VideoSecu Video Converter with Current Model MacBook Pro?

I got this converter that I want to use to connect my current model 15" i5 MacBook Pro to my TV:
http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Presentation-Converter-Laptop-1L7/dp/B000X3FAJU/ ref=sr150?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227593643&sr=1-50
I have a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter. I have that plugged into the converter. The converter is USB powered. I am using a standard RCA video cable to connect to the video input of the TV. Once connected, I should be able to use my display preference panel, click "detect displays", and I should be up and running.
I have flipped the jumpers on this thing to every possible configuration and I can't, for the life of me get the video to display on my TV. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing, here?
I should be a simple "plug and play" thing, but I'm getting nothing but frustrated. Can someone help?
Thanks.

Problem solved.
My MacBook wasn't detecting the TV when I plugged the adapter and the converter into it. However, if the devices were plugged in and I restarted my computer, THEN the second display would be detected on start-up, and I'd be up and running. This solved part of my problem but, as you can probably guess, I wasn't completely satisfied. It still made no sense that I should have to restart my computer every time I want to connect it to my TV.
I talked to, both, VideoSecu and Apple and, ultimately, the problem lie not with the converter, but with the Mini Displayport-to-VGA adapter I was using. I bought a 3rd party (Dynex) adapter instead of the Apple one as it cost less and there didn't appear to be any functional difference between the two. Evidently, I was wrong in this assumption. If I used an Apple adapter, my computer would, immediately, detect the connected display without the need for a restart.
I have returned the Dynex adapter.

  • Choppy video playback with airplay from Macbook Pro

I experience very choppy video using airplay towards my Airplay unit (3rd gen).
I am using a Macbook Pro (15" retina, late 2013 version) with these specifications:
    - Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz.
    - 16 GB ram.
    - 768 GB flash/SSD.
...and so on. I have the Mavericks OS installed (10.9.1).
When I duplicate or extend the screen of the computer to my Apple TV it is chopping EXTREMELY much. I am not talking a little bit - but it is not even watchable. I thought that it could be the router itself as the connection is (probably, correct me if I am wrong anyone) is directed from the computer - to the router - and then to the Apple TV, which could make the router like a filter in the process. And if something would prevent the signal from reaching the Apple TV with "full speed" it could prevent the actuall image.
However, when I am using the iPhone 4S and streaming video (both video found in my phone as well as streamed TV from apps such as Magine.com) the image flows completely flawless. There are not even a touch of lagging. It flows perfect, just as watching a movie directly on the TV.
The networking hardware in the phone is slower than in the Macbook Pro retina (late 2013) - both for sending and recieving data. But still... my iPhone works better than the Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Even though that the processing, memory, graphic and networking power is probably a thousand times faster in the computer... it still performs really bad.
I have followed some discussion threads here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22051725#22051725 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5734226?tstart=0 just as a couple of examples). I have accessed my router (Netgear Gigabit EVG 2000) and increased the Wireless mode to "up to 270 Mbps. I have also followed the previously linked threads and disabled the WMM (in the QoS-section). I felt that this made a little bit of a difference...
...when I am mirroring the screen and scale down the resolution to match the AirPlay screen (full-HD, 1920 x 1080) it works okay, but still chops quite a bit almost all the time. But if I extend the screen and want to watch TV at the same time as I am doing something else on the computer - then it chops so that it is not even possible to watch.
This have to be something either with the Mavericks OS or with my network settings - can anyone help me...? It would mean A LOT!

Curious why you think it would be my network when the same network is being used by the iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5 and they both stream without issue. As far as the other items you mentioned, all devices are up-to-date with the latest firmware/software and the latest MacBooks do not have ethernet ports. Speedtests that I have conducted also indicate that bandwidth is not the issue as the results show that the speeds received from the router are quite impressive.

  • Modem for 2011 model Macbook Pro

I have a new current model Macbook Pro (10.6.7) and an Apple brand USB modem, tiny little thing, like a pack of gum with a short USB cable on one end and a phone jack in the other. When I plug the modem in, I get a message saying it can't be used with this computer. There's nothing wrong with it, it works fine on my old Macbook Pro.
So, is there any way to make it work with my new Macbook Pro? If not, does some other brand/model modem work? Preferably tiny like Apple's, since I use it for travel. (Broadband at home of course.)

Nope. It just doesn't work with the new models. However, there are any number of third-party USB modems that look just like it. You will find them using Google.

  • I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.

I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.  This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV?  There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection.  Double check all cables.  If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

I can't watch YouTube videos on my brand new MacBook Pro with Lion. It says I need to download Adobe Flash Player but that won't install. Help!

The same thing happens to me, Safari asks me to update the Adobe FlasPlayer, I download, start the installation process, ask me my username and password in order to install, then see a window where I choose if I want to always install the updates , or ask first, or not inslate updates, and at this point it is not progress, I can not cancel the process, I turn off and turn on my machine.
    What can I do ..??

