but not able to see when created manually ./etc/oratab will be updated by agent automatically,
So when you created database manually it is not going to edit oratab file.

  • View *all* databases in oracle 8i

    Hello all,
Is there a statement/command which i can type to view ALL the databases in the oracle8i database. I am having a certain problem with an application which is using the database, only i am not aware which database it is using!! I do have dba priviledges..
    Thanks in advance

You cannot do this from SQL*Plus. SQL*Plus connects to a single database. From there you can see any other database your database has a link to. You can see which databases those are by querying DBA_DB_LINKS. That is not necessarily the same thing as all "the databases in the system". If all your databases are linked to the database you're connecting to, then you can monitor them through SQL*Plus - you just have to suffix everything in the FROM clause with @db_name.db_link. Which is a lot of hard work: OEM does make this sort of thing very easy.

Title:      Java SE for Embedded Meets Oracle Berkeley DB at the Edge
Abstract:      This session covers a special case of edge-to-enterprise computing, where the edge consists of embedded devices running Java SE for Embedded in combination with Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition, a widely used embedded database. The approach fits a larger emerging trend in which edge embedded devices are "smart"--that is, they come equipped with an embedded (in-process) database for structured persistent storage of data as needed. In addition, these devices may optionally come with a thin middleware layer that can perform certain basic data processing operations locally. The session highlights the synergies between both technologies and how they can be utilized. Topics covered include implementation and performance optimization.

Title:      Developing Applications with Oracle Berkeley DB for Java and Java ME Smartphones
Abstract:      Oracle Berkeley DB is a high-performance, embeddable database engine for developers of mission-critical systems. It runs directly in the application that uses it, so no separate server is required and no human administration is needed, and it provides developers with fast, reliable, local persistence with zero administration. The Java ME platform provides a new, rich user experience for cell phones comparable to the graphical user interfaces found on the iPhone, Google Android, and other next-generation cell phones. This session demonstrates how to use Oracle Berkeley DB and the Java ME platform to deliver rich database applications for today's cell phones.

  • Too many time to open a session with oracle odbc

I have to migrate an internet site in Sql Server to Oracle.
When I connect Oracle Database with Oracle ODBC, it takes 2 or 3 seconds.
So if i have 8 or 10 recordset to open, it takes 20 s.
But when sessions are open, they live about 1 m and during this time i don't have problem to connect to the database. When i don't use the site during more than 1 m, all sessions are closed and so i have to wait.
How can i connect to the database quickly the first time?

Are you using connection pooling? Are you pre-allocating connections on startup?

    >
Karthick's script will 'kill' the sessions but before you use that script you may want to read the docs about the KILL and DISCONNECT clauses.
See the DISCONNECT SESSION and KILL SESSION clauses in the SQL Language doc
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_2013.htm#sthref4724
    >
    DISCONNECT SESSION Clause
Use the DISCONNECT SESSION clause to disconnect the current session by destroying the dedicated server process (or virtual circuit if the connection was made by way of a Shared Sever).
The IMMEDIATE setting disconnects the session and recovers the entire session state immediately, without waiting for ongoing transactions to complete.
    KILL SESSION Clause
The KILL SESSION clause lets you mark a session as terminated, roll back ongoing transactions, release all session locks, and partially recover session resources.
IMMEDIATE Specify IMMEDIATE to instruct Oracle Database to roll back ongoing transactions, release all session locks, recover the entire session state, and return control to you immediately.
    >
For DISCONNECT the IMMEDIATE clause will recover the session state 'immediately'.
Using KILL, even with the IMMEDIATE clause, you are telliing Oracle to roll back any ongoing transactions and that can take a lot of time.
Make sure you are really doing the operation you want to do. If you want to get the locks released immediately you need to use 'DISCONNECT IMMEDIATE'.

  • How to grant "view all" permissions?

I have an Oracle Portal 10.1.2.2 instance w/ several thousand pages and several hundred groups.
How may I grant a group permission to view all portal pages w/o explicitly assigning the group permissions to each page nor granting them DBA or other elevated rights?
My specific scenario is granting executive leadership "view all" permissions w/o editing several thousand pages.
    TIA

    Hi
You can define permissions on the pagegroup level so that the users you want will be able to view all the pages of that pagegroup.
You could also play with permissions inheritance but this would be done manually for each page levels if not done yet.

