View Acrobat 9.0 PDF object in VB6 Form

I'm programming in Visual Basic 6 and I was able to load the Acrobat 5 pdf object into the VB form.
Now I try to find VB6 components to open Acrobat 9.0 PDF object in VB6 Form and could not find it.
What should I do?
Could somebody help me?
I’ll really appreciate it,
Ben

I forgot to tell that I have Windows XP SP3.
I added the Adobe Acrobat Browser Control type Library 1.0 (AcroPDF.dll) from Components.
But when I try to Load the PDF into the VB6 Form I received Message from Adobe:
“There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please Exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again.”
When I click OK the PDF object is not showing up in the VB6 Form and trying again not help.
If I just click the object manually outside of VB it is open without notice.
Thanks,
Ben.

    Hi Bruno ,
Could you please verify the Acrobat version you are using is the latest Acrobat DC or some older version ?
Does this happen with any particular PDF file or all the documents ?
If you haven' tried repairing your Acrobat ,please try the same and see if that helps .
For repairing Acrobat Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help> Repair Acrobat Installation .
If that does not work you could probably uninstall the software and try downloading it again and see if that fixes the issue .
Let us know how it goes .

  • Word pdf object problem

    Acrobat Pro 9.1/Word 2007/WXP
I have multiple users who are unable to open embeded PDF objects in a word document.  When they click the icon, they get "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is not installed on your computer...".  This problem didnt appear until we upgraded everyone to v9 but I cant say for sure they were embedding pdfs prior to that.
I have repaired Office 2007, reinstalled Acrobat Pro, confirmed that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\Open\command really is pointing to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "%1" and that that app does run.  The users are able to open the actual PDF files.  Other PDFs embeded on the same document work.  This is not limited to just one PDF either, there are multiple embeded PDFs that are not working.  I have also noticed that sometimes the embeded PDF will open once, then if you close it and reopen it, Word gives you the same error.  How it can work one time and then tell me the it can find AcroExch the next I dont understand.  Ive also tried to open some of these documents with Reader 9 installed on a clean test PC and they do the same thing.
I considered the possibility that the doc was somehow corrupt but inserting the PDF into a new document has the same result.  Any ideas why it would tell me AcroExch is not installed regardless of whether Acrobat Pro or Reader is actually installed and why some embeded PDFs would work and some wouldnt?  If a reinstall of both Office and Acrobat doesnt fix this and it occurs on a clean install, how do I fix it?
    Any help is appreciated.
    *** Update***
It would appear that if I open those specific PDFs in Pro, resave them, then reembed them in Word, this problem does not occur.  After inquiring further, those specific PDFs where created via a Sharpdesk scan from copier to PDF feature.  Why they can be opened with Reader/Pro directly but cant be opened as embeded PDFs in word without being resaved I dont know.

    I'm still having this problem.
I've updated to 10.1.0, I've tried unchecking the "Enable Startup" option, I've tried the advanced option one where I select Adobe 10.1.0 as my default.
I still can't embed a PDF in a word document and receive the same error as when we had Adobe 9.
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheryl

  • Acrobat Help | Display PDF in browser | Acrobat XI

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html

Even clicking on a link to a PDF file from a "pinned" site (which, according to Microsoft, isn't supposed to be able to run with add-ons) causes the PDF file to open in the browser.
I'm using IE10 on Windows 8 Pro x64. I remember reading that Microsoft integrated Adobe Flash into IE10...I think they did the same with Adobe Reader. I just found out that pinned sites in IE10 can be used to view Flash videos, so it would seem that I am correct. Does anyone else agree with me?

  • Acrobat V9.0 PDF and Reader V5.0 Compatibility

Hi - I'm having trouble with an Acrobat V9.0 PDF. The file was generated on the PC with WinXP using Acrobat V9.0 Standard Edition.
I also have access to an OS9.2 Mac which we use to run Adobe Framemaker. The Mac has Acrobat, Distiller and Reader V5.0.
Am finding that Acrobat or Reader V5.0 won't display V9.0 PDF's, coming up with a read error. I always thought that PDF was portable (Portable Document Format??).
Has the strive forward with versions now made this portabilty a thing of the past and now version dependant.
As a test we distilled a PDF using Acrobat V8.0 and this was display'd fine.
It seems to be an issue with the new realease.

Adobe neither supports nor recommends that combination. Most known problems don't relate to creating pdfs, but usually with viewing pdf files.  However, if you remove Reader 9.1 you will break Acrobat 6. I'd recommend you uninstall both and re-install 6 (unless you want to upgrade to version 9). Be aware the Acrobat 9 is the last version of Acrobat you can purchase as an upgrade from Acrobat 6. When the next version comes out you'll have to pay full fare.