  • Does the magsafe 2 converter work with with the 13in MacBook Pro(2012)?

i was just wondering if the MagSafe 2 Converter worked with the 13" MacBook Pro(2012)

The spec's page only say "MagSafe power port" - doesn't specify if it's the original or the newer '2'. The Retina spec's a MagSafe 2...
I guess you'll just have to wait until someone with a 2012 non-Retina MBP comes along...

  • Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X

Does anyone have any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X for Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 shooting in 1080 P 60 ( mts file extension)

Don't use these generic offbrand converters to get footage into FCP X. they re-encode your video and cause loss of quality. If FCP X cannot import your video then use a utility that simply re-wraps it into a quicktime file with no transcoding or loss. I prefer Clipwrap which works great and is updated frequently but there are free alternatives like Media Converter or Rewrap.
But version 10.04 of FCP X should import it directly from camera as long as the folder structure is complete and you are not trying to merely import it from single mts files.

  • Current sold macbook pro's- is the GPU fixed?

    Hi,
as you all know there is this pesky problem with the nvidia GPU in the Macbook Pro (vertical lines, detected as X3100 and then dying). Does anyone know if the currently sold Macbook Pros's from recent inventory still have that problem? Is it fixed or can I expect that the problem is still sitting in the machine when I go out and buy a brand new one?
    Best,
    Hendrk
    Message was edited by: fancontrol

I wouldn't say that the problem has been "fixed" because like many others seem to believe, the issue may only affect a smaller portion of users. It may not exist in the newer models sold today, but you never know.
I am using a Santa Rosa MacBook Pro (the one with the 2.4Ghz CPU and a 256MB NVIDIA 8600 GT graphics card), and I have been using it since January when my defective MacBook was replaced. No problems. I have never seen a graphics card problem on my MacBook or anyone else's for that matter. Performance is great, and the newer models are undoubtedly better than that.
Also, I've been running dual displays for several days now, and performance is exactly the same with or without my extra monitor. Extended Desktop is such a great feature to have; I can run Safari full-screen on my external monitor, while running iTunes and Final Cut Express on the MacBook's screen when I am editing video. Of course my external monitor is an old display with the 4:3 aspect ratio... My point is, I have been using a few graphics-related tasks repeatedly, over and over again, and not once has my NVIDIA card quit or complained. You should not expect a new MacBook to have any problems whatsoever. If you do have a problem, take it to the Apple Store. Buy AppleCare when you order it.
I would recommend waiting for September though. Apple has been known to have media events during this time in order to prepare for the back-to-school and holiday seasons. New MacBooks may pop up alongside new iPods. Who knows? Apple may use an ATI card this time around, unless they switch to a different NVIDIA GPU. Good luck.

  • Any Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio for macbook pro mid 2009

connecting MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to Hisense TV with audio?!?!!?
    hello everyone.
if anyone is familar with successfully getting the older macbook pros that dont support audio out to stream and preform digital audio on a TV or has any helpful information that will get me familiar with trying to successfully stream audio and visual. and can PLEASE HELP ME in any way to understand what they know and teach me how to solve my problem id really appreciate it.
i want to connect my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to my Hisense LED LCD TV, ModelNumber:40H3E  and getting digital audio sound from my TV as well as video, but have no clue on how or where to even start to successfully pairing the two and getting sound.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) this MacBook model doesnt support an HDMI port. My MacBooks model has the Mini Displayport which supports video out but does not support audio out. Can someone help me by telling me exactly which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio will support my model MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and exactly what HDMI wire do i need to buy that will successfully preform digital audio and sadisfying quality visual through TV?
i have NO expierence with the proccess have NO knowledge about any of this or these Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters with audio. i have no idea what kind of adapter and HDMI cord to buy that will give me sound from my tv for my type of macbook. '
im not familar AT ALL with any of this so i hope me giving you my MacBook Pros make and model and my TV's model number will be enough information for someone to help me.
just please give me anything you can on this topic
    thank you so much,

With a 2009 MacBook Pro, you need to use two connections to your TV: one for video and another one for audio.  The miniDisplayPort on the 2009 models does not support audio, so you need a separate audio cable:
miniDisplayPort adapter for video - I use the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI adapter + a DVI-HDMI cable like this one
audio cable for audio - use a 3.5mm male stereo-to-2xRCA male cable like this one
Connect the miniDisplayport adapter + DVI/HDMI cable to your MacBook Pro's miniDisplayPort output and the HDMI input on your TV
Connect the audio cable to your MacBook Pro's audio out and your TV's audio in
The only potential gotcha is if your Hisense TV requires audio via the HDMI cable when you use an HDMI cable.  The H3e user manual is unclear about this.

