Flash for the iPad.

  • Videos won't play on CBS, Fox, or NBC

    Hello!
    For the last 48 hours I've been trying to watch Gotham on Fox.com from my iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2010)...no good.  I was just watching it earlier this week, and for some reason when I try now it only has a black window (no error message).  Videos won't play for me on NBC.com, Fox.com, or CBS.com on neither Chrome nor Safari nor Firefox.  Randomly, ABC.com DOES work across all fronts.
    Here is what I've tried:
    -Restarting computer
    -Refreshing constantly
    -Reinstalling Chrome / Firefox
    -Making sure Flash was updated
    -Clearing all website data / caches / extensions
    I even right clicked on the blank Fox video page, selected "Global Settings," and cleared all Local Storage Settings for Flash.  NOTHING!  I'm even starting to wonder if my roommate sabotaged my computer...that's how desperate I am on ideas.
    Best,
    Jalyssa

    Your videos play in iPhoto and they don't as well?
    There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
    Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Videos won't play in powerpoint when connected to projector

    I've tried to find a solution for my problem online but haven't come across anyone with the same issue. I often work with powerpoint presentations with many videos in it. The videos play just fine on my laptop and also when hooked up to an external monitor, which I use when at work, both in slideshow mode and when previewing my animations. However, when I hook up my mac onto a projector the videos won't play - not on my laptop screen nor on the projected screen. I've tried rearranging the displays by draggin the menu bar to either display and also switched from mirror screens to presenter's view within powerpoint but nothing helped solve the issue. The only solution I found is to play the presentation on my windows partition - which is not really what I'm planning to do for long term...
    I'm using Powerpoint 2011 for mac and this problem has occurred using multiple projectors.
    Any help on how to solve this issue is highly appreciated!

    I had the same problem today in front of an audience with 300 people (MacbookPro OSX 10.10, Thunderbolt-VGA adapter, PPT 14.4.6).
    Here what I figured out so far:
    1. It happens when you have PPT open and connect to beamer afterwards
    2. You can resolve it (in my case) by quitting PPT and launching it WHEN connected to beamer
    3. Yet, make sure Mac does not go into sleep mode or you get a lock-screen in the waiting time. if you do so, you get back to square 1. quit PPT again 2. restart it.
    4. Also.... in one case I had to hit the volume control once to get the sound back even though movie was playing
    So in short: Connect to beamer first, then launch PPT
    I know it is only a symptom fix but it worked for me

  • MailOnline videos won't play in Firefox unless in safe mode although they're fine in Explorer.

    It's for my mum, honest. Firefox 25, java and flash uptodate but the Mail Online videos won't play unless I start Firefox in safemode. A large white rectangle appears but nothing else.

    You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
    Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
    *Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
    Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
    If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
    Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)