  • How do I embed a pdf document into an existing pdf so that the user double clicks on the pdf object within the pdf and it opens? i've looked everywhere on various forums and tried attachments - but still not working. Thanks

I've tried various methods but to no avail. I have a pdf document and within the pdf I'd like to embed a couple pdf documents so that all the user has to do is double click on the pdf object inside the pdf and it opens in a new window. I've tried using attachments to do it and linking it...but to no avail. Anyone know how to do? I'm using Acrobat Pro Version 11. Thanks

The "embed" feature common to MS Office applications is not applicable to PDF (for the why and wherefore of PDF get comfortable and read the ISO Standard for PDF - ISO 32000-1:2008).
You can insert other PDF files' pages into any given PDF.
You can attach files of supported formats to a PDF (of course a PDF is supported).
You cannot "embed". So, nothing is broken.

  • Word 2010 Document with embedded pdf objects

Is it possible to convert a word 2010 document with embedded pdf object into a PDF without loosing the functiuonality of double clicking on the Acrobat icon and opening the (embedded) document?
    Thank you for your help.

Pretty sure that the PDF will contain exactly what you'd get if you printed the Word document. There is no promise or expectation that objects will be "live".

  • Embedded PDF object .postMessage doesn't work with Reader DC on IE

In our application, we have PDFs embedded in the browser with an object tag such as this:
    <object id="pdfObject" width="100%" height="100%" type="application/pdf" data="#{url}"></object>
There are HTML/Javascript controls on the page which communicate with the PDF via this syntax:
    document.getElementById("pdfObject").postMessage([arg])
This has been working great with Adobe Reader versions 10+.  It actually still works with Reader DC on Firefox.  However, there is a problem with Adobe Reader DC on Internet Explorer version 11.
All I can tell so far is the "postMessage" function isn't appearing.  Using IE dev tools:
    document.getElementById("pdfObject").postMessage
Object doesn't support this property or method
Any help with this would be amazing.  It is a critical part of our application here.

My application has two-way communication between browser and embedded PDF.  Basically a user clicks a button on the browser and via Javascript the embedded PDF form is submitted.  Everything was working before the update to Reader DC, but now it fails in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox (or Chrome, if the Reader plugin isn't disabled entirely by their new default disable-NPAPI plugin policy...)
I originally was troubleshooting communication from the browser to the embedded PDF, which is done according to the Javascript for Acrobat API reference (page 358?), in the browser, as follows:  document.getElementById('pdfObject').postMessage([args])
Whatever is happening, postMessage is not a valid property or method of the PDF object
Then I found this other thread:
Adobe Reader DC: hostContainer not worked on IE
I confirmed that within the embedded PDF, when setting up communication from the PDF to the browser, it is not able to register the hostContainer (again, on IE only)
I have this script on initialization within the PDF:
    <---
    this.disclosed = true;
    if (this.hostContainer) this.hostContainer.messageHandler.onMessage = onMessageFunc
    this.hostContainer.messageHandler.onDisclose = function() { return true; }; }
    ---->
    Problem is this.hostContainer is null.
The main point here is all of this was definitely working before updating to Reader DC, and is still working with DC on Firefox, but not on IE.
To complicate things further, I have now uninstalled DC and downgraded to Reader 11.0.10.32, and am having a new bug, this time hostContainer is detected and communication to and from the PDF works again, but the submitForm action is failing with "Unable to open URL to submit this form" and "External undefined: exec".  Testing the exact same version and script with Firefox works fine

  • I want pdf to open in form view not this icon..see image

I have just completed my first form with Acrobat 9
    when the link is selected
    http://www.financialcounsellors.org/HUGS Application_Form_to_FCAWA_3_pages.pdf
A small image appears (see image) that must be clicked before the form is visible. How can I get the link to open in full view as per the link below on the "Forms'link on menu bar.Re 2 page view.
PS cant send image ..just noticed there is no facility for it. Oops try this http://www.financialcounsellors.org/Hugs1.jpg

I simply clicked on your link and that is what your server told me. It may be that the folder is password protected or something similar.
Here is the error I get:
    "Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /HUGS Application_Form_to_FCAWA_3_pages.pdf on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.financialcounsellors.org Port 80"
Also, using a space in the URL does not follow proper naming (it is a feature of IE and is not standard). You should replace it with %20. Many browsers will convert it to %20 (even IE did that) that is the HEX equivalent of a space.
Basically you have loaded it someplace that we (or at least I) do not have permission to access.

  • "Link Appearance" in Acrobat 7.0 PDF generator

Under Acrobat 5.0 PDFmaker in MS Word you can set some display options for the generates PDF file. Options like showing default bookmarks panel, visible rectangles around links and make these rectangle blue/solid.
Where can i find these options in Acrobat 7.0 PDFGenerator? Under the job options in Livecycle i do not see the same options (only the bookmark panel, page layout and page number option are equal in 7.0).
Also settings for gererating bookmarks and annotations/notes are not there anymore?
What is then the best way to set for example the "Link Appearance" in Acrobat 7.0 PDF generator or can't these settings be made anymore?
I already tried thinks with epilogue.ps:
    % OPEN INFO
    [ /PageMode /UseOutlines
    /Page 1
    /View [/XYZ null null null]
    /DOCVIEW
    pdfmark
But more then these DOCVIEW settings i can't find?
I also saw that the PDFMWord.dll (having a PDFMakerCreateStructure method for combining 2 PDF's to one!?) used in 5.0 is smaller then in 7.0. This method creates my blue visible rectangles because i can see the differences in the temp PDF's that are used before and after this execution. I also can't find any macro's (PDFMaker.dot) in 7.0, so it's probably a different handling?
So, what is the best way to solve the above issue for 7.0?

    Hi Laura:
Can you elaborate a bit more on "converting some interactive/dynamic templates from Acrobat 5.0 to 7.0" and "pre-populate"?
If you were converting the template in Adobe LiveCycle Designer (comes with Acrobat Professional), then FDF import wouldn't work.
However, if you are executing the same action via Acrobat then FDF and xFDF import/export should still work.
Also, for designer based forms, you also have the option of merging the data into the PDF form using Adobe LiveCycle Forms (A server based product).
Another server based solution is to Reader Extend your PDF form to allow local import/export of data using Adobe Reader.
It really depends on what you want to do.
    So options are this:
If your form is a Designer based forms:
    - Manually Import Data (in XML) into PDF Form using Acrobat Professional
    - Manually Import Data (in XML) into PDF Form* (Reader extended PDF form) using Adobe Reader
    - Merge Data Programmatically (in XML) into PDF Form using Adobe LiveCycle Forms
If your form is an AcroForm (acrobat based form)
    - Programmatically merge FDF data into PDF Form using the FDF toolkit/Acrobat SDK
    - Manually Import Data in FDF/xFDF into PDF Form using Acrobat Professional.

  • WD(ABAP) - How to convert PDF object to XML

I know there is a way available to converting PDF object to XML in JAVA. However how to achieve this goal in ABAP?
In Web Dynpro ABAP, I can bind a context attribute to the pdfSource property of interactive form element. There also should be method to able to convert the binary content of this attribute to XML format, right? Does anyone know it?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all,
As an extension to Fred's question, is it possible to later use the generated XML data and present it in a PDF template?  It used to be possible using the FDF format, but Adobe seem to have discontinued that.
My basic requirement is to send the form data to a third party in XML format and for them to be able to view it in human-readable format, preferably using a PDF as a template.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks,

  • View and Navigate through PDF´s on a DB2 SQL Query

    Hello,
We need to create a windows forms application in .Net to view and navigate through pdf´s that are located on a DB2 Express SQL database using the Acrobat SDK or PDF Library.
The idea would be to query the SQL table and the result we should be able to view and navigate through by using the viewer procedures from the SDK without having to send the PDF files to a temporary folder on the hard drive.
So for example, if the query returned 20 pdf´s, we should be able to navigate and view these pdf´s on a windows form connecting directly to the query via streams or a data source.
We assume that what we need is some sort of procedure to connect the viewer to the query through a data source.
Please help us to research about this and determine if this is possible.
    Thanks.

Hello lrosenth and thanks for your reply.
Our goal is to develop a Windows Form in .Net where we could view the pdf without launching Acrobat.
I guess you mean that we should develop a plugin in C/C++ for Acrobat, but that is not what we intend.
Is there a way to develop a function in .Net that will allow a Windows Form to read a stream with a pdf using Adobe ´s SDK or PDF´s library?
If so, would you be so kind as to point us to some reading material?

  • Tool to view CIP4 metadata in PDF

    Dear All,
Is there any tool available that can show the CIP4 metadata written to a PDF document.
Using the PDFVT InDesign sample plug-in I had written the metadata to a PDF file. I had followed the instructions given in the InDesign CHM help file to create the PDF with CIP4 metadata.
I had opened the PDF in Acrobat Professional 9, but did not find the metadata.
Is there any tool to view the metadata?

I did a Google search and found this thread from about a year ago:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/836604#3606384
It looks like there is no support within InDesign (and probably Acrobat) beyond supporting PDF/VT files. Presumably you got the plug-in you're referring to from some third party company. You would need to contact them about metadata they might have added to the PDF file.