  • AppleTV 2 doesn't display or play video in iTunes library on MacBook Pro i7

please help, apple tv doesn't play or display movies on the computer.
brand new appleTV 2nd gen, it plays itunes store videos, netflix and youtube videos. network works great. latest software updated. home sharing active. computer autorized. it shows the computer in the menu but can't browse the library. the computer can play through the tv speakers but doesn't show the library. airplay active. also when it try to play movies from the computer it displays an error message. the movies are converted for ipad and apple tv.
movies are not from apple store.
the computer has the latest software and it works properly.
it is connected to the same network as the apple tv.
    what should I do?
    Message was edited by: unaquestionediali

I am having the same problem since upgrading my desktop workstation to Lion. The AppleTV 2 can see my computer when iTunes is running, but when I navigate to the library the AppleTV 2 tells me that there are no movies (or music or pictures) in the library. I have a mix of videos purchased through the iTunes store, HandBrake conversions, and home videos converted with HandBrake. I can start a movie or other video in iTunes and push it to the AppleTV 2, but I can't parse the library from the AppleTV 2.
The odd thing is: I can see the library on my Mac Pro just fine from my MacBook Pro's iTunes.

  • Cant install OS X 10.5.2 says it isn't compatable with my 2007 macbook pro any suggestions?

I have an early 2007 model macbook pro and was finally able to upgrade to leopard.  I cleaned out my hard drive so I had 15GB free space checked the processor and the memory and I have all of the requirements to install it.  It still says can not be installed on this machine.  I currently have OS X 10.4.11 installed.

That DVD originally shipped with a Mac and can't be used to install on another Mac model. If you don't have a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD lying around(these are all 10.5, 10.5.1, 10.5.4, or 10.5.6), buy Mac OS X 10.6 on DVD.

  • Failed Logic Board with April 2010 MacBook Pro?

I went to the Genius Bar today to ask about repeated Kernel Errors with my 2010 MacBook Pro. The person who helped me said that the logic board was failing because of the graphics card and that it would cost $310 to repair.
My Mac is an A1286 model with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB Graphics.
Reading about Macs with NVIDIA graphics I immidately found that there were issues with the generation prior to my Mac, 2007-2008 Macs with NVIDIA 8600M GT.
So what I want to know is have any other Mac users had issues with their 2010 Macs and their graphics cards? My Mac has always run hot (too hot to actually use as a laptop because it turns my legs red!) and I figured it was just the nature of the machine. I now have one USB drive that is slowly failing (doesn't like my mouse). I haven't had any weird graphics issues, just the random restarts and a freeze now and then.

My March 2010 15" Macbook Pro's logic board just failed.  Here's my report:

  • I am having a problem with my 2009 Macbook Pro

    Hello Everyone,
I am having a problem with my 2009 Macbook Pro .  A few weeks ago I plugged it into the charger after running it down to reserve battery power. It appeared to be charging, but then all of a sudden my clock and calender reset to year 2000 and then my computer blacked out and went dead. I tried to boot it up but nothing happened (literally nothing).   I have tried 3 different chargers on it, but all I get is a faint green light and even after hours it still won't boot up.   I have tried replacing the battery, but still nothing happens.
Any Ideas?  I am pretty desperate to get my computer back up and running before school finals.

You may have to see if an authorized Apple service specialist can check over
the charging system (magsafe dc-in board, power adapter, and MacBook/Pro)
and test or run a diagnostic on it, to be sure there is no damage or failed parts.
When you attached the adapter to charge the computer, after it said it was going
to reserve power, did you shut down open applications and stop using the MB/Pro?
That would've been the thing to do, since the margin of run-time near the bottom
of the power cycle can be wrong by the gauge estimate, it can just quit.
While I have not researched your year/model/series in detail, I do know some
models of Apple portable computers have a small battery or capacitor on the
logic board, separate from the main power battery; it may need replacement.
A service provider w/ Apple training & parts would be a likely resource to fix it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • New problem with display on Macbook Pro retina (Samsung panel)

    Hello All,
I am a very new people on your forum but a few weeks ago i bought a new macbook pro retina with samsung panel.
I haven't ghosting effect on my macbook but i have a new and really bad problem.
I try to found a some information on Russians forums but nobody can help me with it.
I can see an artifacts in the form of flashing pixels on all display.
It occurs in 20-30 minutes after the start of work.
Today i try to test it on game Dirt 2 and i can see defects after 2 minutes after start. So i think it can be reason with Geforce 650 but when i back to desktop and use HD 4000 i still see a problem.
This is best seen on a black screen with high backlight.
When i try to connect TV via HDMI i can't see any problem in my TV.
So i really don't know what could be the reason.
I attached the video with issue to video hosting
    http://vimple.ru/579f880e8b7045e09f8fc5bc097c5e2b
Also i have a many software problem like Crashing safari and iTunes. It can be a few times per day.
I really disappointed with my new Macbook.
I haven't any problem with old 2009 Macbook pro with Snow Leopard but Mountain Lion is not working well.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD
