Vids with 264 codec created on macs don't play video

I haven't been able to view half the quicktime movies on web sites because they were created on the mac with Quicktime pro or Final cut pro with h264. My movies I have exported from Quicktime pro in my mac don't show video on my pc. I have heard some bullshhh answers in the forum. There is a bug with new versions of Quicktime for Windows. Why are there not fixes, or a statement about it from apple support?

You have trouble with H.264 video codecs on a Windows OS (with QuickTime 7 installed)?
Open the troublesome files in QuickTime Player and open the Movie Inspector window. Report what is says about your files.

Ipod u2 5.5 Don't play videos.

Mi ipod don't play videos. I can hear the sound but the video don't see. but when i connect the ipod to the computer, i can see the video in itunes without problems.
Looks like the ipod recognized the video like a song. i see the alblum artwork and the info of the song, and also i hear the audio, but don't reproduce the video.
The video was downloaded in iTunes!

ARe you going to Videos -> Movies/Music Videos/Whatever to play it, or are you browsing under Music -> Artists/Albums/Etc? If you are browsing under Videos, check to make sure that TV Out is off by going to Videos -> Video Settings. If it is on, turn it off.

Firefox don't play video from diferent sites like hulu, cnet, cbs, abc, etc. Only play the advertising. WHY?

I try this why chrome and IE and work perfect, but whit Firefox only play the advertising.
I try restore point at my computer. Don't work.

I have to correct something. With type="video/quicktime", Safari 7.0.1 does play the QuickTime VR Panorama, so it's effective for both QuickTime videos and panoramas. But, what I wrote about Firefox and Chrome hasn't changed.
I did get the QuickTIme with a "?" symbol when I tried to play it with Safari 7.0.1, before submitting the question; but maybe that was a side effect of an earlier attempt.

Satellite L850D WMP and VLC player don't play video but audio

Hi,
I have an L850D running win 7 and suddenly windows media player, VLC does not play video file but plays the audio file.
When using youtube video plays.
Does anyone have any ideas??

What files are exactly affected?
Did the video files work properly in the past?
If not then I think you have got this issue because of missing codec.
If the files worked properly in the past, then the issue may occur because you have installed or removed some codec from the system.
Maybe you should check if you can go back to restore point where they all worked fine.

Windows 8 - Firefox 17.x and 18 don't play videos from CNET website

It played CNET videos before very good in last few months. And now Firefox 17.x don't play any videos from CNET. I updated FF to 18 version and it has same problem.

Quicktime created on MAC won't play on PC

Help...I am just trying to make a simple slide show. I used iPhoto, created slide show then exported to Quicktime. I then saved on a flash drive, took it to work and imported into a PowerPoint. Getting the following message...
Quicktime and a MPEG 4 Video decompressor are need to see...
When I created the powerpoint on my Mac, it played no problem. I tried going into FCE and saving to quicktime and also iMovie..still no luck.
I prefer to use the iPhoto slideshow option because I am just looking to play a continuous picture loop. I don't want to spend time creating movie in FCE or iMovie.

The file is just over 9 Gigs. It is 25 minutes long. I made a mistake in my earlier post; it does not have any audio. It is in DVCPro 50 NTSC format and it works fine on my Mac but when putting it on a PC, I just get a white screen. It seems to play the file but because there isn't any audio, I can't be sure. When I press play on Quicktime PC, it starts playing without any error message at all. I get movie info and it gives me the same info that I get in my Mac: 720x480, DVCPro 50 NTSC 29.97 frame rate. I want to do some colour correction on my PC before I transfer it to tape so I don't want to use any compression other than DVCPro 50.

Ref Movie created on Mac won't play on Windows machine

I created a Ref Movie on a Mac. Copied Ref Movie and full movie to a WinPC. Got -2048 error. Could view full movie. Also, Ref Movie file size was reported as 0k on WinPC.
Used WinPC to access and run both movies from the Mac. Same problems.
Created Ref Movie on WinPC, copied both to Mac. Mac played the both just fine. However, Mac reported file size of the Ref Movie as 0K.
Can I created Ref Movies on a Mac that can be used on a WinPC (I realize full movie has to also be available on WinPC)?

Turns out the problem is file system related. When OSX copies a file to a Win machine, it also creates a hidden file with additional information. It my case, OSX is creating the following two files on my WinPC:
MyRefMovie.mov
._MyRefMovie.mov (a hidden file on a Windows machine)
The application I use to create the ref movie seems to generate my problem, because it is putting the ref movie data into the hidden file, not the unhidden file. Apple's MakeRefMovie utility puts the information into the unhidden file. The behavior of creating hidden files is part of OSX (though there is a utility called BlueHarvest that can control it), but what goes into the files seems to be an application level issue. Hope this helps others who have the problem.

MP3s made on Mac don't play in car...

I recently bought a new car (a UK Toyota Auris - might be relevent), which has a USB port built-in for playing music from a USB stick.
"Great", I thought. I'd recently just converted all of my CD albums on my business Mac Pro. "Happy days."
However, when I tried to play any of this music, the car's player would either recognise the album, and song title, but not play the song, or, just not recognise the music at all! "No Track" was the most common response.
Sometimes an album would work! But mostly they didnt'!
I took the USB stick, and the DVD backup of all my music, and put them both into my home Windows 7 PC.
I copied the relevent tracks from the backup onto the PC, tried them using iTunes (all worked OK), then copied them onto the USB stick (which I'd re-formatted as FAT32, the format specified by the car's player).
But still the music is not reconised.
I tried ripping a couple of CD's again, this time on my home PC using iTunes.
STILL nothing worked in the car.
I even had the car's player tested, and this checked out OK!
I then resorted to trying Media Player 12 to rip a few albums. And these worked!!
I tried a few more. Still working!
Can anyone suggest to me why the iTunes ripped albums (either Mac or PC) refuse to be recognised by the car's player?
And whether there might be a work-around, so that I could use the thousands of MP3s I've already made on my Mac without having to resort to re-ripping them all again on the PC?
I really hope someone can help!

These are indeed in mp3 format? iTunes is probably set to rip to AAC by default.
I have no references for the music formats supported by your car's player. It would help to know that. Each player has its own specifications and there's no set uniformity. Frankly also keep in mind that they were probably tested with standard Windows software and nobody at the factory even looked any further.
It is just possibly that the tagging used by iTunes is not accepted by the car's player. Usually iTunes is the program that's fussy about not liking other media rippers' tags.
As a test you could try ripping using XLD or Max on a Mac and see if it is an iTunes thing.

i have big problems signing the apk for the GooglePlayStore..
I tried this from the android dev page

but i am getting this error:
jarsigner: unable to sign jar: java.util.zip.
sed size (expected 1504 but got 1513 bytes)
I created a p12 with Flash Builder and thought thats all i need but the playstore says its unsinged so how to sign it corretcly?

I use "swap a cd" which gives music samples with an "mp3 widget". Samples don't play with firefox. What can I do?

Swapacd just had a n upgrade. Before the upgrade samples played OK.

You are using an old Flash 10.0 r45 version that is probably the cause of your problem. It works for me with the current Flash 10.1 r85 version.

My mac mini crashes playing video or creating movies in imovie....Solution??

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues.

My mac won't play videos or games.

Mine were taking forever to load too and consuming 100% of cpu for minutes.
I uninstalled the perian codec I had previously installed (delete Perian from HD/Library/Quicktime) and downloaded and installed the latest version 1.0
This speeded things up. In the same folder I also had 3ivx so I deleted that as Perian should be able to take care of things.
Things are now much faster and the cpu doesn't sit at 100% for 1-2 minutes before playing the video.
If it slows down again, I might uncheck the "play avi files" option in Flip 4 Mac as Perian is pretty good at covering these whilst Flip4Mac does a good job with wmv.
Anyway, this has fixed things for me.

NEW IPOD VIDEO DON'T PLAY VIDEOS!!!!!!! it's a trap!

I just baught new Ipod VIDEO 30 GO; baught QUICKTIME PRO to transfer and read .AVI, Divx... on my IPOD.
I paid a QT PRO that doesn't read .AVI or WMP, results:
1/ White screen with bad sound or no sound
2/ Error -37 or -2048
3/ Oh miracle sometimes QT PRO reads, but with a so bad quality!!! The same AVI file being red perfectly with VLC, WindowsMP, Realplayer...
I tried all codecs upgrading... Nothing better
Well anyway I try to transfer this poor QT quality video (20 mns; 100 Mo) on my IPOD to see... 10% file in one hour, ok I let it all night: ERROR at 27%
So, M. Steve Jobs, why don't you tell us that this new IPOD is not a real video one!!!
If (by luck) anyone did a successfull transfer with an .AVI or WMP, tell everyone how you did this miracle, but my conclusion... we have been fu.... by a marketing product!

Neither the iPod nor QuickTime can read WMV files and Apple has never claimed that either product will. If you want to play WMV content on your iPod, you'll have to find a third-party product that can convert the WMV movie to a format the iPod can support (the supported formats are documented in the tech specs as well as many other places).
As to AVI, there is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. QuickTime supports some of the most basic codecs used in AVI, but an AVI movie may use many other codecs including one of the Indeo codecs or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
So there's probably absolutely nothing wrong with QuickTime nor with your iPod; you just need to learn the formats that it supports and get your movies converted to those formats.
