View Album Art When Playing or When Clicking on a Song

In the past, with previous versions of iTunes, it was possible to simply click on a song and the album art for that song would appear in the lower left corner of the iTunes window. There was an option to have the album art showing either for the song that was currently playing, or for the song that was currently clicked on. I can't seem to find this feature/option anywhere. Is it no longer possible? It would be nice to listen to music, and then click on another, and see that song's album art without having to get info on the song or switch to the coverflow mode.

Yes. I know that. When choosing "View Album Art" then you can view the album art in that little window IF the song is playing. If no song is playing, then nothing shows when you just click once on a song title. In the past, it was possible to just click once on a song title and have the artwork show in that little window.

  • Shutdown function and view album art by Genre..

Is it only me that would find a Shutdown at end of album function useful? When your lying in bed listening to music, i don't want to have to get up and switch my machine off, i want an option in iTunes that will shutdown my machine at the end of the playlist or Album.. any one else think thats useful?
What about viewing Album art via Genre? When you select a Genre, then click on the scroll album art button it shows the whole of your library!?!?! how stupid! i only want the albums in that Genre!
Grr... how many times i've sent that to Apple as a feature request i have no idea... since itunes 5 i think!! C'MON!

Please add your computer info to your profile using the My Settings link on the right side of the page.
I don't know about Windows, but on a Mac, there is a scheduled sleep/shutdown option in the Energy Saver Preference pane.. There are also quite a few free and cheap options available for download that can do it. If you're on Windows, you might look around to see what options you have.

Not sure where you're selecting the Genre, but if you're talking about the Browse option (the eye icon), when you switch to CoverFlow view, you are no longer Browsing, you are in CoverFlow.
If you switch between the different views (List, AlbumArt, CoverFlow) you'll notice that the Browse function is disabled for CoverFlow.
Of course, you could always create Smart Playlists to group your songs by Genre which would eliminate the need to rely on the Browse function.

  • Why is album art no longer viewable when viewing a playlist as a list?

I used to view my playlists as a list sorted by album by artist by year and the album art really broke things up and kept it manageable (put the album art on the leftmost column).  Not even an option?  Seriously feels like a downgrade.  Impossible to find or sort my music.  Program in general and search in particular are SUPER slow (and I'm running this on a Core i5 with 12GB of RAM.
Only real question I have besides this is how do I downgrade to the previous version?  This is unusable.

  • Album art not matching up when synced from itunes to ipad2?

Has anyone had this issue. Songs are correct but they matched up with the wrong album art?

    I think you're right KeRaMa19.
I also have my iPod set up to be managed manually. I don't want to take up hard drive space on my boot drive with 130GB of music (I back up all my music to an external HD).
I think that, unlike the prior version of iTunes, iTunes 11 doesn't access the iPod's Album Art cache… though with BBEdit (display hidden files, enable everything), I see that there is a database on my iPod under *iPodName* / iPod_Control / Artwork / ArtworkDB
Curiously, the ArtworkDB file is only 1.7MB. However, I have 4 .ithmb files that are 73.6MB, 460.2MB, 13.8MB and 66 KB (and 2 .tmp files that are 1.5MB and 16KB).
The other curious thing is that, when I use iPod Access to copy/rip songs from my iPod to my desktop, the resulting copies of the mp3's DO display the artwork in iTunes when I play them (off my desktop).
As I said, it appears that iTunes 11 no longer accesses the artwork database on the iPod. I hope they fix that, because it's an inconvenient pain in the a§§

  • Incorrect album art on iPhone even when I try to manually correct the album art in iTunes.

I recently replaced my iPhone 3GS with a new iPhone 4S. The album art is fine when viewed via my iMac in iTunes, but when I sync an album to my phone, it gives it a random album cover from my library instead of the correct one. I go to iTunes and manually re-upload the album art but when I sync again it's still incorrect. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I think I have the same problem with an iPhone 3GS running 6.0.1 and iTunes 10.7.  I didn't have this problem with 6.0.0.  My album artwork is fine in iTunes but when I transfer it to my iPhone, I get either the wrong album art or no album art.  I've tried deleting the music from the phone and re-adding it.  I rebuilt the album art cache.  I reformatted all my music as an audiobook and then back to music (don't laugh - this worked for someone!).   I loaded Media Monkey to see if there was something wrong with my mp3 files.  My mp3 files are fine and if I load my iPhone with Media Monkey, the artwork is fine.    I think the problem is that the vast majority of my music is 300 bps or better mp3 files.  Even if the artwork is imbedded in the mp3 file,  iTunes is doing something wacky with the album art and I can't figure out how to fix it.   If it weren't for all my iTunes playlists, I would just use Media Monkey to manage my music on my iPhone.

  • Album Art does not show when you Manually Manage your ipod

I currently have a 80gb ipod using itunes7 and when i add mp3s with artwork to my ipod manually the artwork does not appear. the option to display album artwork is one. if i change the settings so that my ipod syncs with itunes, and i drag the same mp3 to my library (then sync the ipod), the artwork will then appear.
the artwork does appear when i right click on the song and "get info"
i have already tried disabling then re-enabling the "display album artwork" setting. when enabled i waited for the "optimizing artwork" for quite a bit, disconnected and there was still no artwork showing.
is there a setting i am missing or is this just a bug? using the library is NOT an option for me.
    sager   Windows XP

I've had the same issue -- but you'll find when you disconnect the iPod and try to play the albums on your iPod itself that the artwork is actually there on the iPod. It just doesn't show in iTunes when you select info on particular songs on your iPod.

  • Album art from iTunes library when streaming?

Currently I have an old mac mini on its last legs and want to replace it with an Apple TV.
One thing i hate about the mini is that when it streams from my main iTunes library on my remote iMac then the album art / movie covers dont display on my plasma tv...
Do album art and movie covers show up on the tv screen when streaming from a primary iTunes library (i.e. not on the ATV hard disc)?
Or do I need to have the content stored on the ATV's local disc for that?
NB I am about to buy and want to ensure I get the right size (40gb or 160gb) but I will only stream and not take the ATV on holiday...

yes they display fine for me, and i stream everything.

  • Album art won't update when albums removed

    Hi,
I have noticed a bug on my new iPad. If I have multiple albums by the one artist on my iPad, it displays the album art of one of the albums in the thumbnail view.
However if I then remove the album from my iPad that relates to the album art being shown, the thumbnail views still stays as that artwork rather than changing to one of the other albums still on my iPad.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

In my experience, the only way for the album artwork to stay associated with the actual music file, is to use the "Update album artwork" feature in iTunes. This means, that to get the artwork from iTunes, the artist name, song title and album name MUST match exactly the information of the song in the iTunes store. If the art is not available, you can add your own. If you add your own, then run the update album art feature again so that the album art becomes part of the songs meta data. It should transfer to just about any device after that. However, some devices (Nokia comes to mind) will not display art metadata over 64K in size.

  • Album art won't transfer when dragging music to device

Hope I'm not the only one to have noticed this.
I recently updated iTunes to v10.6 from 10.0. Since then, any album art that I have manually added in the past no longer shows up on my iPhone or iPod Classic. However, album art that was retrieved via iTunes (purchases, etc) does appear. I first noticed this on my iPhone, which was running iOS 5.0.1 at the time. I updated to iOS 5.1 afterwards, thinking that it might solve the problem but nothing changed.
Some things I should mention; my entire library is ALAC (lossless), and I do not use the sync feature with music. I manually drag albums over that I want and use the "convert to AAC feature", and have always done so. The main reason I upgraded to iTunes 10.6 was to take advantage of converting to AAC 256kbps instead of the previously fixed bit rate of 128kbps. Anyway, I dragged over a lossless album without the option of converting to AAC, but it still didn't transfer the artwork.
In case anyone is wondering, the method I used to download my art was by finding the cover using Google Images, hilighting every track in the album, and pasting it in. Again, I never had this problem until upgrading iTunes to v10.6.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone else has experience this problem, and if there are any fixes yet.

  • Viewing album art in iTunes 11 - a few questions

I have just upgraded to iTunes 11, and I noticed there are a few features missing that used to be very valuable to me in ensuring that my library was correctly organized and tagged.
    1. There does not seem to be an option to display the album art of either the "Now Playing" track or the "Currently Selected" track(s) in the sidebar on the lefthand side of the iTunes window.
    2. There does not seem to be an option to view my library as a list grouped by albums, with the album art for each respective album to the left of the other columns.
If anyone knows of a way to enable these two features in the new iTunes 11, please tell me, as it is much more tedious to check and replace album art for new music I add to my library now based on the way I have my library set up.
Also, this is a bit off-topic, but I think that to enhance the new "upcoming tracks" menu, iTunes should recognize when people have their libraries set to shuffle by albums, and instead of asking a user to add a track to Up Next, it should ask to play the entire album next. That way, people trying to listen to entire albums at a time can easily choose what album will come on after the current.
One final thing - I think the artist grid view of the previous iTunes should still remain as an option. The new iTunes is bringing iTunes in a good direction, but I think that there are a good amount of features discarded that possibly shouldn't have been. I'm interested to see what future updates bring to the new iTunes.

If you mean cover flow, it's been removed. By selecting "Albums" across the top, this is the new look. The only time that you can change a look is if you have built a playlist, then click the "View" Icon in the top right corner of the playlist. It will give you three options. Cover flow is not one of them.

  • Cannot View Album Art.. please help!

Hi. I've been wondering how I can put album art onto my nano... I'm quite confused because I have one song that has the album art beside it when in "Now Playing" but for the rest of the songs... I don't see any album art. Please help me.. it has been bugging me for quite a while now =(
      Windows XP

What I mean is that you don't have to do the album art for each song, one by one, in an album.
In itunes, click on the first song in the album. Then hold down the shift key and click on the last song in the album. All the songs inbetween the two you clicked on will be selected.
Then, just drag or paste the artwork into the box on the left and all the selected songs will get the same artwork.

  • HT3798 On iPod 160gb - how can I view album art full screen like in the menu half screen or photo slideshows?

I remember responding to an apple customer satisfaction survey in 2009, when I purchased my iPod Classic. I suggested it should be possible to have album art viewed in full screen like in photo slideshows or how album art is presented on half the screen when the menu is navigated to the 'music' list. Does anyone know if apple has created an iPod Classic software update which includes this glaring omission?

The progress bar is not the iPod disconnecting from the PC but rather the iPod reading in the library database from it's hard drive. It's safe to disconnect when told to.

  • Won't display Album Art while playing music and the screen is Locked

  • How can i view album art above the songs in the new itunes format?

i liked how you could view the artwork for a song above the list and it seems like that option is unavailable in this new itunes version. Why??

Not a great solution, but you can completely remove the album art if you reduce the width of your itunes window.... as you reduce the window you get to a point where the artwork disappears.