  • Defining and Viewing BLOB Data in Oracle Application Express 3.2

    Hello All,
There is a nice tutorial for working with images in Application Express 3.1 entitled "Defining and Viewing BLOB Data in Oracle Application Express 3.1". I have 3.2 and I am finding that I can't follow this tutorial... Is there any similar how to for 3.2?
    Thank you,
    Daniel

    Hi,
I have just gone through the first steps in my OTN workspace app, and I do get the Implementation option (showing Interactive or Classic). In fact, my page at this point matches exactly the image shown in the tutorial.
My OTN workspace app uses Apex version 3.2. The Interactive reports are relatively new, so older versions of Apex would not have this option. But you say that you are using version 3.2? If you just try to create a report page on, say, EMP, do you get the option to select Interactive or Classic?

  • Which are the required roles/privs for viewing all scheduler jobs in OEM?

Platform: Oracle 11.1.0.6 Enterprise Edition (64) Windows 2008 R2 Server
    - I've created a new Admin user in "OEM>Setup>Adminstrators>Create"
    - I checked the user in "OEM>Server>Users":
    CREATE USER "SA_ADMIN"
    PROFILE "DEFAULT"
    INDENTIFIED BY "saadminsa"
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE "SYSAUX"
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE "TEMP"
    ACCOUNT UNLOCK;
    GRANT SELECT ANY DICTIONARY TO "SA_ADMIN";
    GRANT "MGMT_USER" TO "SA_ADMIN"
    - "SA_ADMIN" was granted only the permissions above.
    - I can log in OEM as "SA_ADMIN"
    - I can see OEM backup jobs and the history
    - But I cannot see any "scheduler" jobs in "OEM>Server>Jobs"
    - I get a lists of the jobs in "OEM>Scheduler Central" but I cannot display any more information of "scheduler jobs"
    - I logged off from OEM
    - I granted SCHEDULER_ADMIN role to "SA_ADMIN"
    GRANT SCHEDULER_ADMIN TO "SA_ADMIN";
    - I logged back in OEM as "SA_ADMIN
    - I can now see some scheduler jobs, but not all of the jobs, I still cannot see any of the new jobs I created logged in OEM as SYS.
Which are the required roles/privs for viewing all scheduler jobs in OEM?

if you grant "SYSDBA" to the new Admin user then you can see the "scheduler" jobs.
    GRANT SYSDBA TO "SA_ADMIN";
I wanted to grant "read" access in OEM for the new user.
    This behaviour is strange.
Without the "SYSDBA" role the new user can see the OEM backup jobs that were create in as SYS, but it cannot see the "scheduler" jobs.

  • JSP session lost - Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.1

I have a JSP application running under Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.1 on a Windows 2000 server.
Upon successful login to the application, a new browser window is opened for the application and the parent browser is redirected to a benign static HTML page. The new browser window allows us to present the illusion of a captive application - the 'application' browser window is not resizable and does not have a tool bars.
The login jsp creates several session scope objects. These session scope objects are used by the core application jsps interfaced through the application browser.
In the test enviroment the application functions as expected.
In the production environment sessions appear to terminate immediately following login. All session scope objects are null in the jsp page - mainMenu.jsp - that serves as the application entry point in the new browser window. Application scope objects are not null in this initial jsp. Upon a subsequent access to login.jsp, the application_onStart event is triggered, followed by a session_onStart event and the failure of mainMenu.jsp due to null session scoped objects. My initial thought was that that this is a cookie problem...client browser not accepting cookies but was not the case.
Any ideas on how to diagnose this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I am having a similar problem. When I use a session-scoped bean to retain user info from page to page, the session bean appears to be re-instantiated at each page.
An earlier attempt used session.set/getAttribute to store the same info. This one worked in the development environment (Jdev), but not when deployed on the App Server.
Was your issue resolved? Is it related to different versions of the container being in place (as is hinted at in related posts)?
    thanks,
    Lyn

    Can any one help me??
    Regards,
    Kevin.

    Hi Kevin,
I want to view all notifications(Requisitions and PO's) from my USER. How can i view all the notifications without accessing the other user access. For this you need to login to the application with SYSADMIN user, as SYSADMIN can only access all the notifications even if he is not the owner of the same.
    You can follows these steps:
    1. Login as SYSADMIN
    2. Choose System Administrator responsibility.
    3. Workflow : Administrator Workflow
    4. Status Monitor
Here on this form you can search any notification of any user and any status you are looking for.
For the search details you can refer the following ML doc,
[Basic Setup To View Workflows and Notifications Owned by other Users: Workflow Adminstrator|https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=371792.1]
    Thanks,
    Anchorage :)
